IMEI Blacklisted....Help! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I bought a used SGH-T989 off of Craigslist. It worked great for a month. I had it rooted with the Blackliquid ROM. Yesterday it quit working because someone reported it lost and T-Mobile blacklisted my IMEI number. Is there anyway around this blacklist?
Walmart has new S2's on prepaid for $249. Should I just buy a new one or would I be better off with a Nexus 4 for $299? I like the S2 because of the removable battery and SD card. I am concerned about the 8gb storage on the cheaper Nexus 4. If I can't fix the IMEI what cheaper phone should I buy?

There are workarounds for the imei not sure if it'll work or not but I do know u can write a new one, with that said, the nexus is a good device, quick updates, pure vanilla android, but very little storage, no stock ROM image, no rem. battery, the s2 on the other hand is a great device also, lots of development, slow updates but with the devs we have u won't wait, I have 4.3 running less than a month after the first nexus got it lol, 1gb ram hurts sometimes but I would stick with the herc if it was me but hey my opinion is biased lol

If there is a workaround for the IMEI can someone point me to directions on how to do it?

I'd try to get your money back since the phone is more than likely stolen. And if someone lost it or it was stolen, they waited over a month to contact T-Mobile??
And it was lost?....its still stolen cause someone found it, kept it and wiped it.....instead of tracking down the owner.
So....try to get your money back. Or do the right thing and return it to its owner....if you called T-Mobile to find out it was reported lost I'm very surprised they didn't ask you to return it....they obviously know who's it is. Or turn in the crook on Craigslist.
This all smells fishy to me. I'd say good luck.....but I actually hope it remains a tiny wifi only tab and never works fully.

When I got my SGH-T989, it worked fine with my AT&T SIM. When I popped in my T-Mobile SIM, the network wouldn't activate.
As part of troubleshooting steps, I checked the IMEI. T-Mobile's site said the phone was reported stolen.
Contact the seller, explain that the phone is stolen, and that you want it returned, or you will take the necessary steps to return the phone yourself (such as contacting the authorities).
This was someone's phone. They bought it. It should be returned to them. Don't keep it.
Do not look for ways around the blacklisted IMEI. It doesn't matter if you gave someone money, it's not your phone.

I contacted T-Mobile and they said they didn't know who the original owner was. I also contacted the person I bought it from on Craigslist and he said he bought from someone off Craigslist and used it for 9 months without any problems. I guess I am stuck with this thing as a mini tablet now or I could unlock it and see if I could sell it to someone who wants it for AT&T.
If you had to start over would you buy a new S2 at Walmart for $249 or get a Nexus 4. I am leaning towards the S2 because I already have a case and extra batteries for it.

Just got my gsm gn. Have a few questions. Please help.

Okay so I just got my gn from amazon and I was wondering if there is any way to get insurance for this device. I'm coming from a tmo gs2 and I accidentally dropped it less than 2 weeks of owning it n it got a few dents around the edges. With that in mind I can't stop thinking about a bunch of "what if's" that might happen. Lol I love everything about this phone but I don't want to end up damaging this phone too cuz we all know **** happens.lol I'm already going to buy a case. But screens can still get cracked if it lands a certain way. Not only that. What if the phone malfunctions .would I be able to atleast send for repairs even if I can't get insurance? hopefully I didn't make a bad decision. Or would it be better if i just got the verizon one instead. At first i would've gotten the verizon one but cancelling my contract with tmo, paying the deposit fee and then buying the phone was turning out to be more expensive than just buying the gsm phone. But at the end of the day if I do have issues with this one I have now. That would be money down the drain instead of being able to get it replaced if I were with Verizon...right? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Your options are go without any insurance, get phone insurance or do what I did, put it on my home insurance
Damn I just realized I posted in the wrong section. Smh
I forgot to mention. I live in the US and I have t mobile. From the little help i have gotten from searches online about the insurance. I'm getting the vibe that since the phone is not released out here I have no way to get insurance? Which leads me to the other question I had, if there's a way to send for repairs if the phone breaks.

I am also with TMobile and because you didn't get the phone from them the insurance they offer will not apply. Not sure about the homeowners insurance, worth a phone call to your agent but usually the deductibles on H/O is $500+ so that's kind of a wash.
I purchased my phone from Expansys and according to them if there is a problem (warranty) they will support what the manufacturer offers.
Good luck and be careful.

Hey. Thanks a lot for the info. I went ahead n checked thru ur threads and found it. I contacted ensquared through a message asking if they covered the galaxy nexus GSM model and they called me back in less than 10 minutes and the person over the phone told me they do insure it and it doesn't matter what carrier I have or if the phone is unlocked. I asked twice to make sure cuz it sounded to good to be true n he confirmed that they do cover the phone. I feel so much better now. Thanks again

You should be able to get it covered through squaretrade. It'll cost you probably around $100 or so but I've heard good things about their service.
squaretrade will NOT cover this phone. It says so in the fine print on their website and a user here found out the hard way.
To the OP - glad I could help!

Cheapest way to upgrade before being eligible for upgrade?

Hi, just wondering if there are any loopholes that have worked for anyone in the past.
I'm really interested in either the Nexus 4 or Note 2. I love the S2 but I dont have an upgrade until Jan 2014 and these new phones are just so intriguing. I definitely don't want to pay a non contract price for these phones, but was hoping to sell my S2 and use it to buy a new phone at hopefully a good price.
Any advice?
not sure of any loop holes. most companys make sure there are none.
i say sell the s2 and get the n4. with the price being so low its worth it.
I looked up on the sprint buyback program and they'll give you $85 for the e4gt.
Well I have three phones mine wife and daughter wife never likes upgrading so I get her upgrades with mine not cheap but it works

That's at the moment. Look at the Gnex. It was released GSM first then Verizon got it, and then Sprint. I don't think Google is that dumb to cut Verizon from getting the Nexus and Sprint has gotten the other Nexus devices aside from the Nexus One.

