Hey guys I am so torn right now with choosing this device. I currently have sprint with a gnex, and am looking at the optimus g or the note 2. The only thing I'm torn about is developer support. I would like to know how things are on your phones as far as custom stuff. I know you can unlock the bootloader now which is huge but how is the jelly bean support for the sprint version so far?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda app-developers app
Custom rom are slowly coming, currently there's support for CM10, AOKP and AOSP.
LG is also providing source code, so there's way for more in the future.
as for the JB support for the sprint, you can look in the LGOG Sprint section, people there will be more aware of this!
Don't try it. I did it for my OGEvo and things got ugly quickly!

I flashed onto AOSP, so far so good. Excellent battery life on my E971. Getting 1 hr more screen time and not as much Android OS usage compared to stock. So far im at 12 hours on battery with 1 hr 35min of screen time and only at 51%. Only problem is that I miss the notification light, but thats a small price to pay for the newest OS and excellent battery life
WOW!!! I finally decided to keep the phone and now this... not good for LG Do you think they will correct this via warranty?
Correct what?
Gotta be honest with you....I absolutely LOVE this phone and dont think I'm ever going to root it. No need...its fast as all ****ing hell and the software works great. I've been rooting flashing ROM's on my past 2 phones for years and I'm kind of over it....at least for now Yeah the advantages are great but the cons are also a pain in the ass. Camera's that only half work, almost endless amounts of bugs, etc. Not to mention LG is rolling out JB as we speak.
As for how the phone is....its FASTTTTTT. I destroyed my girlfriends S3 in Quadrant and its eaten up everything I've put thrown at it (games, multitasking with apps, etc) with ease.
/\ thats great that you find it fast, I did too when I was using stock ics.. then I flased the JB rom and its no doubt faster over stock.. way more snappy.. like noticibly more as well as better battery life to boot..
Glad that I went to the trouble tbh, this rom beats stock ics by a loooong shot
Considering that everything works (at least for me it does) it was well worth the effort to install it..
Stock JB or some CM/AOKP/AOSP flavored one?
I have no doubt that JB is faster on this than ICS but I'm just gonna hold out for the official, stock JB update. It'll be here in the states in a month or so.
I loved my og... key word, loved..
Dropped it in water. :crying: gotta pay 150 to get a new one with telus..
Just got my LS970 from Sprint. I have LTE in my area so that's awesome. ICS on this phone is a little laggy. It's not as smooth as one would expect, especially scrolling through web pages with a lot of pictures. Even the FB, Twitter, and G+ plus apps tend to lag as you scroll through pics. Other than that this thing is solid. I'm liking it so far but i can't wait for the Jelly Bean update.

Must be a Sprint firmware issue. No such ICS issues on GSM versions.
LG Optimus G E971
Greetings everyone,
I would like to start off by apologizing for bothering you folks with yet another "what's the best ROM for having X and doing Y" thread, although I felt that after searching I had a rather specific criteria, which I'm hoping someone may be able to address.
I have been using Virtuous Affinity for awhile now, and frankly I'm starting to feel old It seems like ICS has been out forever while I'm still on gingerbread. I am a little unclear on what the official status is of ICS support though; I thought I remembered hearing some talk about HTC potentially having an ICS based update in the works, although past that I know nothing. Browsing around, I'm a little discouraged by some of the known issues ICS roms may have; no camera support, broken audio/bluetooth, things like that.
What I would optimally like to have is a fully functioning ICS ROM. Stable, good performance, nice on the battery, etc. etc. UI wise, I have become accustomed to HTC's Sense UI, but even then I'm very foggy on what the differences are between their major versions (I've been hearing of 2.0 and 3.0). To be honest though, I wouldn't mind trying a new UI. I've liked the one Samsung puts on their Galaxy SIII.
Above all, stability is my goal. I'm not too comfortable with the trailblazing "nightly" builds and testing ROMs; having a working phone is pretty important to me. Now you might say, "Well, why even root to begin with?" Okay, I like to experiment a little bit
But I digress. What is there in the wonderful and magical world of ROMs?
P.S. I think it would be really useful if there was a sticky going something like "State of the ROM", which pulls together a list of ROMs and highlights their features and issues in an easy to compare manner (so a step up from the currently stickied ROM compilation thread)
Right now chillybean's paranoidPAC
And preludedrew's Evervolv I can recommend
Viper and MIUI are both ICS and have everything working so far

