[Q] Help Unlock! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

My current sghm919 is on stock rom that has been backedup/restored, and factory resetted. I've already followed the xda sim unlock method and it worked perfectly--for my first phone. This Tmo S4 fails to unlock after restoring the golden backup. I've tried 2 other stock S4s with this similar problem. Any viable suggestions?

have you paid your phone in full? If so, ask T-Mobile for an unlock code.

oh dear....

So is there any custom rom that/app available that I can use? Galaxsim unlock looks good but when I opened it up, the Tmo S4 wasn't supported.

This is what you are looking for. Use this on stock kernel, works on any TW ROM with stock kernel.

Thank you, I have been using this site for help, but where can I download the stock kernel? Am I supposed to root it to my phone?

Addition of the Canadian Carriers to this forum

To Canadian owners of the I747 GS3, welcome to your new home! XDA has officially added your devices to this forum! As such, let's all work to make the moderators' and developers' jobs easier by doing the following:
Threads: Would all of you who have started threads in the previous forum that relate to Rogers, Bell, or Telus, please indicate in bold in the thread title that it should be moved here and specify which section you want it moved to.
Update - 07/30/2012: There are still a number of Rogers/Bell/Telus specific threads in the old section without any direction to move them. If you are the OP to any of these threads, please edit the titles to reflect which carrier and section they apply to so that they will be moved to the appropriate new section. Time is running out so please do this asap, as per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803287
Development: Being added to this forum does not mean that anything has magically changed from the previous forum relating to compatibility of your device. If, for whatever reason, an AT&T mod was not safe to flash before, it is still not safe to flash! Continue to read the OP, search, and post in the thread, if you are unsure whether something is safe to install on your device. You alone are responsible for the health of your device, so please exercise that responsibility fully.
If there is anything else that you feel should be added to this thread, or you have any questions, please feel free to either send me a PM, or post in the thread below.
This change was definitely the right decision, as most of us are already spending the majority of our time on this thread, given the almost identical nature of our phones. Looking forward to working with our US GS3 colleagues in building the great community this has the potential to be!
Excellent, thank you!
OP updated, please update titles of threads from the old section you want moved asap.
So far I see no problems with AT&T mods and rogers. Some minor issues. But would be nice to have our own section

This is our section. Without our at&t friends, development would be a 10th of what it is now. As we pretty much have the same phone, this is the best structure for all i747 owners.

From what I've been reading, you can do the update over Kies even if your phone doesn't notify you.

That is correct. I updated, no problems, through kies. I then re-rooted using the Samsung Rom toolbox to flash cwm through Odin, and superuser through cwm. Finally, set the trip counter back to zero with the triangle away app (you can get it through Google Play). The whole process was flawless.
Update upgrades us to the latest modem, LH1, way faster lte speeds. Also some other minor ui changes to the stock messaging app and browser.

What! So upgrading will lose root access?
What per se is Samsung Rom toolbox if you don't mind me asking, is that JRummy's Rom Toolbox you're referring to?
Sounds like a bit of a process, I was so proud of myself to finally tackle installing cwm via adb. Now that was all for nothing?! Dang...care to post a few more details and links for those who are still a little shy of turning their phone into a brick? Pretty please.

Yes, you will trip the Knox flag, currently no method to reset it. TWRP is fine, just do some reading about restoring backups.. If done incorrectly, you will experience what's been coined "The Brickloop"

Just root it using Odin and Chainfires auto-root method, I'm not familiar with the custom kernel as yet, so I won't comment on that. Once you root, you still keep all stock functionality, just have administrative rights, so to speak. If you're not too familiar with rooting, flashing, etc.. I wouldn't recommend starting right now with the Note 3, still early in the aftermarket development stage..

Considering all of the challenges that people have faced with Fierce bootloops - and for a while no way way to fix them, this is a situation where you would do very well to do some reading before you do anything. There are two root methods currently both are outlined in the Original Android Development Section for the TMOBILE NOte 3 - you can download everything you need from there - and I think it would be very helpful for you to read thru what others have done and experienced before you do anything - then you can make your own decision about which root method is best for your needs.
I don't mean to sound sanctimonious or anything but if there ever was a time that reading thoroughly first was a good thing to do - this is one of those times..good luck

What did my post have to do with your asking for a link? Well, I didn't want to be this direct but If you simply opened the Original Android Development thread and took less than a minute to read, you wouldn't need to ask for a link. You would see that there were two threads available that offered details that would give you exactly what you wanted. Two different ways to root.
In fact, in less time than it took you to write your post and wait for an answer, you would have had exactly what you were looking for.
My response to you was a gentle reminder that reading is a good thing.

