Hi everyone !
3 weeks ago I installed the Xperia UHD 4.0 rom on my arc s following the indicated steps except for the root (my phone was rooted with eroot). Then I tried to install Greenify has recommanded by jader, but i noticed it always failed at hibernating apps. So I checked if I still had my phone rooted, in 2 ways : via Root Checker app, and via a method with Connectbot (if you want to know search "is my phone rooted").
I realized my phone isn't rooted anymore but i have CWM installed (don't know why but i can boot in CWM...), so I'm asking :
- Is it safe to reinstall xperia uhd ? (since i'm not root anymore)
- Any idea to get root back ?
If anything is missing, just tell me i'll add it
EDIT : i tried to reinstall UHD 4.0 but now I'm stuck at the sony logo. If someone is able to help that would save my life
And i tried SEUS, which tells me I have the most recent firmware.
Try installing SuperSU and see if you can regain root access. UHD comes rooted so you don't have to do anything to your phone unless you uninstalled Superuser which will make you lose root...

I know, that's the point : I didn't uninstall anything ...
Yep ! So I've just downloaded and opened the app. It tells me to update binary, i had to choose between "Normal" installation and "CWM installation".
I tried "Normal" and I got a german message which basically said "Superuser has been detected and it may causes conflicts, do you want to try to remove it ?". I pressed no, and got "Installation failed".
Then I tried CWM installation. It tells me it's going to reboot in recovery, and if nothing happens access recovery manually.
Concretely, it reboots, but normally (and nothing happens). So if I reboot in recovery, I have to install SuperSU from SD (with the zip given in the xda thread) ?

I tried to do that, nothing happened. Absolutely nothing, it did not even uninstall Superuser...
Any idea ? By the way thanks for the previous attempts to help

I assume you mean reflash from recovery mode ("install zip from sd card"), without wiping data and without formating /system. I'm trying right now.
EDIT : I tried, but now i'm stuck at the Sony logo . Everything went well, except the reboot failed... If you know what to do, like taking out and in the battery and try rebooting, it would be cool...

If you're using UHD4, it should come as a AROMA installer. Just select upgrade from existing installation. You will keep your data this way.

That's what i've done, but as said previously, I'm now stuck at the sony logo... I am going to search for some kind of unbrick method using flashtool (i'm going to try to reflash the stock firmware, then reroot via eroot, and reinstall UHD 4.0).
Finally reflashed stock .587 and rerooted via eroot, worked like a charm ! Thanks for your help by the way !

Hey guys, first of all I'm a complete n00b to all of this stuff, so please bear with me and consider using layman type language with me. Some of you may think I shouldn't even be messing with this stuff with my limited knowledge, but I'm determined to get the best out of my Galaxy Nexus and generally learn quickly and follow directions well.
Here's the bullet-point run-down of what happened:
- Bought a Galaxy Nexus that was "yakjuux" and wasn't getting updates.
- Read through a thread on here on how to flash to "yakju". Did so successfully.
- I then wanted to root since my device was already wiped from unlocking bootloader or flashing some partition or something
- Followed this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19583168#post19583168)
- Rebooted, saw the "Superuser" app and thought I nailed it.
- Saw an update for Jellybean, it requested a reboot before install
- Upon reboot I got a dreaded android on it's back with a red exclamation, nearly wet myself. Took battery out, put back in, phone booted normally. It didn't update to JB anymore and when I check for updates it doesn't show. I figured it'll come around again.
- Went to "superuser" app to update, it said it "Failed!" upon trying to gain root access. Upon reading around, downloaded SU Update Fixer from the store, failed gaining root access. Read some more, downloaded "Root Checker" app and it said my device was not rooted.
So where do I go from here? I'm tempted to just follow the 'flash to yakju' thread again and go back to a clean ROM and forget rooting, but maybe there's something simple I can do from here.
** One side note, in that rooting thread I mentioned above, I did not understand step #7 (7. Using CWM recovery, install su.zip that you downloaded in step 1) too clearly. I didn't understand how my phone could even get the su.zip file. So after reading some other rooting methods, I copy and pasted the .zip into the "Internal Storage" drive under My Computer > Samsung Phone > Internal Storage. Then using CWM Recovery on my phone just selected to install it from sdcard (since the Gnex doesn't have an sdcard) and it seemed to be a success. But I'm not sure if that was right. I assumed it was since I got the Superuser app.
Another thing that felt kind of wrong is that, when I flashed to yakju, it wiped my phone clean. I expected rooting to do the same thing, but it didn't (I think because my bootloader was already unlocked?). So I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it either.
Please help. And remember to please refer to things in dummy form. I only know things that involve the above, like using the cmd and typing fastboot and flashing files from a directory, etc.
Thank you in advance.

