[Q] Titanium Backup problem - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, i installed TB and did a backup before flashing a rom... now i try to restore things but it doesnt find them, says i dont have any apps nor data to restore... i checked the folder, and its set up on the one where all the backup files are (/sdcard/Titaniumbackup) and i see the files there, but TB doesnt... already searched for solutions, but seems noone else has had this specific problem
so anyone got any ideas on how i can solve this??
thanks!!

Where are you encountering the error? What do you do for it to tell you you have no data to restore? Can you provide a screen shot? Also what ROM were you using before and what ROM are you using now?

im using RCMix 4.0 Energized Blue version, and when i did the backup i was on stock gingerbread tem-rooted (previous to downgrading). As to what i did...nothing i guess, just went into TB and when i went to backup/restore and selected batch and then went on to look at the restore part, it says 0 everywhere (as if there is nothing to restore), i've checked the folders and the files are there, so i dont get why it doesnt recognize them... hope this helps...

Can you try going to restore them individually? Maybe its a problem with batch. Did TB come preloaded on the ROM or did you install from market ?

Can you post some screen shots of the problem ? such as when you see the error on batch.. it's very weird.. What's the folder you're using for TB set up as?

and when you connect your device to PC ass mass storage (or when you attach your sdcard directly to your computer) what do you see inside TitaniumBackup folder? is it empty, or are there some files inside?

I believe I know the solution.
I think I had the same problem when I flashed NRG's RCMix ROM. Its an issue with the Busybox he cooked in with it. Don't know if its a version issue, or corrupt or something. But I think I downloaded the Busybox installer from the Market, installed Busybox, and Titanium worked fine.

Now that I think about it, I may be thinking of a similar issue I had with Titanium on my HTC Flyer Tablet (after updating to Honeycomb), and not my Desire Z with RCMix. Sorry if it was a wild goose chase. But I guess no harm in trying, anyway.

Yeah, no problem... at least it was an idea... but nevermind guys, i can live without the backups... thanks anyways to everyone who tried to help!

Could you try to flash the last recovery from Rom Manager and then try the "fix permission" option?
Then wipe the Superuser cache.
For back up, I use Mybackup root and never had any issues...

Any error messages when you open Titanium? When I had the Busybox issue, I think Titanium gave me an error message (whenever I opened it) about not being able to obtain root, or something about Busybox.
Another thing about the Busybox issue I had on my Flyer. The Busybox installer from the Market that I've always used (by Stephen Stericson) didn't work for some reason. But the one by JRummy16 fixed the Titanium issue.
Again, probably won't help. But if you're still running out of options, don't think it would hurt to try.

Guys, thanks for the help, but already figured out the problem... its not fixable as far as i know... the problem is it seems it didnt create two files: <somename>.tar.gz file contains the data
<somename>.apk.gz contains the app
and thats why it can do the restoring
PD: thanks to guhl on #g2root as he pointed to me i was missing those 2 files

[Q] Titanium Back up restarting Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo

Hi, I've been trying for the last week to get Titanium Backup to restore my apps with Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo.
Everything installs without any problems and it runs flawlessly.
I flash my TitaniumBackup's update.zip to install TiBu.
When I launch TiBu and go to either Batch Restore or Restore a single app it freezes up and the phone restarts back to the sprint 4G screen.
The restart takes like 15 seconds max.
Things i've tried:
Wiped/Flashed/reflashed
Nandroid backup/restore.
updated busybox from the app.
Verified backups.
Tried 3 different versions of TiBu.
Batch restore.
Single app restore.
Unchecked restore to SD card option.
All settings default.
All setting matching.
Phone restarts.
Delete and re-backup with TiBu.
More that I am missing.
Has anyone else had this problem?
What I am doing wrong?
Thanks.
Update the busybox (problems checkbox) and it should be fine.

I've already tried updating it.
"Root Access => OK (BusyBox 1.16.0 from app)"
I am having the same problems as |OP|. Except mine don't flash back to the boot screen. TiBu just goes through the restore very quickly and looks like it skips over automatically restoring my apps.
I've tried updating busybox (no 1.16.0) and that does not help.

Good, I am not crazy.
I am going to try BusyBox Installer from the market and update my system to the most recent BusyBox.
Has anyone tried this yet?

