My top speaker (near the camera) is louder than the bottom one. Is anyone experiencing the same thing? Maybe the bottom speaker is quieter because the USB port is sharing the same space.
Yeah it seems slightly quieter. Hard to notice unless you look for it.
anybody else?
:fingers-crossed:
I just realized this as well while listening to some music. Is it normal though?
Nexus 7 FLO
hopefully that is normal. I wonder if the top speaker is one large unit, while the bottom speaker is 2 smaller units split by the USB port in the center. i guess we'll know once someone opens it up.
Edit: ifixit already opened it up.

The 2 oval things at the far left and right are the speakers. Left one is the bottom speaker (near USB port), right is the top speaker.

No, the speakers are kind of weird. For the top speaker there is a single speaker in the middle of the perforated back.
But for the bottom speaker, the speaker is off to the left side of charging port. I can't even tell for certain if the sound is able to come out the other side do to the USB port being in the middle and those speaker holes may just be there for aesthetics.
Just is just my interpretation from the ifixit tear down.

I bet the speaker placement has something to do with the simulated surround sound...

I believe it is because the opening is bigger on the top than on the bottom. Covering up part of the top speaker opening seems to prove that.

NVM I've come to the conclusion too quick. It is still louder on the top.

Hi. Problem: I had the headset inside, put it out (was not an original, with adapter 3.5mm to 2.5mm). No sound. So I read that the contact in the headphone jack is stuck.Where is the contact which is clamped ? I already tried it with a nail one hour, wihtout succses. or how can I test whether the defect in outdoor speakers? "It is urgent, thank you
B.R. Michal
it could be your speaker as well. that is what happened to mine
but it could be your jack. from memory, put in the adaptor and pull it out fast a few times to see if it is the adaptor.
i opened ma mobile and see the jack .. but which contacts should contact each other so i hera speaker?
without jack (hedphones) must be short (conected) pin 2 - 4
and pin 3 - 5 (see my send picture)

Sorry man, you have to open your device like what i did me to. it tooked for me 2 minutes to fix that problem
But be carefull.
if don't know how to open your device, i advice you to not to do it.
ask an experienced hands to heal your Prophet
after opening your device, look at the jack, you will see it covered, its actually covered by a lil plastic cover that you can pop off with a small screw driver. the jack will be like this

when you unplug the earphones, the metal parts shown in the red circle on the photo must be connected.
when you put in the earphones the metal parts must be disconnected.
that's all
Good luck to all of you.

Very cool, interresting spring-in cylinder near the hinge. Is that the source of the weak hinge woes? (I actually have no problem with the hinge =))
We see, that it HAS spring... Wtf happened to it?
ha! so the hinge is actually spring loaded? Anybody think the "hinge problem" can be fixed by just using a tighter spring?
good thing i held off on buying it. whoever said the hinge works mainly on gravity is just spewing BS...
Doesn't the fact that the spring is at right angles to the opening direction of the phone mean it's not contributing towards the actual opening/closing ? And perhaps it's just a spring-loaded thing to release the clips to take the phone apart ? I could be way off though.
Couldn't that spring be like part of the antenna?
One of my previous phones also had a coil antenna like that inside.
I must agree that it looks like it's part of the hinge, but then again it also looks like it's not directly connected to it.
It doesn't looks like 'a spring' to me... more like an antenna.

You can open your keyboard and see a lift in that place, I don't think that it's antenna
Its a spring for the hinge, if you move the top half of the phone vertical downwards (with respect to the phone and not the ground, you'll be moving the top half parallell to the ground considering the phone is on a flat surface) while holding the bottom fixed you can feel the spring give slightly.
I dont know what it is but if it is spring for hinge mechanism it seems to be broken. At the first picture the device is closed. At the second one it is open. Spring is the same, not shorter or longer.
So I guess that it dont work?

Like I suggested earlier, the spring is at right-angles to the direction of opening. So I'm not suprised it doesn't change.
It is a spring to govern the hinge. See this thread on the G2 forums, which explains how to modify your hinge if it seems too loose !

cool.. only thing that i hate about this phone is its slide type..
I just wanted to clarify that not all the holes on the speaker grill are completely machined. Is this the case with you guys and gals? On the top about 60% of them are drilled all the way thru while the rest are made to look like they are. The bottom is about 50% drilled all the way thru.

mine looks to be about the same
The speakers are only on the left half of the grills. The holes on the right half are to make it look symmetrical.
Haha I didn't even notice

Mine is exactly the same as you described, but I'm not having any issues with hearing people when on the phone?
Is this cause enough to return the device do you think and exchange?
If the holes on the speaker grill are blocked, you can pierce them with a sharp pointed instrument carefully to open them up.

But from other Users its noticable that their "holes" are all the way open and nothing is blocked.
the below picture shows that speaker grill holes are completely drilled on top. not like half way done.

They are all machined, just some of them are machined all the way through.
Half of the holes are "blind."

Maybe I'm being over sensitive but I've noticed 2 issues:
1. I came from the s7 edge & the home button was very stiff and had a satisfying "click" the note 7 button seems pretty squishy in comparison.
2. My S-pen seems to kind of hang out at a slight angle when in the phone. Like, instead of continuing the straight line of the bottom of the phone it kind of angles slightly downward toward the corner.

My button seems very sturdy/click. As for the stylus, seems normal, maybe very very slightly out. But not bothersome.

Actually looking again, seems flush mostly
It is flush for the most part but it does kind of have a downward slope and the button isn't super soft but it does have kind of a sweet spot to it and it is definitely not as stiff as the s7 edge. I'm just extremely skittish because I had a ton of issues with the note 5 and I don't want a repeat of that experience.
Hi Team XDA,
My first post... hope it's in the correct board, please be gentle ?
I've just replaced the near-dead battery in my M8. The amount of tape and glue surprised me, but I got there in the end with a heat gun, razor blade and spudger, oh and a new display after the original cracked on the way out. It's been a learning process!
All went back together nicely and my M8 now holds a good charge.
The problem:
No audio at all via the top (earpiece) speaker. As a workaround I can select speaker phone which uses the bottom speaker, but that's not ideal.
Solutions tried so far:
Factory reset.
New speaker installed. I struggled to work out which way round this went, after foolishly failing to note the orientation when I removed it, but think I've got it correctly aligned.
Suspected issue:
When I first opened the case, one of the small gold spring contacts (earthing fingers?) fell out.
I can see where this has come from. It's from the daughterboard, on the opposite side, but close to where the speaker makes contact. In the picture below it's the left-right mounted gold contact on the right side of the board, just above the square hole.

Another photo showing the reverse side of the PCB, with the speaker contact points top left, either side of the 2 cutouts.
Photo of replacement speaker.
I'm thinking of re-attaching the gold spring contact with conductive epoxy. If that's doesn't work, I was going to try another new speaker as they're fairly cheap and easy to come by.
Any thoughts from you guys? Any suggestions greatly received, thanks.
New speaker fitted, spring / earth contact reattached.
Both channels working... until I put the metal case back on, then the fault returned, no left (top) audio. Opened up again, can't get the top speaker to work.
I tried a voice call using the hands free set that came with the phone. Detects ok when plugged in, but no mic function, the other side can't hear me.
In to the "spares" drawer it goes.
