Is ExtendedBatterie Worth it? and which is best? - Galaxy S II Accessories

Hi all,
i have a I9100, but the battery life is really bad, ihave to charge it up about 3 times a day.
i was wondering if getting one of thoses extended batteries (the ones which go in the phone, not the ones you plug in to the phone) is worth it?
and if they are, which one do you guys recomend?
Cheers Corey

You will get ~20% more juice with genuine battery. If you are charging your phone 3 times per day I don't think it's worth it.
P.S. What are you doing with your phone?

Wow 3 times per day? What`s your screen on time when you have to recharge? Maybe some Wakelocks?
However, a new battery the 2000 mah from Samsung can add some juice for about 2 more hours. At least for me it`s the case. With the normal battery I had about 16 h of juice, with the new one I can go with 18 h but of course depends on usage.

Hi, i get about 5 hours battery with about 3 hours screen time before I have to recharge, and is the any larger battery's then the 2000mh one?
Cheers

I think that there is something wrong, 5 hours is pretty bad. Instal Betterbatterystats and look if you have wakelocks.
Ok if you watch HD videos all the time while your screen is on or you play games very often then 5 hours is understandable.
There are batteries that provide over 2000 mah but they are not Samsung certified and could damage your phone and they are significantly bigger.
Do you use any rom or any modified kernel?

So you are on your phone 6-9 hours every day How is that even possible?

You really should read some other threads before actuly posting a question about the same thing that has been repeated 100 times.
Its on the first page as well...

Hi,
I use cm9 and siyah kernel, with the profile set to battery, the second cpu core disabled, and lots of other mods to make the battery last longer, but it won't get me fast 5 or six hours.
Is the battery life in the screens normal?.
And u did Google it first, but I couldn't find an answer
Thanks heaps

If you are using mobile data all the time, that is normal... You use your phone a lot! Genuine 2000 mah battery would give you another hour of use
Go to general section, you will find many configs (UC/UV) fot better battery life.

Dude,if you're not using airplane mode ,then the problem with your battery is bad network signal. On your screenshots i can see that most of the time you have no network. When you have no signal ,the phone works to find it,thus eating the battery.

Hi, i only have airplane mode turned off for about an hour, and where it says the us no network signal is because the phone is in airplane mode

5h is really short. What r u doing? Playing all the time? I world consider to restock to ICS to check if changes you made could actually degradated power efficiency.
And for sure dont mess with CPU cores - by disabling second core you loose 50% processing power and gain very little teorethical battery juice. Android needs to work longer and harder to perform tasks.

Its kinda logical your battery don't last very long.... I mean your phone never sleeps. Its almost awake all the time!
I advise u to try betterbatterystats to find out what is keeping your phone awake all the time.....
And u probely don't wanna hear this but if u can't find anything wit BBS then try a fresh install , don't install apps or do any tweaking, and keep away from changing any kernel settings..

Based on his screen shoot he's in airplane made 90% of the time... His mobile sign would be red if there was no cellular connection.
On the side note regarding the battery it might be that you might need a new battery try the 2000mah one it gives me 5hrs of screen time with around 20hrs of total use on AOKP. If not there are plenty of 3000mah batteries available that can boots your battery life tremendously and increase the bulk of your phone, and you decide. Btw based on what you said 9 hrs of sitting in front of your phone is not normal in one day. You don't even need bb to see what's causing the wake locks.... It's clearly the user the screen time on is consistent with the wake locks.

No problem for the link. There are many ways to help save battery. I for one turn off GPS, Bluetooth, and mobile data when I'm not using them. I use AOSP Roms mostly because they give me better battery life, I use Incredikernel because it regulates how my battery works more efficiently, and I also have an extended battery. Wiping your battery stats every once in a while can help you prolong your battery life as well.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
optimized sense with the stock kernel will warrant some seriously nice battery life. thats how I maintain mine.
Depends on what I do, through a normal day (texting, few short calls, 30 minutes of music streaming, less than 5 minutes of GPS) it'll last ~1.5-2 days with CM7 nightlies and chad's incredikernel - underclocked 128MIN - ~800max
But if I use GPS all day, which I sometimes do- it'll drop 50% after 4-5 hours of use (this means screen-on, GPS running, also uses 3G data for maps) and I'll usually need to plug it in before the day ends.
I have a 1900mAh battery that fits in the stock case, so this isn't what I get on the stock 1300mAh battery.
If you can't last it through the day it usually means that you are a very heavy user (you like browsing the web all the time, streaming music, texting, watching videos) OR you have a setup that likes to eat your battery.
I need two of my 3 batteries to make it through one day. I use juice defender, and when I stream pandora at work I turn it off cause it interferes. I always have a charger handy too

I actually didn't know that the 2150 was smaller than the 3500. That thing is a beast, my friend uses one and his phone is at least twice as thick as mine.
If you are rooted, you can update the radio, I've noticed much better performance out of the updates cause they seem to manage gps and wireless better. The radio update turn off wireless if you are out of range and turn off gps if no app is using it.

