[Guide] Disable OTA UPDATES - LG Optimus G Pro

Didn't know of a better place to put this...
Are you regretting updating to the OTA because now your battery life sucks super bad even after all the different ways you tried to fix it and don't think the OTA is worth it and so you flashed back to stock and have the ota sitting in notification and you keep hitting cancel when it asks you to install it?! Dang..... out..... of..... breath.....
I was...
You need root of course...and I'm not responsible if your phone mucks up...BACKUP!
Navigate to system/apps and find LGDMSCLIENT.apk and rename extension to bak. Do the same for the .odex file.
Note: If you want to try new updates, simply change the extensions back to the original names.
Reboot
NO MORE OTA!!!!
Cheers...

How can you tell?
How can you tell if the Value Pack has been installed on a phone?
I just purchaced my G Pro, and there have not been any available updates when I check....
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: APQ8064/MDM9x15M
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
Build Number: JZO54K
Software Version: E98010K
Has the Value Pack (or any other update) been installed at the store?
---------- Post added at 09:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 AM ----------
Hmmm, It appears that the original rom is Software Version: E98010G and the Value Pack is Software Version: E98010K
Can anyone confirm this?

You have the value pack installed.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302660
If you want to go back to pre-value pack.

I am giving this a shot using ES File Explorer and get the message "Task is failed" when I try to change the file extensions.
Any clues as to what the problem is?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Never mind. It worked with Root Explorer.

Hi.
Isnt renaming the files essentially the same as freezing the app? why not just freeze the ota app with Titanium Backup?

That works if you have the Pro version. I don't, so this option works too.

Stock Odex Circle Percent Battery Mod

I keep seeing requests for a circle battery mod on stock odex roms so I thought I would share mine. I am running the newest version of Rogers stock rom (LH1), rooted. See screenshot below. Make sure you deactivate "Display Battery Percentage" under settings/display.
THIS MOD IS COMPATIBLE WITH LH1 FIRMWARE VERSION ONLY. PLEASE ENSURE YOU MAKE, OR HAVE, A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING / TRYING THIS.
Flash the zip file here using cwm or twrp: Stock Odex Battery Mod
NOTE: Use at your own risk. I take no responsibility for your phone.

Thanks for your feedback, I have already fixed the file name. If anyone has specific requests, I suggest the uot kitchen (Google it), you can cook your own custom mods. That was where I made this one. The only issue is to replace meta inf update file in the zip, which I would be happy to assist with.

For the file upload tab, you need to upload 3 files from your phone: systemui.apk (/system/app), and two files from your /system/framework: framework-res.apk & twframework-res.apk
The kitchen modified these files with your mods and packages them in a flashable zip file for you. When you try to flash them, you may get an error requiring a change in the updater script. Let me know if that happens and I will walk you through the fix.

Thats the updater script issue I mentioned. You need to replace the "update-binary" file located in meta-inf/com/google/android of your zip with the one in my zip. Should flash fine after that.
so it was not that it was an ATT phone that was the issue but the firmware: this mod is based on LH1 and would not be compatible with the earlier LE8 firmware even if it was a Bell or Rogers phone -- you can't take a mod from newer firmware and flash it on older firmware.

1) you need to remove the stock apk for gmail from either /system/app folder or /data/app folder depending on rom. Use root explorer to get to the file with gmail logo and delete.
2) reboot phone and place the above provided app (gmail2.apk) in the folder where you removed other version(stock gmail apk in step 1)
3) change permission and check all for read on left column and write on the top in the middle column. Uncheck everything else.

Don't mind this thread. It's old, just check OP's post date...

AOSP browser without root (yes you read that right) 4.3

I have a method to install the aosp browser without any root privileges at all and no modifications of the system partition. Just involves installing 2 or 3 apks (depending if you want bookmark syncing). This should work on any of the other nexus devices that came without stock browser.
Please don't repost this yet. I want to add in the other languages to browser.apk for the "find on page" button in the menu. I fixed English. The stock nexus roms don't have the string in framework-res for this one button.
Download zip (this is not a cwm package/just extract it or open the files from inside)
http://www.mediafire.com/?f98l0b3apkbb6s1
Steps:
1. Use es file manager to browse to system/app and install browserproviderproxy (it will say app not installed, don't worry it worked) OR install the included file
2. Reboot (it will not work without rebooting first)
3. Install Browser4.3_blackhand1001.apk
4. Install ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter_blackhand1001.apk (this will give you bookmark syncing)
Extras:
User agent selection in Advanced Preferences
Fullscreen Toggle in Labs
Please post if it works for you!!

Does this work on all devices as well as previous version of android say for example Sony Xperia S running 4.1.2 (comes with stock browser version 4.1.2-N7_zg)?

ok the sd card not showing up is not actually a bug i think it's something google did with kit kat and it will be like this on release you might need to be rooted to access the external sd card if i'm not mistaken.
