Twitter make the phone lags - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Did anyone noticed that lately (a month? ) twitter make the phone lags when the app is in background ?
I have sync disabled on Twitter, but after i exit the app with back button as usual, sometimes after a random time I notice the phone start to be slow.. Then if I open quick system info I see that twitter started to constantly use around 5% of cpu
As soon as I swipe it away from the recent apps, the phone back to be smooth as usual
This happening from a month and I find it strange that twitter didn't fix this yet.. It was happening also with stock 4.2, so I don't think it depends from the rom (stock 4.3 actually)
Anyone else noticed it?
This thread is also a warn, if your phone start to lag without reason, try to swipe away twitter from your recent app.

yes these twitter and facebook apps does make the phone lag
I suggest Falcon Pro
that or either use Greenify to freeze the apps

ya, but the phone really get slow after twitter start using cpu in background without reason
I'll try an other app

I use Plume because can't get Falcon Pro to authorize my account(disabled).

[Q] FroYo, Facebook keeps awake

Hi Guys.
Noticed after my update (using about phone, on time/wake time aswell as *#*#4636#*#* Battery usage, partial wake screen), The new facebook app appears to be keeping my phone awake.
I disabled all facebook syncing, and rebooted the phone, and it sleeps fine,
went into the facebook app, refreshed (which worked fine), and went back to home... and now then the phone stayed awake.
Currently I'm going through the process of seeing if the facebook 'syncing' (without actually opening the facebook for HTC app) to see if that does the same thing.
I just thought I'd come here to see if anyone else is having the same issue?
I think I have the same issue. Facebook is suddenly the number one 'partial wake usage'..
ditto same here, i got no friends so gonna disable it.
i have notice if you load the app and go into settings you can turn the refresh to never, seems to work for me and then just manual refresh whenever i want to use it.
i do get an app/item called "college" mysteriously switching on?
I've found so far that in "Accounts and sync", Facebook sync causes the same issue. Facebook for HTC however does not.
My girlfriend just got the facebook update on her Legend, which is still running 2.1
I will keep an eye on it to see if it has the same issue - It's starting to look like a Facebook issue, not a HTC Froyo update issue. Which is a *****, because i use it a lot and the new update is slick.
EDIT: not sure on the 'college' thing, haven't seen that myself.
somehow i'm not seeing this issue, will have to investigate further when i get home from work
Well , if someone like me decides to go back to 1.2, it's easy. Just uninstall the Facebook app and will uninstall the update only. 1.2 is system app.
This is well documents guys here http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/apps/application.php?id=74769995908&ref=ts, so it's something that there sure to address as my phone went from fully charged this morning to empty in the space of 6 hrs. Normally it lasts me the full day.
I did wonder where the hell all my battery went! Removed. It was still rubbish as it just took you to the site for everything.
The girlfriends Legend doesn't seem to suffer the same problems.
(though 'facebook for HTC sense' syncing seems to be causing her phone to stay awake.)
I don't understand why so many developers are falling into this wake-lock issue? It's becoming a serious problem for Android.
SORRY

Well google have now acknowledged the problem and say they are in touch with HTC.
So I suppose we now have to sit and wait.

Have you got a link to this?
Mine seems like it sleeps, but still the wake time is huge.
Uptime: 33:59:30
Awake time: 23:57:55
Wth, only 10 hours sleep in 33 hours :/
EDIT: yes, at partial wake Facebook has huge line, and android system and dialer a really tiny ones.
Disabled "Facebook for HTC" sync from accounts and sync, rebooting, and will see how it goes.

I also tried this, if it seems to work for you try opening the facebook app (without sync enabled) and see what happens. (Just the app, even with sync and notifications off, is enough to keep my phone awake)
Yea I'm having the same issue !! where is the link to Google's acknowledgement?
I got this issue as well !! Bloody Facebook
I always set the Refresh to NEVER and not using notification.
Where is the Google acknowledgement of this issue?
Hope this will be fixed soon.
In the meantime, reboot the phone and dont use Facebook app!

Sorry.
I posted this into the wrong thread. The fix was about the Gmail sybc problem.
Sorry
Yup this is a problem with the facebook 1.3 update.
http://geekfor.me/news/facebook-1-3-wakelock/
I uninstalled the update and went back to 1.2 for now.
I don't think its just Froyo either.... i'm on 2.1 and the new 1.3 facebook update.
My battery seems to be taking a pasting with CPU time very high for the facebook service.
Same problem here. "Time spent without sleeping: 100%" and Facebook app in "Partial wake usage" had a bar the size of the great wall of china. Uninstalled, the touch site is better anyway.

[Q] Is ICS on HOX killing apps for no reason?

