Hey folks everyone on here is praising about the quad core control feature in the battery settings, other then the fact it saves your battery, how does it function? I have it toggled on first time using it. I've Google it and no luck. If anyone knows please share. Thanks.

It puts your un-needed cores into a deep sleep when not needed faster... it's like power saver vs performance mode.
If you want to physically see what it does I suggest this.. download an app that lets you see the state of each of your cpu's like, CPU-Z. Turn quad core off open cpu-z and look at the start of your cpu's, try pulling down your notification bar or volume up and down, and take note of you cpu states and how long they stay that way...now turn quad core optimizion on and do the same. You should notice a difference... with quad core on three of your cores will go into deep sleep quicker thus saving your battery. I personally LOVE quad core optimizion.
Hope this was helpful..
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??
Thanks man summed it for me, I personally can't tell the difference in performance.
Edit: performance as in speed, as in battery life OMG wow!
I think there's no quad core option on F240k or Korean version
How can I enable it?

When on, this option allows the cores to power down and perform at a lesser output in order to save power. When off, the cores will fire up and perform at optimal level with higher output. It's basically a battery saving feature.
For e988 indonesia quad control on mean only 2 core active..core 0 and core 1...never see activities on core 2 and 3...become dual core ...
See with cpu-z and play q internet and q video

It uses different governors, like "powersave" in quadcore turned on, and "on-demand" in quadcore turned off. And those governors not handmade but optimized directly by Qualcomm therefore work better than CyanogenModes ones

No different, but in case this is light game.
If i play high graphic games with or without quad control the result is same.
CPU will always stick as high as possible
It turns processor to dual core.

Does using setCPU with the Tegra 3 and it's 5th core muck up the Tegra 3's native power saving capability (ie. using the fifth core as a low energy solution for minimal activities)?
Has anyone seen tests of battery use with and without?
What I have seen from my use over the past week or so with SetCPU is that you can set the governor and the minimum clock both of which have an effect (although minimum clock is not strictly adhered to).
I don't believe the 5th core is exposed to the android OS so SetCPU shouldn't effect that at all.
I'm testing the beta and no it does not effect the max 100% of the time the tegra power management seems to kick in. I have informed mike (setcpu author) about this issue he is looking in to it.

I guess set cpu is not supported quad core yet
As James pointed out, the 5th Slave core is Transparent and not visible to Android, so it 'shouldn't' be effected by SetCpu

It supports quad core CPU scaling, the question is about the 5th core.
That the 5th core is invisible does make it seem like it wouldn't effect this issue, however I would like to understand a bit more about how it works to be sure.
From what I understand, when processor use is low and the CPU is scaled below 500mhz(?) then the 5th core alone is used, whereas at higher frequencies the other 4 cores are fully engaged.
I would just be worried that setting the CPU speed through methods other than whatever method HTC/nvidia had arranged for might negate this benefit. It'd be good to know from the setCPU guy what's going on, since he likely understands a lot about how CPU scaling works...
Here's my Feedback on using SetCPU with HOX:
When trying to underclock my phone
Max: 1000 Min:51
Result: rebooted within 5 minutes and then kept on doing this untill I reset the SetCpu settings to phone defaults and uninstalled
similar user experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596992&highlight=setcpu
I have seen that there is an app created for the HOX:
CoreControl: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652136
I want to give this a go and I feel this a relevant topic to be stickied maybe under a different Topic Title ie. Custom CPU settings
Will install CoreControl and revert...
BTW: what settings have you tried using with SetCPU to underclock that doesnt result in a random reboot and that works, also what version of setCpu are you using
system tuner will allow to set the clocks for T3 properly
CoreControl is for enable/disable cores, not for overclock/underclock, I've been using it for a while, at least my HOX doesn't heat up much

I can now concur with @vegasphinx it doesn't heat up as much and I dont notice the difference besides the toastie popping up every so often saying CoreControl has been granted SU
can any of you give me an idea how to setup the Battery Stats within CoreControl
It crashes because there's no kernal that supports overclock/underclock.

Hi there, thinking about getting SetCPU - I have some questions before I do because I hear it can be dangerous?
- I've heard it can brick your phone?
- What if you set it too high?
- Do you personally have to monitor it?
- What are the benefits?
- Use alot of battery?
- Is it really worth using?
- Is it optimized for different phones - example the One X?
Thanks guys!

Hi, i have read that SetCPU cannot view all the cores i have read alot saying that System Tuner works fine you might want to try that.
I used to use SetCPU on my sensation and never hand any issues with it i did not monitor the app at all
Benefits allows overclocking if available in kernel
it can be overclocked and cause some issues such as overheating but if set correctly will be fine doesnt use much battery if any
and no i dont think you can brick your phone
if you set it too high i believe i had to reflash rom nothing major
BTW this is based on my own knowledge and usage
Hope this helps
Thanks man

How much battery life can you save using setCPU?

