[Q] Need Help!!!! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey, really need help... I flashed odin and did a system wipe in TWRP without moving the su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip or Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip onto the internal memory before I flashed the 2.3.6 stock rom through odin... Now that i cant get past the "TOUCH THE ANDRIOD TO START SETUP" screen... is there any way i can put it onto the internal memory?
Thanks

Ok,... I downloaded Odin, and the drivers...
Then i selected PDA and used this script Openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-hercules-1.tar
I didnt check repartition, I hit start and I got a green PASS on the top left.
Then I rebooted into recovery and wiped cache, davlik and system..
After that i went to reboot and it said there was no OS loaded.
Then i booted back in the download mode i used for the Odin download and flashed 2.3.6.
I know for a fact i skipped moving ( su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip) on my internal memory..
my question is, 1 did i need it, and 2 if so, how do i put it on my phone..
I can get to the first setup screen when you have to tap the Android to start, but not past it. Its giving me the "com.google.process.gapps not working" error as well as com.google.process.systemsetup not working error and i cant get past that tap the andriod to begin screeen.
Any tricks you know of? I really need to figure something out soon.

What u did was erase the os from the phone, bad bad idea if u don't have a backup or another ROM on ur SD card, bow what u need to do is boot into recovery, mount usb storage and download any t989 ROM u like onto ur PC, connect the phone to PC and transfer the ROM to ur SD card, now go back to main screen in twrp and select install, find the rom u downloaded and select it, flash the ROM and reboot, u should be good, if that doesn't work go to sammobile.com and download latest firmware for ur device, should be a tar file, flash it the same way with Odin as u did twrp, now u just need to start over but this time don't wipe system without having a backup or another ROM to flash

My phone is all types of messed up

I was going in to root my phone, like I've done plenty of times, but this time when I went to reset my phone, it keeps foreclosing and won't let me do anything. I'll get foreclose after foreclose, then my phone will restart. It continually does that.
I've unrooted it, I've manually done a factory reset and nothing seems to work.
Have you tried to format system Data and boot?

How do I do that?
In Clockwork recovery under mounts and storage. Are you trying to flash a new rom? Or unroot your device?

Hey, which root method did u use? If u used melvins way did u put the zip on your internal memory? That is the only way it worked for me and if u have recovery turn phone off next hold volume up and volume down together plus power at the same time. Then when it vibrates let go of all 3 and bang ur in recovery once ur in wipe data wipe cache then go to advanced and wipe dalvik then reboot if all else fails i would throw zedomaxs unroot back to stock zip on phone then wipe data, cache, and dalvik and flash that then start root process over

Yea its weird i know. Lol so check it out this is what i did. So i didnt get confused i took out my external sdcard (micro sd) THEN i hooked it up to computer transferred tge root zip onto my internal zip and i was good to go for some reason if u flash with it on ur external sd it doesnt work. Now if u dont feel like takin sd out just hook phone up to computer two boxes will pop up it will be the one with less contents that u dont use. So transfer root zip onto ur internal ir will have a long list of contents when hooked up to ur computer then after that just flash root again this time go to flash from "choose zip from internal" in recovery. and u should be good

Yes if u made a backup go to recovery wipe data, cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik then go back and go to backup and restore and hit restore if u didnt make a backup ill tell u now that u should always do so like after u get ur rom all set up the way u want or when flashing a new rom this way incase something happens (likethis) u can restore ur rom. I know with slayhers metgod of recovery u didnt need to have root to backup. If u dont have a backup then i guess ur other option is the zedomax zip i suggested a few posts back. Can u hook phone to computer and turn on usb storage so u can transfer zedomax zip? Or are the fc relentless.... Hey keep tryin girlie
Aagh **** just seen ur post...

[Q] How to go from 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick to Cyanogenmod 10.0.0 Stable Release

Hello all just bought a new Samsung Galaxy SII from craigslist already rooted with 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick. After reading for what seems 4-5 hours i have been trying to put together how to properly without bricking switching it to 10.0.0 Stable as i use to use Cyanogenmod 2-3 years ago on my devices. Seem alot of things have changed and there is a cluster**** of stuff out there now. If you could direct me to a how to or show me how to do it i would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks all!
Assuming you have nothing personal to back up that you can't just download from google play or your google account again: download cyanogen 10 and it's gapps. reboot into recovery mode. factory reset, wipe data, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. pick the install zip from sd card or so option, browse to cyanogen, then install gapps the same way. wipe dalvik again and reboot.
I was thinking of doing this myself JMT to CM10. I didn't think there was anything special to do same as flashing from any other ROM to CM10. If there is a special requirement I would think they'd post in in with the ROM post information.

honestly - i backed up everything to my external and then formatted the internal when i went from TW to AOSP for the last time. well worth it. nice folder clean up and then you can just manually take all the stuff you want back.
and you should just be able to odin on cwm or twrp - then flash the rom of your choice.

