Absurd battery consumption? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hi guys.
My phone has 9 months. I use liquidsmooth 4.2.2. .I flashed a 3.0 kernel seeking a better battery life than 3.4. But I feel that battery still draining too fast with screen on! For example : I always use battery bot to show a prediction about battery life ; when the phone is deep sleeping it always show good reports ( like 1-2 days left or even 3 , with 80%+ battery level). But when I'm using the phone for 25 minutes straight, it shows 2-3 h left (even with 85% let!).
With every rom this happens .. cm9 , monster, touchwiz5, liquidsmooth..stock.
I had to recharge my phone 2 times today .It seems it is getting worse, but on deep sleep it still lasting long..
I dont know if my battery is bloated , it seems normal to me, I will attach a photo of it later..
About screenshots:
>On the first antutu test it scored 179 but appeared a 0 first,I think it was a bug. On the second, 214.
>First was when the phone was idle for a long time.
>Then after some usage lost some battery and had a bad prediction
>The last one is absurd .. I was just messaging on whatsapp using 2g to save battery
Could anyone help please?

Dude, I don´t know what you are expecting from this phone and it´s battery, but don´t expect to last with one charge for years while the screen is on or your background LEDs to recharge your battery while they are turned on. The LEDs are consuming most and the phone can last up to 4 hours use while screen is on by using a new battery. You should read the specs in your manual instructions. Beside this your screenshoots are telling me nothing because I can´t see how long your screen keeps to be turned on. So with just screen on expect your battery to be discharged within 4 hours and if you are playing all the time with your device, expect it to last even shorter.

Is that on manual ?Ou phone lasts 4 hours with screen on at max?
On those screenshots I didnt play anything .. only using the whatsapp. My brother has a xperia u and while my phone got 100-15% his was still on 70~ .About the same use..
Okay ,I'll get screenshots of screen on time . But one of the reasons I started the topic was that continuously using screen, the battery drops too fast. Eg. : using eventually/little the phone , it lasts more than a day with screen on time about 3:30h. Using it a lot , it lasts 10-13h and screen on 1:30~
I do expect something better than almost 1% per minute. Is that really normal? That what happens if I play anything , battery just disappears really fast.. I did a test now with Dr. Driving.

Might be your battery is already faulty and maybe even getting bloated. I also suggest to check how often it keeps awake in settings->battery.
There are some tricks to incrase battery life like using some apps, disable syncing with google and facebook and battery friendly kernels, but they all will not fix a faulty battery. The main consumers in this phone are still the bachground LEDs and WiFi.

The battery shouldnt spin on a plain surface right? Well.. I tested here..it spinned a lot. Although it doesnt looks fat ...
On the screenshot ,only 25 minutes screen on .almost no use and it isnt awake all time . even so , almost 60%
I usually kill facebook process so I dont get instant notifications and sync. I downgraded to 3.0 kernel some time ago but still the same.. :/
Do hou know if this battery is good? http://www.ebay.com/itm/PolarCell-A...t=DE_Handy_PDA_Akkus&hash=item5649a70c31#shId
I couldnt find someone here using it. Seems legit.. Not one of those 3000mah ' gold 'xD

I bought this battery since my "origninal" one bloated after about 9 month (and got useless).
The Polarcell 1600mAh has only little more power than an original, but for me it seems to last a lot longer.
Been using ist since march, still no problems.
Shipment (paid with VISA) was in 24h.

Yes, this battery will do it fine. About your drop in your first screenshoot. Seems like your UI crashed and your phone rebooted. And yes, your WiFI is all time on, so draining your battery very fast.
Not sure your battery is already faulty, but the spinning is a sign it´s getting already bloated, even if you can´t see it with your own eyes.

My 'screen on' time record is 7h 34m with hurtsky's kernel v4.1 with 61-3xx mhz -I wrote xx because i don't remember frequency

Yeah.. I always let WiFi or 2g on because everyone i know uses whatsapp .. But still, every other phone lasts much more than mine.. Maybe the battery is really faulty.

