Agreed! The toolkit is very easy to use just download and go at it. I do not retain the knowledge to root the other way and it only took me 15min once I got started with the toolkit. I was worried that once I got halfway into it that it wouldn't give me enough instructions and id be lost halfway through. But just do some reading about the kit before you do it and you should be all good to go.

You didn't look very hard considering the title is "no trip root"

I did look and didn't find anything. That's why I posted the question.
Thanks for the link though.

Not to nitpick, but to avoid future problems you might want to saunter on over to the Sprint forum if you do indeed have a Sprint device.

Is there any way to root galaxy s 3 for t mobile running 4.1.1 without a computer?

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
As of right now, the only way to get root is with the use of the computer as of yet.
Being that seems to work pretty well I doubt there will be development to a root method without a computer.
Hmm, thanks for your feedback

I put the developer kit on my phone and then you can do it from someone elses computer...
What about mobile Odin pro? Then use that to flash the recovery of your choice. The reboot to recovery and install the superuser script?

Doubt it. I think you still need pc
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Mobile odin requires root. So it can't be used to gain root.
Chainfire release a rooting method. I haven't tried it but have heard it works well. You still need Odin on a pc for any root procedure that I'm aware of.

Rooting is yes, only available via computer.

So have people tried this root? Did it trip the counter?
Seems like the apk has an un-root option as well. Very cool.
Are there any good reasons to root and keep the stock image on the Note 2? I'm on the fence...
It does not trip the counter. Also it has option to fix the exynos exploit which is cool.

With the exception of losing you FFC in the process
The problem with this is that it shows our devices have a widely know loop hole and hackers could do what they want to our phones.

Doesn't this method break the camera until you restore?

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

I am using it to root the phone. So no camera issues.
If you fix the exploit then it may break your camera.

I know they're 15 pages into it on the other link but I just did it on my at&t note 2 already rooted and doesn't break the camera

The toggle effects the camera. And I dont know how thats anu faster then pushing root through odin.

Does this wipe anything?
Nope, works great on ATT Note 2. Still have all my data , just rooted and protected against the exploit. Camera works fine. Quick and easy, need to be in debugging mode and allow 3rd party apps.

My mom took the update today :(

So Im on my way to my mom house because her note 2 is stuck in recovery. Apparently, said yes to the update. Anyone got an idea of what I will need to do to fix this.?

that might be the problem there... stock rom that still recieves updates BUUUUUTTTT you have TWRP installed which is not set up to install updates.... if there is a back up restore to that... then use the toolkit to re-install the stock recovery ... then run the update... then re-install the TWRP recovery
Such a pain never root your parents phone or anyone who dont know anything about rooting. Not a smartr idea on both side's. Was thinking about doing the same for my mom but this woman just had her first smartphone 3 years ago.

[HELP] Getting root without PC

Hey XDA,
I was wondering if there was a way to root the t999 without using a PC, because I don't have one at the moment. Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing you already searched and couldn't find it.

Wouldnt using Mobile ODIN allow you to flash the root .tar file from your device? Not certain as I never used Mobile ODIN.

I just think it's inconvenient for people who want to flash tars that are not rooted. I do think the app is absolutely amazing though.
Sent from my SGH-T999
MobileODIN wouldn't work if it wasn't Root. Functional, not stupid.
Back on topic, on other devices that I have had, you can flash a custom recovery via the stock recovery but naming the file 'update.zip' and placing it in the root of the ext_sd. Not sure about the T999 series, I haven't looked into or tried it.
What about cf autoroot by chain fire?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
CF auto root requires Odin on a pc.
I really do not think there.is a way to do this. Sorry man.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Suggestion: Find an internet cafe (if you can find one that allows downloading exes)
Pay for the time you think you might need.
Download Odin
Download the files you need
You know the rest!
Or you must have a friend who would be willing to give you a go.
It takes about 15 mins to do it if you know what you are doing.
I hope that helps, cheers!
Thanks guys. Mods can close this topic now.