Re-install superuser the same way you did the first time. The OTA failed because you have a custom recovery installed. If you want to update to Jelly Bean, look into installing one of the JB ROMs in the development forums, or if you must have the OTA you'll have to flash the stock recovery and make sure everything else is stock as well. OTAs do not care if you are rooted or have an unlocked bootloader.
you can also install the OTA manually, heres my method
1) grab the link for yakju IMM76i > 4.1.1 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764536 and place that iin your sdcard. ALSO download this version of Superuser (chainfires one): http://download.chainfire.eu/197/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.93.zip and place that in your sdcard too.
2) install clockworkmod recovery again the same way you did before, using fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, press vol down twice in the bootloader and go straight into the recovery.
3) install the OTA zip you downloaded and placed in your sdcard
4) clear cache and fix permissions (might not be necessary but you can do it just incase)
5) reboot, you should now have stock jellybean. the ClockworkMod recovery would be removed at this point because stock android has a file in system which replaces the stock recovery after every reboot, unless you delete that file.
6) go back into the bootloader, flash recovery as before and again boot straight into the recovery. this time flash the superuser zip you downloaded.
7) reboot. should be all sorted now

Thanks for the fast response.
So basically, I just copy and paste su.zip again into my Internal Storage on my computer. Put my phone into Recovery Mode, plug it in, find and install that su.zip again, and then reboot?
Also, this is something I didn't know: So if you are rooted, you cannot update "normally"? I will always have to flash over the latest ROM?
Thanks.

They only care that the recovery and /system are stock, and even then (as I said) don't care if you're rooted. Rooting doesn't matter. Having a custom recovery does. They are not the same thing. Also, read through ||Nexus|| response.

OK, thank you so much. I'm going to do exactly this. When I "fastboot flash" these over again, will they just replace the old ones? Or do I have to uninstall the ones already on my phone or something. I feel like it may get cluttered or something lol, sorry if that's stupid.

no, youre just reflashing the recovery which wont affect anything else. once you reboot it will revert back to the stock recovery anyway, so youll be able to get future OTA updates just fine.
edit: yes itll just be replacing the recovery, nothing else

Wait, actually I don't think the JB installed now that I'm staring at the screen properly.

Also, the drivers I thought I had for my phone seem to be messing up and in device manager it says "Full" with an exclamation point. I'm not sure why.

I just tried reinstalling the drivers and everything and for some reason it's not working. I flash Clockwork Recovery, I see the JB.zip, but when I click to install it it says "assert failed" and has the dead Android. Not sure if it's a driver issue, but I redid the Universal Naked one I had before that worked.

