Hello I'm sure there's a thread somewhere but I'm curious to what battery life ppl are getting from their 4.2.2 roms.. I'm currently using beanstalk with moderate use I average 8-10 hours.. What's your average battery life and using what ROM?
Sup dude, I've been switching back and forth between thedude's Hellybean and clkener's Liquid black. Both rock solid Roms. I generally tweak my Roms the same and usually get at least a day of battery from them while listening to music on my sd card at work for 5-7 hours a day. On the weekend when I don't have to deal with work calls and no music I'll get anywhere between and 32 and 40 hours.

Dam that's way better than what I'm getting what tweaks did u do
First thing I usually do in a new flash is install Trickster Mod and set min and max clock speeds to 192 and 1026 MHz respectively. Sometimes I'll shoot the max up to 1200 and change, but most of the time I'm fine with 1026. Then still in trickster I'll go to mpdecision and turn the idle_freq down to 192.
These are from ClKener. Go into voltage settings and and drop all the settings by 200000. (This is generally a pain in the ass but at least you use the overall controls on the top, but you still have to tap it a couple of hundred times) Change the governor to ondemand and the scheduler to bfq. Make sure you set it to set on boot.
I also use the app Llama. I have it tuned so generally my mobile data is off and network is turned to 2g (you can still make and receive phone calls and text messages in 2g). At home my WiFi automatically comes on, but soon as I leave in the morning the WiFi is turned off. And when my screen comes on away from home, then 3g+2g is switched on and so is mobile data. My screen is almost always set to 0 brightness. I think that's all of it.

Battery life reduction issue? blame Project butter. I might sound stupid but try android 2.3.x and you will easily get 4 days I bet.
Im atm using Carbon rom 4.2.2, By I am the forst. and normal usage im getting 2 days easily also OC to 2Ghz and governor at interactive.
I will recommend you that rom.

Ya, I agree. After they had the Project butter thing, my phone's battery went from at least ~12 hours to around ~8 hours. I have been jumping from ROM to ROM since CM7, and I have to say, once we got up to Jellybean, battery life went a step down.

Maybe im not lettin the rom sit in long enough its been about 2 days.. It deep sleeps fine and i keep my data on cause i need it for work i hear ppl getting two days out of their battery which is crazy too me i barely average 8 hrs.. Would go to gingerbread but i hated the interface and i could tell the perfornance wasnt up to par.. Ita not a app isue either unless its a system app? Try doing a factory reset. The galaxy s4 had a battery problem with the new MF9 update and a factory reset fixed all issues.

Also If you're using CWM try running darkside super wipe, and if TWRP try formatting preload too before flashing. GB lacks Project butter which means laggy UI and animations. But if you want little of both try ICS best after GB. And if you want to stay latest Give Carbon rom a try by I am the forst you will see huge difference in 1 try. also do not forget to callabirate battery after new freash install of rom.

For the record, I got 5 full hours of screen time yesterday on Hellybean, and that was with the regular clocking and my screen brightness set on automatic. Most days after using my phone like normal, I will put it on the charger with 40 to 50% left. Are you going long periods without a signal or something? If I do that cell standby eats my battery.

Besides the 50000 undervolt did you change your kernel or governor. I have blackliquid . stock kernel on ondemandx governor. Becuase ondemand will cause problems. Getting not good battery life.

First of all im not putting down anyone and there custom roms. As I am an avid flasher of them and there great features..
However.. Ive noticed with every rom I flash, my battery life SUCKS. I know kernels are suppose to have battery saver mods, but never seem to work for my phone. The only way I seem to get great battery life is if I odin back to stock. Its seems to last forever on stock.
On stock.. I would average around 10% drain every two hours of moderate use.. mainly texting..
On Custom roms I average 10 to 15 % drain every hour with same moderate use..
My question is, Could Overclocking have caused this problem??

