[Q] Note II To Get 4.3 Not 4.2.2? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I haven't posted here before because I am just looking at phones to replace my HTC Desire/Bravo but I have been reading in a few places that the Note II will not be getting JB 4.2.2 but instead Samsung are waiting to push out 4.3 OTA instead, is this true and would you suggest buying the Note II as a replacement?
Has anyone heard of any additional features the update might bring with it?
Thanks in advance
CJ

well over here the diff in price is around 4k Indian rupees but trust me I find s4 to be not worth despite the faster processor, cam, better display I still find the note 2 to be the best .the s4 feels like a baby infront of note2 .
with note 2 you cant go wrong better battery,s pen, bigger display, feels better in hand I would definitely choose the note2.
I HAVE MYSELF OWN A HTC HD2 IN THE PAST AND LOVE MY DAYS FLASHING ON IT BUT TRUST ME YOU WILL LOVE THE NOTE2 BY LEAPS
AND WITH THE 4.3 UPDATE IN Q4 IT GETS EVEN BETTER

I'm going to uni this year so I think the s-pen will be invaluable, it's a huge step up from my current devices and as you said there's a huge price difference and the note does most of what the S4 does anyway.

just be sure that you have a 4.1.2 rom installed as 4.1.1 is prone to sds as anyways you will get a 4.1.2 flashed in all new note2

Worth it to go to S3?

Currently using an HTC One S but have had the S2. Question is if the upgrade is worth it to an S3 if we were to just put the S3 software on the S2 (if even possible). Thoughts?
it,s not just about the software it,s hardware it,s faster much better looking. i am happy with my GS2 i dont wanna upgrade but it,s tempting

Our version of the S3 will feature the super powerful, super efficient Snapdragon S4. Better performance, and much, much better battery life. Porting the software will not give you those additions.
If you care about performance and speed then get the GS3 if you like style and design then keep your HTC One

Of course, when you read about the new processor or about S3 on the internet, it will give you an 'idea' as to where it will stand. However, unless you have the phone in your hand to truly experience what it is really about, what you have said can only go as far as being a speculation.
Im going to wait and see how the hardware differs. Im HOPING the Telus ver has an LTE antenna or something that makes it the same as the AT&T/Rogers version. Im not really intrigued by samsung anymore, i dont want a new device that will have to wait 8 months for a software update, which 5.0 is supposed to land this fall...

Samsung is not delayed on the software update. Its the carriers of the phone. As a matter of fact, Samsung is the first company to bring ICS on the market with Galaxy Nexus.

True but that was a google phone, and it was a brand new product. They dont give a crap about their old products.
Asus is where its at for fast android updates, and google phones.

At the same time you have to understand that updating software for all tmobile users ota costs a lot of money. Gingerbreads are stable and I'm pretty sure they'd like to spend time and money on things that profit them like developing new products.

Re: Off-topic other device and upgrading phone discussion
I'll go first. Staying with my note 2. Not giving up my stylus just yet. No other phone has impressed me enough to give up my GN2 just yet.
According to the commercials "The Next Big Thing is Already Here"....and I have it =D. I am totally content with my phone. I use the stylus daily, it is beyond convenient and productive. Contrary to what I suspected prior to buying my GN2, the size is just right for me. I have small hands but I do just fine with it; albeit I do get the occassional hand cramp from holding it; but that's because I rarely put it down I've been totally spoiled by the size, and couldn't imagine having a smaller screen. I was putting games on my Captivate for my lil one to play on, and I giggled...how did I live with that tiny screen. On the flip side I also couldn't imagine going any bigger, with that said I plan on keeping my Note 2 for a long time.
Im trying to decide between the S4 and the Note 3 whenever it comes out. I do love the larger screen size of the Note 2.
Re: Off-topic other device and upgrading phone discussion
I don't think I can ever go back to a smaller screen, so I'll most likely be getting the note 3.

The HTC One has my attention, but I'm just not sure that I'm willing to part with my GN2 yet. The only thing that hacks me off about Samsung is their insistence on the cheap plastic finish.
The fit and finish of the HTC One may lure me in...I'll decide when I see it in person.
I would never go to another phone, so either way I will wait for note3 or if something bad happens to me phone I will just buy a new note2.

well hopefully the rumour about the note 3 having a LCD screen is false I rather have the AMOLED screen even if the reason for the LCD screen is better use of the S-pen.