Hey guys!
My Xperia Arc S is kinda new - 1 month old.
I was on Xperia Ultimade HD Rom for a while and wanted to install another rom, so i did via CWM Recovery.
All fine.
I wanted to restart my phone but it got stock in Sony Logo.
Because my bootloader cant be unlocked i rooted with kernel downgrade and CWM is not there after flashing due to the wipe.
So i flashed stock .tft with Flashtool and phone booted again.
Now when I'm trying to flash anything my phone gets always stuck in Sony Logo (even when i try Eagleboy's mode without wiping!).
Anyway: I'd like to install a custom rom.
Does anyone how to fix this?
Bootloader: Locked
Phone: LT18i
Rooted: yes
... and I have the 4.0.1.B.0.587 firmware installed right now.
Thanks in advance!
Phone Flashing problem
That's the only problem with locked bootloader's:crying:When you install some stock custom roms you have to wipe system to do a clean install which by default wipes cwm because it is installed in system for locked bootloader's.So if you have a problem with a install you have to flash another .ftf because you wiped cwm recovery.
When I first had arc I had a locked bootloader and it was a pain if something went wrong while flashinghaving to flash again etc! etc! It just got to stage where I had enough and took the plunge and unlocked the bootloader.:good:
I'm afraid it's one of those things you have to live with unless you unlock your bootloader:crying: ( I know you said you can't )there are quite a few stock roms that work but like I said if anything goes wrong you have to flash .ftf again.Probably a case of just trying each one Jader's rom alway's seemed to boot nice:good:

Hi, thanks for your answer
I tried to install 3 different roms till now - i wiped everything.
Then: Boot till sony-logo - I have to flash another tft with flashtool, Root again, and this takes time and is quite annoying.
I came from Samsung Galaxy S there wasn't the problem with the "bootloader" which is really annoying.
So: What should i do now?
I mean my CWM is not persistent and till now no rom worked.

Hi totally agree it is frustrating!:crying: When you install some of these custom rom's they use Aroma installer are you unticking the reboot option in aroma installer and rebooting from cwm?Because you need to reboot that way (you seem to be doing everything right )
(1) Boot to cwm
(2) Wipe cache/Data/Advanced Dalvik cache
(3) Mounts & Storage format data/cache/system (NOTHING ELSE!)
(4) Install .zip on Sd card
(5) Choose options Aroma Installer
(6) Untick reboot option
(7) Reboot from cwm

Only other thing you could try is changing your base firmware/ftf I notice you are using .587 base ftf try changing to another one, although Some of the custom roms recommend that firmware
Maybe someone else as any ideas
Απ: Flashing problem
If you accidentally formatted system then you removed the cwm. Try flashing the official ftf, install x-parts and redo everything without wiping system partition.
The other choice is to unlock your bootloader and you'll never face this problem again. I voided my warranty less a month after taking my phone, I knew that any problem will come up I could fix it myself

Yep sure - but my CWM is gone when i wipe data. And I tried this: I flashed stock .ftf and installed xparts, then flashed a ROM without wipe - but doesn't boot and I cant access CWM again :/
And as I said i can't unlock my bootloader.
.. But the strange thing is just:
I even get bootloop when I install EAGLEBOYYS MOD (!) without WIPING anything! (just the recommended for sure)
That should not happen.
Why can't you unlock bootloader? Doing that would solve most of the problems you are facing. You don't have to downgrade to re root. Flash the stock kernel, install a new recovery then try again.

If I go in service menu it says: Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No !
If I flash stock .ftf root is gone (?) -- RootChecker says that root is gone too.

First of all - this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
I advice you to take step by step STRICTLY.
Or you can try to root with the FlashTool but I'm not sure if it will work with locked BL.

Thats how i rooted my Arc S!
Thats the only method that is working with locked BL.
And well, i took all the steps mentioned in the second topic you posted..
If you can't get it to work (stuck on Sony logo), then flash this in flash tool and then root again and do it one more time.
It´s ICS and kernel for Arc S but works fine on regular Arc. I use it myself on my Arc.

Which ROM are you trying to flash?
Is that ROM for locked BL ?
So far ive tried superoneclick... froze on step 7
tried manually installing superuser... couldnt verify.
tried installing a root zip... couldnt verify.
the only thing that claims to have worked is clockworkmod... except that it will NOT allow me access to any of the actual rooted functions.
i was able to download superuser (which you cannot download from google play unless rooted- that worked.)
trying to keep the OS on it now while being able to delete bloatware, for a friend.
is it purely impossible to root a stock rom? why can i install programs that requre root but i cannot use them for their intended purpose (rom manager says it cant find superuser in either of 2 locations).
what the heck am i missing?? ive been googling and trying methods for hours to no avail. cant boot into cwm recovery at all, by rom manager or from powered off (it goes into stock recovery.).
what else can i do?

i was able to download superuser (which you cannot download from google play unless rooted- that worked.)
trying to keep the OS on it now while being able to delete bloatware, for a friend.
is it purely impossible to root a stock rom? why can i install programs that requre root but i cannot use them for their intended purpose (rom manager says it cant find superuser in either of 2 locations).
what the heck am i missing?? ive been googling and trying methods for hours to no avail. cant boot into cwm recovery at all, by rom manager or from powered off (it goes into stock recovery.).
what else can i do?