Quite possibly... And unfortunately, you have to test different Kernels with your ROM to see what works best, or just ask the Dev which Kernel they used when developing the ROM... That's a good way to get the best battery life because after all, that's the Kernel the Dev based the ROM off of. Another option is to check out Marcusants post on setting up your Kernel for your ROM, and I apologize if you've already tried that... I'm just trying to list options... I've had problems with different kernels on different ROMS... Well at least until Rodderik started making his Kernels with Viper ROMS... Then it started working perfect lol. How are you running your clocking? Conservative? Performance? Also, are you using SetCPU with an OC/UV kernel and the Voltage Control app? If you use the two together, it could cause a lot of issues, you'd have to choose one or the other.
On the other hand, I could be 100% wrong and it could be just your flux capacitor... You know how touchy those things are. Try chucking your phone over 88 MPH and see how that works. The next step is VERY important though... Whatever you do, don't forget to put your phone in airplane mode before you throw it in the air or it'll just fall right back down after a couple feet... Keep it in the air I always say.

Im hoping once I hit 88MPH it will go back in time to when my phone actually worked. haha
I usually just use the Kernel that comes with the rom..
However I have used Set CPU and Voltage control together once. I messed around with the setting between performance and conservative.
Orion, first off. If u remember how "beepers" worked back in the day, if u ever had one, that's how text messaging works. It triggers a small ping when being sent or receiving message. So text messages really hardly use power. As far as ur battery is concerned, try this method if u like, just to see what kind of results u get. Charge battery completely with phone on first and then off. Then boot into cwm and wipe ur battery stats. Then drain ur battery completely without charging it. Then completely charge it up, and then see how ur battery does.

True, just don't wipe your battery stats too much, it could end up doing more harm than good. But good call, I overlooked that cuz I was being a smart ass lol... Please don't throw your phone, that's never a good idea haha.

Battery was ok when I overclocked.. went down hill after that. Except whenever im on stock EI22 Gingerbread and it runs all day.
On custom roms with stock frequencies I would still see a significant drain.
I don't think you fried it if it's still running fine on stock. I'd be more likely to think you're overclocking with an aggressive governor that is making your cpu stay at higher frequencies.
I havent been doing any OC or UV in months now and still have the problems on custom roms. Perhaps I got the phone that doesnt like to be modded.. Damn Sprint ha
also screen brightness has a HUGE effect on battery life. also do you do games and such? Those can be very draining as well. I am on a viper rom going on 14hrs and still at 78%. but i mostly text with my phone. about 15,000 a month to be exact. and use f.b. and xda pretty heavily. and different kernels can make the difference between 6 hours and 20.

i will say that my phone is particular on what rom i do run no matter what kernel i use
I just mainly text and surf the web occasionally. Funny part though the only game I play rarely is Deer Hunter Challenge which is a pretty high def large file game and when i play that my battery doesnt seem to drain. Right now Ive gone down 10% over the last hour just sending about 15 texts. And I have my display set to auto brightness
It's real simple...overclocking equals faster cpu AND faster battery drain. Do not overclock or do not complain about battery...one or the other.

2 days if you are not touching your phone at all, standby.
follow my guide, I think it's all about the Kernel but I shared the rom I used too just in case.
this guide is for GSM, might work on others just download the proper rom and kernel.
Optional, you can underclock to 1ghz but I didn't and got 18 means more if you underclock it.

point 1: when you go to 1GHz , it's called underclocking. undervolting is when you lower the voltage for the corresponding processor frequencies.
point 2: 18h , but what about screen ON ? how much is the "normal usage" equivalent to, in terms of screen ON and the stuff that you're running on your phone.
it's nice to see you trying to contribute and thumbs up for the effort, and i really don't want to sound like an a-hole, but this is not a guide. flashing a custom rom + kernel, and letting the battery go through a few cycles cannot be considered as a guide with battery saving tips. Cheers mate.

