Trying like hell to root this thing... - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So far ive tried superoneclick... froze on step 7
tried manually installing superuser... couldnt verify.
tried installing a root zip... couldnt verify.
the only thing that claims to have worked is clockworkmod... except that it will NOT allow me access to any of the actual rooted functions.
i was able to download superuser (which you cannot download from google play unless rooted- that worked.)
trying to keep the OS on it now while being able to delete bloatware, for a friend.
is it purely impossible to root a stock rom? why can i install programs that requre root but i cannot use them for their intended purpose (rom manager says it cant find superuser in either of 2 locations).
what the heck am i missing?? ive been googling and trying methods for hours to no avail. cant boot into cwm recovery at all, by rom manager or from powered off (it goes into stock recovery.).
what else can i do?

Did you watch the video in the CWM thread?
Tell me your steps EXACTLY and we'll figure it out.

Finally got it to work. i guess the magic step is not letting odin auto reboot. I was afraid not to let it because its not even mine. But, i followed the video in that thread exactly and that let my root zip install correctly.
phew!

Odin Says "Pass", But phone is not rooted.

Hey guys I followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2235366
I used a file called "CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar"
Everything goes well and I get a green pass from oden3, the phone reboots. But superSU is not installed and when I check "Root checker" there is no root....
I have 4.1.2
Thoughts?
Just download superuser and simply place it on your phones SD card it's really easy

Your phone is not finishing the process it seems. After Odin says pass do you get a big red Android on the screen? If not flash the cf auto root file but uncheck auto reboot in Odin first. Then when it finishes, pull the cable and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and manually boot to recovery by holding volume up+home+power and it should finish installing root.
I don't know what the post above me is taking about. Installing superuser isn't going to magically give you root. js

It wouldnt brick the phone but if you are seeing the red android then i was mistaken about what your issue is so disregard. Is your phone new? I bet the issue is related to one others are having where recovery cant mount partitions. To confirm that try this. Download this and place on pc http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/AUTOBOOT_RECOVERY/SPH-L710_TWRP_AUTOBOOT.exe
Its a odin one click that will autoboot you to twrp recovery just open it and click start with your phone connected in download mode.
Download this and place on your sd card. (preferably external)

If you can successfully flash that zip, it will root the phone.

It's basically the same thing. Cf auto root will install a special recovery made by chainfire and a cache.img with a root zip. It's supposed to flash that zip then restore stock recovery. I've never seen cf auto root fail to do the job so im not sure what went wrong.
But the way you did it was you installed your own custom recovery and manually flashed a root zip created by me instead. Only thing different here is that you still have that custom recovery instead of stock recovery now.

The custom recovery is the same with the exception that it gives you additional privileges over stock recovery. Like installing custom roms, so if you're planning on a custom rom soon then you may as well just stick with the custom one. I do however recommend you download goo manager from the playstore and updating your recovery to the newest with it before trying to flash anything. The recovery I gave you may be a little outdated. And if for any reason you want stock recovery back I'll make a odin tar of it and place it in this post

Personally I think the chances of your efs going bad are slim and a backup is more for paranoid people. With that said it never hurts to back it up. I just wouldn't restore it unless you have to.

Now my problem is when I try to start my phone in recovery mode the galaxy note logo flickers up and down the screen and the phone completely goes dead and i have to take out the battery to get it to start again. I have followed both sets of instructions to a T for clock work mod recovery and it hasn't worked.
And on the clock work mod recovery instructions, now when I click to download it it says failed download error...

Maybe this doesn't apply to you, or maybe it's too late, but some flavors of Samsung Android 4.x have a file to restore stock recovery at boot.
With the phone rooted and a root capable file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer look in the /etc directory. If there is a file in there called install-recovery.sh rename it and then try re installing cwm or twrp.

Is that the latest for the galaxy note 2? I have att and its the SGH I317
I didnt even plan to f with my phone but the other day my phone glitched and erased 300 pictures and videos from my newborn daughter that I just had and I was so upset and trying to find a way to recover them, someone told me to root my phone and try disk digger... so far I have had no luck at all with recovering anything... totally sucks and I am soooo upset!

[Q] Problems with ROM flashings (i9195)

Hello everybody,
I have a quite stressful situation with my s4 mini right now and I need your expertise.
It goes like this:
I was perfectly happy with my stock rom but for some reason I got this crazy idea of rooting and installing a custom rom.
So I followed the steps on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
After CWM was installed and before the phone was rooted, I made a complete backup via CWM (Backup1) and then installed the rootkit (as mentioned on the above post). After successfully rooting it I made another backup (Backup2), you know, just in case
Then I followed the instructions on the CyanogenMod wiki (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_serranoltexx#Installing_CyanogenMod_from_recovery) and installed it on my phone. It worked perfectly and I had CyanogenMod installed. But after playing around with it a bit, I realized that I didn't like it that much for various reasons. So I decided to go back to my original ROM. So I restarted in recovery mode and restored Backup2. Well this is where the problems start
The phone would start but once it boot up everything kept crushing. I kept getting messages every 10 seconds that gapps is not responding and nova launcher is not responding and the play store is not responding, etc. And in general you couldn't use it. So I tried once again restarting in recovery mode and restored Backup1. But again the same thing. Everything kept crushing.
What I want now is to have my original stock rom rooted. Problem is, I don't know where to find it. All I found was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375527&highlight=9195 but the download links don't work. Plus I don't know what my firmware's code is (eg I9195XXUAMF5)
Can anyone help?
PS. I live in Denmark and I bought here. Also the phone is the i9195 model with 8gb.