If you get stuck at the boot logo, it's called a soft brick. You don't have to use ODIN or go back to ICS. Just make sure the ROM zip you downloaded isn't corrupt (check the size/m5d if possible), wipe everything, and reboot into recovery to try installing again.

You won't fail. Follow the guidelines step by step. Print it out, make notes. Anything. Read. The step by step guide works... that'll get you with cwm. Then, you can flash the zip you will put on your phone... either a SU zip or just a rooted ROM. Follow flashing instructions.
Just realized - you'll be way better off if, once you have cwm on, just format the internal ONCE YOU HAVE A ROM ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD. then flash CM10. THEN you'll have a fresh AOSP install.

Please excuse my harshness but this is not as hard as many make it seem. I would say if it takes you more than a couple attempts maybe it is just not for you. I only say this because I would hate to see you mess up your phone. Now if you think a bootloop is a brick then we need to do things at a slower pace with you.
If you already have your phone rooted then
1.download goomanager from the playstore and then
2.open it up and allow it to grant permission from CM
3.hit menu button while goo manager is open
4.click on install OpenRecoveryScript
5.let it do its thing
6.reboot into your new TWRP recovery
7.Wipe/Data Factory Reset
8.Flash Rom
9.Flash Gapps
10.Reboot
You can throw in a backup of files somewhere in there if you like.... Your choice

I had a bootloop when using CWM v6.0.1.5. So a friend of mine told me he had success with CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch. So I switched to the touch recovery and... SUCCESS.
Here's the link to CWM touch and non-touch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893464
A boot loop could mean a bad download or bad flash but it is most definitely NOT a bricked device. All you needed to do was get a fresh download and move it to your SD card by mounting it in recovery. Then, wipe EVERYTHING but the SD. EVERYTHING. Then flash the ROM, Gapps and whatever radio. I go from CM to AOKP to other random TW roms all the time and never have issues.
The 2 best recoveries are twrp or my favorite because I'm used to it is cwm 6.0.1.5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
Also if your phone boot loops don't freak out' just either reboot to see if that works out first and if not reboot into recovery. Also with these new recoveries do not use dark side scripts.
Factory reset
Format system
Format cache
Format data
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot and enjoy

Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I didn't want it to be stated I didn't look around some either.
I am going from JMT to CM and want to make sure it's as seamless as possible. I use CWM and usually usually use darkside complete wipes, but I read in a previous post not to use darkside. Is there a reason for this? I can't see why this wouldn't work as it's just a wipe.
Also I use Titanium Backup. Is it possible to backup my apps and data and restore them since its not TW any longer? I want to be able to restore as much of my data as possible and make sure I don't lose it.
P.S. - If thread necroing is not appreciated, I apologize.

[Q] phone installs PA3.96a fine but gets stuck upon rebooting

I installed paranoidandroid 3.96a today and I had some errors before I was able to install it so I ended up formatting the data and then clearing the caches.
I flashed PA. Then I flashed the latest google apps. Then I flashed PA again and rebooted. My phone loaded fine and I was able to install everything I want.
Then if I reboot my phone it get stuck on the splash screen and cannot load. If I go into TWRP 2.5.0.0 recovery it asks me for a password (I have not yet a password although I recently bought this phone used on swappa so I've contacted the seller to ask if he set a password). If I push cancel at the password screen then I can get into TWRP but if I go to wipe the dalvik cache it say sit "failed." The test printed to the console is:
Updating partition details...
E: Failed to wipe dalvik
Updating partition details...
I also cannot browse the internal memory of my phone. There is no folder named "android" or similar.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to try to update TWRP to the latest version. After that I'm out of ideas
Try the latest twrp like you said. Then you can also try cwm. Before you csn browse your file system in recovery, you have to mount system.
Id try another factory reset and reboot though. If thst doesnt help try another kernel. If youre still stuck, idin flash back to full stock with the root66 firmware, then start over clean from there.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
how long do you let the phone sit after rebooting? I'm currently on the same rom and noticed it takes longer than usual to reboot the device. it's seems like it takes just as long to reboot the phone as it does to boot up the phone right after flashing the rom.
try letting the phone sit for 5-10 mins and see if it boots up. it's kind of ridiculous it takes that long to reboot a phone, but then again the rom is in alpha. I might try reflashing the rom to see if this still happens.
Just posted in the ROM thread to see if anyone else has the same issue.