You are right, but I learned now ^^
well around 8 hours normal usage of screen time (screen awake), and when I am on a phone call and the screen is off it toke 1% every 10mins

Yah I hate to be that guy but where's the guide? Everyone uses their phone different. You should at least show your battery usage screen shot so we can see screen time etc.
What? Are you telling me that you get 8hrs of screen on time? Is this trolling or just a language barrier?

sorry, I wiped stats but you can study this.
just look at my charge time compared to the times I am using phone, and because it last longer I don't care when its red and low, I was in 5% from 9pm to 11pm chatting from time to time and facebook, and btw my wifi is always on.
and pardon me I am new Xd I am just sharing something not an expert or something but next time I will make sure : it's called underclocking <- I though both are same, and post screenshot and screen on time
EDIT: I think I should charge it to 100% and make it drain then share pics with you guys, that's the proper way for screenshot right Xd? cuz mine looks like a mess XD

Your phone was plugged in multiple times throughout your screenshots. So yes, you should redo screen shots from 100% and include display on time.
It doesn't really matter though, as no one will see your same results unless they use their phone the exact same way.
And under clocking is unnecessary on the nexus, it doesn't spend hardly any time at 1200mhz anyway. I use mine for a lot of game play and still don't spend much time over 691mhz (Trinity kernel). So if my phone decides it does need to ramp up to 1190mhz to remain buttery smooth I'm not going to interfere.

I'm not understanding why you prefer 1.5 trinity kernel and 307 gpu. What benefit are you seeing versus the other trinity kernels with higher gpu and lower overclock limits? Are you running your phone at 1.5?

Same here. I have no problem getting 18 hours out of my stock battery using the stock ROM and kernel, including just shy of 6 hours of screen on time.
I dont know that I would call this a guide. Its saying to use a certain rom and kernel and to charge the phone. . . . .
hey thanks for the write up... i used it alone to change the colors! now my screen isn't yellow.
question though... when I adjust my colors manually, when I go to 0 percent brightness, everything goes like super green... like crazy looking lol.. but at 3 percent it's fine again... any idea why this happens and how I can fix it to get true 0 percent? thanks!

I'm using a stock one and all I can say is: Just dont use Nexus as a videogame.
I got 3 days and some hours of battery talking some minutes and using wifi for some time (probably 4 hours overall).
Playing sucks up the battery life. At least for me.
A normal day of use, with wifi active, many calls, auto bright and SetCPU profiles gives me 'bout 18-24 hours of use.
A intense play day gives me 8 hours. And I think its generous.

hey thanks for the write up... i used it alone to change the colors! now my screen isn't yellow.
question though... when I adjust my colors manually, when I go to 0 percent brightness, everything goes like super green... like crazy looking lol.. but at 3 percent it's fine again... any idea why this happens and how I can fix it to get true 0 percent? thanks!

Finally I helped one person, thanks man I love you XD
and this guide is just experience, because most people are wondering what is best rom and kernel combination, well this was best for me at least.

I am serious about to go back to GB. ICS is sucking in the category of battery life. I need to know what is going on.
I am running Re-Calk 0.1.17 with Agat 4.3 and CPU Sleeper. Took my phone off the charger at 8pm and already down to 85% with it being in nothing but deep sleep. Same thing basically happened on Blazer also.
I need something to keep me on ICS. Someone please tell me what you are using.
I have had the same issue. Ive tried many combinations of roms, kernels and tweaks but I still haven't been able to match calk's 3.0. Curious to see if anyone is getting decent battery life on ICS.
I'm getting good battery on aokp m6 but it also varies widely depending on what I do. if I play alot of games or watch alot of video I have about 10% after a 16-18hr day if I just browse and txt I go to bed between 30-50%. Only tweaks I did was disable the capacitive buttons and led by deleting their files from inside the he folder in /system
We are legion, for we are many.

i use system tuner pro and change the cpu setting power save plus all add all the tweaks
I dunno, whats good for you? I am back on my trusty CM9 Nightly 7/17 which has the FF18 repack kernel which was supposed to be worse on battery life than the FF11. I get 30 hours or so on my days off or days at work when i might check the phone a couple times an hour.
Heavy usage any rom, any android version can kill an E4GT in 3 or 4 hours most days i get 6 to 8 with an hour of 100% brightness screen on time.
I am on the sprint official OTA and I avg around 13 -18 hrs with 5-6 hours screen time....could be more if I wasn't a heavy usage type

Wow, this almost seems too good to be true...What % usage was your Android OS? What other settings do you use (i.e. Auto Sync Off/On, Number of Apps, etc.) Are you sure you are not talking about the SG3?