I have found that my One X often kills apps I have running when I press the power button and put it away for more than a few minutes. I know Android will try to reclaim resources starting with background apps but this is killing the app I am currently looking at.
I have almost nothing else running and my system normally has 200-300 mb of available memory so it is a very unexpected behaviour. A typical example is I have something like firefox displaying a page. I read a bit then press off. I come back 10 minutes later and it needs to restart and reload the page. With previous phones the app would still be in the foreground the next time I turn it on and unless I navigate away it would stay that way.
I have a nexus s running ICS and that does not happen.
I have a desire running GB and is doesn't hapen.
I have a desire running Froyo and it does not happen.
Is there any way to force a less aggressive memory management on HOX?
There is an option for this, in settings > developer options, furthest down under apps section, first one; "Don't keep activities" check if it is enabled.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
.. also beneath it, there is a restriction "Background process limit", it may also cause immediate kills if "no background process" is set
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Thanks for the suggestions but those were set normally.
Tried using the built in browser instead of firefox and the problem was significantly reduced. It seems the system has a bias against non google apps. Even so - this HOX is behaving different in this respect to my other phones. It is my expectation as a user that if I am doing one thing, that thing should still be there the next time I look at my phone.
Something on the device may be leaking and the result is this need to stop stuff. My money is on sense ( mainly because of the observed ripple/flicker on the home screen ).
I've noticed same with my new one x it seems over eager killing all apps even sense launcher.
settings are correct but using chrome I don't dear open anything else for fear of it closing chrome and having to log back into everything, sometimes its as bad as just answering call or replying to a text message and its been killed
just as annoying it even kills launcher if I press home after using an app for more than a few minutes I get the please wait spinner while it has to load launcher
had ICS on desire HD and on zoom tab... this is not how it should work can't believe a phone with more memory and designed to run ICS is having to kill everything when DHD runs perfect
annoying little thing that is so far ruining what is otherwise an amazing phone
Seeing the same issue on my One S.
This happens with Dark Meadow. If the screen times out, or you hit the lock button, the game kind of "crashes". Not sure if this is the One X killing it or whether it's how the app is coded.
It's irritating anyway ><
Applications with a notification icon have not this behavior. Is there a possibility to set a higher priority to applications without root?
I'm having the same problem.
With cm9 @ Desire Z, I could, say, restore my 3000 sms within GoSMS (which takes a while) and meanwhile do whatever I wanted with the phone, eg. browsing, texting and so on.
With the H1X, after a certain time, the apps gets killed/suspended and therefore anything that happened within the app - which is pretty annoying. Any solution in sight?
H1X @ ARHD
I get this too. Annoying.

Sense launcher closing is not cos of the over-aggressive app killing. It's cos the system needs more RAM, so closes Sense since it's not directly in use right now. I do notice that some apps are getting closed after a period of inactivity, probably a default ICS setting that we can tweak when kernels and ROMs get more mature releases
I'm suffering from this defect as well. It's frankly astonishing that this phone behaves in this way. Really makes you wonder if anyone actually uses the phones before releasing such junk. What use is such fantastic hardware if it performs so badly in real use conditions. Every time I press home, loading. Try to run some javascript Web pages then go send a text, then back to browser and all tabs have to refresh. Mine is going back if it doesn't get fixed pretty quickly as it's practically unusable in this state. Battery is unsatisfactory as well. 2 hours on battery, screen on for an hour, 57% left?! What are they thinking seriously

If your battery is that bad you have a bad app running rampant or your battery is faulty.
For everyone else, even in settings if "Don't keep activities" is unchecked, try checking it and unchecking it. I read that sometimes it is still set to "Don't keep activities" even if it is unchecked and checking and unchecking it could solve the problem if this is the case. Doesn't hurt to try.
Hopefully one of the devs will make a Rom/kernel with better oom adjustments... I'm hoping.
the multitask implementation on this phone is terrible. I was using runkeeper, stopped to check something in my settings during the ride, phone closed the runkeeper application deleting my ride. It is getting annoying ...

Facebook

Has anyone else had issues with Facebook? It only likes to load for me if i have a strong data signal, (i get a signal lost screen constantly) and the app also goes rogue quite often and won't even allow my phone to charge because it's using up so much cpu. I've tried deleting and reinstalling to no avail. It acts this way on different roms as well. I don't remember earlier versions acting this way.
Anyone else?
I've had similar issues...not so with the charging issues though. Sometimes ill start it up, it will time out or do whatever its doing, and it then sits ans eats up 20 percent or more of my CPU until I close it. I've uninstalled it since it will sometimes begin eating up CPU on its own. Not a terrible thing since I'm not on Facebook but definitely needs to be fixed.