I tried installing PA again and then upgrading TWRP to 2.6.0.0 but it still said that it had 2.5.0.0. Then I installed CM10.1 and used that to upgrade to TWRP 2.6.0.0 which worked. I then tried installing PA3.96a again with the same results.
I think that the problem is with TWRP not recognizing android 4.3 installs correctly because I have the same problem with CM10.2 that I had with PA3.96a.
I don't think the problem is that I'm not waiting long enough because after the first restart (i.e. I flash it and restart loading the ROM fine--then when I restart it for the first time it gets stuck). When I go into TWRP after it hangs the first thing it does is ask me for my password. I don't have a password. I think that something is happening to the system partition after install that makes TWRP unable to read it on this phone. Also it says that 0 MB have been used on my phone ram so I think the problem is with TWRP not being able to read the system partition in 4.3 correctly.
Has anyone gotten android 4.3 working on the t-mobile s3 yet?
Edit: And I can't restore from a nandroid backup (unless I put it on my SD card because the phone cannot read from the system partition).
Did you try mounting /system in recovery?
I would seriously consider Odin flashing stock root66 firmware before anything else at this point. Maybe something is corrupted in one of the underlying partitions.

Yes I did. If I mount it I still couldn't see /android or any other folders. I could also not clear the dalvik cache or do a factory reset.
Okay that's the consensus. I'll try restoring to stock sometime this weekend and see how that goes.
I just reverted back to stock using Odin. Reset the counter to be safe and then used odin to load a rooted stock. Then I installed goo manager and had it install TWRP 2.6.0.0.
Success! I can install and 4.3. Something must have been funky with the previous rooting job or something. Who knows. Thanks!

Did you install stock with Odin?
I installed stock with Odin. I then installed a rooted stock and used that to reroot my phone by installing goo manager to install twrp 2.6.0.0.
Let me know if you want me to get the links for you. I got them on xda from googling
Edit: Found it. I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900345.
Downloading the stock took about an hour so I would go ahead and just use odin to install the rooted stock. After you install your phone will reboot and then it will hang on a screen with Samsung on it (or at least it did for me). You then restart your phone and go into recovery and do a factory reset. Then install goo manager and reinstall the recovery by clicking on the options/settings button and selecting "Install OpenRecoveryScript." Then you can download whatever ROM you want to install. Reboot and go into recovery and you can install it.

Reboot your phone and instead of pushing volume up to put it into recovery mode push volume down to bring it into download mode. This is also what you use to revert to stock via odin.
IT WORKED
HOLY **** IT WORKED I HAVENT HAD MY PHONE FOR A WEEK I THOUGHT I WAS SOO SCREWED YOU SAVED MY ASS THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!:laugh::laugh::laugh:
My understanding is that it's actually kind for of hard to brick your phone from doing software modifications. It is possible but I think only if you really screw something up. Like powering down while installing a recovery or something.

Unplugging in the midst of a firmware flash, and flashing the wrong models firmware are the easiest ways people hard brick.
If you can get download mode and recovery to boot it can be fixed most of the time.

Yeah what happened with me is I downloaded hyperdrive to my internal and this was my first time and I didn't install cwm or anything like that so I did the factory reset and cleared cashe but then I relized there's no way to clear your dalvik and or launch hyperdrive so I tryed booting my phone and it got stuck on the samsung logo everytime so I used odin to put cwm on my phone and I couldn't access my internal or clear dalvik so I used an external and used my old galaxy s2 to download hyperdrive on to the external and then launched it on my s3 and it installed great it let me choose everything but when I went to launch the phone it got stuck on the hyperdrive boot animation so I tryed like 10 stock roms none of them worked it wouldn't get rid of the hyperdrive boot animation iether so then I was sher the link you gave me wasn't going to work but unlike the other odin ones I did it took time instead of only taking half a second and it worked

Samsung GS3 (d2att) not booting but have TWRP Recovery available

Hello all-
I was just recently running CM 10.2 RC1 but had to do an install of the correct gapps as it was randomly rebooting. Well the device now is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen with the BLUE cyanogen. I have access to TWRP and am able to reflash the .zip file for CM 10.2 RC1 yet it still won't boot? I did the wipe of dalvik, cache, data and system but still no luck? The device is NOT recognized in Odin. I just want to get the phone up and running again, even if it means root is lost.
Please help!!

Do you have it put into Download Mode before you plug it into the computer for Odin to recognize it? If I had it plugged in before I put mine in download mode Odin would not want to pick it up.'

Yes it is recognized once in Download mode...sorry about that. What can I do to get it up and running? I am not new to flashing, etc so it's got me really upset that I cant get it to boot. What could possibly go wrong?
Get a sd card>download a new rom and put the rom in the sd card and flash like a normal ROM
http://fs1.d-h.st/download/00023/E5R/I747UCDLK3_I747ATTDLK3_I747UCDLK3_HOME.tar.md5 You can download that file and put it in the PDA section once you run Odin and run it from there. This will put your phone back to the Stock Rom 4.1.1 and you can restart from there if you want.

