Does Google handle all RMA issues? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

So my 2 day old n7 has touch screen issues as well as a lose corner where I can lift the screen up. I bought it from Amazon. Do I contact them, or Google?

Amazon....

That is what I thought thanks

Amazon has about the best return policy of any American company. In the first thirty days, I would never mess with the manufacturer. I even pay (slightly) more to buy from Amazon because of this. Well, and the free shipping...

If anything goes wrong with the tablet after the return period you would contact Asus directly for warranty service.

And how are they to deal with, am I better off buying a square trade warranty?

ST does a 5 day turnaround. ASUS has a pretty bad record.
However, for the first year, ASUS' warranty is primary. ST covers what they don't. After the first year, ST handles it.
So, for the first year, it doesn't make any difference (other than a drop and spill claim.)

so i am getting a replaced device from verizon but its gonna be "Rebuilt"

does it makes a difference? because i paid $700 , its still the same hardware right.
Standard. They almost always replace with refurbished units.
Yeah it will just be refurbished. Just like at some point someone will send theirs in and get your phone that u sent in just that fixed up
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Sounds like you are getting a refurbished device. Typically they were owned by another customer at one time and returned. Verizon usually makes sure it works okay then sends it out as a refurbish. They are pretty much as good as a new one, for the most part, more or less, kind of okay, etc.

If you are still within the return period then try to return it for a new one. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it too much - the refurb phones most likely go through even more stringent quality inspection than the off the line production phones.

Seems like a raw deal - pay for a new phone, it has a defect, take it back, get a used phone as a replacement

i had mine replaced recently and received a brand new one. granted, this happened about a week after i bought the phone("misplaced it - idiot"). it is surprising that they are sending out refurbs already though....
I would not accept refurbished. Demand a new unit its your right

hopefully the hardware buttons are not locked and it doesnt have android os eating battery issue or any other issue
I typically prefer refurbished devices (of anything, not just phones) You are basically getting a device that spent a few days with a quality control inspector who pointed out flaws that were later fixed.
I'm not on Verizon, but if there is a limited time to return the phone, and you are still within that time period, demand a new one.
i paid full price ($649 US) for my GNEX and had an issue with the screen. i took it back to Verizon and requested an exchange for a new one. the tech i spoke with was very nice but was dragging his feet. i reminded him (respectfully) that if he declined the exchange, i would simply return it (still in the initial return period), pay the restocking fee and then buy a new one. i spent the last 4 months dealing with problems on the Bionic and wasn't about to let Verizon screw me again. he agreed to exchange it for a new one at that point. of course, another option would have been to simply drive to a different store and try again.
if you purchased your phone from Verizon, i think you have an extended holiday period until 15 january to return/exchange it. i wouldn't accept a refurb within the first week since you paid full price.
Go to a Verizon. They replaced mine in store with a brand be one

Watch for Expanxys USA return policy

I bought a galaxy nexus for expansys usa, the phone is working well and is in perfect condition but 4 days after i got it i saw that it has a crack in the inside of the screen, top left corner
I think that is a product defect and not a damaged that i did, because everything else is in perfect condition, the outside of the screen is not damaged.
Now expanxys is telling me that I am in my own, that i have to deal directly with Samsung the manufacturer.
I feel cheated i thought i had 15 days to return a product that has a clear defect.
Beware they will sold you a broken product and will not accept a return
OP, did you use American Express?
AMEX will refund you the money IF the the online retailer will not accept a return.
AMEX will also give you accidental 90 day warranty damage (if you really need to use that excuse).
That's the risk you take by buying from an online retailer instead of a brick and mortar. And it's not as big an online retailer. It's a small retailer in the overall scheme of things.
Yes i know is my fault, lesson learned, an expensive one($609), now i have to find out my options dealing with Samsung
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
Wow, this is not the kinda thing I wanted to read while waiting for Fedex to drop off my GN from Expansys. I'll have to thoroughly check out the phone as soon as I open it and make sure there's nothing wrong with it.
Good luck with getting it fixed. Hopefully Samsung will be more helpful than Expansys.
That crack is a known defect. Search this forum for "hairline".
I bought an n7000 gnote from them, but requested for an RMA before it even shipped to my house. I had the RMA printed and ready to go, but upon receiving the phone, the seal on the phone box was already broken. Now I was thinking it was a customs thing bc the US power supply that they included was outside of the box.
Their return policy says there's a restocking fee for any returned non-defective item that is open, so I gave them a call to inform them that the seal was already broken. The CSR told me that it shouldn't have been broken, even though it was an imported international item. So I was gonna get hit with the 10 or 15% (or whatever it was) restocking fee.
I called BS on them, so now its under investigation.
Bottom line is you deal with expansys, you do, unfortunately, take a risk.
They should exchange or refund your nexus. Even if it might be samsung's fault, it's still within expansys' 2 week window for exchange/return.
I'be bought two from Expansys (yakju) and they've been perfect (GSM). They do have a return/exchange policy. If you return, they charge a restocking fee.
Have you called them to talk it over or are you just complaining on the internet? Call, be firm but polite (i.e. don't pounce on them when they answer, demanding an exchange).
I found the tread about the hairline crack ,but it looks like Samsung has not admitted that this is a manufacturer defect so the retailers dont want to exchange the phone under manufacturer's warranty, and you are hit with,(IT IS A DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE CUSTOMER) even though is clear that so many people can not have caused the exact same damage to their phones