Exactly, I love my Note 2 a lot, finally feel like I have a phone that is great and has what I want.
Just finished watching the first episode of the S IV launch event the new features seems really cool for it, but just as you said will wait to see what they do to the Note 3.
I think I'm sold on the S4, although I do love my Note 2. But... will a lot of the S4 features, software wise, is just a part of an updated OS or apps that we can use on the Note 2? That could potentially keep me here. But then again the 13mpx camera and 441dpi is very tempting.

well most of the features that are on the s4 will be coming to the note 2 so the rumor goes with the 4.22 update but we will probably get the update when the note 3 comes out and it will have all those features and then some.

Not in a million years. The S4 looks OK, but is in no way a replacement for the Note 2.
1 - I will never use any of those "features" on the S4. Like MKBHD mentioned on his S4 video, and I agree, the new features are attractive to people who are not very phone-literate. If you want to use different apps other than the standard ones, you'll lose them anyway, like the smart pause. I don't see myself using any of the new features they announced.
2 - The battery life is virtually guaranteed to suck when compared to the Note 2. If it's anything like the S3, which I owned and gladly sold within 2 months, there won't be ROMs or kernels good enough to make the battery last anywhere close to the Note 2. Unless you need the absolutely fastest phone in the world, you don't need an S4. The processor is gonna run your battery to the ground with very little use, I'm sure.
3 - Having been a completely satisfied Note 2 owner for about 3 months, I think the S4 is too small! Well, anything else is too small for that matter.
4 - No S-Pen = FAIL. The S-Pen is one of the highlights of the Note 2 and I now expect all phones to have it (OK, that's unrealistic, but it would be really nice!).
As many users here said, I don't think I'll ever buy anything other than Notes from now on. I'll wait for the Note 3 or 4 depending on how excited I get when they come out.
Re: Off-topic other device and upgrading phone discussion
Main reason am gonna stick to Note2 is for Exynos processor.
I have used International version of S2 which had dual core exynos processor than S2lte with snapdragon and it sucked.
Then comes the North American S3 (big update in snapdragon processer), but still was behind in smoothness comparing international version of S3 having exynos quadcore porcesser.
And comes the beast Note2 with exynos processor and 2gb Ram as addon, nothing can beat smoothness of this phone.
Snapdragon qualcomm processer has got better, but for me are still behind in smoothness comparing to exynos.
Hoping Note3 to come with exynos like of Note2, orelse I will have to go with international version at cost of no LTE.

Well, if YOU don't care....good for you. Point taken.
Let me just tell you that MANY people care for ANY update, since
not many phones are working as they're supposed to, with 4.1.2.
Myself, I have not had a proper working wifi function, since the
miserable 4.1.2 "update". And you know as well as all of us
that most users have less battery time, more lag, & so on.
But you already know about those facts.
You just wanted to say "who cares"...
Well.....who cares if you care or not?
Unless they release the note 3 they will never release 4.2.2 for note 2 owners because they fear that some people will not upgrade to note 3 due to the upgrade software.
just like we will never get 4.2.2 for the s3 unless the s4 is release
If you truely want 4.2.2. Unlock and root and just use rom. Super easy to do now especially with the latest samsung devices, i.e. Galaxy S3 and Note 2.
And with being able to download the stock images almost impossible to brick these devices.
I'd actually like lockscreen widgets.

completely different stuff.. i want to use it cause samsung is doing amazing things that you dont see in CM versions

Multi-windows
Sensors (next page, moving homescreens etc, I know GMD works as well but this gets integrated in stock)
Both cameras working at same time.

Just saw this thread and had some random thoughts about how to answer this. I got my note 2 on recontract 2.5 years ago and was the latest and greatest at the time. I've installed a new Rom (Thanks Ditto Note) which has the latest 4.4.2 version of Android and the applications for Note 3 and S5.
This is pretty cool (makes my phone feel brand new) but the reality is that Note 2 is not the Note 3. I think the screen is a big upgrade from the Note 2, bigger and crisper as well as better battery life. It sounds like you may be worried about the latest and greatest. I don't see many people complaining about Note 3 and going back to Note 2. Also Note 4 is supposed to be in the wings.
The only thing I would not recommend is if Note 3 IS NOT 4G/LTE (personally unless your network doesn't support, 4G/LTE is way to go). You may not use it but eventually, 4G speeds will be rolled out soon and good to have option.
Maybe someone who has gone from Note 2 to Note 3 may chip in and give their perspective.
Dont wory it will work all on device heavy games ,batery life is exelent ,it is not slow at all ,its fast ,you dont regret notging if you buy note 2