I am sorry you felt I was ridiculing you. That was not my intent at all. THis forum is loaded with people who have have had major issues when flashing a recovery which is often the next step after rooting - there are more reports of people who have had to return their note 3 to TMOBILE than I can remember seeing on a single phone in a very long time. My Suggestion for you to read was purely intended to help you - it is easy to let others do the work for you - when often trouble could have been avoided by being more educated. What struck me as odd was the fact that it was so easy to find the link you were looking for - if you only opened one section of the forum in the Original Android Development you would have found it. But that is besides the point.
My comments were always supportive - and intended to help you. Period. I am sorry that you are so caught up in the " I want what I want when I want it "- that you can't see that. XDA is a forum designed for people to learn more about their phones and to ultimately try to get more out of them than you can get in a Stock phone...I have been in your shoes before and done exactly what you did when asking for a link - and have gotten a similar reply to the one I gave you. I am grateful it happened to me because it forced me to take a step back - do a little reading - learn more about the challenges others have faced and in the end, avoid those same problems myself.
Once more, I am Sorry you feel I was ridiculing you - couldn't be farther from the truth - I wish you well and hope you enjoy your NOTE3. Have a nice day my friend.

I may be wrong but I thought that using that option in Wanam Exposed was cosmetic only. It changes that to Official in Settings - but doesn't really effect how your phone is recognized as being 'altered" - LIke I said, I might be wrong, but that is what I heard. My question was after getting a new phone and wanting to sell my previous one, what condition is the most profitable to sell it in. Rooting, modding and tweaking is not an issue for me. I know how to restore my stock backup and unroot it or Odin back to stock. It is a phone that hasn't taken an update where it would be unable to flash a rom. So that was my simple question. Thanks for trying to be helpful and not rude though.

The best way to sell any product that you did not create is to sell it how it came out of the marker, if u say that you hacked it, it will lose value. In other words... put it back to stock and act like it has never been rooted

Because you're lazy and like most n00bs you want spoon feeding which is also not allowed.
What is best/smooth for me wont necessarily be smooth for you. "Best" is also subjective so all you're going to get is mixed opinions which makes the whole idea of topic useless which and just clutters up place if people are allowed to ask such a topic each time they want to flash their phone which is why these topics are not allowed on XDA.

Yessss I know that being smooth is subjective people are complaining about the laggs in dn3 ! So I'm asking others whom using phantom if they experiencing such things or not.
As I said before I'm not lazy I just don't have one day to backup and restore all my apps and data with titanium backup which has no batch restore !!!

I know it has .but you should install all apps one by one by yourself that takes too much time. It just opens installer automatically one after another

Errr no it doesnt. You must have unregistered version. Full version installs them all in batch mode, no user action is needed.

Mod Edit
"Best" or "Recommend" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.
Don't forget to make a nandroid before you start.

I'm stuck in TWRP

checked out the newest post on galaxynote2root.com about turning my note 2 into a S5/Note3 hybrid.
FOllowed the directions telling me to flash the Verizon version to my Sprint device but it failed. Normally no big deal but like an idiot I did not back up and I did not have another ROM to fall back on.
I have a card reader adapter that I have attempted to put other random roms onto and flash through TWRP but EVERYTHING fails and I can't figure out why. SOmebody please help me out here
......
Update: I've been able to flash the Illusion Rom with no Fail message but it just boots to the Samsung Galaxy Splash and doesn't move like it's loading the greatest cut scene ever. So yea still stuck if anybody could help out
Ok I can most likely help but I need more information. Give me a link to the thread you followed and the rom you flashed. Please send it in a PM so others wont see it and try to do the same thing.
Another user recently posted a video link to something claiming the same thing in one of my rom threads. I have ported over a Verizon rom to sprint and it is not a simple thinbg to do. Wish you would have seen this in my thread before you tried it. Hopefully I can get you up and running again.

Waiting on him to get in touch with me.
So why would he say it would work. Is flashing Verizon note 2 roms on our sprint note 2?

I have no clue why he would claim it to work. I googled it and in the thread he is referring to the rom I ported over from verizon. It will not work as he states. You can try it of you want but I am telling you the person who posted it is wrong.

I went to that forum and read everything along with the comments. Looks like they really have no clue what they are doing. The users who did not mess up their device (non sprint users) do not have working wifi because they do not have the proper information. There are specific files on each device that is needed and they were not told to change them. I left a mostly nice comment about their steps for sprint.
Sorry guys I was already heading to bed when you guys started messaging back. I appreciate you guys taking the time out to help me with my problem. jlmancuso I've sent you that PM with hopefully all the information you need and requested.
Update: I have just attempted to Flash the stock firmware from samsung-updates.com through ODIN and I am unfortunately still getting no further than the Samsung Galaxy Note II splash and of course I've also lost TWRP
Final Update: After flashing the stock firmware back to my phone I went into the basic recovery mode that it has and did a factory reset yet again and apparently that did it and my phone is back to it's normal self.
Thanks for your help guys ... kinda lol