Yes i called then , and i will call then again , i let you know how it goes
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
I remember why I don't spend money with these people. Some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered. Call back and firmly force them to return it, refund your money, and choose another place that actually values your purchase.
The best way to show a company who is boss is to vote with your wallet.
I called back Expanxys USA, first the exchange department is a voice mail you can not talk to anybody there , then customer service told me that they can not do anything about my problem, that it has to be trough the exchange department email, ok i sent then another email.
After that i called Samsung and they told me that my phone was not registered and it would take 48 hrs to registered, ounce this is done i am going to send my phone to Samsung, the guy in the phone told me that if this problem is a customer damage it is not covered under warranty.
Now i am going to go with all that process, i let you know how they rule, if the problem is a manufacturer problem or not
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
forgot to tell you. the expansys returns/exchange department NEVER answers. I left 3 different messages from them, but no return calls. I suggest if you do need to contact them, email is the best way. Although it takes a rather long time for them to reply, they've replied to all of my emails so far.

Also, tell Expansys that if they do not refund your money you will dispute the charges. Retailers are penalized and can even lose their ability to accept credit cards if they have too many chargebacks

GeekSquad Warranty or TEP??

I purchased a Brand New LG Optimus G on Ebay and was offered the GeekSquad Warranty for 2 years for $80.99 and want to know what you guys think about using that instead of Sprint's TEP. They also offer another option that includes accidental spills and drops for $189 I think which is still cheaper than TEP.
What do you guys think?

That 2nd option is pretty comparable to tep. The only thing tep covers that no one else does is a lost phone. Even then you still have to pay a deductible to replace the phone.
The only thing I have a question about is how the replacements and repairs are handled. I can't find on the site any where that explains if I have to send it into them via mail or if I can walk into any GeekSquad locally and have them do it there.

I'm assuming it's the same as the insurance Best Buy Mobile offers. When your phone needs repair they have to mail it out, but they give you a loaner phone in the mean time. It only takes them 2-3 days to get it back.
I bought my phone at best buy, I have 30 days to switch over to the geek squad protection, they make it sound superior to TEP because of no deductible

Ok thank you for that!! I have heard some horror stories with the Black Tie insurance like being given a regular feature phone as a loner instead of something atleast comparable and being stuck with that for more than 2 weeks. Not sure I can deal with that!
They have to give you a smartphone as a loaner phone. They can't give you a feature phone as a loaner.

They wont "repair" it but the will replace it, GeekSquad stopped repairing phones when it was taking 2 weeks for customers to get phones back, and instead of them handing out money to unhappy customers they decided to change it to just replacing the phone, and refurbing the other for the next customer, so it won't be the same device you sent in

So with the $9.00/month plan, if I bring my damaged Optimus G to a Best Buy Mobile store, tell them I have the $9.00/month plan and ask for a replacement Optimus G, they'll give one to me? If so, how much will the replacement cost?
I work at BESTBUY mobile and yes it is well worth it not bcuz I work there but because your phone does get replaced and you're not left without a phone. So to clarify that your phone is not repaired it is replaced. As soon as the employee processes the claim in the system the replacement phone is then cued to be shipped if early enough in the day then it will be shipped off the same day from the warehouse . If not the next day. Of course taking into consideration weekends and holidays(business days). They DONT wait to receive your damaged phone and then determine whether they should replace or not. And as for loaner phone you might not get the same device but if you have a smartphone then you'll get a comparable phone if you have a feature phone can you get a feature phone as a loaner. The point is you're not left without a WORKING phone! A person's bad experience shouldn't ruin everyone else's. Whether it is lack of training or someone dropping the ball at some point 1 unsatisfied customer in comparison to how many satisfied customers?

