Hello fellow xda people.
I have searched to solve this issue but couldn't find a solution.
So here's what going on.
I have received my USB OTG cable today. So I wanted to test it out. I hooked up an external hdd with external power on my phone. I was able to see and browse it in root browser. But I couldn't play any video's in .avi format with vplayer or mxplayer. Which was weird. I also couldn't start the following apps: root browser, file browser from cyanogenmod (with root permissions), mx player, vplayer. (I only tested those apps). I started root browser before plugging in the hdd. The hard drive was under /legacy/0/ (the phones internal storage). I also tried an USB stick with the same effect. But I could play a movie because it was a .mp4. I played it with stock Android videoplayer. I tried the apps stickmount and otg helper from google play but they didn't help. So I know the cable is not broken. It is a issue with my phone.
Has anyone a solution or at least can point out the problem?

Hey all,
I was playing with mounting a thumb drive using an otg cable and playing mkvs from it using mx player (succsefully btw), and now when I connect my Galaxy note 2 to any computer (tried multiple) the phone charges, but does not mount as a media device within windows.
Anyone have any ideas? I tried uninstalling the app, rebooting, pulling the battery, different cords and different computers.
I can still use the OTG cable to connect to a thumb drive and play files from it, so I do not believe I have damaged the hardware...
hi, so im rooted and used OTA cable with stickmount, it mounts my usb3.0 drive but it doesn't show any files, does it only detect or show fat32? i think my stick is NTSF
i also tried nexus media importer and it doesnt detect my usb drive
any other apps? thanks
i used free app called usb otg helper and it detects my ntsf drive but when i play the .mkv file theres no audio, maybe i don't have the right codec or video player?
Hi guys,
I just recently rooted my nexus 7, and when I tried to connect it to my car, the OTG functionality doesn't work.
I've tried using StickMount and Nexus Media Import, but neither of them worked. For NMI, whenever I select export, it doesn't detect the destination device.
Basically, I want to use the Nexus as a USB device to stream music in my car. Once I get this working, I'll use PodMode w/ aux until if someone figures out USB audio out.
I feel like I'm overlooking something since I've seen couple of people making comment about this working for them. I'd appreciate if someone could help out. Thx!
Install CM 10.2, USB Audio works flawlessly
Very Frustrated in transferring Music and Movies to the Nexus 7 2 from my PC and from Itunes.
Can someone steer me to a thread that describes how to do this step by step. I have had little luck in figuring out how to transfer to the N7 from my Windows 7 PC do to the stupidity of only having MTP protocol.
I am hesitant to buy Doubletwist Airsync but would pay for it after confirming it would work........
Maybe an alternative would help?
I don't use itunes to sync my music. I use SyncR and it works perfectly. For movies, I use ftpCafe to download movies since i have an FTP server running on my home machine. I connect through local LAN and the speed is blazing fast. If you don't have FTP, you could use ES File Explorer to browse a network share and download that way too.
Hope it helps.
if you don't mind doing it wirelessly, I use WifiDroid which lets me upload using a web interface on my PC.
Personally, I'm using USB sticks to transfer files via usb-otg cable (~5 bucks). If your rom respectively kernel doesn't support (format of) USB stick (eg. exFat), flashing custom kernel such as ElementalX and apks such as stickmount or usb-otg helper (my recommendation) will do the job. Works great for me..
I can use my N7 like a hard drive....i dont get what you mean...
What's the mount point of USB OTG storage on the disk? Since there is no way to play the music on the usb disk using Play Music app (correct me if I am wrong), I'd like to add the mount point to kodi and play it from there. Note that es-explorer is able to use Play Music app to play one mp3 at a time, but there is no playlist support or play complete folders/albums.
Any update on this? I to wild like to know. Thanks
