CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO, do I still have my warranty? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short my phone is hard bricked (I think that is what its called). I can go into recovery mode (Home+Down+Power) and then when I press up it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Pretty must im wondering since it says NO do I still have my warranty with Sprint (US)?

A hard brick implies your device doesn't even power on. Seeing as it does, I'd wager dollars to doughnuts that it is a soft-brick and recoverable by you. What symptoms make you think you have a brick?

I'm trying to put a stock recovery on the phone and when I use Odin it keeps saying it needs a pit. When I tried three different pits that I found none of them worked.

It's SDS, don't do anything and send to service station. Yes your score is fine to claim warranty. Just ask them, it was very fine till end of day, when you see after woke up, device never turned on. You don't know anything about flashing.

so you are saying even if download mode is accessible...with SDS we cannot repair the phone ourselves by flashing a stock ROM using Odin???

No
SDS is hard brick. It needs motherboard replacement.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Ok, I was under the impression that SDS caused the phone to never turn on again, thus the name: Sudden Death Syndrome... not ever being affected by it, I had no idea that wasn't the case.
For future reference, what information in this thread tells you this is SDS?

what about yellow triangle

Just in case anyone was wondering I took my phone to sprint and they were like "omg the motherboard just fried" and then they gave me a new one immediately and I did not have to pay anything.

I had a similar report when my N2 died of SDS. I received a message back from the Samsung service point here that my warranty was void because of the fact that the last line indicated a modified phone.
They agreed that SDS was acknowledged by Samsung on the S3 but not on the N2. I have filed a complaint against the decision and had to go to Samsung directly myself to have the warranty void decision overruled. Eventually Samsung agreed on a warranty repair though they made it sound as it was just because they did me a big favour, and not as it was a company all-customer-wide decision. This process took me nearly 2 months!
After I received my phone back, it was working again, though it did not register on the network. Somehow it lost its IMEI. I could have sent it back to the service point but as I didn't want to lose my phone again for a long time, I restored an EFS backup I still had. That fixed my problem!
A few days after getting my phone back, I read on a local tech site that Samsung has loosened they strictness on similar repairs so hopefully others suffering from sds benefit!
I checked my chip before and after the repair. Before I had a bad chip. After the fix the tool reported that the new chip was sane, thank god...
Now my next dilemma..... Get the Note3? ..

That is an international 19300 s3 rom. Only flash roms made for the t mobile sgh-t999. There are many methods for download mode. Try pulling the battery and then hold volume down and home and power while putting battery back into phone. Then put back cover on and then plug into computer and see if Odin recognizes it even if it does not show the download mode screen. If that does not work you could buy a download mode jig. But, unfortunately, it is known that flashing international s3 roms on a US variant results in an unrecoverable brick due to the rom flashing in the wrong mount points. So consider doing a replacement.
I know the feeling, I hard bricked my last phone and had to get it replaced.

Is it possible for me to take it back to tmoile to fix it? =[
Is there a way that use the window cmd.exe to rewrite the android system to the phone?
I tired it before for my phone before, but i forgot the way that I'd done last time.
Yes. I just bricked mine 3 days ago. Took it to t mobile and told them that it would not turn on. If it is not in your 14 day grace period they will have one shipped to your house. Free. And even next day air.

These threads make me sad. People brick their devices because they didn't do their research and flash the wrong ROM, and T-Mobile ends up being taken advantage of and replacing these devices. SMH.
Send it for a jtag fix... 50 bucks at least you learn some responsibilities in the way.

NO, NO, and NO, go to device manager, I bet there is a device that says QLOAD**, if it is there, BRICKED. You will not recover without a JTAG service. If you CAN NOT get to download mode, there is NO fix. You can continue to look for a solution that does not exist, or get it over with, either exchange it with T-Mobile (good luck), or bite the bullet with the problem YOU CREATED, and pay 60.00 of the jtag service.

I agree, I bricked my phone day 1 hr 2, CAUSE, I DID NOT READ. But I DID NOT once, even think of T-Mobile and a return, I bricked it, I paid for the service. The return service is for real problems, NOT for people who abuse the system with sh** like this. My opinion.

