dbrand 2013 Nexus 7 Skins - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

Hey XDA!!!!!
We were so happy to see that there's a 2013 N7 section on the Forums. Hopefully a few of your will have heard of our skins, but for anyone who's not familiar, feel free to check out the 400k view, 380 page thread about our Nexus 4 skins over in the N4 section of XDA.
We just completed and launched our offering for the Nexus 7 as of today. We won't bore you with too many details, but here are the key points:
Made in Canada using only authentic 3M vinyl
Guaranteed to not leave any adhesive residue
Supremely precise fit (we measure each skin hundreds, if not 1000+ times before finalizing the dieline)
Genuine textures that reflect the light accordingly and have true depth
Fast, Worldwide shipping for $3, regardless of order quantity
You can mix'n'match front/back pieces at no extra charge using our interactive purchase interface
We love drawing stuff. Ask for a drawing during the Special Instructions section of checkout and we'll hook it up
You can order the skin without the "nexus" cutouts at no extra charge, just write "NO NEXUS" in the Special Instructions. Same applies if you want "JUST THE X CUTOUT"
Pre-orders began today. We'll be shipping them on the 8th so that delivery lines up with the release of our how-to-apply tutorial video. One of the biggest pitfalls of skins is that, regardless of how precise the fit is, it really comes down to how well the skin has been applied by the end-user. We remedy this by offering kickass, high production-value, concise tutorial videos. You can view an example here: http://dbrand.com/subhowto/htc-one.
Price is $8 for the front, $12 for the back. We're in the process of taking mind-blowing photos of the device in every skin style, but you can see some temporary photos by clicking the style of skin you want to preview below.

Okay... at the risk of sounding like a fanboy... that HTC One application video was probably the most informative and easy to follow video I have ever seen!

I like Red. Two questions:
1.) Which would you describe as more "grippy"... the red carbon, or the red true color?
2.) Do you have plans for a red titanium?
Thank you.

We'll also go ahead and answer some questions that we know are going to come up sooner or later:
Q: Do the corners peel up?
A: Absolutely not! We have designed the skin and tested it thoroughly and can guarantee that the corners will never peel or bunch up.
Q: Why doesn't it go EDGE-TO-EDGE??!?!!!! I WANT BETTER COVERAGE!!!
A: As do we, sir-yells-a-lot. The coverage we offer is limited to 5.12mm from the edge (yes.. exactly 5.12mm) for multiple reasons. First and foremost, the soft-touch rubbery material that the N7 is made of does not bond well with the 3M adhesive. This means that if we were to extend the skin even 1 extra millimeter, it would peel up over time. Not only that, but the rounded corner would end up being larger, meaning potential for the corner to peel up easily. The second reason is for the feel. What does that mean? It means that, if the skin were extended any further, the material would give you a sharp feeling on your fingers when holding the device. The coverage we offer makes the skin imperceptible to the touch.
Q: Well, if you're saying the rubbery backside doesn't bond well with the adhesive, doesn't that mean my skin is going to come off over time?
A: Not at all. The Nexus 4 is a similar situation. The material sticks to the device, but (when you're ready to remove it), it comes off so easily that you'll have wondered how it stayed stuck there at all! Because of our precision and thoroughly planned coverage, the adhesive bonds very nicely to the area it covers. Once you're ready to remove, it won't be a death-struggle between the skin and device. The skin will remove and (if the lettering is removed carefully), be quite re-usable.
We'll update this post when necessary with the most commonly asked questions.

Haha thanks buddy, we take our videos VERY seriously.
1. Because they are made of the exact same substance (100% PVC), one isn't really "grippier" than the other. We'd argue that the powder-coated texture of the True Color Red may give it a slight edge, but then again the weave on the Red Carbon Fiber is equally as grippy under the right circumstances. The great part about our skins is that it leaves enough of the edge (~5mm) exposed so that when you're holding the device, you have just as much grip as if the device were completely naked!
2. Unfortunately we do not. While we would love to offer a Red Titanium variant, we're committed to only offering the highest grade materials on the market. This means that unless 3M puts it in their line-up, we're not able to put it for sale. They don't currently offer a Red Titanium material, but if they ever do, we'll be the first company on it!

Thanks!
I plan on using a tempered glass screen protector once they become available. Do your products work on top of those?

Just ordered. Don't wanna hesitate because I know you guys will be slammed I once people start seeing this thread hahaha. Now the waiting game...