Did you watch the video in the CWM thread?
Tell me your steps EXACTLY and we'll figure it out.
Finally got it to work. i guess the magic step is not letting odin auto reboot. I was afraid not to let it because its not even mine. But, i followed the video in that thread exactly and that let my root zip install correctly.
phew!

Well actually the guide say rem8ve the check mark of reboot. You most do it by your own.
Send from my SM-T210R (Rocket Tab Rom) using XDA HD Premium
hey, im new to Android, after moving on from my Iphone 4 to my the new M9, i start wondering.
i got my phone unlock booter threw the devHTC,
got it S-ff with the great app (that i forgot the name) which i payed for it.
installed SuperSu update to give roots privilages, and also BusyBox Free.
thoese are my problems:
1. installed SB game hacker, and its says after i gave it root privilages that i dont gave it, or i dont have root acces.
the thing is that with GameKiller i do get root access...
2. trying to apply patch with the Lucky Patcher sometimes i get root unstable window error that asked me to update my
SuperSu even thew its update to last vesrion.
3. again with Lucky patcher (which does get root privilages for sometimes) - i try to install threw the toolBox -> patch to android -> Signature Verificcation Status Always True , and after it reboot i go back to it and it says its not patched. like the patch failed.
i tryed to clear the core.jar and the service.jar but it doesn't help, it doesn't patch it.
4. i got the new System Update 1.36.709.3 and when i press Install now, it enter the teemmod (the developer mode which i can wipe, install and everything) and does nothing. after reboot to system it ask me again if i want to install, and again go to this dev mode (which is needed for installing supersu to the system).
5. same as befor, apps like clean master doesn't get superuser privilages and cannot disable auto start apps even thew superSu do allow it. also, CPU manager in Battery Life app always get off after a while, or after a reboot.
i hope i could get help cuz im really lost in finding a way to fix all of this.
Please help?
Hello,
You need to fix your root situation.
- Open supersu, and do a complete uninstall.
- Download the latest super su flashable from chainfires website (Google it)
- flash it in recovery mode
- boot and install supersu free from play store
- report back here
Also, if you flashed a custom recovery you cannot OTA update the stock Android, that update requires stock recovery to install.

Basic terminology:
- Recovery / recovery mode: Instead of booting into the Android OS, you can boot into the "recovery OS" (located on a partition of the phone storage, just like the android OS is located on its own partition). The OS used for the recovery partition can be either stock or custom - popular custom choices are TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) or CWM (Clockwork Mod) - TWRP is the best choice for the M9 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3066720
- To flash something: To install something (always a zip-file, never apk files) while the phone is in recovery mode
TL;DR: Yes. :good:
Kind Regards

Okay I got 3 options - reinstall which is not what I need
And 2 more which are cleanup for switching userroot app
And a full cleanup for preparing uproot.
Which one should I pick.
Also I used last time Supersu 2.49, and now from the site is gave me I downloaded 2.46
I understand 2.49 is beta - so which one to pick?
2.49. Place it on the SD card of the phone before unroot. Choose complete unroot in the su app.

Not having SD - and install it from the internal storage of the phone can **** it up?
I press. Uninstall and it get stuck on it. I let it run for more then 40 min
And it didn't finish
Complete unroot just got the phone stuck?? If so, please walk me through the life of your phone from unboxing, eg what have you done with the device in terms of unlocking it, flashing stuff etc. Also, what carrier and soff status...

