This stupid and useless function when the phone turns on to show you any notifications+info when you pass your hand over the sensor is pissing me off. First, it seems to work and NOT work whenever it feels like it. Secondly, whenever I pass my hand over it (intentionally or accidentally), once the screen turns off -that's if it turns on to begin with- the stupid blue light starts blinking and doesn't stop until I unlock the screen. WTF is this about? This stupid blue light is supposed to blink only when there's a message or some other notification (supposedly) but it keeps coming on for the reason I mentioned (not just when there's a message....). This is pissing me off so much that I just smacked the phone and cracked the back cover. Any way I can turn off this crap ?
Yes, unset motion settings turn off quick glance.
Then seek anger management ASAP

Ok. But why does the stupid blue light keep coming on and keeps blinking for no reason other than passing my hand over the sensors?

Black electrical tape will solve your problem. Apply a small rhombus of tape over and covering the light. No need to thank me, I do this s*** for free.

Ok so on my et4g, the proximity sensor is lit up. I've never seen or knew it could light up.. it's a dim orange. Yes I'm positive its the proximity sensor too. I've messed around with it and it is still working..
Attached is a pic of it... looks light purple but it's not..
Anyone know why this could be lit up and not go off?? I've never seen anything like it before

Maybe the red led is screwed and if by any chance it is purple its just red+blue at the same time
I say reboot and if this keeps happening logcat and try a new rom
Your last hope would be going to the sprint store

How about a picture in the dark without the flash?
Not calling bs or anything, just covering all variables here. The 'lighting up' could be light reflecting off of it. I've seen mine shine before in the right light. It's not an LED so if it's actually emitting any light, in case you didn't know - that's not good
Seriously though, no flash and a dark room or it didn't happen.
That was in a dark roon with no flash on the other camera. If flash was on the et4g screen would have a flare on it.
I figured out what caused it.
It was an app called -notification pro plus-
There is a setting under general settings to use the proximity sensor.
I guess it doesn't work well with out phones.

Red and blue LEDs are on the left side of the phone, not the right.

I was wondering if my sensor is malfunction or something, Last night the left sensor was red. It was litten up for a while and didnt turn off even when I put the phone to sleep. Is this something normal? Sorry new to note 2. As a bonus does the note 2 have emojis? Cant find those anywhere. P.s. sorry if I dont make sence im hung over.

It's called Led

No I know that.. its the third visible hole starting from right first. The sensor.. (right side of speaker) it was glowing red and my phone was disconected from the charger with LED light off. Closest thing I can relate the color too was like the red of a burning metal. For some reason I cabt upload pics.

If your in a bright area the led will be brighter and vice versa, I believe it uses 1 of the sensors to detect how bright it is.

I guess I thought it was a problem with my phone, but I shined a flash light on and off at the light sensor and the charge light changed with it. Thanks for the input.
Swipe your hand slowly over the sensor and the phone will show time, missed calls, messages, and battery percentage. I think it's a pretty tight feature. Was just wondering how many people actually knew about it and use it.

It's a nice feature but I wonder how much battery it will drain? If you think about it, in order for it to respond when you put your hand over the sensor, it means the sensor is always going to be on. That means something is running all the time.

I do use it. the first few days I had the Note II I kept wondering why is it turning on by itself. there was no ad about it like the other touchwiz features of the S III on youtube. then I found lots of touchwiz features on settings. LOTS.

Good point about battery life, but battery life on this device is so good at least for me. I'm willing to to sacrifice what ever drain it does use tho. I love this freakin phone.

Just checked, this feature keeps the proximity sensor always on when the screen is off. To test, turn the phone of in a dark room, you should see a red glow in the sensor.

I also experienced a noticable battery drain after enabling the feature. Then when I turned my screen on it would not sleep. Rebooted and it works fine.

Its a really nice feature for when ur walkimg around ur office or house and just wanna see if u have any missed txt, but i did read something online where it drained the battery super fast. So i shut the feature off and i literally got 5hrs more out of the battery, wasn't worrying through out the work day if it was gonna die.

used it for about an hour, was pretty meh. Good concept, but bad implementation. I have my phone on my desk and it was always turning on and off. But when I needed it to to show me quick glance data, it worked about 50% of the time.
The only thing from that menu I love is the Palm Swype to screen capture.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
I have been testing the quick glance feature and noticed that it works best in low light conditions, especially in darkness..
I sleep with my phone on my bed (I use it as my alarm clock) and with the lights out quick glance works for me every time. I have gotten to like it because the screen is much easier on the eyes, at night (dimmer), than hitting the power button to check the time/notifications. I disable it during the day though.
The Palm swipe for a screen shot is awesome. It is a much faster way to take a screen shot than having to take out and use the S-Pen.. I wish the screen didn't turn white while swiping though. Not a big deal I just think the loud click upon taking the shot is enough to let the user know the shot had been taken.
I used it when I got my Note in November but as mentioned, it does cause a very noticeable battery drain.

my favorite on there too. I used the quick glance the first few days then just got tired of it. I prefer the smart alert, it vibrates when I go pick it up if I have a missed call or message.

Why when I press dial the screen turns off right away? The screen should only turn off when I put it next to my ear. It's very annoying when I'm dialing automated systems and need to use the keypad because if I manually turn the screen back on and then put it next to my ear to talk the screen doesn't turn off and I end up accidentally pushing buttons.
On an iphone the screen remains on and only turns of when put next to my ear, and turns right back on when pulled away from an ear. Is there a way to duplicate this behavior on GS4?
Go to settings/My device/call settings and select turn off screen during calls. That should do it.

Thanks, the screen doesn't turn off anymore but it also stays on when I put it next to my ear... I don't get why Samsung can't get a basic function like that right.

In your original post you forgot to let us know what exact rom you are using.
It would be very helpful to know that and other specifics before offering any suggestions.
Good luck!
Well, I tried this on a stock rom with the same result. Are you saying it works for you?

Download an app from the android market (its free) called AndroSensor and see if that app is saying the proximity sensor is blocked. You might have a spec of dirt causing it to always return that its blocked. Read other threads with same issue, and in the one thread, the guy at T-Mobile took a can of compressed air and blasted out the earpiece and it fixed it.
I downloaded the app and proximity sensor does not show any reading all the other functions have a graph next to them but not the sensor. Does this mean it's broken? And if it is broken does tmobile exchange the phone or do I have to send it back to Samsung?

Agreed. Definitely hardware. Your sensor is reporting that the sensor is never covered and always open. Use that app and a test call to show the Rep at T-Mobile.