Indeed they do!
Also, because people are inevitably going to be purchasing screen protectors, we're going to share the exact size spec of the screen cutout. Many screen protector companies allow users to order a "custom-cut" size. Should you happen to order from one of these sites, order a screen protector that is exactly 95.3x151.9 millimeters. The template is 99.99% complete, but we'll likely make another few adjustments before shipping on Thursday. If we make any updates to that size, we'll let you guys know!

Anyway the front skin can be a one piece screen protector and skin?

Logistically, this would be impossible. Clear (screen protector) vinyl and opaque (textured, colored) vinyl are different types of materials. The closest possible solution would be a skin plus a precision-fitted screen protector. We are working on introducing screen protectors, but in order to manufacture transparent protectors, we’d need a 100% dust-free facility. Even a single speck of dust on a clear protector would render it defective. We’re considering opening up a separate warehouse specifically to make transparent protectors, but that’s still at least 6-8 months away. As we stated earlier, there are various companies who offer a "cut-to-size" screen protector option. Should you find and purchase from one of these vendors, make sure the size is exactly 95.3x151.9 millimeters. This size will fit flawlessly within the screen cutout on our skin.

man these look amazing!! my one and only question, does having the skin on the front make the screen size seem different? seems like in the pictures the screen appears smaller with it framed in the skin. probably wont be able to tell untill i see it in person as pictures probably dont do it full justice, but they look amazing none the less, and i will definatly be picking up a back skin!

TBH, this issue was present on the old N7, but because the bezel is so much thinner on the sides of the 2013 N7, it really doesn't make the screen look smaller. Looking forward to hearing your feedback (aka relentlessness praise) once you receive it!

Just writing in to support dbrand. Have titanium for N4 and love it!

Hard Cases: Anyone Have Luck?

So the clear plastic ones from ATT seem to be junk (plus they're clear).
The "carbon fiber" ones from Samsung were a letdown.
Anyone find anything decent yet? I must say this is one of the very few areas that the iPhone benefits from.
Anyone have experience with Pdair? They seem high ($28) but they might look promising. There are no pics of the Captivate Version of this yet but they come in black and silver aluminum, here's the iPhone version:

Honestly the PDair leather cases look alright but the metal cases look ridiculous to me and the clasp that keeps them shut looks pretty cheap. I say we need to petition for some Otterbox love! Otherwise I really haven't seen any hard cases out there.

They just released like the Droid Defender case like a year after release I would not hold my breath for them LOL
I'd like a leather case except that stupid flap would get in the way when I'm trying to use it.
And yea, I had the same thought about the metal case. I wonder if it FIRMLY snaps down or what... Was hoping someone would comment that has used them before.
i bought a case from ebay. its a pretty nice case and i luv it. since i cant post links so search "FUNKY STRIPES Phone Cover Hard Case Samsung Captivate" on ebay. you'll find it.

Hey please check out my post about what I have found out about the hard case situation for the Captivate!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758778
I got a case from ebay, just searched "snap on case captivate" I got the black one that says it is rubberized in the description. The thing snaps on very securely and is very difficult to take off, so I think the protection is good. Access to all the physical do-dads like the usb gate are easily reachable. My only gripe is the notification bar is harder to access with the case on, but if I use the tip of my finger I can get it and I've gotten used to it but it still deserves mention. I'll post pics if you want but it is nothing spectacular. Cheap too, like $8 with free shipping and come in different colors. Looks like the same design as the carbon fiber one just not as much of an eye sore. What was the letdown with the carbon fiber one for you?
Looks like there's also a "carbon fiber" case that's different than Samsung's on Ebay now too, for $8.
For $8 if it snaps together well and is clean looking: it's better for me.
There's really four complaints to Samsung's:
1) Doesn't fit together SUPER well, but this isn't bad enough for me to return it on this point alone
2) When I bought it I thought it was clean, but I got a case with a Galaxy S logo on the back. Again not enough for me to return it on this point alone
3) Some of the rubberized coating was coming off
4) It's not really carbon fiber as it originally stated...