yeah but you have to take into account how slim the stock incredible is. Without any case and with only the stock battery it's too thin (for me at least). Hard to hold onto the sides and I accidentally press the volume buttons often. I've also dropped it 3 times with that setup.
With a case it's great and with the 2150 it was great, loved both setups but I'm liking the new style now with the 1900 and case so that's where I'm sticking at.
Does wiping the battery stats help the battery life? Or is it just so the phone better understands how much battery is left?
Stock battery has always worked best for me.. I also have the seido 1750 mah as well as some chinese versions of 1500 mah.. I use them as backups.. I'm currently using miui as my rom and the battery life is great... I usually get about 24hrs before i'm down to 20%. No way I would make the whole day on previous roms..
I take cues from battery university. Basically, don't let the battery go below 20% shallow charge /discharge

Battery of the Gnex

So I bought a gnex a while ago, and the battery doesn't last very long.
Since I'm new in all of this I don't really know if it's normal and if it is what can I do to make it last longer?
My phone lasts about 10 hours with 3G and less than 2 hours of screen on..
It's the Google one which comes with 1750mAh standard battery. I thought of buying 2100 one but it seems very expensive unlike the bigger ones..
It costs around 35$ on ebay..
Also, can I use the Verizon or sprint batteries? From what I understand the official Samsung extended battery for Google nexus is 2000mAh? Why isn't it 2100 like Verizon?
So.. What should I do?
Thank you for your answer in advance!
My battery sucks as well I'm blaming the 4.2.1 update for making a bad battery even worse. Also the Verizon nexus is LTE enabled so its battery is even worse hence the bigger extended battery and even at stock the Verizon version has a bigger battery, the Verizon extended battery is not compatible with your Gsm nexus.

How much more battery time would the 2000mAh extended battery give me? Is it worth the 35$?

Mine's absolutely horrid, I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell's wrong with it. I'll run out of battery after about 12 hours, with the screen time at 1 hour and maybe 30 minutes if I'm lucky? The phone drinks away my battery in standby mode like a former alcoholic united with an opened beer. When I was on ICS, turning off 4G every time the screen was off with the AutomateIt app would give me excellent battery life. Ever since Jelly Bean, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I just don't even bother using AutomateIt anymore, I even uninstalled it. Useless. I check marked the option, "Restrict Background Data," but I actually had worse results with that on even. Following the thread about the Guide to good battery life, I turned off auto-sync. The only thing that seems to do for me is not get my emails in real time. No effect on the battery though. I'm guessing the battery drain has something to do with being on data (even though turning it off doesn't seem to do much) because everytime I go to school where there's little WiFi, battery's worse. Also, somehow my Messaging app takes up more battery than the screen. What's with that? I'll text every now and then, but it shouldn't eat away my battery like a fat man with the last batch of Twinkies. Enough with the dumb similes, haha, but I actually need help with this. I really don't wanna buy a battery off eBay cause the damn people are too lazy to send you the battery until a month passes, and I hate charging in the middle of the day.
I'm on 100% stock. I used to root and mess around with a ton of ROMs, but then I realized all my favourite ROMs were the ones closest to stock...
.... look at the eBay expected arrival and/or look for a seller in the USA ?
Anyway, that bit aside - have you installed something like BetterBatteryStats to be able to see what the problem is so you can fix it ?

5 hours... how !?
Easy !
I'm on stock and if I'm almost all the day on WIFI, not playing too much games, and with auto-brightness,
I can get 5 to 6 hours screen time.
(but on 4G all the day, it's more around 3 hours screen time)
This is what most people get with normal use around 14 to 16 hours and 4 to 5 hours screen time. I think the biggest issue is that 4G radio that most people have on all the time. I I have wifi everywhere so most of the time I have mine off that helps a ton. Plus all the sync stuff off, I get about 6 hours over 17 hours battery life and about 30 to 40% brightness.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
14-16 is what was normal for me when I first got my GS3 (after JB update). If you want more battery life, I recommend trying juice defender (custom settings for data off while locked). If you have stretches where you don't use your phone it works really well. Just thought I would throw that out there.

This is it !!

I am extremely frustrated. My phone has always been bad with battery life. Its been over a year or so that I have not seen my phone last longer than 5-6 hours. I am constantly looking for any chance I get to charge my phone. My life revolves around checking battery %age and plugs to charge. Smart phones were suppose to be helping us, but its like they are using me to feed the juice every chance they get.
My T989 is a "SMART" phone with
- lowest on screen brightness (and a screen dimmer overlay)
- no NFC
- no haptic feedback or keytone sounds
- No animations or graphic heavy launchers
- dont play games any more
- turn off 4G/data anytime I get a chance
- No GPS
- Manual Sync emails, facebook and whatsapp
HELL, I want to go back to the age of Nokia's where the batteries would last you through weekend and still some juice left even after it goes through laundry.
But that is not what I am here to complaint about.
I would like to know what ROM+Kernel you have and how much battery life you get ? (w/ screen time)
Who else is going through these ?
Note: Currently on JB stock and a new OEM replacement battery
How often are you using your phone? It uses a lot more battery when the screen is on. You can get over 24 hours of battery life by not touching your phone at all/no apps running.
I think most people average around 3 hours of display time without charging. Check in settings/battery/display.
I'm running AOKP and depending on how often I use my phone it can really deplete my battery.

