Ok, so I know there are loads of 'guides' on how to get your game data moved across to a USB device, and believe me when I say I've tried them all. They all seem to have different methods/information contained in them. Nothing is working and I need some help before my OUYA takes flying lessons...
- I have an 80GB USB HDD with a 40GB NTFS partition and a 2nd EXT4 partition (32GB).
- I've got the Play Store installed, plus some games from it, and want to move the gama data from Android/data and Android/obb to the HDD to free up my console's internal memory.
- OUYA 'sees' the NTFS partition of the HDD under Settings/Storage, but not the EXT4 (is this normal?)
- I'd REALLY appreciate it if someone could take the time to write a simple step by step guide for me (and I'm sure others will appreciate it too) to help me accomplish this, explaining the process from the ground up, what apps to use etc.
Just so you know, here's what I already tried:
- USB OTG Helper (mounted the NTFS partition to some obscure location on internal memory???)
- FolderMount (says it's moved data to the HDD, but when I browse the drive there's nothing there)
- Links2SD (using the guide posted here on XDA - mount script kept telling me there was no 2nd partition (which is BS) and again, nothing showing up on HDD if I browse it.
Am I being incredibly stupid or just missing something really obvious? Or did OUYA 'break' these methods with the last update?
Any help greatly needed and appreciated!

Hey guys, Ive originally posted this elsewhere but got no answers.
When i connect my wildfire to my laptop and press "Turn on USB storage" my phone instantly reboots.
After many hours of research I have come to the conclusion that its because i have system apps on the SD card and when i try to connect the phone to the laptop it wants access to the SD card which is already used so it causes it to restart as it mounts the SD card.
Correct me if im wrong as i am far from knowledgable on this subject!
Anyway to move the system apps to the internal storage so i can connect because it means i cant change roms or add music etc.
Thanks in advance!
There are apps in the store that can dual mount the sd card. Should solve it if that's what is causing the problem.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
actually it can be noob question instead of constructive reply, but why the hell do you have system apps on sdcard, especially one which can cause what you said??
system partition and apps are not called system only for funyes, you can try to move some and watch if it works or what will happen, but i cant find any reason to do so...
reducing the amount of data (which actually means reducing size of your rom) on /system partition makes sense when you want to use custommtd for more space on /data partition for additional apps, what is usually done to use minimally or completely avoid app2sd(logic says it should also be slower, than having it in phone memory)
btw this way i am running cm7(150mb /system 10mb /cache and the rest about 300mb for /data) and erwins cm9(190 10 cca 260) and without few games i woudnt even need app2sd...
just my opinion and experience
I think they are on the sd card anyway because when I unmount it in the settings the phone also goes into a reboot
Solved! Downloaded the Dual mount widget from the play store and its solved the problem!
Many thanks!
i was wondering, when we can get ASOP/AKOP or CM9/10 we can re-partition the glide to have only system partition and the extranal sd card can act as the internal one. we all know that the 8GB is not enough, especially with 2gb system and 6gb sd card - i have 2gb in system and 4gb in sd card - but if we can combine it to full partition then it will be more then enough as a basic install space - cos allot of apps can be moved to sd card and leave little room on the system partition.
It's already possible to change the mount points so that your physical sd card is mounted as /sdcard, and the internal storage takes its place at /sdcard/external_sd. It's a quick vold.fstab edit. You can see my post about it here, with a pre-modified file and a backup of the original.
You'll need root and busybox (or some form of file explorer with root permissions) to copy the file over, but it's pretty straightforward. As for repartitioning the internal storage to be used for /data, I've got no clue how to do that, but this is a reasonable enough workaround.
i know about that workaround but still there some side effects to it, like the usb mounting in the PC.
still i think its doable if creating aosp from source with cross with our ics source from samsung..
maybe a more knowledgeable dev can shed some light on the subject.
Changing the actual partitioning isn't something that's commonly done, as it can wreck compatibility with roms (including official updates) that expect things a certain way. The only issue in ICS with the vold.fstab edit is the internal memory isn't mounted on the phone at boot, you have to manually mount it any time you reboot. MTP file transfers work just fine (with your physical sdcard being labeled Phone and the internal labeled Card) as does the legacy USB Mass Storage mode.
If you really want to mess with it, look into partition editing using parted. This can go very very wrong, and may not work at all, so proceed with caution.
i see thanks for the info
Ok So i got the apps to sd to work putting my games from my ouya but for some reason cant Save any files on That drive or move any files like music to the sdext2 drive through any file manager but it Is freeing up space on my ouya internal drive when i Transfer games to it from Apps to sd so is there any way to put ouya games and music/movies on sdext2 ? Am I missing something.?
as for my idea if I have a USB hub attached I can use the USB drive that shows up as ext2 as well as another USB drive that just shows as usbdrive like any other drive would before the mod so I don't ever have to pull either drive.. What if there was a way to make a 3rd USB drive show up as usbdrive2 is this possible ? I would find this very handy being able to transfer from USB to USB drive if ever needed
thank you for reading and I hope my post was clear enough
Title says it all. Is there any way to disable this? I'm using StickMount on a rooted FTV and every time it restarts for any reason the USB detection dialog pops up asking if you want to format the USB storage (my drive is NTFS so the native USB storage support can't read it, hence it wants to reformat it).
Obviously this makes me rather nervous... I just want to disable the dialog (or whatever it would take to stop it from popping up - I don't want or need the horribly limited built in support).
I use a hub to get around this issue, but it works to my advantage: I can relocate FTV apps to the FAT32 USB. Or you can make a small FAT32 partition in your USB and the rest is NTFS to make FTV happy.

