Hi guys,
Was wondering if anyone knows how to remap the buttons on the Note II. I have looked in a few Galaxy S3 forums to not much help.
What i'm trying to do is have the Menu button for recent apps, and long press it for the menu. Maybe hold down the home key for Google voice search or something as we all know how good S-Voice is. Not.
So any ideas? I found where all the data is in /system/usr/keylayout ... cant see 'recent' or something similar in any of those files but there is various 'HOME' and 'MENU' but im not sure which to change.
Other information
ROM: Android Revolution HD (4.1.1)
GT:N1700
ROOTED
Cheers

Hi, as far as i know the feature to remap the soft keys is only possible with a Custom ROM, but to remap the home button i know how to do that if your interested.
You can remap them with launchers, nova launcher for example.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
My home button doesn't take me to the home page.

I haven't tried this myself, but can you swap the key numbers in Generic.kl (/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl) to get what you want?
has anyone looked into this yet? I think many people, especially coming from the Gnex would like to remap
Any figure this out yet?
I'd like to make make long pressing back button activate recent apps, and long pressing home button activate the multitask side bar on my Galaxy Note 2.
I know Nova Launcher can do it, but I'm using Go Launcher which I don't think has that feature.

Yes, I also hear Apex can do it too. Problem is I've finally gotten my phone customized the way I like, and Go Launcher is a big part it that. So I don't want to give it up. Was hoping there's another way to remap the buttons.

Thanks for the link. Wanted to comment on that thread and ask for a custom mod for the settings I want, but unfortunately xda won't let me post in development threads because I have less than 10 comments. Kinda annoying.

Lol. will do. thx for the help.
remapping
I would like to nulify my back button on my Samsung Note II. If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Currently double-clicking the home button starts S-Voice, which in my opinion has poor recognition. Is it possible to change the double-tap default to Google Now voice search?
You can use simplistic framework mod to assign any app for double click home button. ....... from original Android development thread
Other ways.. long press menu button for Google now. ..why should you use home button?
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
I'm using the tiKtaK GPE ROM and I can't find any Recent Apps list. In CM 10.2 I could long press the home key and bring up the list. In this ROM, it brings up Google Now if I long press home. Is this standard on 4.4.2, or is recent apps secretly hidden and I can't find it? Thanks.

me too , anyone can Disable Home button to laucnh pullup.
This thread is kind of old but just so anyone searching knows... long press home screen, go to home screen settings, then uncheck "My Pullup"
Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the home button trigger for pullup from fakejap? I would like to retain the pulling up action trigger only.
On stock self deodexed 4.4.2 ROM note 2 with s5 launcher by e team. Pullup works perfectly as does the launcher just that I would like to disable one of the 2 triggers.

Thank You! I was looking for this.. :good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
Let me start off by saying that this rom is so amazing. Brought back my galaxy grand duos to life. Huge difference from stock 4.2.2!!
One issue I noticed though: Press & hold home button activates recent apps AND now on tap at the same time!

and the question/problem is?
Like I said, press and hold home button is assigned for both recent app switcher AND now on tap. Which makes using now on tap impossible.

Make another 2 post and you'll be able to post/ask in the rom thread. You may have a better answer there than here, as Im not using the rom, so Im not able to provide better solution than this.
In cm12.1 under setting, there's button tab which have an option to set the button assign. See if your rom have the same option.
Edited: I just found this post, will gibe you the answer for your question.

Thanks, that was helpful.
AOSP does not have an option to change buttons. I love AOSP simplicity but the menu button is pretty useless on marshmallow. I'm trying to figure out a way to make it function as a recent app switcher instead.

I believe I read it in the aosp 6.0 thread about disabling the now on tap function, in Google setting I think. Check the link I gave, probably couple post before or after it.