I mean got stuck on the please wait- I was able to switch app.
Also after trying few time to uninstall it - it worked.
I flashed the super 2.49 opened google store and unlocked the app.
The CPU manager in doctor battery still turn off after a while.
Also auto start app disable in clean master still says it don't have room access even
I have it again.
And I tried to install in lucky patcher the signal true - and after long "please wait"
And a auto robot it says it not patched.
What to do ?
Do you see a prompt to allow root access to the apps asking for it?
Can you post a screenshot of the Super su app with allowed and disallowed applications listed?
Are you on stock ROM with custom recovery?

I do get the approve window, also it shows the permission granted
In the super all allowed listed.
I didn't change any stock rom. I'm on the default of HTC m9 system.
And I'm still-off, and unlocked

Guide , help please?
Find your device/carrier RUU and start over, if you went through all the steps to get s off, you should have made a back up that you could start over with in recovery. If not search for for the RUU or original system file in the m9 forum For your SPECIFIC device.

How did you get a rooted ftf? I think that might be the problem. Unless you mean a prf... Best way to root KK is just flash stock ROM and use doomlord rootkit.

If you want to be on 4.4, use Flashtool and flash a stock 4.4 ftf, then root with Doomlord. If you want to be on LP, use Emma, it will download and flash firmware for you.
Flashtool - http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Emma - https://developer.sonymobile.com/open-devices/flash-tool/how-to-download-and-install-the-flash-tool/
KK ftf - https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...f-xperia-z1-compact-d5503-14-4-0-157-t3118047

When you flash with Flashtool, there is a box that says 'wipe'. Check the 'userdata' option.

Did you unlock bootloader? KK version 442 or 443? Add debugging enabled in settings? If all yes, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. You could try different options, there are a few for KK - pimped kernel, Great devs kernel, and you could root with easy rootkit.
BTW - to restore your phone without flashing whole ROM again, check boxes under 'exclude' options for everything but kernel.

Do you have root access when you turn on the phone? Did you make sure USB debugging is enable in settings, and also check 'allow USB debugging' pop-up when you connect to computer? If yes to all, just restart computer and/or phone, and reconnect and try again. XZDR is solid. If you have root, it will work. BTW - is bootloader unlocked or locked?

Bootloader unlocked: Yes
Rooting status: "here is nothing" i guess not
i restared everything still not work but i guess its because i dont get the root acces thats my main problem when should i have got it ?
Another Idea: When i install the EasyRootTool v12.4 it ends with "creating vm <loljavasucks>" is that what it supposed to write when its finished? When i keep that Easyroot window open and start the dual recovery installation, the easyroot tells me "done, checking if device is rooted... error: its not"
So i guess the problem is that i still not rooted my device but i thought that is what i am actually trying to do with easyroot..?

Ok, try this - download this zip https://mega.nz/#!lh9i0AYI!iH3Vw5keSNo66CHvq3c6V9HMCWAWJ5FIYcZZ35U254g It contains 2 files, one is a kernel and one is a recovery. Also download supersu 246 zip from here https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip?retrieve_file=1 and put it on your phone somewhere. Then connect in fastboot mode and flash the 2 IMG files:
'fastboot flash boot [name of kernel file].img'
'fastboot flash recovery [name of recovery file].img'
Then unplug and power on. When you see colored led, press volume key and you should get into recovery. When in recovery, flash supersu zip. Then power off, and connect in flash mode. Open Flashtool and flash the stock kernel from your ftf. Reboot and you should be rooted.
Thanks that worked! And now i flash the 4.4 stockrom and after that a prerooted version?

You can flash whatever you want now. If you want stock 5.1, you can use Flashtool / Xperifirm to download ftf and flash, or use Emma. You will lose root, but you can get it back the same way you just did. If you want to root 5.1 that way, you can extract boot img from advanced kernel and download latest twrp img, and just fastboot those, and no need to reflash stock kernel afterwards.
Advanced kernel - https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...rnel-advanced-14-5-0-242-kernel-v1-0-t3096060
Twrp 3 for Z1c - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862711713
Alternately, you could flash a prf, or any custom ROM you want
