Hi!
I installed original firmware downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375409&nocache=1 for my GT-I9192 but when i checked system directory with root explorer, my files were still there. please tell me how to format everything before flashing. (i am flashing with odin 3.07). I think Pit file is in tar.md5 file (which i downloaded from that link). Will Nand erase all fix my problem? (also, My phone is rooted)

Go to recovery ( vol up + home + power )
Make factory reset ( all ur data will be erased )
If this will not help u please give a sign.
Just delete the files in sdcard0. Its your phone's internal SD card that you're looking at which contains the files.

27.What is the .pit file? Why are there different versions?
The .pit file contains information regarding the partitioning of the internal ROM (note, that this is NOT the internal SD card! They are different memory chips!) and it is used during the flashing procedure. There are currently two version of the .pit file, respectively ending on 512.pit and 513.pit. They differ in that they have different partition sizes stored for each of the partitions that is created on the ROM. As of now, all ROMs seem to be functioning without any problems when the 512.pit file is used, whereas ROMs from version XWJG5 on do not work when the 513.pit file is used.
Not that these describe the partition of the ROM, however, they only actually change the sizes of the partitions if the 'repartition' option is checked in Odin3 during flash. You can flash providing the 513.pit file while your device is formatted according to the 512.pit file, however, this can cause unforeseen complications and it is advised to either use the .pit file according to which your phone is partitioned or alternatively select the 'repartition' option during flash.

From what I can tell you can't go wrong with 512.pit.
PIT and firmware upagrade by ODIN
I downloaded my original firmware from samsung-firmwares.com and decided to try and flash using odin. I thought I would try and flash without putting a PIT file in the allocated PIT file box and only putting the PDA in the PDA file box.
For some reason those files must have the PIT file built into the PDA. Am I correct in saying that? Because it worked for some reason. Am I going to have problems down the track because I never added a PIT file when flashing with ODIN.
Cheers

As I know pit is needed for all flash (well, at least the tutorial from samsung-firmwares told us so)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Flashing Kernel file alone doesnt need to use PIT file..

Just curious, what has you needing a pit file? When you use a pit file, you'll also need a package that writes data to all of the partitions that the pit file re-partitions. I haven't looked yet, but I'm pretty sure that the stock leaked firmwares don't have images for a few of the necessary partitions (like userdata, etc.).
i need also the pit file
mine was fixed by jtag with a 16 gb image file
and i have a 32 gb motherboard, so need pit file

Can someone kindly tell me what the file name is for the two files above and below the host file in /system/etc/, in my drunkin stupor I renamed the wrong file to host.txt and now it boot loops. I'd like to try to rename that file before flashing back to stock or restoring backups that never boot for me. Thank you.

Here you go
Thank you me too. My only fear is that the file I renamed got moved in abc order and I think it's the files above it below host. Thanks again

Just so you are aware, removing the -w flag from flash-all.bat in a stock ROM download preserves your data. Custom ROMs do not automatically wipe data in TWRP: you have to select it, and thus your data should be preserved there.
Where you cannot recall which file you edited, flashing a stock ROM with the -w flag removed is probably the best bet. I know it's not what you want to do, so let's hope you rename the right file.