Horrible Horrible Battery Life

Hi guys im wondering who else have a really really battery life, it drops so quick :S
i have brightness low,and seems its draining fast. i tried stock for a little and seems it drops not so fast but still fast, i compare with my old evo and wow was a beast it can last tooo long before drop 1% and htc one X its giving me so much issues i tried insert one coin, and im now on leedroid (seems better) i have to get juice defender ( i never have to use) using hard my old phone (EVO 3D) drops like 50% in 4 hours of Hard use, 2.5 hours bluetooth headsetplaying music, some browsing, whatsapp, twitter and facebook. sometimnes drop 60% its not so bad, perhaps yesterday in almost the same time and doing a lot less drop from 70% to 0% idk what happening or if this is normal because screen? anyone has this issue?
or maybe we can do a "test" maybe playing a video for 30 min or something wifi on, just to test.
Maybe could be my radio? im using HK htc one X in mexico, the 3G works great perhaps could drain more battery?
Any help i will apreciate thanks a lot, i love the phone but this sucks
Regards
How long have you using HOX. I am getting 1 day of battery life after heavy use.
Have you tried battery test, or safe mode?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
i have +/- 40 hours, average use,
its like my sensation, with 1730mAh battery (well in my sensation with bricked kernel i have +/- 50 hours)
wow make me feel like my battery its faulty (hope no)
well i have been using for 1 day i hope last well the next days LOL my warranty its void due unlocked bootloader xD damn i hope works well i will try charge when the phone its off, i should try make a "battery tester" i mean maybe some benchmarks? like doing some stuff and see how much battery drops, decoding and so on maybe for one hour and compare between phones to see if you have issues or something, no one has done something like that?
Thanks a lot i really like the phone i hope its just something to get fixed soon
i really apreciate all comments, and make me feel bad lol i

Drain the battery completely and then charge for at least 8 or more hours, use the phone as normal and let it drain completely again and then charge for a minimum of 3 hours, after a couple of days it should last longer and if you can or need to upgrade to the latest OTA then do so.

well that is not really helping him is it. no point you telling him you getting that kinda of use of out the battery..it is like rubbing it in his face
but anyway 3g does drain battery specially if the signal is low and it is trying to find the best possible signal for you. only use it when you need it. same goes for wifi. for wifi i would have it to sleep when screen is off.
have a look in the battery stats thread and few people give tips in there on how to extend the battery life mate.

thanks, yeah i noticed some people have great battery life and i said NOOO WHY ME!!!! heh i hope its because battery its "new" but to be new sucks hard LOL, i have good signal, perhaps something weird i see its change from 3G to edge (i never had gsm phone on this carrier where im, i had a CDMA phone so idk if its normal, or signal sucks) so i figure out im having drop call just in 4:25
maybe coincidence idk maybe has something to do, any Radio to flash? or firmware? (safe and tested one please xD)

if i was you i would not let it drain completely..let it die down to say 5% i would then fully charge it like overnight. then go here install that apk and once you have fully charged let the battery drain again. once it drains to say 15% check what wakelocks you have. that will help you see where the issue lies and the battery gets drained..better explanation on the thread i gave you the link of mate

if your carrier still shows that you have updates then i would say do that as well mate. radio as far as i know we can not flash just as yet as we need s-off to do that so your best bet is the OTA if you are not on the latest firmware
Wait & see what the battery lasts like after a couple of days of charge & discharge, mine was poor on the first day.
I always try to charge mine up over night & my battery lasts on average 40 - 48 hours now.
The other day i had wi fi on & gps on read some of a book, 3 or 4 calls 5 messages & used a gps app for a while had just over 2 hours of screen on time & after 14 hours still had 60% battery left.
There is no reason why your phone wont get that after a couple of days, hope it is the case for you
Estoy orgulloso que tenemos mexicanos que tienen un One X
Hopefully as updates come, battery life will improve
I´ve been using the HOX for 5 days and it does get better after you run some cycles, but I still find it´s not as good as the battery life on the GS2 I used to have (I was running the Illusion rom).
With the GS2 I would leave the brightness at full blast, I would watch about 1 hour of video, I would use the calendar a lot, I would make a couple of calls and by 19h when I got home my battery would be around 80%. I do the exact same things on the HOX and I get a little less than 70% at the end of the day.