Another vote for Evervolv it is 4.2.2 JB and everything works great except video camera. PAC is also good but it is only 4.1.2 afaik

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I suppose I might want to give Evervolv a shot (Wifi is fixed I hope?) although I'm a little unclear about installing it. Most OPs post a tutorial for flashing ROMs, and while I would feel a little more comfortable flashing Evervolv on my own, it seems like there a new hoops you have to jump through for flashing ICS/JB roms. Could anyone guide me through the steps?
If you are rooted and have installed a custom recovery, go ahead and download the ROM of your choice, then install it from the recovery using install zip from SD card, then install the correct Google apps whether 4.2 gapps or 4.1 gapps
After that you restart and wait for the room to boot.
I highly recommend installing crossbreeder after the first boot, and then you are done!!!
If you want concider v6 supercharging your phone or what i used NOS

Why would you start by apologizing. You are acknowledging that this is redundant. Read the threads that are already there. You aren't asking anything new. And even if you were, you could ask in an existing thread. And if the rom doesn't give specific instructions it means you flash it the same way as any other. Read the op in the thread for each rom and try usually state what works and doesn't.

I'm not trying to be a butt head. I'm still learning too. But if you already know the question has been asked (and answered) multiple times... Read the answers that are there.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I think you might be misunderstanding my OP... Yes, I am aware that the general form of the question has been asked, although I wanted to see how the community felt about the priorities I put forth in looking for a ROM (hence why I later suggested that a sticky stacking the ROMs against each other with their features and flops would be useful). I realize now that a lot of the ICS roms don't exactly meet what I was looking for anyways, and that I would have to take some relatively larger risks. Alas, I am going forth with trying one of the suggested ones.
And I believe asking in another thread would be considered hijacking by most forums? I see it's not explicitly mentioned in the rules, although I would expect people to keep questions to their own threads as a matter of courtesy.
I sometimes forget people can't hear the tone my tone of voice when I type. I meant laying down the law in a good way.
To the OP. Perhaps you would like to work on your suggested project of comparing the roms and once then we can all add our input to your list?

I didn't take it negatively. And your suggestion is spot on with what I was about to reply. Something my pastor says when people come to him with new ministry ideas, "that sounds great, I'm putting you in charge of that committee." Usually people want stuff done but want someone else to do it.
People don't generally make those threads because like this one they get redundant. The features are listed in the rom thread. Questions pertaining to the rom are asked in that thread. If someone wants to make a thread like you suggest that's fine, but what happens is someone comes in and instead of reading the rom thread they start asking questions in the new thread that have been answered already and the op constantly has to refer people to go read that thread.

Is this phone losing support? It doesn't seem a whole lot of breakthroughs are surfacing anymore. Coming from Evo 4g where stuff was constantly popping up despite HTC dropping support, I would think this phone would have many more options it being way more current. Is it because of tmobile, the phone itself, etc? I'm considering swapping out this for the s3 as I just recently got this phone because it was cheap but I have one more week to decide...

That's the nature of the beast though. Sure, all the tw roms share similarity, but so do the other forks of android...aokp and cm. The differences are under the hood and not visual.

Actually I think the difference between aokp and cm are visuals. Ie customizations..
We have many choices, but as far as originality it seems most, not ALL, share more or less the same features. Today I just found out the evo 4g just had digital karma Rom updated within the last few months and that phone is ancient. As far as that phone went, sense roms differed GREATLY from one another. Aosp was about the same build no matter who baked it.
I'm not saying there aren't choices, but compared to an almost 5 year old device, this receives less love. But again, the base for jellybean was just recently released so I'll be checking, but it just seems every Rom I've been flashing is about the same.
Unfortunately for me, I'm limited to twiz roms because I need Wi-Fi calling due to poor reception at my house. I understand this is a framework feature, but compared to free alternatives, the tmobile version is hands down best voip option there is it seems.
I didn't rush out to grab this phone, but money at the time was tight and this was all I could afford, I had already gone 3+ months without a phone on Sprint due to the plan being rather pricy age their customer support blows. But in all honesty, this phone isn't too different from its older brother. The pros are so very minimal its really not that big of a difference speed wise. Perhaps more stable, but hardware wise its practically the same

We dont really need 20 different roms that are the same thing with different theming

