Wondering how this new app is working for Note 2 users. The camera is very important to me so seriously wanting to get the most out of mine and this new app from the CyanogenMod team promises a lot.
Currently, I am running CM 10.1 and the camera seems to have only one obvious problem. If I close down the camera then open it back up sometimes the screen is completely black and I have to terminate the app and reopen to regain the camera.
And also, I read that this camera had, what is for me the most important functionality of all, spot metering. I don't see it anywhere I the various menus. Has anyone else found it?
Please report back how this camera is doing on your Note 2.
Edit: Focal app is no longer working on my Note 2. FC then will not restart. Stock camera will also not start while Focal is FCing. Stock remains broken after Focal is uninstalled. Running CM 10.1 July 24 2013 Nightly t0ltetmo

Android 4.1.2 works very well. I installed latest cyongenmod 10 alpha 2 on my samsung wonder device. Some issues;
taking pictures constantly shifting panorama of the screen and green striped screen and having.
freezes the camera is required in some programs and still having trouble with the green screen.
google maps plug-ins, but they did not set my link. tried to establish a "not compatible with your country" I got an error like this.
fm radio feature would be nice to have but not absolutely necessary.
the camera did not have any problems with the previous version of cm10. How can I solve problems, especially with the camera?

CM10 works REALLY well considering it's only at alpha 2 release....as future releases appear, the bugs will gradually disappear. On CM9, the camera bugs weren't fixed til alpha 7 or later (but they WERE fixed). If camera is that important for your needs, I'd advise that you go back to CM9 and wait until CM10 is more "mature". As far as radio is concerned, AFAIK there is no support for it in either CM9 or CM10 ROMs..... no matter who designed/produced them. There is a thread somewhere here on XDA about an app called SPIRIT FM that some people have had success with....

Just thought I'd share this with y'all, not mine BTW. Few bugs.

Can you describe what bug is present on this focal for our gnex?
Doesn't work for me. Missing a lib file?
Is the usual that affects everyone I think. Like trying to go to panorama crashes the app, video seems to be flaky. The rest seems good for the most part.
I don't think you need any libs, I installed it myself like a normal app. I'm on paranoid android 3.69 (I think) toroplus and fancy kernel.

have you been allowed to share this? you said this wasn't yours... and it still has bugs... maybe the developers don't want to share their unfinished work...
anyway tested it... i could open it with no force close but it didn't work well it could take photos but did 3 shots at a time and run slowly when saving or using functions
wait for the final version
i'm using GNex with CM10.1 28/07 nightly

It's in the git and able to be compiled, it's shareable
Just out of curiosity, are you going to keep this updated with new releases/updates of the app?

This is CyanogenMod's new camera app for CM 10.2 called Focal. It's open source so of course you aloud to share it, you can modify it or incorporate it into your own rom to. Alot of rom's use CM as a base because it's open source. Can't wait for Focal to be stable & bug free, it will be amazing
So far the bugs I've noticed are panorama FCs the app and video is very buggy like others have said. Also, when video is buggy, it makes the gallery very unstable and I've had to FC it to get it working again. Lastly, when I open Focal initially, it opens just fine, but any subsequent opening just shows a black screen unless I FC the app first and that doesn't always work. And it keeps the soft keys in landscape position. It does seem to shoot faster than the stock camera app and even the Moto X's camera app and has more options than both...just need to have all the bugs ironed out and I think it will be a very good app.
Yeah cm rocks if it's completed it will surely replace my stock camera
There is no quick access to the gallery, is there?

Greetings All!
I tried searching the forums for this, but the closest answer I could find was (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916771) - and I'm still confused.
I have a rooted Note II running a stable official Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 with Android 4.2.2.
My question is in regards to the stock camera for the Note II. I really liked that application versus the camera app by Cyanogenmod. I was wondering if there was anyway to overwrite the new camera app for the stock one.
Here's what I've tried so far:
1. I have access to another Note II (a friend of mine's) and I tried backing up the Gallery.apk (and the SamsungCamera.apk (or something like that)) and sending it over to be installed on my phone. I turned off verify apps, turned on Unkown sources, froze Cyanogenmod's gallery app, and then tried installing the gallery.apk, but to no avail. I also tried installing SamsungCamera.apk. I also tried making a backup of cyan's gallery app, uninstalling it, then installing the apks. The error I always get is "Application not Installed."
I have the apks that I'm trying to install uploaded to my Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uqub4hgp80yv8i1/lZEpewNM7O
I haven't yet tried to use the adb command to install the app. Could this make a difference?
Thanks so much in advance. If this question has already been posted, I'm sorry, but would appreciate a link pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks Again!
By stock camera you mean stock camera app provided by samsung's touchwiz? If yes, from what I know it's not yet possible or not possible. As CyanogenMod and Samsung's stock ROM has different frameworks.
It might be possible if someone can port it.

