I had rooted/flashed my phone for the first time months ago, and by chance, picked a kernel that worked with the ROM (AOKP 4.2.1)
Decided I wanted a more stable rom so yesterday I reflashed the RUU to go back to Stock Sense, and now I've unlocked the bootloader.
Upon a little reading

The RythmicRom v1.4 seems to be a good/stable mod without frills that suits my needs.

I'm wondering what Kernel to flash first...
Thanks in advance.
For rhythmicrom, I think it has the kernel in the zip. SuperSick kernel would work for it as well, I believe.

I really like being rooted and I used cyanogenmod 7 release candidate for at least a week and I missed stock so I flashed it back. I really don't know much about kernels, so I was wondering if a custom kernel would work on the stock Rom and change much of it?
Yes. You need a Sense based kernel.

I would recommend Lou's #8 or Chads, both run great on stock roms.
This one is nice and stable

Can you just mix and match a kernel with a custom ROM? Or how do I know if they are compatible, without nandroid+trial+error.
I was using stock/rooted jellybean ROM + franco kernel. I just flashed AOKP which includes it's own kernel (tuna-faux), but want to go back to franco.
Thanks for the help. I did try searching but did not find this information.
as long as the kernel supports the android version (4.0.4 or 4.1.1, etc) of the rom you are on, you're fine.

And are they backwards compatible? Can I use a 4.1.1 kernel with a 4.0.4 ROM?
Thanks for the reply!

No, you can't. Stay on the same version.

Trial and error I'm afraid. I had AOKP and flashed Franco on top and it broke a couple minor things, like Settings - Storage would FC every time with this combination. So I assumed there is a reason AOKP came with tuna-faux, it was tested on it and made for it.
aokp and cyanogen come with a kernel for their code, i think you can't flash other kernel

Hey guys, running paranoid 2.53 on my Verizon nexus. I have read all the stories before getting the phone that batt life is not great. Agreed. So I wanted to play around as I have never changed kernels before.
One thing I was wondering is what type of kernel is included in this ROM. Another thing is I got the Franco kernel updater. I have been reading for days on xda and such what a kernel does, how, why and such but I haven't found any answers regarding Franco or lean kernel w pa 2.53. Can I just DL and flash right from the app or is there a process to get a new kernel and which do u guys prefer. I want battery life over perf but I don't want a sluggish phone. Is there also a way to backup my stock kernel other than a complete nandroid. Would I backup boot and the system image. Im using twrp 2321
Thanks for any Advice and thoughts

Hey... I installed a custom rom which required installing custom kernel. It all went as expected but the OS doesn't start... It kept on showing the welcome screen and then system hangs. Kindly Provide me with the custom kernel for my Galaxy s2 - T989
I tried installing a different rom but same issue again. Kindly help

XDA sr member Rushing came up with the most stable rom for this phone I have ever used called Shadow ROM v 1.5 you can search the forums here for more info, there's even a YouTube video from Galaxys2root that features it. It is a super light weight rom that has long battery life and tweaks to the stock kernel. its incredibly stable as it's based off the stock T Mobile rom, but it's deoxed and debloated. Currently only runs version 4.1.2 but would highly recommended this rom. 666 is the evil version, 1000 is the clean version that keeps all the stock boot animations and sounds

Hello.
My friend asked me to reflash his Desire Z, so I'm looking for some stable daily ROM (ICS or higher).
For now I chosen:
MIUI 4.2.28 multi
AOSP 4.2.2 Jelly Baby (really not sure about this ROM)
Sensei 1.3.0
Sabsa Prime v15
any other tips?
Thanks
Normally best dd ROM questions are not to be asked, but I assume sense you are doing this for a friend you won't easily be able to flash a bunch and try them out as what is normally suggested

You will find a list of all ROMs here, many will say the most stable and fastest ROMs will be gingerbread based as that's as far as HTC brought this device. But many 4.x ROMs are quite nice for dds
Best recommendation is to flash a couple of the "more popular" ROMs and make nandroid of each and place on SD card, then instruct your friend how to easily change between them so s/he can decide for themselves what is best

Thanks for reply.
I know that it's not possible to say one ROM, but on the other hands always exist ROM which can't be marked as very stable (e.g. KitKats build now)
I really missed your list, thanks for info
(Because I already found some list, but it wasn't updated for a long time)
Anyway thanks for you work
BTW the first 3 ROMs has same link in your list