None in theory, if the CPU is slower it takes longer to go from
idle - process - idle
Faster speeds allow it to get it over and done with faster and get back to idle.
Of course it will at times stop the CPU going higher than it needs too which could save battery.
Under volting will save more batter then underclocking ever will.

Thanks. I have system tuner, but what do I need to do in order to improve battery life?
I have set the governor to powersave. Is there anything else? How would I undervolt using this app?

undervolting requires your phones kernel to support it, currently on these forums there is only one that does but i haven't tested it, sticking firm to the "stock kernel is best" and will do untill the kernels have more time to mature.
you could limit your max speed to 1 GHz, if you are rooted you can use Core control to turn off cores and run your phone as a dual core.

Not to be lazy, but would running the phone as dual core and limiting it to 1 ghz result in a perceptible battery savings? I'm trying to get a feel for how much I should expect custom ROMs to make my One X perform up to par. Thus far, I've installed two custom ROMs and felt like the improvements were all safely in the minor category.
I did install cyanogenmod 7 on a phone last year wow, that resulted in major benefits.

Running on 2 cores stops the phone from using and 2 cores uses less power then 4, playing games and using all cores is over kill 2 cores will run the game without lag use less power and make less heat.
You'll maybe get 10% from doing that but I haven't tested.
Really the only time any of this saves battery is during demanding programs, tegrea has a super low power companion core, for all your power saving needs.

I tried conservative governor while downloading sd files for Nova3 gave execllent results
I strongly advice not to undervolt tegra3
t3 is not like any other chip and UV or OC should not be attempted
OC because the chip is already at the max of its thermals
UV for the same reason n might end up with problems like flicker
changing governors and UC should be enough
Has anyone tested ECO Mode (labeled "Quad Core Control" under settings)?
I'm curious if it improves battery for anyone else. I have gotten about the same results with it on and off. Same goes for performance, no noticeable difference with it on or off.
What's everyone else's results?
I've kept Eco Mode on all the time but I've only had the phone for three days though so not enough time to really test out the difference yet.

I believe it dynamically sets the affinity for each process on different cores.
So for instance, process A might be on core 0, while process B, C, and D are on core 1, 2, and 3 respectively.
This doesn't account for dual and quad core optimizations by developers, and just assumes that only 4 processes are running (in reality its dozens or more).
The main goal is to spread the work to keep the load down.
Less load = lower clock frequency.
If you've ever done any underclocking or overclocking, each step up uses more power.
Of course, this could also be all wrong, and it could just make the kernel undervolt and underclock and raise the response time between steps.

I have a widget on the home screen that shows clock speed, temp, and cpu load. I have yet to see any differences on it. The temps reach the same levels, it still goes from .384 to 1.512, cpu load seemed to go up maybe 10% if any. The only thing i noticed was that when i would click Home, it seemed to take a bit longer to load my layout. I can't say i noticed any thing different on battery life, which to be honest i have been very impressed with.

I read your post and looked at the screen shots but can't read that language, so I'm not sure which is Eco mode on and which is off.
Can you elaborate on "it really works" please?
the second one is eco mode...
Sorry if I'm late in this information, but apparently Eco mode disables core 2 and 3, and leaves core 0 and 1 running.
So if it's Eco or not really depends on the workload on the processor.
Sent from my LG Optimus Prime G
no, with eco all 4 cores work. every bench says that
Hm, well it's either the program just reporting that there are 4 device Id's for the CPU, or it could actually be that the four cores are working.
My last post was just something I picked up off a Google search.

I've noticed in numerous battery monitoring programs, that only two cores, of my quad core processor are active. Constantly. Just wondered if this is common? Do the other two cores kick in only on certain functions? Gaming, etc? Never had a quad core anything, so though I am computer knowledgeable, I find myself stuck on this quandary. Thanks for reading, and possibly answering me.

Sorry for my poor english. But something i really want to ask. Help me please.
I've got some problem on my z5 premium dual(6883). I'm not sure if it is problem of my phone or all e6883. Please can anyone help me or tell me?
z5 premium/z5 premium dual are using s810 with 4-a53 cores and 4-a57 cores. But my phone is always using the 4-a53 cores but seldom use a57 cores. Even use a57 cores, just use only maximum at 2. It is so weird. And even the 4-a53 cores are all fully used (usage: 100%), it won't switch to use or active a-57 cores.
So, my question is, can anyone tell me this is my e6883's problem or all e6883's problem?
the second processors usually get ignited ONLY if resources are LOW on the first chipset. running two simultaneously will drain battery!
don't worry! enjoy the device

Thx for answering me.
But i have still got a question. Just now i'm trying to open snapchat to reply my friends and i figured out my a-53 cores are fully loading about half minutes but the a-57 cores are still sleeping Is it just my e6883's problem? or something else?
