Waiting on new device, question about updating - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is the general consensus that you should not get the latest OTA update for the Nexus 7? I bought one from the play store now that we can in canada, just waiting on it to arrive (maybe Monday-Wed next week). Either way, what are the problems that seem to be coming up after the OTA? Is it the touchscreen/multi touch issue? Something else? It's not for me, it's for the wife for her bday but I can at least tell her not to update it

I installed all the available updates, no issues at all, plus Google is aware of the current issues and will pop an update sometime soon to fix it

I have the multitouch issue with JWR66N and JSS15J.

[Q] Update for "unlocked" Samsung Focus WP7?

Hey guys - I have a question! I officially have an iPhone 4 with AT&T (that's what they have me listed as having). But I bought a Samsung Focus, and with the help of an adapter, have been swapping out my iPhone SIM card to use in my WP7 phone (I need to switch back and forth for work, occasionally).
The problem is, although I keep checking, my WP7 phone keeps showing that there is no update available for it... and I'm assuming its because AT&T has me listed as owning an iPhone 4 and not a Focus, and therefor they're not telling the phone that an update is available.
Am I correct? If so, is there another way I can get the update(s) for my WP7 phone?
Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated...!
Not it. As for as anyone can tell, no US phone has recieved the update.
Aaah, ok! That's a great help to know! Thanks!

Just following up here; has the "Update The Updater" update come through for US users yet? To date, I've received NO updates for my phone whatsoever (I have an "unlocked" Samsung Focus that's using my iPhone 4 SIM).
With all this discussion about the NoDo update with Cut and Paste, I haven't even gotten the first update yet. Just thinking that's a little weird...
If you haven't already gotten the pre-update then you probably won't get it separately. It will be bundled with the NoDo update and once the NoDo update starts getting pushed out trust me you will know. Twitter, this board, other boards and tech blogs will be filled with "OMFG NODO!" posts.

[Q] Yakjuux - Have you received 4.0.2 yet?

Have you received 4.0.2 on a yakjuux (or non-yakju, non-Verizon) Galaxy Nexus?
Nope, I just manually flashed it to yakju to now I should get all OTA updates..
I'm on yakjuux
Still on 4.0.1

Probably not what you want to hear, but it only takes about 5 minutes to flash to yakju.
Or... sell the phone. Because the S2 will get updates sooooo much faster.
Your choice I guess

Calm down, kid. Seriously. I'm on 4.0.1 as well and don't even care, I'm quite happy with my phone as it is, it's been incredibly reliable for me so far.
Also LOL at selling it for a Galaxy S2, as if that'll see updates any faster.
Still waiting
I don't know why anyone would expect the S2 to get updates faster (particularly because there are so many S2 variants and the S3 is rumored to be released soon).
Yesterday when I woke up I was on yakjuux 4.0.1. Today I am on yakju and a custom rom with 4.0.4
dooo it
Yakjuxw and got it right out of the box (bought it a couple of weeks ago from new egg) and I haven't bothered flashing to the Google fw yet.

Obviously some folks HAVE received it, as that is where the link to the yakjuux 4.0.2 OTA update (found here) came from.
I'm guessing I have the yakjuux version... I opened my nexus on Thursday and I updated via OTA that same day... 4.0.2
AT&T

Still waiting, has anyone received it on yakjuux recently?
Also waiting for an update...
I got my galaxy nexus when it was released in Canada and since then have been waiting for the updates. This will not happen with this variant of the OS. I called Bell who told me to call Samsung who told me that I just needed to be patient and wait for Google to update my OS. I then did more research online and discovered that this yakjuux version is not updated by Google at all. Never will be.
My question is, who does that yakjuux version come from? Is there any accountability for them to update it? My phone is not currently rooted, or flashed in anyway, although I am considering it even more after reading the forms here.
Thanks

It is not clear who updates the non-yakju builds. All the updates are pushed from Google's servers though. What I'm guessing likely happens is that Google updates the yakju builds, then Samsung makes some localization changes (for specific regions) to the yakju build, gives the modified builds back to Google, who pushes them out.

I sense your frustration, but if you're implying that yakjuux won't ever get an update I think there is an extremely low risk of that happening. The yakjuux update went a big wonky last month Google/Samsung stopped pushing it out. It was probably so close to the completion point of 4.0.4 that they just figured on skipping it. Yakju is the template used to make the customized builds, so it stands to reason that that build would have to be finished for 4.0.4 yakjuux could be released.
That's probably not helpful if you've been eagerly awaiting 4.0.2 and now have to watch people that had it months ago get bumped up even further, but that in no way signals that Canadian users have been abandoned on 4.0.1. If you really can't wait there's lots of detailed guides here that will get you up to date in no time.
Just a quick question for those of you that are still on yakjuux: what is keeping you there?
There is no difference whatsoever from a user experience perspective. I'm speaking from personal experience, as I bought my device from Virgin Mobile, and left it on yakjuux for quite some time. Then I decided to flash yakju. Lo and behold, there was absolutely no difference. No difference in performance, no difference in features, no difference in reception, no difference whatsoever.
So, I'm just curious as to why those of you still there have not switched, given that the only difference that I have seen so far in the almost 5 months I've owned this device, is that yakju gets updates much sooner than the non-yakju builds. It's not like it's a complicated process. In fact it's extremely easy.
Sorry deleted.