With this phone it's really simple. Need wifi calling? If no, then go for 4.2.2 any of the popular ones (and we have virtually all of them!!!) are getting into milestones and are imo very stable DD material. Plus lately we've seen some awesome kernels pop up for them.
If you do need wifi calling, then stick with any TW 4.1.2 rom. Now they won't have a whole lot of improvements over stock, because we just got JB and source so give it some time. But soon you will see constant improvements for at least a few months until devs reach the point where there isn't really much to add to the rom...and probably waiting begins for TW 4.2
If you're looking for visual variety then I would suggest alternative launchers, LMT, launcher themes, rom themes, etc. Whether TW, Sense, AOSP, etc there really isn't a limit to how you make your phone feel and look.
Hey guys thinking of upgrading to this phone and I love the look, feel, and features of this phone, but it doesn't look like you guys have much going on in the way of development? I'd be coming from the Samsung Infuse, so I'm a bit spoiled, when the phone was newer lots of developers were building and porting custom roms, and currently there are about 4 variations of updated (Android 4.1+) roms in development. Currently I'm on Beanstalk for the Infuse (android 4.3) which is a great rom with tons of customization.
I wouldn't mind learning and developing myself but with the apparent shortness of developers this could be slow going. Am I missing something here, is there just not a lot of development because this is a relatively new device, or is it a hard or impossible device to hack?

I agree .. it's a good stock rom. I would have to say most people install roms to improve performance but even on the Note2 I had I wasn't installing roms like I did in the past on every device prior.. and in fact this G pro benchmarks about 60 to 100 percent faster than the Note2 in most ... and so far it's been the fastest, slickest device I've used by far. I'm using Apex Launcher for customizing .. and at this point my phone looks like stock Android 4.3 and runs lightning quick.. and battery life has been stellar. And I'm liking and using the quicknote dedicated button! Only thing I miss about my note2 is kinda the S-pen and the inky blacks(contrast)
I have own a lot of Samsung devices...starting from s2 to s4 and I change my s4 for this device because I didn't feel I big upgrade from s3...of course I miss switching rooms but I can tell you that this phone is a lot quicker than many phone out there...the G pro is a lot more responsive than my wife note 2 and what I love about this phone is BATTERY this monster last the whole day

Stock is good, but modded roms are better. that's my option. Because the stock rom is so perfect, we're hailing the rom, but we better make sure that doesn't offend the developers. Even it is perfect, it is still 4.1, we will need 4.2/4.3 roms very soon, and LG won't catch up with our interest. So, we better appreciate what developers are trying now. Pls don't say we don't want mod roms.
For me, I just have one request to the devs, whatever you do, pls make sure the Quick Remote is in your rom, coz I'm already obsessed with it so much. now I can control everything around me with my phone.
Hello everyone! I am really new to flashing roms and as such know very little about them. I hope everyone here can give some advice on which to use.
I got away from the stock rom because it was ugly as sin, seemed to be battery hungry, and so restricted.
What I'm looking for in a rom is improved battery life over stock, improved speed, useful features baked right in like halo, and the ability to make it look exactly the way I want without having to install a 3rd party launcher, and last but not least working 3g/4g would be nice.
Currently I'm useing cm 10.2 nightly. I like the power savings, the speed, and my data works. But I would like a halo like feature and a bit more room for customization.
Thank you in advance for any tips you can give!

Welcome to the forums and the Optimus G! You've made yourself a great choice getting this phone
Glad to see you are already rooted and ROM'd as well. A good ROM for customization would be either Beanstalk, Carbon ROM, Dirty Unicorns, AOKP, etc. Pretty much every ROM that isn't CM will give you good customization options. And I know that Carbon has working Halo too.
I've been saying this everywhere on the forums, and I'm gonna say it here; if you can find some of the old 4.2.2 ROMs, I suggest you give those a whirl. The only real bug with 4.2.2 ROMs is camera autofocus. It requires a workaround with a script. But those ROMs are solid as ever and have really good battery life, way better than 4.3 in my honest opinion. And the newer stock based LG ROMs are better than ever as well. Amazing battery life and super smooth performance with those.
So, to be honest, you really can't go wrong with any of the ROMs floating around here. Get to downloading and figure out what you like Just remember to frequently make backups of your ROMs in TWRP (ESPECIALLY a stock ROM for prl/profile purposes) before going on flashing sprees, just in case something goes wrong. This is also one of the nicest Android communities I've ever been a part of, so please don't be afraid to ask in the threads for help with whatever you need. We're all like one big family here.
Cheers!
I personally am stuck on AOKP 4.3 (Build 9/11)
Haven't flashed a ROM in almost a month, Im pretty content
Awesome! Thanks guys for the info. A lot of good info to consider. Any idea where I might find the 4.2 roms? I just was looking around the Internet and could only find links to 4.3 based roms.
As far as a back up of my original stock rom I was foolish and didn't back it up. I have been reading a bit about updating my prl and such, to be honest it seems a bit daunting.
My question is, why can't there just be a button to it like in Stock roms, but on every rom. Seems like it should be easy for the devs to put one in considering how smart they are.

Oh, I have been reading up on pac rom and carbon rom. Maybe I'm missing something but on the surface they seems the same but with different names. What's the difference between the two?

Check out spleef's goo.im account. He has all of the 4.2 ROMs there, and there's a CM10.1 (4.2.2) thread as well with CM10.1 nightlies still being pushed. And to update the profile/prl is actually quite easy. When in stock ROM, simply go to system settings > system updates, and all the options are right there. Connect to your wifi, and update your stuff. Really simple. It IS possible to update profile/prl from AOSP, but to be honest, I've only ever seen that feature on one ROM only, and that was the Helly Bean ROM back on my old Samsung Epic 4G. Like I said, I've only ever seen that feature on just that ROM, so maybe it was either broken, or worthless lol.
As far as the differences go between Carbon and PAC, it is true that those ROMs have a lot of the same customization options, but I'm guessing the real differences are made under the hood. To be quite honest, I don't know why, but I actually haven't even ran a PAC ROM on this phone yet. I really don't know why, lol. Maybe all the options are just too overwhelming for me. I like for my AOSP ROMs to be simple, but with some options.

Ok cool, thanks for the reply! Looks like I'm going to have to temp flash a stock based rom to update prl/profile. I'm using Cm touch recovery. How good is its back up feature? If it even has one.

Do you mean ClockWorkMod touch recovery? I never used that on this phone. TWRP recovery is much more superior for this device.
Yeah ClockworkMod touch recovery. Lol I wish I would of known that before I paid for the touch recovery. Oh well, at least the money help support some talented devs.
Parden all the noob questions but what is the difference between the two recoveries?

Wait wait, you PAID for the recovery?? Errrrmmm... Sorry to say, but you kinda wasted your money, lol. I mean, its good that you supported the developer, but.... Yeah, you totally didn't have to pay for it, lol.
The difference between the two is, I think, that our devices just "prefers" TWRP. I mean, if CWM is working for you flawlessly, then great. No need to switch. But there's been cases were flashing ROMs and kernels with CWM just doesn't work properly. Why, I don't know. Maybe its something within the coding, or the device itself conflicts with the recovery, but TWRP is the way to go, and has now, at least I think, universally replaced CWM as the standard recovery for most Android devices across the board recently.
But like I said, if CWM is working for you with no issues, then stick with that!
I am somewhat new to them also but I will chime in. anything I have used I got from the site so you can find it or more current there.
Beanstalk - this has TONS of customization you can change just about everything. battery life is much better than stock. built on 4.3 - the keyboard is miles better than stock! has HALO built in <- I did not use it
Carbon - good ROM about the same as above, but not quite the adjust ability. battery life was good.
Optimized - built on the stock 4.1.2 battery life was amazing. with it sitting there just doing status checks no browsing it lost 2% in 6 hours!! my cell data dropped out and I could not get it back so I had to reflash (went back to beanstalk)
I am digging beanstalk. I have flashed most of the ROMs and it hits a nice middle ground between cm and pacman.

Wow still getting replies! This truly is an awesome community. Ty everyone. I have tried pac man but had a big problem, all icons and widget kept vanishing behind the wallpaper. Currently using carbon, I like it except I'm getting battery life on par with the stock rom and my screen flickers often. Next I will be trying Beanstalk rom.

Something to keep in mind... I recently discovered through attempting to force my way into using 4.3 that you WILL NOT be able to use the dialer codes when you get away from 4.1... Ex: ##72786#, ##MRL#, etc.

What ROMs have you tried out so far?

Slimbean pimpin. So far so good.
Just gonna ask here (so I don't have to make a new thread too) if I root the G, will I lose all data on internal storage?
thanks in advance. I am new here.