Alright, I'll go a head and get one and do a review on it.
I have the AT&T hard rubberized Body Glove case - but it looks like Body Glove has posted a hard shell snap-on case. Looks interesting with a removable belt clip that doubles as a kickstand (at least in portrait mode). Anyone tried it yet?
http://www.bodyglovemobile.com/prod...205034&ManufacturerId=1204552&ModelId=3529492
No but for $30 they can suck it. LOL
So for 12 bucks I got this case and a car charger. It definitely adds bulk, and this is probalbly moreso than most.
I had a couple thoughts today, thought I'd share them and see what people think. Perhaps even get the attention of someone that has the skill to implement some of these ideas.
First thought:
LED's don't really need much power, and if one was only used for a flash, you could power it off a watch sized battery for some time. Have they ever made cases for phones that have an LED that could be used as a camera flash in them? This could be a nice mod to any hard case out there. I for one do not have the skill to make anything like that, but would be very willing to pay for something like that.
Second thought:
A case with a modified back to allow a slide out keyboard. I'm thinking something like the following
http://www.adapt-mobile.com/multimedia/product/view/adapt_adk_100_micro_keyboard
but integrated into a case. I realize you would have to charge both the phone and the keyboard, but it could be an interesting project for someone that knows enough to do this.
Just some thoughts. If anyone knows how to do any of this, let me know. I'm aware i just described most of our missing features from the Epic, but I think using a case to overcome our missing features could be a big seller.
Those are the two reasons I almost switched over to Sprint for the Epic 4G.

I mean if you truly want something like this then you should really get a different phone (like the Epic). I personally don't like it because A) Sprint sucks here, and B) slide out keyboards add bulk and weight and thickness and C) I don't care about a flash.

I like and still use Swype for one reason: easy one-finger messages.
It's not highly accurate when you are moving quickly.
And two-finger "pecking" messaging (a'la iPhone) is still faster than Swype is.

What is the Kickstand4u™?
It is a kickstand you can apply to any device period. It is a plastic piece with 4 adjustable settings (two for phones and two for tablets) for different viewing angles and different orientations. It is attached using an adhesive sticker.
What comes with the Kickstand4u™?
The kickstand with adhesive backing(duh), alcohol wipe, installation instructions, and a spare adhesive backing.
What finishes come with the Kickstand4u™?
Clear, semi-clear, glossy black, and matte black.
Does it work with tablets?
Yes. 7" tablets and 10"+ including iPads (BOO APPLE!) Mouseglider is in the process of making an extension for tablets. Not sure about the ETA on this.
Installation & Removal:
Kickstand4u comes with installation instructions that a chimp can follow. The adhesive comes with a small strip of adhesive that you can use to figure out where to apply the kickstand. The adhesive is pretty strong as it held up a few tablets I had with no issue or signs of popping off with just a few millimeters of contact. The install on my Galaxy S3 was simple and quick and I had it working in no time at all. I had to play around with the proper placement and the correct orientation for a tablet. Tablet install instructions can be found here(http://www.remotesystems.com/kicksta...l-instructions).
Removal is a bit trickier as this is an adhesive. So some of you that don't want to slap on something to your naked phone might not want to use this. I have tried the removal off my Galaxy S3 and it sent smoothly without any sticky residue, scratches, or any gunk left behind.Mouseglider has removal instructions on his site http://www.remotesystems.com/kickstand4u-faq .
Installation: 9 out of 10 (10 is highest)
Removal: 7 out of 10
Use, Durability, Practicality, Function
Once the install was done, I was pretty much blown away by how much I actually use a kickstand. It is a bit stiff when you first use it but it breaks in after about a week of daily use. I have used many different types of kickstands from ones built into phones (Evo 4G, Evo 4G LTE, Thunderbolt) and ones built into cases (Seidio Convert, Seidio Active) and this is by far the best kickstand I have used to date. The width of this kickstand makes it ideal on different surfaces and in car use. Those thin little stands would not hold up to a sharp turn in a car. I use these on my Nexus 7 for car rides for the kids and it stays standing through all turns and stops.
I also applied two of them to my Nexus 7. My GOD this was awesome. A 7” tablet is great for watching videos in bed but I always had to hold the damn thing. I put two of these on and left it on my nightstand and it does WONDERS.(One would work just fine too but I wanted two damn it!) I now have insomnia because of this thing. I slapped it onto the back of the Nexus 7 without any issues despite the textured back. It has held on strong and I actually use my Nexus 7 more because of kickstand4u.
While the kickstand on phones is not a new idea, the ability to slap it on whatever and where ever is what makes this stand out. I'm sure you can find other uses for this on other devices. Can't get any simpler than this.
Use: 9 out of 10
Durability: 8 out of 10
Practicality: 8 out of 10
Function: 9 out of 10
Pros:
Very sturdy
4 viewing angles
Easy Installation
Different finishes for different devices
Cons:
A little long to remove but you won’t be doing it often.
Insomnia from watching stuff on your device all night long because of this thing.
Overall:
Buy it if you do a lot of video viewing or want to prop your phone or tablet up at work but don't want to buy a dock or have a dock made for your device. Awesome for movies on tablets and for flights instead of holding your tablet up.
Where can I get one?