2% screen on how many minutes was ur screen on
i think the reason why Calk 3.0 have superb battery life is because the CPU is underclocked at 800Mhz instead of 1.2Ghz
Just my $0.02
I was Super Galaxy ROM for a while and my battery life wasn't ever that great
I had to take my phone in for a signal problem (which ended up being a downed tower that the Sprint rep didn't bother to mention, don't get me started) and so I flashed to GB and then did the OTA update to ICS
I've been getting awesome battery life outta this thing now.. It was a really light use day today, but I'm at 60% after 13 hours (only 1 hr of screen on-time though).. but on SuperGalaxy I would usually be at about 20% of less even with little to no screen time.. (I did love everything else about Super Galaxy though)..
But I've seen lots of people say they got horrible battery life on the OTA... (I did start from a completely clean phone though if that matters)

no clue, i played a bit of temple run, made a few calls, and did a bit of texting
I'm running stock ICS and get the same battery life as GB. I can get 12-16 hours 8 if I'm on the phone constantly reading and browsing. Glad I don't have the issues others have had. At first my battery was pretty bad but it continued to improve over time.

curious to see which ROM you experienced the best battery life with. I am not a big flasher but used darkside v8 and CMX and seems like v8 got better battery life. Mainly a web browser, email, pandora. not big on games. what has your experience been like so far?
Nothing wrong with stock ICS (if you tune it right). No need for CPU sleepers scripts or something like that if you keep you phone clean from sloppy written apps.

Wow dude can you give me some tips on how to get this type of battery life. I'll kick CM9,CM10, AND AOKP to the side to get half that production. The best I've done is 30% after 28 hours hitting Youtube pretty hard .

Lol, that can't be the answer I like using Jedi Mind Trick, I'm getting far better battery life than when I was on the Darkside Rom, even with tweaks.
Jedi ROM is rocking. Beutiful with battery and really fast
whick kernel are you guys using with jedi? faux 006 or faux 007?

Sure it can. 1 hour of screen time?
I personally use stock rooted GB and average 1 day 12 hours with 3 hours of screen time. I've got screen shots in one of the other battery life threads. That's fine for me.

Why even have a phone if you don't use it? Out of 96 hours you used it for 1 hour, thats like 15 min a day. That's not showing good battery life of usage, it's showing battery life on standby

You right. I was experimenting those days. Besides it was 30 min per day - 15 min of screen time (checking email and reading news) and 15 min of voice call.
This test also shows that there are no rough apps on my phone which could eat battery on background. And the ROM is pretty stable. What would be your results in similar scenario?
If you have read my posts - one day I had 7:40 hours of screen time (was reading ebook) and had 40% battery left. This is another type of usage.
So power consumption is vastly different depending on type of usage... if say you are looking YouTube through 4G your phone will be dead in 2-3 hours...
I have posted results of power consumption during different type of usage so one can compare more objectively and not against "OMG this ROM/app are so good" statements.
Don't have any stats to prove it other than experience but after a few hours on Jedi Mind Trick I can already tell it's being great on battery compared to any AOSP based ROM and it's SNAPPY fast!
For some reason it reminds me of the Darkside GB based ROM Digital Warfare (this thing was crazy good on battery!).

some people use 007 and others 006. New JEDI V5 is ready to download
I'm on rooted Stock ICS and get 6-10 hours of battery life depending how much I'm using my phone whether it's on facebook, twitter, foursquare, instagram, textin etc etc.
Right ladies and gents...Not going to bore you with long ass intros and long guides i just want to show you that since i updated my hboot and started using Viper X i have been getting exceptional battery life.
This is with Stock Kernel guide
Now you are asking how is that possible. Simple. First of all make sure you flash stock kernel which you can find here.
Once you flashed the rom and fully updated to the latest OTA leave everything on as it is. I have not messed with any of the syncing of apps or anything else. I just left everything as it is.
Now get yourself either System Tuner or FauxClock apps. They are both cpu apps and highly recommendable that i use. Or just use the Viper Cpu app in tweaks. Now set the following:
Governor: Ondemand
Scheduler : Noop
Cpu clock frequencies to: 1.2GHz as max and leave the min at 102MHz or even right at the lowest
You can not UV stock kernel so no point asking that question.
Now i use wifi on all the time when i am at home. But see here is the trick. When my screen is off i make sure that wifi is sleeping as well. How i do that..Simple.
Settings - Wifi - press Menu - advanced - keep wifi on during sleep and just tick only when plugged in.
Autosync is left on and all my emails are getting synced and i get instant emails when my wifi is on. I use AppyGeek and the widget gets updated with the latest stories all the time as i have that synced all the time.
I do not use Facebook but i do use Twitter and that is on all the time and i also listen to Spotify and Whatsapp is on as well to get instant messages whenever i am on wifi..
Now i do not know if this helps anyone but i just wanted to show what i did and i am managing great battery life on ViperX and this is based on first charge as well..Always make sure you let the rom and kernel to settle and always give a few charge cycles before judging the battery life..
Use this guide as well if you want for other JB roms and you will see that sticking for the moment with stock kernel and using what i have done will work for you like a treat...Call this if you want Rock Solid Config v1.0
Plus use this app. Highly recommend it and that way you can see what is eating your battery and what is keeping your phone awake when screen is off..More info go to the app thread.

Renovate battery results with stock kernel
Nice guide but your screen on seams to be low Imo, i get avarage 4-5hrs without underclocking, simply using power saver from time to time. today before i put my phone on charge i had 1hr 58mins screen on time wifi / sync and everything else on phone was 22hrs 44min active 1hr 26mins of phone call and brigntness 30% left me with 58% of battery. Didn't use powersaver at all, Underclocking sometimes can cause more battery drain then leaving it at 1500 . for example if you do some task that requires lets say 1300mhz with your settings on cpu phone will have to use 2 cores since you limited it onto 1200ghz 1 core and 4cores 1100, Anyway this is just my theory about this lol , don't take it seriously just sometimes my battery lasts longer without power saver or underclocking then leaving it as it is, it all depends on the task and stuff you do. Anyway thx for the guide im sure it will help to alot of ppl =)
IMHO, nothing out of extraordinary here.
I'm on stock and i have the same result, if not better. I manually turn Wifi off when screen is off which is the same as the setting that you applied (Wifi ON - only when plugged in).
People here are going crazy about battery life which is something trivial. Just forget about this and plug the phone when it's empty!

I like the Rom a lot, thank you for providing such an awesome Rom. What i'm not getting right is the battery life of some of the other users. The battery life of my phone seems to be a bit better then stock, but not a lot better. Screen times are between 2 hours and 3 hours and 3 hours seems to be the max with my usage of the phone. I did a lot to improve that battery life. Kernel (android os) seems to be the big battery absorber. I use my phone normally, lot of whatsapp and facebook and checking other news of social sites. Hardly playing any games or something, hardly using GPS and bluetooth. Is that a normal battery life for that usage?

So, questions about your fipo:
- When switching off wifi when screen is off, do you still get incomings whatsapp messages, facebook messages, e-mail etc?
- You're talking about a good battery life, what is good in your opinion?

Good battery life is to be able to go through a day without having to charge your phone a couple of times...Screen on if you can get anything over 3hrs is pretty good..Even 2.5hrs is pretty decent in my eyes.
when switching off wifi when screen is off no you will not get messages...once you turn the screen on though every single message will come through..
If you download deep sleep battery saver from the market you can adjust the time that the wifi goes off during the screen is off and you can have it so every hour say about five minutes you can get messages coming through if you feel that you want them
Gonna start testing battery life on Renovate now..Await results in the next few days.. Trying different governor this time round
Im using system tuner you recommended. I applied governor and cpu clock correctly I think. But Where do I find scheduler?