Where did you put the busybox binary? That might be causing an issue. Also, if you used the version from the market it should be 1.18 or higher for the version.
I had this issue with Myn's ROM and updatign the busybox fixed it.

Busybox was installed into TiBu's app directory.
I will try putting 1.18 into my system directory tonight and report back.
Source backups were created with 1.18.
Target rom (myn) had 1.16 and an even older version in it's system directory.

I can confirm Titanium Backup is working on Warm TwoPointTwo, so there's gotta be something else wrong with the OP's method.
I didn't flash Titanium Backup from a .zip, I just grabbed it from the Market.
Could that have made a difference?

The market version and installing from my backed up .apk still caused the restarts.
Maybe it was because I used version 1.18 of busybox but tried to restore using the version that was installed in myn's rom.
Either way, updating busybox was able to fix it and I am now enjoying myn's awesomeness rom with all of my backups.

Yay for it working!
Where did you get busybox from? did you use the installer from the market or using the "got problems?" thingamabob from titanium backup.
Not that I need to know, but since other's have had this problem, it'd be nice for them to know where you got busybox from.
EDIT: and yes, myn is awesome.

[Q] og incredible on 2.3.4(s-on)bloatware help

followed the tutorial for the unrevoked rooting method..(mad props to all involved)
okay so my question is, im on the stock rom(2.3.4) rooted with HBOOT.92 and obviously have root acces, i want to get rid of a bunch of bloatware, vcast, app sharing ect ect.
in the past i had a htc eris and used root explorer and deleted all the bloat from the system/app folder and seemed to work flawless. i tried that but they are still there, then used titanium pro to uninstall them but no go, then i created a filter name "bloat" and melted it. well now the app are uninstalled but still are in my apps screen. i then tried to use root explorer again and they are not to be found in the system/app folder, i have a backup so io am not worried.
any suggestions on how to get rid of these bloatware, or could you recommend a rom low on memory usage that is close to stock rom, or maybe some nice visualized roms that are not to big on the memory.
This might sound obvious but did you reboot after deleting the apps?

I had this happen when 2.3 first came out, and I went to delete the apps and they'd just reappear on reboot. Installing busybox fixed my issue then.
Good luck!
well i think i may have figured it out, used this app System App remover, couldn't uninstall anything but disabled all the stuff i wanted to, then used root explorer to delete apk's in system/app.
installed busy box but didn't notice anything different.
Just flash a new rom. If you want something like stock or better I suggest any rom by Heyitslou, skyraider, or newtoroot sense 3.0 or lower.

you don't need to do any of that.
Using root explorer:
Delete the .apk files from BOTH system/app AND data/app.
Reboot into recovery.
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Reboot
Be patient as your phone rebuilds the cache and dalvik cache. Once you get to the unlock screen, wait another minute or two.
enjoy.

Help - can't get sufficient SU priviledges for TiBu

One of my main reasons for rooting is now not working any longer - Titanium backup. It used to work perfectly fine but.....
After the small incremental ICS update that came in a few days ago I of course lost root.
I re-rooted...and the first thing I noticed was that TiBu gave an error message about insufficient SU priviledges.
I re-rooted and SuperUser gave TiBu access as per normal..but the issue persisted.
I can backup...but when trying to restore ANYTHING it just hangs.
I factory-reset...re-installed SU and TiBu...issue still there.
Not sure what to do.
Has anyone who also got the latest small ICS update been able to restore apps from TiBu since then or could you try and let me know?
That would at least rule out the possiblity that something came in with that update that breaks the root process.
Update:
I even installed an old version of TiBu just in case, for any reason, the new TiBu version fro 5/27 was the culprit - but no, the same issue.
So its either;
a) The new, small ICS update broke something when using ZN's easy-root script, or
b) my tablet is fubar'd to the point that a factory reset can't get me to place where I can root and get the access priviledges needed for TiBu.
ANY thoughts?
note: i am rooted using ZN's easy-root script...is there any chance that with this new ICS update/patch something came in that is not giving sufficient SU priviliedges using that script?
And/or is there an alternative root process I can use to see if that works better?