Is ExtendedBatterie Worth it? and which is best?

Hi all,
i have a I9100, but the battery life is really bad, ihave to charge it up about 3 times a day.
i was wondering if getting one of thoses extended batteries (the ones which go in the phone, not the ones you plug in to the phone) is worth it?
and if they are, which one do you guys recomend?

You will get ~20% more juice with genuine battery. If you are charging your phone 3 times per day I don't think it's worth it.
P.S. What are you doing with your phone?

Wow 3 times per day? What`s your screen on time when you have to recharge? Maybe some Wakelocks?
However, a new battery the 2000 mah from Samsung can add some juice for about 2 more hours. At least for me it`s the case. With the normal battery I had about 16 h of juice, with the new one I can go with 18 h but of course depends on usage.
Hi, i get about 5 hours battery with about 3 hours screen time before I have to recharge, and is the any larger battery's then the 2000mh one?
Cheers

I think that there is something wrong, 5 hours is pretty bad. Instal Betterbatterystats and look if you have wakelocks.
Ok if you watch HD videos all the time while your screen is on or you play games very often then 5 hours is understandable.
There are batteries that provide over 2000 mah but they are not Samsung certified and could damage your phone and they are significantly bigger.
Do you use any rom or any modified kernel?
So you are on your phone 6-9 hours every day How is that even possible?
You really should read some other threads before actuly posting a question about the same thing that has been repeated 100 times.
Its on the first page as well...

If you are using mobile data all the time, that is normal... You use your phone a lot! Genuine 2000 mah battery would give you another hour of use
Go to general section, you will find many configs (UC/UV) fot better battery life.

Dude,if you're not using airplane mode ,then the problem with your battery is bad network signal. On your screenshots i can see that most of the time you have no network. When you have no signal ,the phone works to find it,thus eating the battery.
Hi, i only have airplane mode turned off for about an hour, and where it says the us no network signal is because the phone is in airplane mode

5h is really short. What r u doing? Playing all the time? I world consider to restock to ICS to check if changes you made could actually degradated power efficiency.
And for sure dont mess with CPU cores - by disabling second core you loose 50% processing power and gain very little teorethical battery juice. Android needs to work longer and harder to perform tasks.

Its kinda logical your battery don't last very long.... I mean your phone never sleeps. Its almost awake all the time!
I advise u to try betterbatterystats to find out what is keeping your phone awake all the time.....
And u probely don't wanna hear this but if u can't find anything wit BBS then try a fresh install , don't install apps or do any tweaking, and keep away from changing any kernel settings..

Based on his screen shoot he's in airplane made 90% of the time... His mobile sign would be red if there was no cellular connection.
On the side note regarding the battery it might be that you might need a new battery try the 2000mah one it gives me 5hrs of screen time with around 20hrs of total use on AOKP. If not there are plenty of 3000mah batteries available that can boots your battery life tremendously and increase the bulk of your phone, and you decide. Btw based on what you said 9 hrs of sitting in front of your phone is not normal in one day. You don't even need bb to see what's causing the wake locks.... It's clearly the user the screen time on is consistent with the wake locks.

yep 6 hours with screen all the time on and wifi its normal.

About the Galaxy W Battery

How long should the Samsung Galaxy wonder Battery last for with continuous usage for web browsing and twitter for example ?
Or how long should it last for complete stand by ?
I am asking because I bought a new Galaxy W and the battery last only for very few hours with the usage mentioned above , and I wanna know if this is normal or I have to replace it ?
Thanks in advance

Do the first time 8 hours charge, and only recharge it if only a few % left(best if charging it after it is out of battery and shut down by itself), you may use battery saver application( eg Juice Defender, Go Power Master) as well

