My HTC EVO 4G phone power button broke and now I cant turn screen on so I was looking for volume wake up mod and cant find , I need help finding it , Plus I cant flash via recovery because the power button dont work so how can I install (volume wake up mod) without it ??
PS : I am on expired warranty
Both smelkus & TWRP recoveries allow use of the touch screen and/or capacitive buttons, so that isn't an issue. The mod you're looking for really depends on what ROM you're running.

You can flash recovery via fastboot or via PC36IMG.zip. These methods are well documented; a search should yield the information you need.
I don't know what ROMs have volume wake, but I'd think a search would help there as well.
Most of the new jb roms have volume wake. Also my cyanmobile gb rom has it. Fyi of your phone happens to power off here is a trick to power it up. Connect charger remove battery and reinsert battery. You might have to do it a couple of times but it will boot your phone. Hope this helps you out.

You can use the touch buttons beneath the screen in newer recovery versions instead of power- and volume buttons.

Just flash the newest recovery from rom manager (I assume you're rooted etc and able to do this) then boot into recovery and use Home and Menu for up and down, Back for getting back and the Search button to select.
Previously I was on 2.2 and rooted using unrevoked. I then flashed the stock 2.3 pre rooted rom which I found here.
Everything works fine but I wish to remove some of the rubbish which is preinstalled and after reading lots of guides it says I must boot into recovery but I no longer have recovery and dont know how to install it.
Is there an easier way to remove stock apps? I tried deleting with root explorer but it comes back after restart.
you cant delete stock apps without s-off as they are replaced.
You either need to boot into recovery or reflash a modified version of the rom.
Now what do you mean you have no recovery?
Turn off your device.
Hold vol down+power, and highlight recovery using the volume keys and power to select. What do you see?
If you no longer have clockworkmod, You will have to s-off then fastboot flash it, although I cannot see how you got in this situation.
When I gold volume down and power button nothing happens phone doesn't even turn on. And what is a-off? Is it possible on 2.3?
It's flashing a custom hboot which ignores the security flag in radio nvram (s-on).
What if you hold vol down, then hold power for 3 seconds then release only power?

Still doesn't do nothing. Sometimes it lists boots into the actual ROM and that's it.
Faulty hardware?
What about the same method using Back instead of vol down?
It cant be faulty hardware because when I was on 2.2 it worked. It only stopped working after I flashed the pre rooted 2.3. I will try the back button and will see how it goes.

Well I don't know how software could affect hardware from working. Especially hardware used to power on a device, unless you're not doing it right...

yes, but he needs to be booted into recovery to do this. I have a guide in my signature.
Could just freeze them in titanium too.

my bad didnt read first post proper!
Sorry couldn't post. Basically I tried to hold volume down and power button but nothing still happens. I held it for 30 seconds but it would even turn on unless I let go off power button.
Don't know what's happened to your device. Personally I'd RUU it and start again but someone may have a better idea

Is it possible that you are not rooted anymore as you went to a pre-rooted 2.3? And cannot get to recovery because of a stock rom?

he cant get to hboot or fastboot either. All these things exist in stock form. Something is really wrong here
I've tried the same thing, an had to pull the battery shortly, afterwoods I could use the volume down / power option. This happen several times, until I flashed another ROM. ???

I tried rooting my HTC Wildfire using the Revolutionary method. I was able to successfully S-OFF, root and install a custom ROM. Realizing I haven't installed gapps, I thought of flashing gapps alone and later changed my mind that I can try flashing CM 10 and then gapps. But strangely, the CWM recovery does not work for me now. Every time I enter into recovery and select an item in the list by pressing the POWER button, I get a screen with CWM icon and then nothing. Pressing the POWER button again returns to the menu, but no action done. Now my device is S-OFF but without root access. Help me out of this please.
P.S: I have tried running fastboot executable from the PC and also by putting files as PC49IMG.ZIP in the memory card. Nothing has got me the CWM recovery working nor the root access.

Simple solution for the CWM Recovery menu... You use your trackball to scroll and press it to select the option. The power button always hides the menu. you use trackball.
S-OFF but not Rooted, Recovery not working

Hi GlennBrownie,
CWM recovery works now, thanks to you. But am facing another issue. As stated earlier, my phone is not rooted. I tried to flash Mini Cyanogenmod 9 and after successfully installing from SD card, I rebooted the phone. All I got was the Cyanogen image and nothing more. I had to restore my previous ROM. Please help me out of this so I can enjoy ICS on my phone.
Your phone is rooted. MiniCM 9 V2.0 hangs at boot animation. Try V1.0 it works fine (Benni has just released a version of CM10. It is in the General section. I am going to try it this weekend. It sounds very good to me)

shutdown it down - turn off the phone wait few secs before going to next step
hold volume up button while holding power button also
when lg logo appear release/unpress power button just for a sec or two and then press and hold it back

hi
I dont understand
I try alot off time but dont secsuss
Assuming that the phone's power is off:
Hold down volume up button, then push the power button and hold it down. Count to 4 and stop holding the power button, but keep holding the volume up button. You should see the lg logo and then your recovery 5 ~ 7 seconds afterwards. Btw, which recovery are you using?
Custom recovery?
Is there a way to install a custom recovery on this phone? I read conflicting reports. I'm on 4.4.2 rooted and would to make a back up of my system, add zips, etc.

Have you try freegee in the play store? It installs the older version of cwm or twrp, but it's a start. Once you install the custom recovery, you can try flashing the newer version such as Philz cwm or newer version of twrp.
thanks
i do all this but no chances to enter into recovery
can help me with a video for that method
check if u have recovery mode installed
get FreeGee
and boot to it

I tried that before and got error messages. Some people say it worked and some say they had to wipe everything and it still did not work. Maybe the newer version works as I tried this 2 months ago.
Are you rooted?

first just make sure that your device is rooted, download Optimus G Pro Custom recovery (try to search on google, i found many links last time i download it), install that .apk on your device and then run it, choose flash recovery, and then choose reboot recovery. you will have recovery now. hope this helps.
Heyy! I wanna install twrp and then install cm12 nightly but I've read on other threads that flashing twrp directly will brick my phone and I'll have to install cwm first then cwm touch then twrp from there but on another thread it tells me to directly install twrp from freegee on stock JB.
Can anyone explain this to me? It's really confusing and I wanna know if flashing twrp will brick my phone. Im on stock kk but ill go back to JB and try it. Someone tell me if thats a good idea?

While you're on stock ROMs, just use Philz Touch. But if you ever go to like CyanogenMod or any other non-stock ROM. Flash that ROM with Philz Touch, then flash official TWRP. After, you can stay on TWRP once running a custom ROM.