Sorry, but does this also go for the messaging app (the framework issue)?
Thanks!

I've been running Cyanogenmod on varied devices for maybe 3 years now. Wife had it on her original HTC EVO, I've put it on multiple co-worker phones, and I have two HP Touchpads with it for around 2 years. I love it.
However, Cyanogen doesn't have the awesome camera that the native Samsung app has. I have tested over 5 top rated Camera apps from Google Play (Pro HD, Camera MX, Cymera, etc) and none touch the ease, usability, features and quality of the native Samsung app. The "Best Face" & "HDR" are freaking awesome. I haven't seen any app that can touch those two, especially the HDR quality. The 'low light' feature is awesome too, but I didn't test to see if other apps offer the same.
l'd love to donate some change if someone could work out a proper port to Galaxy devices. I can't really goto Cyanogenmod & use the associated bland camera app. With a new baby @ home, that best face is a godsend. The HDR has really popped bunches of our pictures too.

Agreed.
I installed Beanstock (4.3) and love it except...I'm missing the features of the stock camera app, most specifically HDR and low light. Would love to have these features back and would donate as well if someone could help port it.
i also want stock samsung camera i have tested many camera apps but none of them can match samsung camera.
hope someone can help us or guide us
I would also second this! Low light and hdr are by far the best. I NEED an alternative to the stock cyanogenmod but I have fallen short on every search. I would galdly contribute to a fund for a solid camera app. Does anyone running CM have any suggestions for a camera app.
if i wanted to port the touchwiz framework so the samsung camera app will function properly, how would I go about doing this? is there a ton of different files that would need handpicked or is there a folder or some type of label that would mean it goes with the touchwiz framework? or would this take a considerable amount of work i.e. more than one afternoon...
the camera on cyanogenmod was the reason I went back to stock because the samsung camera just takes amazing pictures. the CM camera is a little more grainy and does not focus as well.
hello - "bumping"
any solution found yet?
I am currently running CyanogenMod 11 (M3) for t-mobile. I really need help fixing my camera. I was having problems with my camera earlier but now it is constantly force closing. Just recently the camera updated to Google camera and I was hoping the force would not occur any more, but now it's even worse. If any ideas how to fix PLEASE tell me because I have many needs for the camera. This how the problem occurs: I try to take a picture and it will take it then it will freeze and I have to kill the app. Then I try to restart the app but I get an "Camera error: cannot connect to the camera." The problem was really bad after I flashed the ROM so I deleted that camera and flashed a "better" one. I try to use the other features of this updated Google camera but none of them work such as: lens blur, panorama or photo sphere . I would really love having these features working or even taking regular pictures without any force closes. I have to use the camera everyday so please help as soon as possible. Please anyone help me solve this problem!!!! (Current Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999)
Thanks for the help in advance!!!!
Go back to stock..
I tried the new Google camera on C-ROM and had the same problem. Like the previous poster said, go back to CM stock camera.

If you really want to stick with CM 11, maybe try flashing Ktoonsez's kernel. I've been having this camera issue (that's only temporarily fixed if I reboot) for a while, but yesterday I flashed KT747 and it's been working since (knock on wood).
Hi! I am currently running the unofficial Lollipop ROM in my Note 2 and I am very happy with it. However, the camera apk is not good. I miss the several adjustments from the samsung camera apk I had for my Note 2 when running kit kat. Does anyone have the note 2 camera apk from kit kat 4.4.4? Thanks!!!
Same thing with me (but for different reasons).
My camera takes a pic, but it takes ridiculous long to appear in the gallery, so the camera blocks. I need a second camera app.
Another Camera
Check here guys might be what ya'll need.

I still use this camera on my Note2.
Enjoy...:good:
Camera apk
I'm in the same boat with those that are not fond of the camera that comes with the unofficial lollipop roms. I tried installing this apk, but it did not work. I get the app cannot be installed error message. Are there special instructions that I should be following? I would really love a different camera on these roms.
Thanks
That's strange... I have the stock CM12 camera app working perfectly... Well, with one exception: I can't select the flash, so... no flash... so, ... well... I guess that's ... not perfect.