Thanks for info MyDeSTiNaTe ,
I have bought it about 12 days ago , and didn't charge it for 8 hours as you said , Am I supposed to do that now , and may this affect the battery life positively ?
Also please read my reply to other member here in the forum may be you can help me in that
But I am still very disappointed from the battery life ,
what makes me so disappointed is that I compared my Galaxy W Battery with Galaxy fit Battery , in a life experiment making exactly the same thing on both phones ( open wifi and download from the market ) , My Galaxy W take about 3-4 minutes for the battery to decrease by 1% , while the Galaxy fit takes about 30 minutes to decrease this 1% .
The owner of the Galaxy fit told me that may be the reason is that I have 1400 processor while he has only 600 processor , and the faster the processor the less the life battery , I don't know whether what he says id right or wrong .
So I am still confused whether to take it to the warranty or it is normal ,
Can you or anyone tell me whether the experiment result is normal or I have to go to the warranty ?

Thank you MyDeSTiNaTe
It depend on rom that you use and how often you use your phone. I think cm9 by arco is the best performance & battery life compare with stock rom. I installed cm9+juice defender, my battery about 16 hours. I use it very often, autosync whatsapp, YM & reply emails. I use stock rom before, I only get less 10 hours.
Sorry my English is bad, I hope everyone knows what I mean.

Not necessary.
You'll need to do 2 or 3 complete battery cycle (that is : charge until full, then let it run out until the phone shuts down) before the battery indicator gets accurate.

Yea, the 8 hours matter is just for first time charging after you bought the phone, after that just try not to charge it until it got a few % left
Look at my battery, lasted for 2 days with web browsing and frequent gaming.
Average use for me almost 2 days.

Nope, Mutant Rom
For me the best Rom is F.A.W Release 2.
Awesome speed, awesome Battery life time, and I don't care about the design, which is Stock..
All in all, nice Rom, I'd definetly recommend it !
CM9 worked good too for me... but never as good as FAW Rls2 (talking about the Battery life time..!)
I'd also recommend you to Underclock your Phone when it's locked.
I have the following Set Up.
Screen on:
100-800MhZ
Screen Off:
100-200MhZ
Charging:
100-300MhZ [300 MhZ cause sometimes I use my phone a bit while it's charging. 100MhZ is definitly too low to write a Message via WhatsApp (well of course it's possibly, but seriously... who wants to wait minutes to answer on a message..?)]
That works out great.
I recommend this app/widget to set the Settings.
I think 1,4 GhZ is alot already... So I clocked it down.
And as I hardly play games, I don't need the speed...
Works great to Phone, Text messages (whatsapp etc.) Facebook, Browser etc.
Good Luck
Btw.

No widgets..?
That means no Phone for me... I mean, even the Clock is a Widget..!
I have like 0-2 Apps running in the Background. But I try to remove them always... But sometimes I just forget about that, cause Im kinda distracted with other things or whatever.
Screen Off...
Sound like the Phone is only turned on, but nothing is used. Well than it can last that long.
But people say they're surfing on the internet, playing smal games, chatting and what ever else... And If they're battery lasts about 2 Days, and they stil have some Percents left thats awesome..!
But honestly, 22 hours is enough for me. I don't play games, only texting, googling things and FB etc. And Im at home everyday, so Im always able to charge my Phone at the evening
And here comes a Question..:
Is the SGW's Battery the same in every Country? I mean, I bought mine in Germany, as I live here. But is it possible that the Americans (for example) have more Amperes than the german version ? Maybe that can cause big battery life time differences..?

Yea, all the capacity will be 1500mAh (unless you buy a bigger capacity battery from other manufacturers), anyway the weather may affect the battery life a bit

BATTERY

ok so i watched another video about someone else saying he got 29 hours of power on a charge. im still getting about 8 with heavy usage. not rooted yet. is this normal battery life? screen is on 3/4 wifi is always off as is gps.
Wifi uses less power than 3g. 8hrs of screen on time is reasonable at stock imho.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
With avg use, and counting that I do sleep 8hrs/day... I have 2 li-ion poly batteries & never tether to a wall... I generally get 24hrs, with about 10% or more remaining. I swap, read a book, until I am sleepy, go to sleep. The battery usually is about 95-97% when I wake up.