1. 4.0.1 works great. Best phone I ever had.
2. Most importantly, time. I'm working 10 hours a day, 7 days a week right now. If this isn't sorted out by the time tax season is over then I'm headed straight over to one of those great guides you've contributed to.
3. My own stubbornness. The Nexus is the one Android phone you should never need to root or unlock the bootloader of to stay up to date. I honestly had faith Google/Samsung wouldn't take so long to change a radio. Such is the fate of yakju's forgotten siblings.

Sure, yakjuux 4.0.1 works great. You are missing USB host support and the ability to use Google Wallet, but if you don't need those, then there is really no point in upgrading anyway, as I doubt you will notice a difference. Let's not forget that we are talking about a 0.03 incremental upgrade.

On the contrary, the advantage (and a main selling point for me) of a Nexus device is its unlockable bootloader. Which devices, other than the Android showcase devices (i.e., Nexus One, Nexus S, Motorola Xoom, Galaxy Nexus) do you see that come with unlockable bootloaders out of the box? None (although Sony-Ericsson and HTC are providing on-line unlocking for some of their devices now). The beauty of a Nexus device is that it is almost un-brickable, factory images and source are readily available -- all of this allows you to try whatever you want, and always be able to return back to the way it was when you bought it without issue.
Not to mention that Nexus devices are guaranteed to receive at least one major upgrade to the next version of Android (from when it was release), e.g., N1 launched on eclair got upgraded to froyo and then GB, NS launched on GB and got upgraded to ICS, Xoom launched on HC and got upgraded to ICS, and finally the GN launched on ICS, and will get updated to JB.

Does the timing of OTA updates depend on region?

Since Google is rumored to release the next version of Android soon,I was thinking of converting to yakju. My question is,are the OTA updates rolled out at the same time worldwide ,or is it pushed according to my region?

It is random i believe. Havent seen any pattern of regions when the updates have been rolled out.

I don't think anyone but Google really knows the timing of these things. From what I've read, it's totally random.

The advantage of converting to yakju is that you will get the update first, and as soon as the first person posts it on XDA you can easily install it. No need to wait for any roll-out.

If you have yakju and intend to wait for the OTA rather than manually install it, it rolls out seemingly randomly, not at all based on region.

Nexus 5X OTA Update Delay?

Since the phone was released, there has been three updates to the OS. I got the first one out of the box like most, but the following two have not graced my device.
Has anyone else gotten the OTA's for these builds?
I find it interesting on which devices get certain waves of the rollout of these OTA's.
Thanks!

Those are not regional updates.
The original, the first post-release, and then the November security update. Not sure where to account for the fourth.
I'm surprised they didn't pull the first one since flashing its radio enables Band 12.

Do you or anyone know where a changelog would maybe be?

The first one disables Band 12, along with whatever else Google wanted to change. The most recent one just released today so you'll likely be prompted for an OTA shortly, and it's a security release.
There might be a changelog somewhere but I don't have a link to it on hand,

MDA89E was ship OS
MDB08I Disabled Band 12 and whatnot when it was delivered.
MDB08L is the one in question, what was this one?
MDB08M is the newest one that is a security release, that one is the one we are waiting on right now.
So what was the MDB09L release? Is it a real thing that people got? This is not complexly aimed at you, but to ask the questions to XDA as well. x3
Probably be better to ask Google.

Yes i know malayasia already got the Android 10. But Singapore still not. Also S10 series users not get the update 3 weeks now ?
There are many, many countries not receiving the update untill now, I dont see why singapore should be among the first receiving it, or whatever

It takes as long as it takes... If you don't have the unlocked (the model that pulls it's updates straight from Samsung) variant for your region/country then your carrier has to approve the update before you get it.
Just be patient, lol.. I know it can be hard to do, but your not the only person who hasn't gotten the update. Spectrum Mobile hasn't given it's approval yet, so we still haven't gotten it. In fact we are still on the November security patch.
Honestly, after getting Android 10, there is not much excitements. I don't like the new gesture and I prefer to use One Hand Operation +. And I can't use with Nova launcher.
Force dark mode makes Facebook really weird and doesn't work on WhatsApp.
Other updates are just minor updates.
The only good thing for me is it fixes google messages rcs function

Unbelievable indeed. Most all other countries have it. I'm tempted to install 1 of the Android 10 ROM's that are already out "if" I can do so without having the base firmware installed 1st.
Well, dont be so anxious... Android 10 has some really annoying unresolved issues, it is already available in my country, but I blocked the updates, I am waiting for when all issues reported by many users are ironed out, so, in the end maybe it is a blessing for you that in your country is not available yet...