scarrmrcc,
Thanks for the feedback, I will look into the shipping and look into the possibilty of eliminating "tracking", as right there would save you 0.85 cents.
If that might help you decide, I could also maybe put in a plain envelope and save you a few more cents.
This is a new product and I am still trying to figure everything out. But I believe you are getting a competitively priced one of a kind quality product at 50% off which puts everything at a net price to you at around $8.93 with the current shipping - includes a 1 year warranty and 60 day satisfaction return policy.
But thanks so much for the feedback - I really appreciate it!
I love the idea of this product, however I wonder of the designer might consider a version with the corners of the kickstand leg angled like the one on the case I've linked to below, as this significantly improves stability in landscape orientation.

Hello galt,
I am the designer of the kickstand4u tm - doing the blade the way your link/picture shows, doesn't really improve the stability in the Landscape position, what it does do is allow for a steeper angle when viewed in the Landscape position. This is because the blade is wide at the bottom to give it stability in the Portrait position. Therefore if the blade "did not" have that angled corner(s), the phone would be in a more upright angle which might be to upright for comfortable Landscape viewing. So by putting an angle in the blade gives the blade a less upright position for better viewing in the Landscape position. A bad analogy; think of a big heavy motorcycle, if the surface is super solid (not tar where it would dig in and thus fall over on a hot summer day), then just a pointed stick for a kickstand would provide all the stability the heavy motorcycle would need.
With all that being said, the kickstand4u tm has adjustable viewing angles to over come the need for a wide base with an angle cut in. Besides the fact that the phone doesn't weight much at all to affect the stability even if it were to be detrimental to its stability, but as I said above, it does not make it more stable with the angle cuts in the Landscape position.
The kickstand4u tm can also be mounted on your device anyway you see fit to accommodate your preference and can be installed on any device.
I thank you for the comment, as it is much appreciated. I hope I have answered your question.
Thank you!
Thanks for the explanation.
I've placed an order, I'm very excited for this product as I consider a dual-orientation kickstand a necessity, but can rarely find good cases with this option.
Question: the site offers the product in various finishes, but the link to show them doesn't seem to work. Can you show us the finishes?

Anyway, here is the direct link to the different finishes in case all else fails: http://www.remotesystems.com/images/all%20samples.jpg
Again, thank you for the order, you will get a tracking number via email tomorrow when it is shipped.
Edited: yes, I also like dual orientation kickstands, I mean why not make full use of a kickstand if that is what you are looking for? There will be an add on extender for tablets sometime this summer that will give even more versatility to 7" tablets and above - it simply slips onto the kickstand blade and will be thin, lightweight, and adjustable. I will post pictures when final design is finished.
Factory Blemished kickstand4u tm available
As of 01-12-2013, I have some factory blemished kickstand4u tm available. If there is an interest, use Promotion Code "BLEM" - Promotion is good until they are gone.
The quantity is limited. They have a very small "stress blemish" when they were ejected from the mold. The "stress blemish" area does not affect the integrity or product performance in anyway, it is a cosmetic issue. They are only available in Matte Clear.
If you are interested - use the promotion code "BLEM"
So Bottom line: Retail Price = $9.95 - BLEM 70% off Discount Promotion Code = your price of $2.98 - shipping and handling = $3.95 - Your total cost = $6.93 - Yes we take PayPal.

What area do you get stuck in? For some reason, you have to put the coupon code in twice. On the very first time which does not show the discount and then one at the check out which then "will" show the discount. The first one doesn't seem to do anything, it could be a programing error. I am working with the web software techs and they are upgrading to a new system. But it should work.
Try going thru the whole checkout and let me know. It should work, if not let me know and I will try and fix after I hear from you. BTW when you put the code in, you need to enter the same code in both places - at the cart and before the checkout.
Thanks
EDIT: I just tried both codes and you don't have to enter the code in the very first step - just enter the code in the next step and it should work. They both worked for me. But please let me know so I can fix any problems.
EDIT 2: I think I have it fixed - the error was my fault in programing - it should work correctly now without having to enter the Coupon Code twice.
Thx for the quick response.. I will check it when I get back home

cadguy,
Yes, you are correct and I apologize. I have corrected that on the website after I saw your order. I am working on trying to remedy this problem. Again, sorry for the problem. I will contact you again when/if the problem is fixed.
I will also post on the original post I made on XDA located here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16456886#post16456886 to warn others.
I really appreciate your interest in the kickstand4u tm and I thank you so much for your comment!

