Mine has it too. I think it's excess glue from inserting the hard plastic letters. they squirt glue in the depressions and the push in the letters. the extra glue is forced out and wiped off. Too much glue is better than not enough.

That's way too much...you should get it replaced....
I think there something on it making the oils from my skin stick to it. I don't remember it looking like that a few days ago.
It's going into a poetic revolution case so I could care less. If a local staples gets a 32 gig in I'll use it as a excuse tho

The one I had before I exchange it has this too. I didn't notice it being there when I first got it, so it seems this develops over use and having your fingers pressing it together.
I did think that wiping it with my shirt help, but it never did go completely away.

Same with mine though yours is a little worse. I also have a slightly flaky touch screen. Makes typing annoying. Plan on swapping, but hopefully LTE will hit first.

Well kind of... The screen is shattered but it works perfectly otherwise. I still payed the $100 deductible and am awaiting my refurb replacement . At least its rooted with CWM so i can restore easily!

So I decided to risk it and do this. I used 1500 dry/wet sandpaper. This is fool proof with his high grit the paper is. With that said it takes like 3 hours and blistered fingers to complete but I'm glad I did it. Phone looks new again.
Tape off the front and trim with razor using between the bezel and glass as a guideline, and remove battery cover, you don't have to take off the back, just remove the cover:

Thus is for people who have scratches, like mine since I bought it used at a nice price. Instead of rising breaking a 200 dollar LCD just to replace the bezel, you could save it down and get a nice matte black color and even paint it after.

Thanks! I am using Rust-Oleum primer, paint, and clear. Just remember to always use the same brand primer, paint, and clear, I tried to use a different brand of clear and it ruined the finish.

Its going to get finished, I just got set back a little. The paint is currently drying and I should be able to get the clear on it in a few hours. Here is what happened to it, if you look at the bottom you can see the finish looks terrible.

Its like 6 screws and then it just pops off in one piece. I will paint one for you, but I am going to have to figure out if the clear I bought is tough enough. if its not, I'm going to have to figure out something else. I will have finished pictures up tonight or tomorrow. I love how it looks so far, wayyy better than the stock look IMO.

Spray them with DuraCoat and it will hold up to just about anything.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to replace the digitizer yet, the paint is done. When I grab a new digitizer I will throw up some pictures.

The shiny metal bezel around the camera has little scratches around it. Looks like it blends in with the titanium brushed metal. Can't tell if they are scratches or supposed to be there. Idk how I could have scratched it. I've always had a case on it.. No drops... No setting it down in dirty places. Does anyone else have this? You have to hold it in the light to see.

Mine doesn't have any damage like that, but even if it is negligible, if it bothers you, may as well take it back if it'll make you more comfortable with your new 300 dollar phone. I know the feeling, it is the principle of damage and the fact it is new to me, more than it is the damage itself. Good luck either way!

I called a jewelery place and the lady said to come in Monday and the guy will look at it. Do you think he will be able to polish it out? Surely if they remove scratches from jewelry he can remove micro scratches off a piece of metal

The problem with polishing is that it is generally abrasive not just chemical cleaning. In this case it most certainly would have to be to remove physical scratches and not just marring. I am unsure if there is a coating that may be removed as a result, that would be my concern.

Aluminum backplates cut out gps and wifi signal from what I've heard so I wouldn't recommend it. They're easily available on eBay.

What's special about the docomo one? Care to post a link?

Therez something wrong with my backplate. It kinda rouse a bit in the right side of the camera. Whenever i press it gets pushed down a bit and makes a little noise. Anyone faced it?

Try taking it off and putting it back on. Start by inserting the bottom part first, then run your fingers up the sides to snap in the rest of the cover. Make your way to the top until all is snapped in.
I also have issues with the back plate. The lower left corner won't fit in! But the plastic didn't brake there, so I'm not sure if I need to replace it or not. Someone knows this problem?

What happened to mine was the little tab that slides in was pushed together. I needed to put something small in between that and move it back to the right position

Doubt it unless you wanna force it. It also has that inward contour at the bottom part just like the regular cover

Thanx but still doesnt work...the right side beside camera looks like got a bit higher than the surface for no reason :|

Unless it is very noticeable I wouldn't worry about it to much. Mine is a little higher around the bottom, and but it doesn't really bother me anymore

Don't use back plates
I have issues with my aftermarket backplate signal problems. Not recommended.
I've just received my DoCoMo japan door. It a diferent one but Its pretty sweet

Here it is. Just make sure to ask the seller that you want the one with the "Galaxy Nexus" printed on the back instead of "Google" because he sells different ones.

I thought I was the only one with a defective back plate problem.