I have done this with my lgog that was cracked and no buttons would work. The replacement lgog costs you nothing. A loaner has a refundable deposit, if you need one. However I did have a problem where the person entered my repair order wrong so instead of two days it took five days. brazilrican may be able to handle it quickly, but I had to talk to a manager to prevent them from trying to send off my phone before they would send back my replacement. Also, only Best buy mobile would do it that way. Every Best Buy full store in Massachusetts required that I give up my phone before they would do anything for me. That was my personal experience. But for 9.99 a month and no fee to replace the phone, I am okay with calling around to find the manager who will help me the way I need.

Different Phone Insurance Options

Soooo, I'm trying to decide on what insurance to use for my pixel xl 2. I currently have full coverage through Verizon, which covers literally everything, including loss and theft, but it's $11 a month and my s7 edge has a $170 deductible... Also, I bought the xl 2 from Google, if something happens to it, Verizon will cover it and replace it, BUT, I'm pretty positive I'll end up with a Verizon model with a locked bootloader.
Soooo. I'd like to know what other options there are? The coverage from Google is half the price, but does NOT cover loss or theft. The deductible is a lot less at $100 though.
I had insurance for an iPhone I had (I know, I know...) through Best Buy, but it was $15 per month, and when my phone did break, they told me 45 days at least for a replacement! After a lot of *****ing lol, I got one in less than a week though. But, that's a lot of money. So, what are you using? What do they cover? How much, and what's the deductible?
Please and thanks!

Wow, these guys are awesome! I hope they don't try to pull BS though and not pay like some companies do, it's way cheaper than any other I've seen, almost too good to be true. It's like $8 per month for a 1 year plan, cheaper for 2 (you have to pay all up front I think), and it covers EVERYTHING, with only a $50 deductible. When my phone arrives tomorrow, I'm grabbing a policy.
Thanks a ton!
Wow, so, not getting Worth Ave after all. I read a lot of reviews on their FB page, and damn, no way. One person had a mechanical failure on his laptop, which they say they cover, but was told that they do NOT cover that, and wouldn't pay. Another person had her phone stolen, which they cover, but tried to say they didn't think it was likely stolen, so they wouldn't pay. Another yet, said she had to send in her phone to be inspected to decide whether to pay or not. Sounds like a scam to me. Nope. Thanks for the suggestion though. I would definitely be careful with them!
I had them. My phone stopped working overnight after a thunderstorm, so I thought it a surge. They wanted proof of the surge. How could I do that? I won't use them for this phone. Good thing Google covered it.

Me too! I didn't even think about it. I clicked like hell through everything though lol. I'm going to either stick with my full coverage through Verizon, or go with Square Trade. My problem now is that Verizon covers EVERYTHING. Loss, theft, everything. But, $170 deductible, and I would get a locked Verizon Pixel for a replacement. With Square Trade, the deductible is a little less, and I would get another unlocked Pixel, but they do not cover loss or theft. I've only ever lost one phone, and had one stolen. That was back in the pre-smartphone-Nokia days. BUT, as soon as I don't have that coverage, it will probably happen... Not really sure what to do here.
Is square trade any good? Can't seem to find unbiased reviews on them for some reason. Do they try to deny claims?

On my Nexus 6, I called and they had no local repair shops. They said I could choose the repair venue and they would reimburse. I sent it in to the manufacturer and they did an RMA for a flat fee of $150 They would not honor the invoice because it didn't detail the repairs preformed. It was just mail in broken phone, receive working phone in return.

If you happen to have a ubreakifix nearby squaretrade is crazy easy to use. I've had to replace the power button on my Nexus 5 and the squaretrade guy didn't make me pay anything or go through any hoops. Took my phone to ubreakifix, gave them the squaretrade number, and a few hours later I had a fixed phone. Same thing with my wife's g2 and replacing the screen twice (although we may have paid a small fee for the 2nd replacement).
Heck, for iPhones you just go to the Apple store and they just give you a new one and ST pays whatever fee there is behind the scenes.