I don't think the op said that he/ahe is getting 8 hours of screen time. I think it's 8 hours total and if that's true then that's pretty bad battery life.
Something seems wrong

I have had the phone for a month now and have yet to kill it in under 24 hours (ok fine I got it to die in 23 hours and 36 minutes). I usually get about 1 day and 6 Hours. Of course, I am sleeping for a good portion of that... Typical screen use time is about 3 hours for me (inside that 24 hour phone use time) but I have done as much as 5 Hours of screen time. Im assuming that you could kill the phone faster if you really tried, but i have a hard time believing it would die in 8 hours unless you were doing everything you could to kill it..
ok thank you guys can i ask are you all roooted? im still on the fence about rooting this phone like i have my others. can not being rooted effect battery?

I'm rooted, running UltraLight1.5 with Perseus kernel. Rooting aside a big battery killer is the wireless network locater in Settings/Location Services. That stupid service kills battery with thousands of pointless kernel wakelocks. I used to disable Maps entirely, but that ain't needed.
I leave GPS &WIFI on all the time with screen brightness on auto, power saving turned on on the screen and cpu. 8hrs of screen on time easy...overnight at idle there's minimal eating of battery while I sleep.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
my brother got 2 days and 8 hours. he uses wifi when at home. not sure about work. he has a live wallpaper. he is stock rooted.
Obviously heavy usage is relative. I definitely get over 24 hours worth normal use. I'm pretty much on it constantly. I would imagine if you are gaming or watching videos then your battery is going to die much quicker.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Being rooted doesn't give better battery life is just an access for to things you couldn't unlock before like admin rights.
However if you freeze a few apps you don't use and close any apps after your done with them you'll get better results.

Im pretty sure those ppl who get 2 days on their phone barely use this device as far as watching videos, games, n etc. ive seen those screenshots and barely or never is video or gaming usage seen. What's the point in having this beast if not being used but left idle so the honor of the longest lasting battery is displayed for the world to see. Lol smh. Btw 8 to 10hrs for me heavy usage..

It´s almost the same by my ZL, now it get´s very warm in a very short time of using, and I have ca. 14 hours of battery with 56 minutes of on-screen time and only 20% left. And when i want to charge it over USB, it first discharge a few percent and then starts very slowly to charge.

Wow man u have to have something opened in the background that causes this drain. Disable gps and location or in stamina mode add google maps, whatsapp and other things that keep running... It did work for me.
Just to add a note. It's true that battery drains faster from 100 to 80% but it seems it last longer after that even when it is lowing. It seems that the less charge u have the more difficult to empty it..
Sounds weird I know but it is what happens to me.
Yesterday I managed 23hrs on one single charge and it gave me amazing 4.03hrs of screen time and I still had 17% left on charge...

My battery life post-update is identical to what it was before the update. There must be something else in the update that's interacting with an app or apps you guys are using to cause your problem -- I doubt it is the update itself, but more a combination of things.
Thanks to getting pretty insane battery life on the ZL, I discovered a couple of battery-draining apps that I was using that were keeping my phone awake (I imagine they were also responsible for my poorer battery life on previous phones as well). Since I nuked those apps, I get 2-3 days per charge on the ZL and that's only with using low-battery mode which kicks in at 20%, not stamina mode. My screen on time is usually around an hour with voice calls making up the majority of my usage. In my case, I found a couple of apps that were constantly accessing the GPS, thus waking the phone to do so and killing my battery in the process.
For those having serious battery drain issues since this latest update, have you guys considered installing better battery stats and actually hunting down what's keeping your phone awake and/or draining the battery?

Of course it isn't, but that isn't my point. My point is that my battery routinely lasted 3 days before the .235 update and it still does after the update. Screen-on time isn't the only measure of battery life on a smartphone (I indicated that voice calls are the majority of my usage, rather than things that require the screen to be on all the time.)
All I'm saying is don't be so quick to blame the update alone for the battery issue. If tons of users aren't reporting suddenly poor battery life, the issue is likely isolated to a few users and their specific usage. Perhaps those with the issue should truly investigate the possible cause of their particular issue via a tool like Better Battery Stats before immediately declaring the update to be the culprit.