Got three of these. Tired of paying too much for a kickstand case that breaks in a few weeks. Now I can get a cheap case and stick one of these on. Perfect for GN2.

Your order has been processed - not only can you buy cheaper cases, but a case that you prefer over others that may not have a kickstand - Thank you very much for your order!
Alternate Closing of the kickstand4u tm
As of 01-20-13
Link to "Alternate" way to Close the kickstand4u tm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVYXCUIEJgY
This way is especially helpful when new, as the kickstand4u tm is a little stiff. This is the proper area "touch point" to use when closing. When the pressure is at the very edge of the kickstand blade, it will close very easily. When closing by hand, use the same principle. Pressing on the short piece of plastic that looks like an upside down capital "T" will damage the kickstand.

Seidio VITREO Tempered Glass screen protector with lots of pics!!!

This is Part 1 of review for Seidio VITREO Tempered Glass screen protector. http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2-vitreo-screen-guard-p/sptssgt2-cl.htm
I decided to review it in 2 parts. At the current moment I'm not ready to install it yet, so in Part 1 of the review I will go over what's in a box, and how it fits on top of the screen prior to installation. Plus, I took a lot of pictures for you to get a better idea.
My screen protector experience is based purely on dry installs where I typically prefer 3H hardness-rated PET film. I always look at screen protector as disposable/replaceable option because even the best one will get scratches at some point. Typically it won't happen on a daily basis with a regular use, but one of these days when you forget and end up with keys rubbing against your screen protector in the pocket, or while you are yanking the phone out of the zippered pocket brushing against screen protector, etc. Those times call for tempered glass material which is a lot more durable (typically 9H hardness) and more impact absorbing on a direct contact with a screen. And of course, glass will feel like a glass!!! It will cost more, but perhaps will last a lifetime of the phone so you don't have to replace/buy more regular screen protectors. Of course, this is really like a premium luxury option lol!!!
I have read a number of reviews for other tempered glass screen protectors and found one common problem. Its a glass which has less flexibility than a plastic screen protector, and in combination with curved Note 2 glass - a lot of people complain about edges not sticking with their other screen protectors. Furthermore, I noticed some designs use completely enclosed cutout around Home button, and in conjunction with thickness of the tempered glass you will actually need to add a stick-on Home button to raise it up so it doesn't feel recessed. So with all that in mind, I decided to give it a shot to Seidio VITREO tempered glass. To quote their spec:
- High grade tempered glass with a 9H hardness rating prevents damage in the event of scratches and abrasions
- Tapered (rounded) edges provide a premium and more aesthetically enhanced profile for your device
- Engineered to reinforce the strength of the critical points of impact which results in prolonged durability
- Oleophobic coating resists marks and smudges with advanced technology that reduces the appearance of fingerprints
- Designed precisely for your device with slim cut to prevent bubbling around edges
- Allows touch sensitivity and enhances optical clarity
- Easy installation without bubbling and lifting
- Only 0.55mm (0.02in) thin
As I mentioned already, I haven't installed it yet, so can't judge about touch sensitivity, optical clarify, and oleophobic characteristic yet. That will be included in Part 2 of the review (probably in a week). What I can tell you is that it feels very solid, kind of reminds me of thin plexiglass. Edges are rounded/tapered off. It's very lightweight. And it definitely has a VERY slim cut. I mean, it's so slim that it ONLY covers visible display part of the screen. I tried to take close up pics so you can see it. I guess Seidio decided not to take any chances with lifting edges, thus covering only flat part of the screen. In theory that is the only part of the screen where you glide your finger anyway. But at the same time having almost no margin will mean that you have to be VERY careful during install because you don't have any wiggle space. As I read in some other threads, this would be a good opportunity to use one of those suction cups to hold the tempered glass while lowering it down and aligning with a screen. Otherwise if you hold it by the edges with your fingers, you won't be able to align it precisely.
So here you go, pre-install pictures for your enjoyment!!! Feel free to comment if you have experience with VITREO or to suggest tips for tempered glass installation since I'm noob in that area

