the solutions posted seem outdated or didn't work. backing up files worked great until today. I have over 10gb free space. tried also clearing and reinstalling. any help would be appreciated. I'm on paranoid android an this just started when I tried to backup additional apps today
I wonder if TiBU isn't updated to 4.3 or not fully compatible.

it worked great until today so that isn't it. i had installed 3 apps today wanted to update my backup as i usually do here and there and am getting that error. it had been great until that point. nothing that would change to cause the error as best as i can tell
For me it hasn't worked since day 1 of my nexus 7 it works on my galaxy nexus 4.2.2 so im guessing its a 4.3 issue.

Helium seems to work great. thanks for the tip
You just have to go into TiBu preferences and back up a few places on where you store your backups. Worked for me this morning. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

helium seems to get stuck about 3/4 of the way through. no luck at all with these backup programs
Here is how I fixed it go into TB preferences > Backup Folder Location
1. Next hit Back button till you are in the root folder of your device "/" ( this at the top)
2. Next click sdcard
3. Then click on the "Titanium Backup" folder. Top should say "/sdcard/ Titanium Backup"
4 . Then click use this folder
I have had the problem before as well. I suspect it is related to an old restore, but not sure. This always fixes it for me:
1. Unistall the app
2. Using Root Explorer go to System/Data/app-lib
3. Find and delete all references to the app you deleted
4. Open the Play store and re-install.
This can be done without uninstalling. When you navigate to app-lib you'll find multiple versions of the app mentioned. You keep only one (delete any duplicates), then go to System/ Data /Dalvik-cache and delete the same duplicates (if you kept -2 in app-lib, keep -2 in Dalvik). Wiping dalvik in recovery won't work. It regenerates at re-boot with the dups at least it did for me).
I have had success with both methods, but find the 1st method always works & the 2nd method does not, as it is easy to miss a copy in dalvik. The Dalvik versions are deleted for you with the uninstall so I find it simpler.
I spent weeks looking for this solution a while back for my GNex so I hope I've saved you a headache or two.

This is basically how I fixed the problem on my N4 and N10 as well. Basically, you're backing up to the same location, it's just that TiBu doesn't like the old file path (for me, it was: /storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup) and wants you to use a different one (for me, it is: /storage/sdcard0/TitaniumBackup).

This was the ticket for me. After deleting cache and data, looking for odex files, reinstalling from play store. I had tried changing path to start but I still chose emulated to a different location so it still didnt work lol.

+1 to this solution. I had the same problem using TiBu when I tried to backup my apps to prep for a switch from CM10.2 to Paranoid Android.
Thank goodness for TiBu's update.zip feature, makes jumping between ROMs much less of a pain.

So glad I found this thread, it works! Thank you
I have had the same problem since moving from CM 10.1 to CM 10.2. Seems my super su also wants to update binaries after every nightly flash. Can't update binaries normal way so I flash them in TWRP. After the supersu flash, my titanium backup works perfectly.
I've tried everything except re flashing the phone. Nothing at all works, and I'm at the end of my rope. EDIT: Here's the only thing that fixed it! Downloaded SuperSU, allowed it to boot into recovery to update the binary, and now TIBU works fine! That was the ONLY solution that worked.

Well, hi everyone!
The thing is that I'd like to know if there is a way to install multiple apps in one hit (or maybe a couple) because I use Titanium back up which works grate its very useful, but when you wipe and flash and have a few apps, it gets kind of annoying that it prompt you before installing every app, at first seems like no biggie but when you do it weekly (or more) is no longer the same feeling.
And you can create that file to install Titanium Back Up from the recovery, is there a way to do that with other apps, or perhaps putting the apk files (from the TBU folder ) on a zip file, will it install the apks from CWR? Even if is just the app without the data, I could restore that with TB. I know that the files on the update.zip that TB create isn't an apk, but there's gotta be a way to do this.
Any thoughts?

The pro version of TiB doesn't prompt you for each app, it batches the whole process
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
In tibu hit your phones menu key then "batch". I think there is also a batch apk installer program for windows floating around somewhere Im sure you could find it with a search.
That's what the pro version is for. Batch restore with no clicking. That's how they get you
Its totally worth a few $ to not have to click through every restore.
Thanks will get pro then, thou still would be good to install from the CWR, you know, flash the ROM flash the apps, ready to go.
But thanks for the quick replay.

Even if you only flash a few ROMs here and there, the Pro version is easily worth the money! Just hit one button and go drink a beer while it installs lol.
This mod will backup your apps and auto update the backup on your sdcard at every boot.
Backup apps and data
Flash zip
Open terminal and type su
Then type bak
Follow onscreen instructions
After you do a restore you must reboot or do a hot restart before the apps will show in the menu.
Before installing a new rom just reboot one time to update your backup or do it manually with the script, then after you install your new rom flash this again and restore.
This uses init.d
Now it syncs files instead of using 7zip using rsync. Thanks to dodava for the info and download of rsync it's a much more efficient way to do it.
It also syncs data and settings now but some settings cannot be restored so it excludes those. It keeps your system settings but not accounts like google you have to make those again if you change roms. It does keep app data for installed apps.
Backups are located at /sdcard/appsbak
Please post question/comments/problems here.
If you use this in your rom please leave the creds in the files, Thank You.
Will NOT work with aosp roms sorry...
Awesome, will give it a shot. Thanks!
I tested this for the MT4G before the release, it works great just follow the instructions listed.
Just In Case:
In Terminal Emu type: ( SU # bak )then follow instructions.

