Hi everyone
I have following problem: I tried fixing wifi by myself(common death grip issue). I managed to do so, but when i was repairing it i did something wrong and speaker stopped working. It's not that important, but annoying so i'd like to fix it.
I noticed small part laying loose near my phone, but i don't know where it comes from. Any help?
Especially pictures with some instructions what to do are greatly appreciated.

Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this with their Play but as of a week or two ago the backlight started acting strange. The backlight will randomly stay off when I push the power button with the slider gamepad closed. Only way to make it come on is to pop out the slider. It seems to be random, and if I push on the slider edge slightly with my thumb with the slider closed the backlight randomly flickers, ranging from slight to severe.
The display is still working despite the backlight issues, I can open apps, and use the phone normally but the backlight flickers on and off. Makes it especially hard to use the phone in the dark.
Phone has never been dropped once.
I've replicated this problem with a variety of roms, both custom and stock. It's definitely not app related or even custom kernel related. It happens on a fresh wipe with stock rom with stock kernel. It happens on CM7 with custom kernel.
I'm curious if anybody else is experiencing this. It would tell me if it's just an isolated incident or if others are having this problem.
Sounds like a faulty connection to the backlight to me.
I had the same problem 2 days ago. Then I couldn't get my phone screen on at all!
I sent my phone back to Sony, even thought I bought it second hand. Phoned them up and talked to them. They asked what time of year I bought it so I said around August and then they gave me the address to send it to. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens next.
If your going to send your phone to Sony for repair then make sure you put the fresh firmware back on and un-root your phone as that breaks the warranty (unless they don't know about it)
Hope I helped you. If I did then click the thanks button
Sounds like a faulty ribbon cable to me. (cable that connects the screen to the rest of the phone)
You wouldn't need to drop it for that to go bad, It could just be a case of opening and closing the gamepad or lot.
Yeah good thoughts, most likely the ribbon. That really sucks because I've only had the phone for 7 months, and I've taken excellent care of it. Sounds like a major design oversight.
Mine is probably near complete failure at this point. It's taking a lot more effort to keep the screen on now. Fearing soon it won't work at all.
In hopes that this might help someone else down the line, I was able to fix my problem. Yesterday the screen pretty much quit and I had no choice but to try and solve it myself or buy a new phone.
Using this disassembly video as a visual aid I carefully pulled my phone apart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE
You'll need a torx T5 tool to pull out all the screws but they are cheap.
Underneath the phone and jammed into the screen ribbon was a rather thick hair just hanging out. Somehow it buried itself in there. I removed it, unplugged and replugged the screen ribbon and cleaned the dusty inside with a q-tip and reassembled it all together.
It works fine now, so hopefully this helps someone else avoid having to pony up for a new phone. For those under warranty probably best to send back but for those like me with no warranty it's worth the shot.
I dropped my HOX and cracked the digitizer a while ago and i still used my hox since to me it's not really a problem to have a broken glass. A couple of days ago capacitive buttons started to malfunction. Now they are not working anymore. I installed Button Savior to make the phone still usable, but now i am looking forward to solve the problem.
I am asking a simple question because i opened my hox so many times resolving GPS and WIFI malfunctions (my WIFI and GPS now are stronger than Galaxy Nexus', so that's a hardware problem), and played a lot with the connection to antenna pins. There is the remote chance that i actually broke something on the mainboard. The question is: replacing the digitizer+display would 100% solve the problem of capacitive buttons? Are the capacitive buttons totally integrated with screen digitizer?
Maybe it's just a silly question, but i want to be sure before buying a spare display+digitizer.

Bump!
I'm also having troubles with my capacitive buttons..
Opened my HOX to fix the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth issue with a couple solder point, closed it back, connection is now amazingly good, but:
-I have no lights on my capacitive buttons (except for the lights off they work alright).
-I have no sound on my loudspeaker (the one behind the device), tested it with a 1.5v battery (like this: youtube.com/watch?v=xIMHGkxw72o) and the speaker itself is fine, but, no sound.
I'm from Brazil, no HTC presence here, so, no authorized service where I can send it to be fixed.
I'm hoping you guys could give me some help on how to proceed to identify/ fix those issues!
Anything???