[Q] Hardbricked Flashed international Rom SGH-i747

Hard bricked Att model Galaxy S III i was being a dumbass and accidentally flashed a international Rom and when i plug my phone to the outlet without a battery it has a red light on, when theres a battery in and its plugged in the phone shows no light or anything Can a Jig work for this? Any tips or help
oh ya and it shows up that qhsub_dload when i plug it in to my laptop
It is not hardbricked.. just softbricked but seriously read the titles and ****.. people have recovered from it just go searching around or wait for a reply with a link.
I can not stress enough.. READ EVERYTHING or else.
Edit: See if it shows up in odin, if odin sees it can you flash one of the stock SGS III AT&T roms.
Yea jigs wont work but see if you can get it in download mode and flash a stock img for your phone not the international one

FYI .. JIGS do work for the SGSIII .. I still have my JIG from when I was using my SGSII SkyRocket .. this JIG works on the SGSIII with no problems .. I use it all the time when putting my phone back to AT&T Stock through ODIN (rather than using the key combo).
its not soft bricked i cant get to download mode at all and the boot up logo doesnt show up either
Your phone is a doorstop. You ****ed the partitioning and overwrote the bootloader with nonsense. No, jigs are useless here. You need jtag to fix it__ http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/

When you used a JIG on the SGIII were you hardbricked? did it still take you to download mode?
A jig will help you if your phone boots but won't enter recovery and download mode but if your phone doesn't boot at all, not even a vibration, the jig won't work. Your safest bet is to take it back to the store and get a new one. They won't check if it is rooted. Worst case scenario if your not under warranty anymore, they may repair it and charge you .

Did I brick my S3?

Okay, I got a Galaxy S3 about a week ago, rooted, installed rom manager and left it mostly alone...... Today I tried to install a rom and it is now completely unresponsive(no matter what buttons I hold down)
This is what I did:
1. Flash Clockwork using Rom Manager
2. selected "Install rom from SD" and picekd the rom I had downloaded(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735850)
3. rom tried to install but failed, error code 7 i believe
4. CWR warned me that the phone might try to Flash the system recovery on boot and asked if I wanted to prevent it... so I let it do it's think
5. phone *reboots* but does not turn back on.....
When I plug it in to the computer it is recognized for a second(windows does the usb beep) then fails....this also happens when I try the button combinations
Pulling the battery/sd has NOT helped
flashed an international rom phone might be bricked. Hopefully it didn't actually flash and you can odin the phone back to stock.

I suppose they could have changed it since I did it the last time (Sept) but that would be crazy if they did. I get most of my phones by trading etc. And have always had them replace phones if needed (since g1 times). But I've never actually said to them that I didn't buy it new, and I've never had them ask. Maybe it's one of those things that it would be too much work to keep track of, but they can deny it if they know? Cause it could be from a different line on the account that had an exchange a few months ago so the imei wouldn't match the receipt anyways. They would need to hire an entire department to go through all of the exchanges.

JTAG it from mobiletechvideos. Don't use the warranty method. You made the mistake so man up and pay the $60 or so it will cost for them to fix it. They have great support and will keep you informed the whole way through. Using the warranty method will just jack insurance and cost up for everybody that does their homework before flashing willy nilly. Good luck.

I just got my phone back from MobileTechVideos.COM and it works perfect. They are the best hope if you hard brick.

Just bought a S3 from Craigslist -- May be bricked?

Hi,
I just bought a Pebble Blue S3 from craigslist without checking it out properly. (I know, shame on me). The phone is in physically mint condition, the water damage tab is not red and there are no signs of dropping.
The phone's screen does NOT turn on. When I hold the power button to have it load up normally, I can hear the T-mobile jingle and then a constant blue indicator would stay on the top left corner.
I have tried flashing it back to stock through download mode (Power, volume down, and home --> volume up mode) and it seems to make no difference to the screen's issue.
Flashing it back to stock might have made it worse because I can't even access the phone's internal memory through USB anymore.
Any help towards fixing my screen would be great!
Thanks.
So out of curiosity how much did you pay for a phone that you did not check to see if it turned on?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I paid $250 for it, came with original box and accessories. I thought it was too good to be true, and it seems that way. At worse I can probably break even and sell it as-is.