OK, for those who cares here are the pictures after the install and few of my comments!
Since this is my first tempered glass install, I actually found it to be easier because with a sturdier piece of glass, versus a typical dry install flexible screen protector, it's easier to hold it in your hands while positioning. Most of the positioning work goes into trying to align it with visible part of the display. Unfortunately, the width of this glass is probably 1mm wider than visible area of the screen so its not an easy task. If you don't have a steady hand or OCD, forget about it lol!!! Looked like the sticky side has some kind of a glue substance. I didn't see much of a bubbles, but noticed what seems to be like "wet" spots. I tried my best massaging it out, but probably at least a dozen still remain. When you put a pressure on it - it disappears, but then it's back. I read enough of the other tempered glass threads to realize that I probably will have to wait a few days to see how it goes. Again, speaking from a previous dry install experience where within minutes I get a perfect sp on contact - it looks to me tempered glass is not for those who want instant gratification. I will wait and see the progress, or lack of it, how these disappear. Will post updates and pictures as well. They just don't look like typical bubbles, but rather wet/glue spots.
About the glass itself. Edges are very nicely rounded off and VERY smooth. While sliding the finger over the edge you feel a very smooth transition. Thickness of the glass is higher than Home button, so the button feels a little bit recessed. Doesn't feel too bad since Home button opening is not enclosed. But if/once there is no wet spots and I decide to keep this permanently, I might consider Home button sticker. But as of now, I don't feel it's necessary. Once display is on, you don't see any wet spots at all. Everything is crystal clear, colors come through like with original glass screen, and it feels like a real smooth glass. S-pen glides smoothly too. Overall touch sensitivity and feeling is like you have an original glass display. Also, doesn't pick up too much fingerprints.
I will post an update and pictures in a few days how it looks, and hopefully those spots will disappear. As I said, they do not interfere with display on, but when it's off - its visible. At this point I will wait and see.
Here are the pictures. I tried my best to get every edge in focus since its not easy with a clear glass.
OK, so here is the-morning-after UPDATE. I run my finger across the screen and every wet spot just disappeared!!!!!! This is a picture of PERFECTION!!! No bubbles, no spots, no lifting edges, just perfect and smooth. The only comment, since it has oleophobic coating, glass feels a little slippery right now which noticeable when you need to press'n'hold while using the phone (like press'n'hold on the link to open in another window of the browser). I believe that will wear off since it's a brand new layer of coating.
Here are the final updated pictures. This one is a KEEPER!!!
I know that the edge of the Note2 glass curves downward near the edges, but having a lip like that with the protective glass would be very annoying imo.
I have no idea what to expect when I install it. I know it's tapered off, so perhaps the transition won't be as bad sliding a finger across the edge? I would have installed it right away, but I have another screen protector (regular PET film) coming my way for review, and I want to install this tempered glass afterwards.
I promise to give you my honest opinion. Just honestly don't know what to expect or even what to compare it to since I have never installed or tried tempered glass screen protectors before. I will leave it up to you guys to read my review and compare it with other reviews in this forum to figure out if it works for you or not. Hopefully pictures can do some justice as well, since those worth thousand words
Also, I do realized it is on a pricey side in comparison to other ones, and someone already mentioned ebay options. But having a previous bad experience with cheap ebay film screen protectors I learned my lesson and would rather deal with brand names. Ebay cheap stuff comes off mass production lines with hardly any quality control.
The pictures look great and show great detail, but personally, I can't justify $40 for a screen protector, no matter how good. I'm very careful with my phones and have never broken or significantly damaged one and I've switched through about 7 phones in the last 5 years so I'm knocking on wood here.
Sadly, most of the "brand name" accessories probably come off the same production line as the cheap ebay stuff, but don't get the fancy name and packaging as the stuff you pay 2-3x more for.

Hey, I got thick skin Listen guys, I'm not on payroll or invested in stock of these companies. Don't care if you buy or not these products. I'm just here to help. I do spend considerable amount of time on these reviews and typically have a format of lots of "text" and lots of "pictures". I don't mix it together 'cause different browsers/app-forum viewer scale/resize and mess it up. If you don't want to read my view, I always provide a link to a vendors site where you can read a brief summary. If you have a few minutes to kill - read my thoughts about it. And as usual I provide all the detailed pictures to cover every angle - and those worth at least a thousand words If you don't like it, just skip it - no need to complain. If you appreciate my work hit Thanks. If you have positive or negative comment about the product - it's what this forum is for, to discuss our opinion and have civilized conversation!
Check out Post #2 after the original one. I updated with my comments about the install and lot's of pictures how it looks now!!!