I get the distinct impression that future nexuses (nexii?) will be gsm only given the widespread dissatisfaction with the update process on CDMA carriers

When I got my gs2 back in April I wasn't up for my upgrade till mid may. Anyway I brought it to a 3rd party sprint store and told me we could pretend it had water dmg and in that case sprint cuts you a few weeks slack and forks over the upgrade as its cheaper for them then asurian claims sending a new phone....at least that's what my rep said to me... he's a nice guy

I love the hardware of my epic touch but I know we can do better in regards of software. Jb leak is proof of that and what is likely to come. However I am getting tired of running gb. Having a nexus 7 tablet doesn't help my case when i get constant updates as soon as good drops new source. I am hoping I can hold out for the jb update or even a newer leak. But if not I would love to find a way to get a sg3 for cheap. And I don't really want to add another line.

I used to always buy my phones out of contract, I would ebay my phone, get paid apply that $ towards my new phone and ship the old one out. I would usually ship the next day so I wasn't holding up my buyer.
These days I just buy from Craigslist. Picked this phone up for 240 around mid summer, I think.

I agree with this, I bought my sgs2 in June for $220 off contract (used). It came in great shape and working perfectly. I'm thinking I'll keep buying phones this way - just wait for them to be ~9 months old and you can get them for the upgrade price. This way if a new phone drops that I just have to have I'm always ready with the upgrade. Also if I somehow kill my current phone I don't have to worry about carrying insurance, just use my upgrade on whatever's out.
The only thing better is direct from Google pricing, which I may switch to but I will loose some coverage in my state by leaving CDMA so I haven't decided on that yet.

Hah, I can assure you, after 20 phone calls, they don't give a **** about their customers.
I've had my account open with sprint since 1991.

[Q] Quick Question please advise

Hey fellow XDA users I've got a question regarding pre-ordering on ATT.
I've been unable to receive a clear answer from customer support or any other sites.
Basically does pre-ordering a device give you an upgrade?
I believe so because when my Galaxy S2 I-777 was stolen my dad used his upgrade to
get me a Galaxy S3. He had his upgrade left over since he pre-ordered the Galaxy Note1.
Now my GS3 screen is cracked, but still works so i plan to sell it(got the unlock code) and
pre-order the S4 when it becomes available, so does pre-ordering in-fact give you an early upgrade or was that just luck?
Thanks
Only AT&T will know the specifics. If you are having trouble with the CSRs on the phone, try going to a store, they will be more willing to answer questions like that.

Most of the time the account does use the upgrade until the device comes in and the account is changed. This could also be that he paid full retail for it.
and don't forget that S4 for U.S variants won't come out till June.

What should I do with my 747

I originally ordered my GS3 from amazon and it said it was an unlocked i9300. I opened the box and I had received a i747, at least it was unlocked though. I use t-mobile's 30$ a month plan. That was 6 months ago. I flashed my first ROM and my IMEI was reset to 0 and about a month in I dropped my phone shattering the screen. Ever since the IMEI blanked the phone has had data issues.
This is where I come to a dilemma. I like the GS3, but I feel like this one is beyond fixing for me.
Should I
A) Sell the old GS3 on eBay and risk the buyer having data issues. I don't know how much a broken screen GS3 would sell for.(I also burned the digitizer trying to replace the glass)
B) sell the phone to one of those cheap sites online that give you like 100 dollars for it.
C) save up another 600 bucks to buy a new GS3 from T-Mobile.
D) wait for the GS4 and buy one under contract from AT&T
E) Send it to Samsung hoping they just send me a new phone instead of fixing the screen.

I see. Well it certainly sounds like a good idea to get a new phone then. If you do plan on switching over to att and need a phone right away, you can ask them to assist you in the early termination fee. I think they covered $100. That way, you can get the subsidized phone of your choice.

I can't tell you what you should do, however I can tell you what you should've done.
You should've reported that seller on amazon, made a claim on paypal or with your bank/credit card institution for fraud, and got your money back and possibly been able to keep the phone.
I've been in a situation like that, once ordered a iPod touch 4g 64GB off ebay, received a 16GB 3G touch. Made a claim on paypal, gave him some nasty feedback, and Paypal eventually returned my money and I then sold the 3g on ebay for an additional 200 bucks. Winnar.

No contract obligations here. I dropped 600 dollars for this phone. I think I'll wait for the S4 next month and go to AT&T. Their prices for a 3GB plan is cheaper than T-Mobile now. T-Mobile needs to be careful with this phone lease idea as it currently pushes them over the price of AT&T if text isn't important. I use Google voice so texting isn't important to me.

I know I should have reported him for falsely posting it as an international version, but I'd waiting 2 weeks for the phone after saving 3 months to buy it and didn't deal with it. Also amazon doesn't take PayPal .

[Q] Buying Used GS3, What to look out for?

So I'm thinking of buying a Used GS3 or Nexus 4. Since the GS3 has expandable memory that's what I'm leaning towards.
Anyway, what kind of things should I ask/look for when getting a used GS3 other than scratches and cracks?
The best and safest thing you can do is meet the seller at a Tmobile retail store. Have an employee check the status of the phone. They can even make a note that the phone has been sold and the original owner cannot report it stolen or lost.

I bought and returned 3 Nexus 7s early on because of problems like the screen lift so it's why I ask.
I also saw that some Nexus 4s had some back glass lift problems and the HTC One has some separation/cracking issues.
I don't think I've read anything about the Samsung phones though other than the plasticky feel.