Thanks! That helped a lot.
So now I downloaded and successfully flashed what Sammobile.com suggests is my stock firmware.
I followed again the procedure to root my phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980) but although superSU is installed, I don't think I have root access.
What happens is that first of all superSU says that it needs to update the binary but it when I click "continue" it fails to install. Then I get a security warning that superSU is trying to access protected files and that it was blocked. SuperSU asked me if I want to disable KNOX. I said yes so I don't get those messages anymore. But still superSU can't update.
The other thing is that the apps don't actually have root privilages. For example, when I try to enable root on ES File Explorer, I get the prompt to grant root access, and I select grant. But I still can't open specific folders in the file system. For example the /data folder is shown completely empty.
Also other apps don't behave like rooted.
Any thoughts??

[Q] HELP root fail

I cannot gain root access for some strange reason. No, not a noob here, very familiar with rooting. Problem is... the Superuser won't flash. I got recovery installed... tried both CWM & TWRP. Either way when I try flashing SU app it doesn't work. I reboot phone and no app installed. In TWRP it actually has a little red word that says "Failed" after I try flashing SU.
Everywhere I look on the internet about rooting all say to flash an SU. So WTF? Why can't I do that?
Any other way to get root access? And then perhaps manually install SU from play store? Other ideas?
Need this damn phone rooted... driving me crazy.

Thanks for chiming in man. Actually definitely tried that several times. Anyways thought I would jump back on and post an update and see if it catches anyone's eye. Here's a summary: I'm still rootless; Everything I install in Odin works correctly; Anything I try to install via recovery (i.e. zips in CWM/TWRP) fails in one way or another.
To put it simply, the only way I can foresee my phone being successfully rooted is if I can do it via Odin. I have searched quite a bit online and have found no way to root the phone with Odin. Every method involves using a recovery. If someone could do me a favor and create a pre-rooted tar I could probably succeed. I will note in closing I was able to successfully update to UVMC6.... using Odin of course.... and it makes this phone more bareable, but not being rooted is still just killing me. First phone I've owned in 4 years I haven't been able to root.........
Anyone?
One more thing......
The more I think about this problem, seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with this device I'm trying to root. No idea what the problem is, but has to be major for both recoveries to install correctly but be unable to flash anything successfully.... too strange to be a minor problem or user error I surmise. That leads me to my next question:
Is this whole thread better suited elsewhere? Is there a sort of technical help forum area where I could get more help with diagnosing the problem? Hell, I even thought about posting a reply in the thread of a popular rom explaining how I'm unable to install it to see if anyone could help me out. I could care less at this point if I'm running stock or custom rom just need the damn phone rooted.
What do folks think about my question above? Does this thread make more sense somewhere else?
Thanks & Cheers,

CWM RECOVERY doesn't work for me on Note 3 with Lollipop

I've used Odin 3.07 to flash n900t-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4(1025) but it didn't pass. I'm tired now and I want to go to bed but it bugs me I don't have root.
On 4.2 I think it was easy but on 5.0 it won't work for me, now. I've scoured pages and pages, so for now I am kindly asking for some directions.
Try flashing the latest TWRP and then flash supersu from TWRP to get root.

Thanks, did it, it flashed it but now it gives me "Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing". I pulled the battery right after the pass message, no change.
Read in thread about "Reactivation Lock" but I don't have that option in the stock Lollipop 5.0.
Any ideas?
So your phone is not booting? Boot into download mode and tell us what it says.
Oh no, the phone works fine. I can boot into stock Lollipop but it won't boot into recovery (Vol Up). It boots into Odin Vol Down.
All I want is to install su. First I tried to flash CWM recovery with Odin, didn't pass. Then I tried TWRP (their website is down), it passed but got "Recovery is not Seandroid Enforcing" error. So now I'm lost. I think all have to flash a modified ROM but I'm confused about their specs (what is Deoxified)
Wait wait, Oding IS the recovery, no? I'm totally confused now.
Try this: open Odin and uncheck everything except f.reset time, connect the phone, flash TWRP, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, use button combination to boot into recovery.
Thanks for the help. I've tried that sequence before. It didn't work. I'll try it again.
But I've managed to install su using Chainfire's Auto Root for Kitkat (but I have Lollipop). Now I have an older recovery. Will that cause any troubles?
What I've learned from my "ordeal" is make sure you have the right versions. In my case particularly the phone model, N900T, and then the software versions, N900TUVUFOB6, where B6 is the Lollipop (right?).
No no no!
I've rebooted into old recovery now my user interface in Lollipop doesn't work. I guess the recovery deleted some cache (noticed some messages at the bottom)
I guess I'll burn the Lollipop + CF Autoroot for the N-th time and never boot into recovery.

Hi there,
I have one question. I have rooted my phone with cf-autoroot method same as you and like you I can't installed custom recovery, weather it be TWARP or CWM. Buy my question isn't this.
I was just randomly checking my app manager for all my apps and found getroot version 1.0 was installed.
Can you confirm me that u have the same thing.
Because it has access to my camera SD card and sms.
Let me know.

Make sure you have patched sd access and set correct path for location.
SD patch
Or use this this version of twrp and open in Odin just as you would cf autoroot.

the enforcing thing is because you have a custom recovery only, it just tells the user that it isn't factory