So, don't even pay attention to them. Also, the fact that you handled such comments maturely makes you the better person, my friend. One thing for install, I actually used provided alcohol swipe. Gotta get screen super clean and remove any oil fingerprint residue. I didn't want to take any chances. Also, I started alignment from top of the phone, just worked better for me. Prior to alignment play around with placement of the glass to figure out how to align it. It will be almost as wide as LCD part of the screen, so you need to get it right. Since I have white Note 2, I could see it better due to contrast with white bezel of the phone. But once installed right, it make it looks nice because the end of the glass is almost aligned with the edge of black LCD/white bezel. Good luck!

Thanks bro, and everybody else for kind words! I do my best to handle my replies maturely lol!!! Sh!t like that doesn't fly in forums where I'm moderating Plus, I provide links of my reviews back to the vendors because they like to read feedback and also comments from other users. XDA-Developers community held in a VERY HIGH respect with every vendor I communicate. I'm not representing vendors, but in some way I feel like I representing XDA community in a face of the vendor. I don't have to sugar coat my review, I try to present facts and support it with pictures. There are too many YT and Blog reviews where every single product is "great" and "must have" and they just read description bullets off vendors website. I'm honestly telling you that tempered glass is NOT for everybody, and its an expensive accessory. But if you decide to go with one then do your homework and read other comments on this forum. It's a big investment and you want it to work right
Also, about being able to afford such things. Just please don't take it in a cocky way, but with amount of reviews I have posted, amount of time I spend on it, and feedbacks I provided back in direct email communication with vendors, I earned their trust and respect to receive review samples. I don't want you to think I have disposal income, and I also don't want you to think that because I review something it's a must have for you to get it. I just want you guys to have as much of valuable info as you can get from my reviews so you can make up your own mind how to spend your own hard earned money. And perhaps save you and vendors hassle and headache of buying and returning it back because you based your buying choice on a pretty photoshoped picture or some blog or YT channel where they only care about number of Likes or Subscribers to build their reputation.
If you guys want to continue this discussion, feel free to post it in my official "vectron" summary review post (in my sig).

I have been using a skin protector on my phone for some time now, but have started to look for a case to have just in case.. (cough)

And I have never seen this type before and thought I would ask the community if anyone has used this case before.

Thank you, much appreciated.
I absolutely love this case. I had this one for more than a year now.
I zoomed in on the case and I can see slits for the speakers... so they are not covered up as I thought they were. Can you tell me if the sound is muffled on this case?
Thank you in advance.
Decided to buy the case, awaiting final invoice with correct shipping to the US. I emailed the seller and he informed me this case would be his last, once they sell out they are gone for good from him. I bought one and there was 1 left.
Soon as I get the case I will throw my thoughts into this thread and request a mod to move this to Accessories thread.
If anyone with experience with this case can still leave their thoughts here I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

I do have to say though, that after removing the case A LOT of times, it starts to "bend" and a small gap opens, and dust seems to go in there and ruin the look. I dont know if its just me, the phone or the case. Heres a pic

Ive found using a spare battery plate and some flexible adhesive allows the case to seal up nice, its bendable without breaking and wont grt dust and junk inside.

So a bit bummed/irritated. Seller contacted me to inform me the case is discontinued and no longer available. Despite the fact he still has a listing on ebay. I'm guessing he decided he didnt want to ship the US.
Can anyone tell me the brand and perhaps the model of this case? I really liked it from the looks and would like to continue to search for it elsewhere.