Not yet, this actually took some time to get this working on the MT4G from the Evo 3D do to the fact he doesn't have the phone but there will be more added in the near future. This does a great job at updating the zip for newer versions of apps installed and clears what you delete apon reboot, the good thing about it is holding on to what you actually use without fear of losing apps say something happens with the device.
Good job

I will be adding apps data and account info to it. Just have to do some testing, and make sure it all works properly. I will be switching to rsync as well instead of 7zip. Right now i can backup all of the data in /data/data which has all your settings and app data may be good enough to restore i'll try and see.

so anyone got any ideas on how i can solve this??

im using RCMix 4.0 Energized Blue version, and when i did the backup i was on stock gingerbread tem-rooted (previous to downgrading). As to what i did...nothing i guess, just went into TB and when i went to backup/restore and selected batch and then went on to look at the restore part, it says 0 everywhere (as if there is nothing to restore), i've checked the folders and the files are there, so i dont get why it doesnt recognize them... hope this helps...
Can you try going to restore them individually? Maybe its a problem with batch. Did TB come preloaded on the ROM or did you install from market ?

I believe I know the solution.
I think I had the same problem when I flashed NRG's RCMix ROM. Its an issue with the Busybox he cooked in with it. Don't know if its a version issue, or corrupt or something. But I think I downloaded the Busybox installer from the Market, installed Busybox, and Titanium worked fine.

Now that I think about it, I may be thinking of a similar issue I had with Titanium on my HTC Flyer Tablet (after updating to Honeycomb), and not my Desire Z with RCMix. Sorry if it was a wild goose chase. But I guess no harm in trying, anyway.

Yeah, no problem... at least it was an idea... but nevermind guys, i can live without the backups... thanks anyways to everyone who tried to help!
Could you try to flash the last recovery from Rom Manager and then try the "fix permission" option?
Then wipe the Superuser cache.
For back up, I use Mybackup root and never had any issues...
Any error messages when you open Titanium? When I had the Busybox issue, I think Titanium gave me an error message (whenever I opened it) about not being able to obtain root, or something about Busybox.
Another thing about the Busybox issue I had on my Flyer. The Busybox installer from the Market that I've always used (by Stephen Stericson) didn't work for some reason. But the one by JRummy16 fixed the Titanium issue.
Again, probably won't help. But if you're still running out of options, don't think it would hurt to try.

Guys, thanks for the help, but already figured out the problem... its not fixable as far as i know... the problem is it seems it didnt create two files: <somename>.tar.gz file contains the data
<somename>.apk.gz contains the app
and thats why it can do the restoring
PD: thanks to guhl on #g2root as he pointed to me i was missing those 2 files
I was backing up the Rom I'm using. Jedi X11 (I back up every 4 weeks) when during the process it says "back up failed".
Something to do with the MD5.

The contents also can't be deleted.
Any idea on how I can delete them?

Also because there is a funky character in the name. You may need to just delete the backup folder. .. Since I don't see any other files in there if shouldn't be an issue

UPDATE: did the GooManager install method, but when i reboot to recovery the TWRP touch interface isn't there, just a basic push button recovery with no backup or restore options? do I try again? do I need to remove the initial install first & if so, how? would CWM be a better option on 4.1.2?
UPDATE: after messing with it, and discovering I can't use CWM, I basically just need help on how to completely remove all traces of & the app itself from my phone so I can do a fresh install, just uninstalling it doesn't help. When i reinstall the program it doesn't give me the chance to reinstall the script, like its already there but messed up somehow. phone is still rooted & functions fine. go figure

Thanks to anyone & everyone who helped & put up with my NOOB to Samsung, ODIN, etc.. Hopefully day 2 with this phone goes a bit more smoothly.
Don't know what I'd do without this site!
As this topic came up top on Google for 'TWRP backup can't be deleted' I thought I would add that I managed to delete the backup by changing to the non touch CWM. I did this with the play store Rom Manager so I did not have to flash from download or Odin :good:
Use Data/Media insted of sdcard/ solved
I just had the same problem, wanted to delete 2 failed TWRP backups from my internal memory, had a good backup on my external, all delete attempts failed.
No need to flash or install anything... I used ES file Explorer.. (any root file Explorer should work).
Changed the path on top to (Data/Media) and browse to your backup, delete successful
Had to reboot to see the new free space back.

I know this is an old-ish thread - but thank you! Feeling like an idiot.
I recently upgraded to stock TW Lollipop using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393
Okay now the problem is that my stock clock app that came with my phone no longer works any advice on how to fix this?
Another problem is my Titanium Back-Up Pro can no longer write on my SD card to back-up my apps to it, anyone know how I could fix this?

Wipe dalvik cache and cache should help with your clock app. As for the Ti Backup app, you may want to try the newest version. Mine is working alright.

Nope didn't work anymore ideas?
Have you tried clearing the cache and data from in the Application Manager? Open System Settings and choose the General tab. From here scroll down and choose Application Manager. Now swipe left three times to the All category. Scroll down to clock and choose it. In the new window scroll down and clear cache then clear data above it. Now reboot and go into TWRP and wipe Dalvik again. This process will delete any alarms you have created.

At this point I would personally re-flash the system. Starting at Step 0 with the guide you linked.
Like all new Samsung roms it has a write protect on the system so you can't write to the SD card get ahold of the write fix and just push it into the system/etc/permissions folder and everything will work again

First off thanks for helping out on both my posts!
I think I got the file it's something like build.prop.sd.fix.zip I'm going to flash it using my recovery. Is that good?
The file is platform.xml and it goes into system/etc/permissions
I had a problem with play store and play services constantly crashing on me. I ended up factory resetting twice I believe and now it works tits
