Only 22 GB available? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I bought a nexus 7 32 GB and was shocked to realize it only had about 22 GB available. Is this right?

After you've installed all of your apps, then that sounds right. I think I've got about 20 available after installing apps and games. I believe it's around 26 that's available out of the box, don't remember exactly exactly. If you've only got 22 available straight outta the box, then there's an issue there!

Im confused as to what your issue is when you have 4.7 gigs of apps, so clearly thats why you have 22 left.

I'm sorry I'm a noob lol you are correct but I still can't believe its only 26 out of the box. Thanks for the quick feed back

Computer 101.
No hard drive gives advertised space. Plus Os install takes up some.

Devices with internal memory will always have lower usable space for the fact that the system and apps also will use the same memory.

32 GB Verizon Galaxy Nexus?

I picked up my galaxy nexus the other day. I looked at my internal storage, and noticed that I had 30 GB of memory left. I thought that the 32 GB LTE version was discontinued. Anyone else recently get a GNEX and get a 32 GB LTE version recently?

2GB is used for Android OS / partition / etc...
It's like when you buy a hard drive / flash drive.... it retails as 8GB/16GB/32GB/64GB... but it's not the full size.
your phone is proper.
No.
...of the people, by the people, for the people...
I think the OP is saying that he expected to get a 16GB unit and wound up with a 32GB one instead
I bought mine yesterday and have 32gb of storage.

I went into my Verizon store to upgrade to one of these today and they said they no longer carry the phone, at all. I guess it was a problematic phone? It makes me angry since now the only option I have left is the Razr... meh.

They still carry it. Your local store may not, but they do in general still carry it.
You can order it online as well.

Yea, I just checked to make sure it was still online. Strange my local stores aren't carrying it anymore. Too many problems, they said.

Are they VZW Corporate stores, or 3rd party retailers?
If its a REAL Verizon store, they're basically forced to carry it.

Last i checked (vz site and samsung), there is no 16gb vzw gnex. There were rumors about a white 16 back in march/april around when the droid 3 was released, but only 32 on vz.

Nexus 7 16gb is OOS...

Guess Google didn't expect people to pony up the extra $50 for the already limited storage. But that is a good thing. Hopefully we will see more 32gb nexus devices soon.

16gb is so not enough.
I don't know how GSM GN users manage it.

I guess I use my devices for more media. I can't afford to keep more than 1 nandroid at any given time on my Nexus 7.
That is with no movies or music stored locally.

I have my slew of apps, a few big (250mb or so) ones, and several hundred mb of pics/wallpapers. Other than that I'm using Google Music / Pandora / TuneIn Radio for my music and I'm not one for movies.
I've still got 10.2GB available on the device.
I came from a HTC Desire so I am used to having very little storage (although I loved that people were able to figure out how to make EXT4 partitions make the phone believe it had more internal storage)... I really don't mind the 16GB, it is more than I will ever need. I only keep apps and data for them on the phone so it's not that bad... I have other devices for music/video.
And now back to your regular GALAXY NEXUS programming........
I won't buy a Google tablet till it comes in 64g ;/ I use 56 GB (music not included thats 42 GB) on my iPad 3... I hope googles 10 inch tablet would let me make the jump to pure android across my devices

Please talk about the Nexus 7 over in that forum.
I would move this thread over there, but there are already discussions about the pros/cons of 8GB vs 16GB and whether it's enough

[Q] I only have 12GB of space

Not sure whether I have done this myself or what, but when I received my phone after my insurance claim (they gave me a brand new one) I didn't check for the space because I thought it would have 32GB on it anyways, but when I installed my custom ROM which was Android Rev. HD I found out I have around 12GB of space and after installing other ROMs it has stayed this way.
Any help?
Hmm not sure....but there are hoxes with 16 gig and hoxes with 32 gig onboard. I hope they did not replace yours for a 16 gig one !
You need to go back to the store and ask for 32 GB version, they obviously gave you 16 GB model.
There was also a old bug going around that depleted the SD size over time. An update fixed it so try updating to the latest Firmware.

ram expander

Do you guys experience any difference to using ram expander?
I've got total of 10gb ram running and I notice a smoother run.
Any input would be appreciated to see if its only my brain telling me its making a difference :cyclops:

Ram expander is an app.
Search for it on play store. Though you will need a rooted device
10 GB ram??
Yeah I don't get it tbh. We have 2.71GB of ram and it never reaches the limit so why would you think 10GB is needed. But in all honesty I don't think its going to make much of a difference.

I didn't install it on any of my recent devices, I think there's no need, but I did install on a three year old mid range phone that I was always having trouble with. It really does seem to work on that old device.