Really strange things happen here.
When I put my 64gb sandisk stick into fireTV and let him format it, there will be right problems with FolderMount. For example FolderMount can not create a folder on the exStorage. So I decide to format it with hp storage format tool to a FAT32 64gb stick.
No the pop-up comes again but stickmount and FolderMount work fine again.
Is there no way to disable this stupid dialog?
Greetings by I_did_it_just_tmrrow
EDIT: MySolution
I format my stick into 2 partitions.
First you need to create one (small or big partition, like you need it) in fat32.
The rest into none or raw, but just not fat32.
Then put into you AFTV and let him create his ****.
Then back into a linux based lapto/pc and start gparted or your fav partition tool.
Make the rest to an secend fat32 partition.
Put into it again and mount stickmount the hole stick.
You should get sda1 & sda2.
One is controlled by your aftv, the secend is yours.
Now you can use apps like FolderMount and make mounts like puttin data/media/obb -> to your own (mostly it is sda2) stick partition. Works nice in my case.
How to format SD Card 500gig - 2tb.
It appears the OS times out trying (suspect resource constraint)
I tried externally via USB ADB split partition half internal half storage
(this worked until a reboot after which the partitions could not be seen).
I get frustrated and give up for a few months but keep coming back.
I no longer recall the ADB commands to manually format to try setting it as a single partition.
There has to be a better way to do this... help plz

Bro this forum is for Z2 play, go search somewhere else about your sd card
Yes I have the Moto Z2 Play
Yes I have the Moto Z2 Play
If you check the specs it can support up too a 2tb memory card... just trying to get a quarter of that to work.

The specs on the Motorola website have a footnote next to the 2TB designation which states:
"†† MicroSD card sold separately. Content with DRM restrictions may not be able to be moved to the card. 200 GB is the maximum capacity currently available."
I don't know why the spec says 2TB and the footnote says 200GB max capacity, but this could be the problem. Looks like Moto is saying that you can use up to a 2TB card but the device will only support 200GB of it. Confusing at best.
Sigh,...
At the time that web page and this device was released, the largest SD card on the market was 200gb. So only 200gb was available.
Android 7.1 supports up to 2TB, so theoretically that was/is the max.
I suspect the problems the OP, is having stems from the desire to have partitions and how, he/she is formatting these partitions.
Yes that is it.
Last time I tried I found the syntax to format and split the partition via USB dev mode(or similar), using ADB connection to format the card which worked fine, all 500gig was avail.
However, as suggested. I had chose to split the partition.
Half for internal use & half as private storage. I mounted the card via the ADB which works fine.
I enjoyed for more than a month. Until I rebooted. I had not and could not update the boot parameters so it did not see the partitions after the restart.
I had hoped to have found a way to use ADB Android install to remount after reboot. However I had not figured that out by the time I needed to restart.
Thus I am quite certain that 500gig can be used as I was able to do so before.
I lost my notes. I am hoping someone knows the command / syntax to format it again. I want try setting it up as a single partition (internal use). I think that will work.
For now I just want to use any way possible so can sync/load it up with media.
Thanks all