I started using friendcaster which doesn't hang up like Facebook, although you still need to be signed in to Facebook on your phone. You would think an app for a site like Facebook would be flawless. There's no reason it can't work just as well as tapatalk.
I agree. Facebook app is so badly developed. At times I noticed in battery stats that it would prevent the phone from going into deep sleep causing battery to drain. Friendcaster is a great alternative. I use it.

same here, phone gets super hot with it, then I go into task manager and its got the cpu pegged at sometimes 50% or more. Ive actually just created a shortcut to the mobile site which actually looks and mimics the app, the only thing is you dont get contact sync unless you use social hub or leave the fb app installed.
tweetcaster on non aokp roms causes the same issues for me

[Q] various questions

Hi guys
I am a fequent user of skype video calling, however my phone gets really hot whether or not its on charge and my battery has now started to drain quicker even when i do not have skype running. My question is what can i do to reduce the battery drain? In terms of the phone getting hot, i have a roxfit shell on my phone so should I take that off? I heard that its okay to keep the phone on charge whilst playing games, etc but I want to make sure, I have already reduced my brightness when using skype.
Also my phone has started to lag a lot recently. I have plenty of free ram. For example ill receive a whatsapp message when I swipe down the notification bar to access the message the lock screen will takes a minute to unlock and then a further minute to get into the message.
Should I factory restore my phone then set everything back on?
Try to killing Skype in Settings when you aren't using it.

Exiting skpe is not enough. Many background services keep on running which cause wakelocks on the phone. Facebook, Whatsapp etc. sort of apps cause wakelocks. So, after you finish using skype, just go to settings-->apps--->Skype and force stop it. As of Android 4.0, apps cannot start by themselves after being force closed by the user. Google thought that app devs should respect the user's decision so they implemented this feature in the Android API.

Tab S t-800 overheating?

So up until about a month ago my tab s was fine, I was running stock lollipop but was rooted at this time. Then I started having some weird issues where it would hang while surfing on chrome, buttons would be unresponsive, couldn't scroll. The battery level started going a bit crazy, dropping quick. Then when rebooted it would jump up 20%. Also, when I'd reboot usually it would be better for awhile with no freezing.
When it continued to happen I started thinking something became corrupt in the OS. So I updated to Schizu's version of MM. That ran really well and I really liked it but then I noticed the battery drain issue that seems to plague that build. I could only get maybe 2 hours of battery of of a charge. Also it would get quite warm, I'm pretty sure I had the tablet shut down on me once or twice when the overheating was reported. Tried undercoating the cpu, didn't seem to help me.
Then came out the official MM build so I switched to that. Now I'm seeing battery drain and overheating. It will warn me it shut down a few apps and then a minute later it will just turn off.
At this point I'm starting to think the tablet is shot. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark

Did you flash a rom that`s alters the cpu frequency like overclocking, Maybe when you flashed a stock rom it did not overwrite the overclocking, I am an rom newbie myself, you need to speak to those with more knowledge.
But it looks like your battery has gone bad and need replacing.
Sort the overheating first as a bad rom can affect the battery as well, though the battery is most likely on it`s last legs.
John.
reinstall MM but before that wipe data , cache and dalvik and use odin to reinstall marsmallow
My problem with overhearing is the Google Chrome app update. That's correct, Chrome! If I update the Chrome app that that is included with marshmallow, then my Tab S starts overheating and eating up lots of battery juice. It's due to some mediaserver service constantly running in the later versions of Chrome which causes the processor load to go way up even when I've left Chrome. If I open the recent apps and just swipe the Chrome app away, the processor load returns to normal. So, you could uninstall the Chrome updates and stop Chrome from auto updating in the Play Store since from my testing the version delivered with marshmallow doesn't have this problem.

I just disabled Chrome with Package Disabler Pro. I hate that browser...it's a pest Hope that stops that Media apk too, though I did not disable it. I don't know what it's purpose is.

Since I have owned this tablet my one biggest gripe has been web browsers! I have tried just about all the popular ones and not one of them acts right on FB (the FB app just sux). The best I have found is Lightening Browser. Not perfect, but heads above the rest IMHO. Works better than IE does on my PC! Big thing with it though seems to be (A) keeping the cache clear and (B) posting a comment on FB. Type one word and then a space and the OSK closes and the cursor jumps out of the text box. Then you have to tap it to continue and don't bother trying to use suggested words.
Dolphin is absolutely the worst
Boat Browser for Tablet needs an overhaul for MM at least with the SM-T800 it will totally lock up the tablet when browsing long lists of items like a search for an item on ebay.

Well, it seems the latest update (54) to the Chrome app is no longer doing this on my Tab S. Getting good battery life now, especially with using the Reading Mode setting on my most used apps.

I completely wiped like mentioned above and reinstalled. Did not update Chrome and have been good. Battery life isn't as good as I'd like but it's acceptable. I guess I'll allow Chrome to update and see what happens now.