Did you try reinstalling busy box? If that's not working TiBu won't work. Not sure if it directly affects SU or not, but try installing it and updating binary in SU settings.

I had a similar issue. Manually updating SU binaries, then Ti did a fix and rebooted. Working fine now.

Rooted, running andi bones.
it use to work fine, now I restore some backups but none cure the problem.
I have tried factory reset, and every backup I have and the problem is still there.
OK, I ended up going back to stock and installing the original rom I was running, now it's working, I think this got messed up when I tried UKB rom, and all my backups newer than stock would not take care of the problem.
Now I want to delete some of the backups and save a new backup, but I have not found the location of the backup files.

If you want help you've got to give us info. What recovery are you using? For twrp there is a folder on your sd card called twrp. I don't remember the name for the cwm folder because I haven't used it for a long time. I've never used 4ext, so if you are on that you'll have to wait for someone else's input.

titanium backup insufficient storage error help

the solutions posted seem outdated or didn't work. backing up files worked great until today. I have over 10gb free space. tried also clearing and reinstalling. any help would be appreciated. I'm on paranoid android an this just started when I tried to backup additional apps today
I wonder if TiBU isn't updated to 4.3 or not fully compatible.

it worked great until today so that isn't it. i had installed 3 apps today wanted to update my backup as i usually do here and there and am getting that error. it had been great until that point. nothing that would change to cause the error as best as i can tell
For me it hasn't worked since day 1 of my nexus 7 it works on my galaxy nexus 4.2.2 so im guessing its a 4.3 issue.

You just have to go into TiBu preferences and back up a few places on where you store your backups. Worked for me this morning. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

helium seems to get stuck about 3/4 of the way through. no luck at all with these backup programs
Here is how I fixed it go into TB preferences > Backup Folder Location
1. Next hit Back button till you are in the root folder of your device "/" ( this at the top)
2. Next click sdcard
3. Then click on the "Titanium Backup" folder. Top should say "/sdcard/ Titanium Backup"
4 . Then click use this folder
I have had the problem before as well. I suspect it is related to an old restore, but not sure. This always fixes it for me:
1. Unistall the app
2. Using Root Explorer go to System/Data/app-lib
3. Find and delete all references to the app you deleted
4. Open the Play store and re-install.
This can be done without uninstalling. When you navigate to app-lib you'll find multiple versions of the app mentioned. You keep only one (delete any duplicates), then go to System/ Data /Dalvik-cache and delete the same duplicates (if you kept -2 in app-lib, keep -2 in Dalvik). Wiping dalvik in recovery won't work. It regenerates at re-boot with the dups at least it did for me).
I have had success with both methods, but find the 1st method always works & the 2nd method does not, as it is easy to miss a copy in dalvik. The Dalvik versions are deleted for you with the uninstall so I find it simpler.
I spent weeks looking for this solution a while back for my GNex so I hope I've saved you a headache or two.

TiBu wants a new file path for backup.

This is basically how I fixed the problem on my N4 and N10 as well. Basically, you're backing up to the same location, it's just that TiBu doesn't like the old file path (for me, it was: /storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup) and wants you to use a different one (for me, it is: /storage/sdcard0/TitaniumBackup).

This was the ticket for me. After deleting cache and data, looking for odex files, reinstalling from play store. I had tried changing path to start but I still chose emulated to a different location so it still didnt work lol.
Wish I had seen this thread 1st, thank-you for posting, backups working again I can get on with life.

+1 to this solution. I had the same problem using TiBu when I tried to backup my apps to prep for a switch from CM10.2 to Paranoid Android.
Thank goodness for TiBu's update.zip feature, makes jumping between ROMs much less of a pain.

So glad I found this thread, it works! Thank you
I have had the same problem since moving from CM 10.1 to CM 10.2. Seems my super su also wants to update binaries after every nightly flash. Can't update binaries normal way so I flash them in TWRP. After the supersu flash, my titanium backup works perfectly.
I've tried everything except re flashing the phone. Nothing at all works, and I'm at the end of my rope. EDIT: Here's the only thing that fixed it! Downloaded SuperSU, allowed it to boot into recovery to update the binary, and now TIBU works fine! That was the ONLY solution that worked.

That was also what I ultimately need to do to run a back up. Thanks! :good:
