The best I've got is 24181 kbps download and 9692 kbps upload. I've attached an image (though not my best results), though I'm not sure how to embed it in to the message. The LTE here is iffy. I can be setting somewhere with 3 or 4 bars of LTE, look down a minute later and it has switched to H+ or 3G,
The phone normally switches to 3G on idle to save battery I think.

That could be it. However, it does it sometimes when it's not idle. In the same spot, it may switch to H+ or it may switch to 3G, or it may alternate between all 3.

I only see it change from LTE to 3G when LTE signal drops below one bar.

Could be T-Mobile's incomplete LTE rollout too. Chicago is still unofficial from what I understand. That might be what we are seeing.

I noticed this behavior has gone away with the .244 update. I was paying attention at work where this was happening. It's gone now. My speeds haven't changed so maybe it was the firmware.
BTW. Your speeds are awesome. I remember loading up WAP pages via GPRS and being charged by the kb (that's kilobits).

San Diego is an official LTE market but there are plenty of areas where I don't get LTE.
The phone will switch to 3G when on a call as well, so that could explain why you see it switching when the signal is good.

The technology is not the problem, it's the spectrum. Most LTE deployments in the US are 10Mhz x 10 Mhz (some use 5x5). If they all had unlimited spectrum they would make the pipes larger, but that's not usually the case. T-Mobile has said they will deploy 20x20 in 90% of their coverage eventually (right now they have a combination of 5x5 and 10x10). AT&T (they usually have 10x10) will probably add more depending on what their spectrum holdings are in different regions.
Other carriers around the world will face similar issues, so the real world vs theoretical speeds will differ. Some really good results so far!
Cheers for the breakdpwn,
I notice too that the Z/ZL are listed as LTE CAT3 50 Mbps Upload/100 Mbps Download.
Whereas the latest ZU/Z1 are listed as LTE CAT4 50 Mbps Upload/150 Mbps Download.
Looking forward to more generous data add-ons for mobile plans.

It's the Now or Later Network. If you actually have 10Mbps down WiMAX (which is about 5% of active WiMAX networks) you get things pretty fast. You still buffer YouTube for 10 seconds before it starts. Although on the highway about every OTHER tower in a WiMAX area you do a WiMAX-3G switch every 10 seconds.

The results you posted are consistent with my experience on Sprint in SE Michigan. I'm speaking past my knowledge here, but I believe the network hasn't been upgraded since the EVDO rollout some 5 or more years ago (aside from wimax of course (which is nearly non-existent in MI)). Now think of all the new smartphones and the demand on that old network.
I don't know that it has so much to do with wireless reception as it does the towers connection to the backbone and the demand on that connection. I get into some congested areas and have full signal but crawling data speed.
There's some speculation to ponder.

When I have hellish speeds I force roaming on the 11115 PRL. Whether or not it's immoral or that its a breach of contract, I think its justified given the fact that I was in Ashburn Virginia a few weeks ago and had a ping to Ashburn of something like 783. The speeds were pathetic as well, but forcing roaming brought both speeds and pings up to expected values. Good thing we know that Verizon can keep good connections.
That's some advice. There are some threads about loading the 11115 PRL which allows one to roam on Verizon's faster EVDO network. It's one of the more difficult mods I've done but the process is well documented.
Here I go talking outside my knowledge again. I believe that Sprint has to pay Verizon for the use of that roaming arrangement and they don't appreciate abusers. There have been posts about nasty grams and contract termination.

There are a number of factors that can affect your data speeds obviously, but imo SpeedTest.net is not exactly a reliable way to measure. I think its fine when using to test one setup vs the next on your phone, but I can get significantly different results from one moment to the next, from different locations, from different servers, etc.
i.e. I get crap speed on a server 40mi away but get pretty decent speed on one over 300mi away.
I also notice most times that even when I get bad test speeds, my downloads and browsing are usually still fair to great.
There are other, better sites you can use for testing. I cant remember right off hand but there is a post in my modem thread with some listed. Ill try to remember to check it in a bit and will post some here for you.
There are also some other tweaks that can help, such as these in build.prop:
ro.ril.hsxpa=3
ro.ril.gprsclass=12 (or 32, 34, 36)
I have plans to post a lot more info about this in that thread. Just gotta get my computer back up and get a little more organized!
Hope this helps some of you for the time being!

Doesn't this phone not have EVDO but SVDO or something of nature? When it comes to 3G it all depends on your location to pick up SVDO speeds. During speedtests in my area, with full bars, I'll get 1.2mbps down but most of the time I struggle to hit 1. In my girlfriends neighborhood...it is constantly 2-3mbps down. I would imagine because her 3G towers are upgraded already? The only reason it doesn't bother me is because I actually have 4G LTE most of the time in my house and whenever I go outside or down the street etc.
Data speed is awful here....even close to the tower.
When I upgraded to the Note 2 they took away my discount. Now I have crappy data AND a higher bill. We aren't supposed to get LTE until end of 2013 in St. Louis. I really don't think we will get in the small town I live in at all. So, I think I am taking this back and switch to AT&T. What good is unlimited data if its so slow that I cant use it. At&t us the only option. T mobile and vzw have no coverage here. Sprint was of no help including the retentions department. BYE SPRINT

Its driving me crazy! Here in Las Vegas it comes on for about 12 seconds and then goes away...
Today is the first day I've had LTE all day. If u can get on I don't see why they would boot u off since it's official now

Flashed the BMB4 modem, *#2263#, then
Switched on LTE/GSM only and only getting edge now. I live in the west Valley off of 101 and Camelback, is there LTE out here, or did I not select something correctly?

I chose option 6 but after reading your post I went ahead and chose the option LTE only (all bands) and I finally got a 4G LTE signal but 0 bars.
Funny thing is I still get internet connection but my speeds were 9637/627.

Where in the valley are you? Also what logo pops up when you have LTE?

I'm in Gilbert currently. The icon said 4g lte (attached image).

I have noticed everywhere I go that had excellent WiMax coverage on my evo has horrific 3G and LTE speeds. Has anybody else noticed this or have I begun to loose it due to the sluggish data speeds and dropped calls?

Dear God, yes! I'm glad that you mentioned it because I was beginning to think that it was some mistake in setup that I'd made.
I live in San Diego, where (finally) Sprint is bringing online lots of 4G LTE zones around the city and county. One thing that I've noticed is that every area that was once a Wimax test area has not been converted to LTE yet, and as you've pointed out, the unconverted zones tend to have the worst 3G service. I hope that someone knowledgeable in the subject posts an answer soon.
Thanks for sharing, by the way. :good:
While they do upgrades to towers to bring lte online they shut down towers which load other towers more and cause slower 3g speeds also if your in area with no lte yet and a lot of people have upgraded their phones and do not have a wimax capable device means they are all now on 3g so there's more users on 3g which again overloads the system. So if tower upgrades are going on and now there's an abundance of more users on 3g go figure why it's slow and crowded. I hope this answers your question. Now when lte goes live many users will move to lte freeing up 3g bandwidth.

The areas im referring to have lte/wimax/3g available so it's mind boggling heck my fm and dtv reception are horrid as well I'd almost wager a paycheck WiMax is a sloppy dirty tech that causes interference

WiMax area
A few miles down the road never had WiMax
Very interesting, but there may not be a Sprint tower where the wimax is available and there is one where the other test was done. Could it be the same tower your just closer? Remember Wimax worked on a different Radio bandwidth usually hosted by Clear Channel Radio in most major cities.

Both are same distances from sprint towers the slower speed one is from the tower I used to pull 12+ mbits from on WiMax the faster never had WiMax. Roughly 2 blocks away from their respective towers and parked

The faster one was done at 3am. The slower one at 5pm. That could explain some minor slowdown, but the number gap from your speed test is, in my opinion, too significant to explain away by network congestion.
Are they still rolling out 4g in your area? Is it "officially" turned on? I know when they first activated 4g in my neck of Los Angeles, the speeds would alternate between abysmal and stellar on a seemingly random basis. Now that it's "officially" on, the speeds are much more consistently on the high side.

I'm in a rollout market we have been live for quite some time aprox 8 months I think. The slower speed is 24/7 thats my home tower and the faster one is close to work so my test times are limited I refuse to visit that place when I'm not getting paid