What does windows report it as in device manager?
If you can get to download mode it may not be hard bricked.
You could flash twrp recovery with idin, then boot recovery and try flashing something from thrre.
Also twrp has a builtin file manager so you can try to see if you can find sny problems that way. (Look for logfiles)
Are you sure its an SGH-T999?

Positive it is a SGH-T999, before I flashed the stock PDA in ODIN, Windows Device manager would list that. How do I flash TWRP? Do I need the screen to do it?

Here is the thread for TWRP. But you get to download mode by starting with the device completely powered off, then pressing the volume down, home and power button at the same time until it powers on. I dont understand what you meant by "I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark"
Button mashing I guess?
And just fyi, to boot recovery from power off
Hold volume up, home and power. When you see blue text flash on top of the screen release.
Also, flashing recovery in Odin will trip the flash counter. Prob doesn't matter considering the situation, but just so you know.

If you can get the phone in download mode, odin back to stock. Then boot into recovery using power +home + vol up and do a factory reset. This step is important. I borked my phone with a bad jb install and using odin on its own doesnt completely reset the phone. Using the factory reset fixed this in my situation

By saying I'm able to access recovery mode, I got in by basically doing the sequence of buttons, without seeing any display on the screen. I know it is in download mode because it reads on ODIN.
No matter what I click or what mode it is in, the screen is still completely off. Sorry for the confusion.

By saying I'm able to access recovery mode, I got in by basically doing the sequence of buttons, without seeing any display on the screen. No matter what I click or what mode it is in, the screen is still completely off. Sorry for the confusion.

Well that's a different story lol. Seems like a hardware fault. If you feel comfortable, take it apart and check all connections. And use a very bright light to look for any cracks on the LCD (not the digitizer) but the underlying LCD.

Ugh, I guess it might come down to that. If anyone else have any more tips before I go a head and check the connections, please do tell!
Or you can see if Samsung can repair it under warranty

Is there no way you can contact the seller? Woulda been the first thing I did!
You may not resolve anything but you could at least try to find out what they did to break it in the first place...then have some fun and blow off some steam till they hang up on you!
Just a thought.

I've had Samsung service my SGS1 that I bought off Kijiji while it was still within its one-year warranty. It doesn't just apply to the original owner, just call them and tell them it was a gift, they'll ask for the phone's IMEI, and then they'll be able to tell if it is still within its warranty period.

Phone won't turn on

Hi my sisters s3 won't turn ln . she said it charged and the. She tried charging it and it never charged or responded to buttons so she thought it was a bad plug.its been days since then and nothing only thing I can do is plug it in without a battery then the red led.comes up but it can't turn on and I've tried my battery and hers both are good. I'm pretty sure we still have 1 yr warranty from TMobile only thing is the screen is cracked and has been cracked way before the incident. So what should I do thanks and I also couldn't get it into recovery or download mode and also the water sensor stickers are still white so no water damage.

Im honestly not sure how the screen will affect the chance of a warranty exchange. Was the device ever rooted? Any roms or mods flashed to it? Was it a T999? Your country is listed as Lithuania is why I ask. Also I've heard about a sudden death issue with the international models. (Doesnt affect the T999 though).
Doesn't sound like you have many options available, so you may just want to try sending it in under warranty anyway, and hope for the best.
If it had been rooted and this happened after a flash, it could be bricked due to flashing the wrong devices rom/mod. If this is the case then you'd need a jtag repair. Otherwise, as I stated above, warranty exchange may be your only choice.

The only effect it'll have it seems they'll say the drop killed the phone instead of it being the dead s3 thing that has been going on with a small amount if S3's. Your only hope is to try and get into download mode (volume down home and power) if that's a no go then its warranty replacement/insurance hopefully. That or purchasing a new phone.