I went on a rage and FULLY disassembled the phone... putting all back together later on.
Everything is fine now!
For me, I GUESS this cable was disconnected: etradesupply.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/o/e/oem_htc_one_x_navigation_light_flex_cable_ribbon_4_.jpg
It's related to capacitive buttons light and loudspeaker (I don't know if anything else goes trough it)...unfortunately can't use this solution for nonworking buttons...
=/
sorry for bring alive this thread but im very interested on thi issue, im having the exact same problem after "fixing" wifi issue :/ does reaplcing the digitizer fixes this problem?

I've also just had an issue with non-working capacitive buttons, they light up but won't actually do anything, the phone hasn't been dropped and is usually left on the sideboard in the bedroom as I mostly use my newer HTC One instead, any reason why it would just suddenly just stop like that? was fine the day before whilst playing a game on it.
So the speaker on my phone is giving me problems. Its kind of hard to explain, but it kind of crackles/pops some times... Maybe really high pitched at times. and other times it cuts in and out. With very occasionally i cant hear anything out of it.
Little back story. it was kinda crackling a few months back nothing major. Then I set it on the top of my dresser and it fell onto a metal step ladder. (fell about 6-7 feet and hit on the top of the phone) As always i have a case and the screen didnt break thankfully. But it made the speaker start acting up to the point where phone calls are almost impossible to get through. I went ahead and replaced the speaker, but its still not sounding right, and still makes making phone calls unbearable. I Unrooted my phone, just to see if it was the rom and still nothing. so I went ahead and re-rooted again. (couldn't hurt right? ) Am i missing something?? It seems to me like a hardware problem but i dont know what else I'm missing?
Thanks for your help.
As a side note i went on a road trip and used my headphones for the first time since i got the phone 8 months ago. But come to find out the jack doesnt work... It recognizes the headphones being plugged in, but no sound comes through the earbuds. I dont know if its related.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

First, this will most-likely be moved to the Q&A section, so just be aware of that for future posts.
Second, it sounds like it's purely a hardware issue. It sounds like the 6-foot fall jostled some components around. I'd suspect it's a faulty connection to the motherboard, but I really cannot tell. As far as sound issues with various ROMs, I haven't heard of any issues remotely similar to this. There have been issues with sounds on various ROMs, but not of this nature.
As far as solutions go, do you have TEP? This is really the type of replacement that is perfect for TEP.
Questions go in Q&A

I just picked up the new Nexus 7 yesterday, and tried out the microphone today. In either Camera (via video) or Google Now, it basically just picks up constant noise. It's not even "noise plus minor sound" - just all noise.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas if there might be a fix apart from replacing it?
I assume I have to get a replacement, but since it's sold out near me and I'd like to avoid going through a replacement wait when I can't get a new one quickly, I thought I'd ask.
I just returned it - I thought better to not wait, since they might be sold out later once it actually gets "released". No need to worry about finding a solution for my sake.
My new one has a working microphone, so I'm just chalking it up to hardware defect.
Hi - new to the G3 world. Occasionally I buy faulty electronics from ebay, in the hope of fixing the item. I like the challenge
So I bought a G3. This phone I bought is a mini work in progress to repair. I really like it.
I am going to put the workaround that worked in my case here first. It may not work or work for you
WORKAROUND FOR SEVERE NOISE CRASH:
SYMPTOM of NOISE CRASH PROBLEM: Using the phone, when out of the blue a horrible screech from the phone and a software (OS) crash and reboot.
When I got this phone it had big issues. I read and got a lot of help from here, thanks !!!
It would happen just about every time I used the phone.
The phone was also hot at the back and chewing through the battery. Was it overheating ? I'm not sure what temperature is normal for a G3.
WORKAROUND (THAT IS HOLDING UP AFTER A WEEK) NO DEATH NOW BY SOUND CRASH:
1. I think the best thing I did was to loosen (not remove) *ALL* the tiny screws around the phone at the back, around the edge. I will post a picture, but haven't done so yet.
I then flexed the whole phone a very little bit once the screws were loose. Yes I now have a few 'screws loose'.....
THATS IT. The phone hasn't fallen apart BUT obviously it could if dropped.
2. I also ran an app I learned about here called "battery guru".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not using this phone to make calls - just use spotify and a video streaming service. Battery life great now and heat minimal.
I realize it's not an ideal solution, and may only worked with my phone. Will post a picture of the screws soon.
Cheers