I've been running CM 10 for awhile, and I've been getting great battery life. Recently It's been sliding, and it's due to my battery just being old. I've got a new one I'll be putting in tonight. Get Gsam Battery monitor and check out what's using the battery.
easiest way i have found to extend my battery during the day is to toggle my data..if i am not using it for a bit, just toggle it off, takes 2 sec to toggle it on, and can easily double my battery life..
I use Jedi mind trick with Tiberius kernel. It fly's and I get around 12-14hrs with 1hr and 30mins or so with Facebook 1hour and half of music and texting. So get it!
Sent from my T989 doing Jedi Mind Tricks
Do this stuff and read it carefully. And yes 3 to 4 hours is about average screen time. Makes no difference discussing total battery time. You can kill it 3 hours from a full charge with continuous use...or it can last 24 hours....all depends how often your using it and what you are doing with it.
If you go thru this other thread and follow all of the advice ....you should be fine.

These are my results, after buying the LAZA 3800mAh battery. I just had it for one day and it is light years ahead of the stock battery. I don't use NFC, and my brightness is all the way down. (Still I don't believe the brightness is low enough, seems too bright). I am a student so when I'm in class I can't obviously use my phone, so that is why the screen time is below what you guys expect. Still this battery is legit! I got it for $23 shipped (Amazon Prime). On the stock battery I had to revert back to ICS, but with this Laza battery I have no gripes on leaving it on the latest CM10.2 (4.3.1) and letting it go on Dual Carriage (DC, HSPA+42) mode. As long as I leave school with more than 70 percent battery like on my HTC Sensation, I am fine.

Areyoucrazy, 5-6 hours of on screen time or total? If that's all you get even with screen off, something is probably keeping your phone awake. Get an app called better battery stats or gsam battery monitor to figure out what is keeping it awake.

I've been running CM 10 for awhile, and I've been getting great battery life. Recently It's been sliding, and it's due to my battery just being old. I've got a new one I'll be putting in tonight. Get Gsam Battery monitor and check out what's using the battery.

I do have GSAM battery monitor installed. I had it installed since it was called "bad ass battery monitor". It always is consistent and shows that screen uses most battery (abt 35% of overall usage), even at lowest setting. I also have a screen Filter app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor That overlays on the screen that dims it even further and is believed to save some more battery.
The other major user is the apps which is
- Android &
- Kernel

Do this stuff and read it carefully. And yes 3 to 4 hours is about average screen time. Makes no difference discussing total battery time. You can kill it 3 hours from a full charge with continuous use...or it can last 24 hours....all depends how often your using it and what you are doing with it.
If you go thru this other thread and follow all of the advice ....you should be fine.

I will try the cpu spy again. I remember doing it before and it was almost inconclusive if there were things I could control vs system related drain that I couldnt control.
I am currently on a new OEM battery (2 months old) and several ROMs later,. Some ppl claim they get best battery life, I just want to mirror exact same ROM, kernel... even the apps they have and their refresh settings if I need to.

Dude.....less than an hour screen time tells something is very wrong.
First...I would bet the screen dimmer app Burns more battery than it saves.....that'd be my guess.
Second....flash a fresh rom, or stock. Run it at least a few days as is. With only gsam and cpuspy installed. Nothing else. I know you may really miss some apps....but its the only way to see if its an app, or rom, or hardware.
Then off gps after your install. Its on by default and is a huge battery sucker.
I'll bet things will be greatly improved. Then install apps.....monitor closely for changes in gsam or cpuspy.
Your screen battery usage should be more like 60 percent or higher....even as dim as it goes. That's normal. Apps, maybe 30 percent and then the other stuff. A 35 percent battery drain from the screen says you have problems.
After all your apps are installed.....try everything in that link I posted. Everything. And things should stay good.
Keep us posted.

I do believe that the battery life on this phone is not the greatest, a spare 5$ ebay battery in the wallet keeps me worry free

Bad Battery Backup??

Hi,
I have been getting only 20 hrs of battery and only 3 hours of screen on time. I have not used any processor intensive apps. Please check the images attached. Is this normal? I have bought it a week ago and I can get a replacement if the battery is defective. What do you think? Don't plan or rooting it.
P.S: I have chosen ogp over n5 because of the extra battery, but ogp's battery is equally bad.
Normal usage.
After playing 1hour of injustice i get around 3.30 of screen on time.
WiFi always on.

You need to understand that they provided the extra 'oomph' in the battery department, because this is a HUGE screen.
Another thing, is that LG's stock interface is filled with a lot of white menus, and submenus, etc.. That will also impact battery life more than you know.
Another factor to bring in to consideration is the cell coverage. Your phone has to work harder to acquire signal, in hard to reach places by your carrier.
All of these and more (wakelocks, no deep sleep, etc..) Have a big impact on your device's battery life.