I agree with Zhousibo, that flashing DN3 does make the Note 2 awesome and brings many features from new devices like Note 3 and S5 to the Note 2.
I have a Note 2 with DN3 v5+ and it is working rather well, so personally I don't feel the need to upgrade to Note 3 yet. I'll wait and watch for Note 4.
However, you may not want to root and flash an alternate ROM immediately after purchase, especially if you might want to keep the warranty.
Also, Note 3 has better hardware like 1080p screen and also includes an IR sensor that can be a useful add-on with some of the new remote control applications in the market.
buy Note 3 , then save up for Note 5
otherwise you will regret after some time
its clear that the note3 screen is much better than note2 .(which i care more than the camera) so i will get the note3 with 4g version
thanks to all

Yep go for it. As soon samsung will forget it's phone like they tend to do.
2 years of life then they push their new models first. Note2 is close to the limit.
I'm not sure we will see 4.5 on our phone.

[Q] Is this device worth buying now?

Hi.
I currently own a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012) and unfortunately I woke it up during lunch and was surprised to find that the screen now hates black and now it displays things incorrectly. It's still usable but ugly to look at. So I've read some reviews and it seems that the battery life is much worse and it's laggy even with 8 cores. So after more than 6 months, is this cellphone/tablet worth it now? I prefer the 10 inch notes for random sketching though but I normally do my art with a real Wacom tablet. I'm thinking of either suffering until the release of the next Galaxy Note 10.1 or possibly jump at Asus Transformer Book V or just jumping to the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. I mainly just use my tablet for Internet and drawing on Sketchbook Pro.
If you are normal with a life and don't sit around all day and pick at everything , This tablet is the best out there for the money,,I have had mine since Dec 21013 and had no issues , I'm rooted and its stupid fast and does everything, Don't listen to the reviews on this tab, most of the bad ones are IPad goons and people with way too much time on their hands.

Too bad about Best Buy- ours here have them (at MSRP, though).

if it's a "gift", we are allowed up to a certain amount, but that designation depends on the seller (eBay peeps can be accommodating). sometimes i'll get stuff shipped to Point Roberts, just across the border, and then take a drive and roll the dice with the border guard. i've had $700 phones and gear sent that way, and have lucked out.
you Americans get all the good stuff! the black version of the P600 hasn't even been released yet here. and probably won't be ...
gotta say, i really dig the Official Book Cover. slim, and still shows off the design of the tablet, with just enough protection for the screen (not using any film or tempered glass on the screen.

If you want to root while keeping warranty, I suggest NOT buying this tablet.
I just bought it and regretted it due to the above. I don't install custom ROM, but I need root for Xposed (unrestricted Multiview), debloat (seems very necessary for Samsung devices) and back up (Helium and Titanium Backup).
Don't spread misinformation- you can get root w/o tripping Knox nor voiding your warranty.

I would say yes to buying. On the neg for me I root and custom rom all Android devices I own and got mine this weekend not having read this forum. It came with 4.4.2 so I can only root but cannot do a custom recovery for a custom rom as some here have had theirs longer than I.
Don't know if any love will come for the 442 but if root is not your concern it is a sweet device. I know without a custom rom I am missing another level that they offer.

I am playing nice - I gave OP info about root just in case he wants to do so.
However, I was "accused" of spreading mis-information by @kcrudup and @GalaxyNotesTx. If I gave wrong info, correct me by providing the link to rooting Wifi version without tripping KNOX, and I'll fix my post.
FYI: I just got this tablet yesterday and have been searching XDA and Googling other forums and sites - no root without tripping KNOX for wifi version. So I don't want OP to be as disappointed as me IF he/she wants root.

I think it depends on whether you need the S-pen or not. I've looked at the Tab S, but I need the pen.
Plus, the Note is only $459 at Amazon, so it's cheaper.

Can't get it throw Amazon here in Egypt so i have to get it from any local store ,, i used Note 2 and Note 3 but i can't say that i use the SPen that much ,, it's a great addition indeed but holding 2 phones in my hand before prevented me from using the SPen
the main issue that the Tab S will be out of my budget fore sure but if it worth it then i will try to get one whenever it's here also they almost identical in specifications except for the screen Super LCD Vs. Super AMOLED
I guess for sure that Samsung will update all this devices for Android L so i don't have to worry about it
I would prefer to get the Snapdragon version but it's a quit rare in common and hard to get so i have to stick to the Exynos although i prefer the Snapdragon
So what do you think ?!

Yes, or perhaps the 12" if that would work for you. I think the 2014 Note is still the best 10 " option available

Why do you recommend the Galaxy Tab Pro ? comparing to Note 10.1 2014 they are both identical but you got the SPen and more 1GB of RAM so i guess the Note 10.1 2014 is better than Galaxy Tab Pro and maybe cheaper also