I have uploaded several pictures from each side I could best provide, The Xperia Play is a AT&T variant with the use of the pacer carbon fiber skin from the gamepad and the back cover which should not be a problem with the use of the case, it makes the back cover press on the sticker slightly but still give that firm hold.
I did drop this phone a couple times for the 6 months I had with this case and the phone was bought pre-owned, the phone is fantastic still, the case edges does not rub on the pad or the side as the sides a slightly down by a fraction of a millimeter (this could be the case because of the skin on the back cover) but it could be flushed to the pad, visually it looks flushed. I am planning to carry my Xperia Play for a long while, maybe another year before I go on another device, I just gotten the 2nd case from the same seller and same package as you seen from my last reply, the second case has a better quality but each case from I seen can vary if the case comes with tiny defects, it wont be anything to send back for refund. If I want to buy another case I will because it fully protects my Xperia Play other than the open ports and the shoulder buttons but that's a given from any other case other than the Ottercase which I found a review for and my opinion of sholder buttons was the same for me.
There are also case that comes in different colors which I found on eBay and they also have grey, blue, purple, and white. I had experience with case worth less than three bucks and the same dilemma keeps comes back, the teeth of the case are cheap and the quality of the shells scratch even if you don't try to drop it. but unlike the cheap cases, this mixed case has rubber teeth that goes all around the phone to create a large hold which works great, it's hard to remove if dropped and that problem of teeth breaking is solved; the plastic part of the mixed case it durable from scratching lightly and has a space for the Sony Ericcson logo, the color is like foggy transparent white, it's not a problem to me personally and it would look like a slight grey on any phone, from normal room lightly it looks like dark grey. The thickness of the mixed case is the slim on the top of the phone, the buttons on the bottom does not touch the surface and the sides of the bezels are covered by the case, the case bezels does not interfere with the touch operations when I used the phone which some cases do. The bottom of the phone the case is average in terms of case thickness, In my opinion this is because of how the phone has to be curved and creates some resistance
In summary the case met my expectations and has not failed me for over 6 months that I use this case, it saved my phone from drops and will continue to do the job for another 6 months, its slim to hold and fit in your pockets, its a trooper! The case is inexpensive and does the job better in terms of drop protection from scratches though not for huge drops, then a trident would do that fine. I am not a guy that goes out much and goes to college and this case is perfect for me, I recommend this case! :good:

[Q] Replacement rear covers?

Anyone come across replacement rear covers yet?
I'm looking to buy the 5" version but can only find black ones that will ship to me, so I was considering buying black and changing the rear cover to white if I can buy that by itself.

The Z3560 is used in the 2GB models right? I have the Z3580 with the 4GB model.
Same here.
I bought ZE550ML 1,8Ghz in black color because it was the last one but i wanted everything except black at start.
So if i could buy a new back to change my black one to silver or white , it would be really nice.
I dont find anything on internet for now (maybe/probably too soon), so if someone find that, thanks to share

I got them. They are meh. Look better on the picture than what they really are. Aluminum bumper with a plastic/acrylic sliding back. Adds tons of bulk to the phone. Doesn't seem very durable if it falls, at least the plastic/acrylic panel.
Let's talk only about rear cover replacement here, so others can find what they want.
The link for case above is not a rear cover, so must go to cases topic.
Rear cover replacement is exactly the same as original coming with phone. It can have different material, texture, etc, but main idea should be kept.
So far, i couldn't find custom back covers for ZF2 yet.

Those are back covers, but with flips (similar to original flip). I couldn't fins only back covers yet. Especially some special covers with textures or leather finish. For my Samsung Galaxy S4 i saw a lot of different covers (although the best one is original black edition cover). I hope ZF2 will get more attention from accessories manufacturers.

The most important - it will be very ugly. Since ZF2 has arc surface on the back, any attempt to make a flat case will make this phone very bulky and ugly.

The second one that I order is more polished and round edges. Still bulky but way less.
I've been hunting around for replacement battery covers for the Zenfone 2 and can't find anything. Asus have shouted loudly about the interchangeable coloured backplate but I can't find any for sale anywhere.
Has anyone had any luck finding any? I don't mean clip-on cases, but backplates that replace your current battery plate.

Hi
I think I've found a site that sells spare parts for asus that has what u want:
http://www.asusparts.eu/partfinder/Asus/Mobile/ZenFone/ZenFone 2 ZE551ML#Cover
The back cover contain the NFC module so it's probably one of these:
Under "Cover" section you'll find items like:
ZE551ML-6J BATT-COVER ASSY WITH NFC ANTENNA/CN
After "ZE551ML-" comes the color-code there are 6A,6B.6C.6G and 6J. (there are 5 available colors so...)
I sent them an email regarding this and they've answered that they are not sure which color goes with which code.
Hope this helps
I haven't been able to find any either...so I'm guessing no one is really making them yet. Hopefully they US launch will expand the market enough that someone decides they're worth producing.

I don't think they care, probably they deal in bulk for repair labs. Such customers would buy all colors anyway...
Anyhow you're more then welcome to send them an email and try getting a better answer. As I'm not intending to buy a cover now, I don't want to push for an answer. I feel I'll be waisting the seller's time on a non sale...