Still hoping someone knows the ABD function & parameters to format the 500gig for internal use.
Found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381709
I originallly used xda adb shell -> SM list-disks
Resource I located that speak to how I had set it up prior and show a different variation which may be the key (when I have time to test).
For now I want to share a few of the links and steps that should allow you to format an SD Card up too 2TB(for now).
############################
Note:
These look like or look very similar to how I did it the first time. I have not yet retried nor have I tested the following:
Which is why I am only show snippets(steps/code) from the links from others XDA threads / posts on the topic.
If you have had a good or bad experience with any of the following methods:
Please leave a comment for others sharing your experience. Sharing with good intentions, best of luck!

## 1st Option or Variation of how to:
############################
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/enable-adoptable-storage-t3615882
Adoptable Storage in MM:
adb shell
sm list-disks
sm list-volumes all
sm set-force-adoptable true
sm partition disk:179,128 private (replace with mixed what number you want to be external, ie: mixed 80 will leave 80% of card as external, 20% internal)
sm set-force-adoptable false
sm list-volumes all
NOTE:
The fourth command partitions your SD card, and may take 2-3 minutes (or longer) to complete, depending on the size of your card. plus make sure you have a reliable and fast SD Card.
Disconnect your phone from the USB cable and reboot it.
The reboot is crucial.
Your phone may (or may not) take a bit longer to boot this time.
Once your phone is fully booted, tap Settings > Developer Options and disable USB Debugging, clicking “OK” to any messages that may appear.
Go to Settings > Storage & USB and tap your SD card.
Tap the three dots in the upper-right corner and choose “Migrate data”.

## 2nd Option or Variation of how to:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/auto-formatting-sdcard-to-internal-t3583875
Auto-formatting SDCard to Internal and SDCard storage - this is the easiest way format your memory card, to use it as a internal memory and removable media at the same time!
What is required for this?
- Device with Android Marshmallow (6.0) and higher.
- USB Cable
- Enabled USB debug on your device
Just select the formatting mode and press any key!
Instruction:
1 - Connect your smartphone to the PC using your cable
2 - Enable USB debug on your smartphone
3 - Run "aftiss.cmd" (for Windows) or "aftiss.sh" (for Linux)
4 - Select the formatting mode
(1 - 25% Internal\75% SDCard, 2 - 50% Internal\50% SDCard, 3 - 75% Internal\25% SDCard, 4 - Custom)
5 - Press any key
6 - Be happy!

"How to split your card
WARNING: Before you do this, be sure to eject the card from the Settings/Storage & USB menu.
I found how to partition my SD card to give 8G as internal storage to which all apps that can be moved will be moved and leave ~20GB as portable storage to hold music, etc.
First, you need adb working, and your SD card inserted and formatted as portable.
$ adb shell sm list-disks adoptable
is my SD card that can be made adoptable, I want 90% as external SD:
$ adb shell sm partition mixed 90
Note: Your card may be listed with an underscore _ instead of an underscore, e.g. in which case, that is what you type.
This erases the entire SD card, and then gives me 90% as portable storage and the rest as adopted internal storage.
The partition table looks like this:
Number Start End Size File system Name Flags
1 1049kB 57.5GB 57.5GB fat32 shared msftdata
2 57.5GB 57.5GB 16.8MB android_meta
3 57.5GB 63.9GB 6369MB android_expand
The fat32 partition is not encrypted and can be mounted on a computer (provided it can handle the new GUID partition table format).
I advise a reboot after setting the new music storage location this as Google Music may get the wrong idea about much space is available.
Rename the adopted storage. If it had the same name as the portable storage partition then it may prevent one of the partitions from being available over USB MTP."
