I highly recommend you all read this thread & pass it on to other users! Maybe someone will post it in the Tmo development section also, but I wasn't sure if it was the proper place? This is a huge risk, and I don't want to see anyone else lose their phone, especially those without insurance!

what is the effect of not having the imei on the phone? why is it a big deal?
Is this IMEI disappearance a first for android phones?

Your IMEI is your phone's ID number to the network. No IMEI = goodbye connectivity to ATT/Tmobile/etc. Your phone just lost it's 2g/3g/4g capabilities. In the world of Apple, it's like your iphone turning into an ipod touch.

more bluntly, a phone without an IMEI won't get served a signal by AT&T, as posted earlier by someone else if you had read the topic. And what's a phone without a data OR voice connection.

No, Samsung phones from way back have had a history of corruption of the EFS partition/file/whatever.
This happened to me with my captivate a few years ago the only way to fix it was to send it to Samsung for a factory firmware reflash.

NO a nandroid restore has been proven unsuccessful, and I don't want to scare anyone, I want ppl to be informed! I myself have chosen not to flash anything else until more is discovered, but that's just my choice & I'm not as advanced as many users here on XDA.

I've been to at least a half dozen hacker sites trying to locate ppl with the issue, and I've not yet discovered a sprint, or Verizon phone suffering from this issue, only gsm models . But, I can't promise it won't happen, but I would assume it doesn't affect you.

I was so excited to root the phone and didn't even spend time to read. I went to find your device and typed in samsung galaxy sIII, then it pointed me to the i9300 section.
I found the rom there, then flashed it. After that it's too late.
About the tmo exchange, should i bring it in the store or call them?
I bought this from the local CL seller, What kind of info do i need to prove it's my phone?
I have never done this before. I just need to get prepare see if I can get it thru, thank you

Wait... what did T-Mobile say? What did you tell them? Never tell them the truth. I know this is frowned upon, but whatever.
Never say you got the phone off craigslist. Be firm that it's your phone. Most likely warranty isn't verified on your account because you didn't activate the phone with your SIM initially... since it is off CL..
Most importantly, be nice to the reps, if you put them in a good mood they will try to help you. They pushed through an exchange for me before.

There's 2 programs you can run, one generates a backup file from your phone. The other you input your imei and it generate a string of numbers in a box and your imei " should be in there. I say should because...... HELL NO.. I'm not going to try to put it back on my 6 hundred something dollar phone ( if I didn't lose my imei..