I do have an sd card. Phone isn't recognized in Windows so Im not familiar with how I can get the ROM file onto the card from the computer? Can I download the latest AT&T Stock ROM and flash it via Odin?
What your saying is flash a ROM from the external SD card?

No, with the file I told you to download you do not need to have a SD card because you can't boot into the rom you have Windows will not recognize the phone like normal to drag and drop to it. So with this file you can save it to your computer, Open Odin, put your phone into Download Mode, plug it into the computer so that Odin detects it. Then Click PDA and browse to the file you downloaded and tell it to use that file and then Run the process and it will install the original rom onto your phone.

Ok I did the process with the file you referenced. Everything succeeded in Odin with no errors. It's still stuck on just showing the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen but now without the blue cyanogen? What is wrong with this phone??

Can you get into recovery mode by any chance? If you can do that then it should be possible to do a factory reset from within Recovery Mode and possibly get you past the boot screen. If that doesn't help let me know and I will see what else I can find out for you. Also what all did you have checked and unchecked when you Ran Odin to reinstall the Stock Rom? If you had any of them other than Auto-Reboot on that may also have caused a problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686 here is a forum that will show you how to use Odin. I apologize for not remembering about telling you what to check and uncheck. But try recovery mode first and do a factory reset and if that does not work, redo the odin install this time only having Auto-Reboot checked.

Thanks man! I went back into Recovery and did a factory reset/wipe data and it finally got past that screen. Thanks again for your guidance and help. Any ideas as to what could have possibly caused the issue in the first place? I do want to re-root the device again and I am assuming my best bet is to flash a Stock ROM like you referenced with ROOT injected? What order should I follow, flashing a Stock w/Root injected...and then the Recovery of choice? Or vice-versa? What do you recommend?
Again, your timely responses were greatly appreciated. Was really worried I would have to take it to ATT.

It could have been several things that could cause the ROM to do that. I recommend that you make sure that your Bootloader is up to date and then go from there. Download the newest CWM, do a backup of your current rom so that you can flash back to it if you phone messes up. Then when you try to install a new ROM make sure you Wipe: Data then Cache, then Dalvik Cache in Advanced then Format /System. Then from there Install the new Rom, then install the correct GApps, then wipe Cache and Dalvik cache then Reboot into System. It takes messing up a few times to get it right but as long as you follow the guides pretty close and keep a good backup that you know works or keep the knowledge of how to Inject the Stock Rom to your phone when it messes up you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Sounds good. Thanks for the info. Obviously the device is not currently rooted or did the Factory Rom file you gave me have root injected? Do you have a recommended way of achieving Root with the Samsung SG3? Just installing a custom Recovery won't achieve Root, correct?
Thanks!

BTW, how can I confirm I have the most recent bootloader version? It looks like my phone's current baseband version is i747UCDLK3. I did download the boot_CWM_i747UCDMG2.zip file and put it on the internal storage. Do I just want to flash that file to update my bootloader?
Thanks again!

Yea that is the newest baseband and yea you just flash it. As far as rooting the phone and everything I recommend this forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839 It has just about everything you could need to know!

Thanks for the information. The phone that has been all screwed up and the reason I posted a thread in the first place is my gf's GS3. I have her's rooted again and running. I am going to update her baseband version and then install a custom ROM so she's up to 4.3.1. As far as mine goes, I have been fine. I myself also still have the outdated bootloader version. Is it ok to just flash that update for the bootloader without it doing anything wrong? I'm asking this since I'm rooted and running a custom ROM with no current problems. In other words, I don't want to end up saying "it wasn't broke, why did I mess with it" ? I did bookmark that thread you referenced in your last message. Damn that thread is LOADED with just about everything one would possibly need to know about Android and making it their own.
So my g/f accepted the OTA update today (not knowing obviously) and she got updated to 4.3 via AT&T, unfortunately!! I attempted to flash the latest Liquid Smooth ROM and I continue to get a FAILED message during installation. It mentions a bunch of bootloader numbers ( I am assuming the only ones this ROM is compatible with?) So is there any way to roll the bootloader back to a compatible one or just go a different route for the custom ROM?
Also, I attempted flashing the file to update my baseband yet when I so into the device, it doesn't show as having the updated version? Is there a different way of doing it or maybe a different file?
I'm not to sure about the troubles that may come about since your gf went with the 4.3 OTA but If I am not mistaken it will need to be downgraded before you try doing anything else to it and if it is not showing that you updated your bootloader on your phone I recommend grabbing the App called Root Checker to double check then look for another file, tho unless it failed it should have updated it or messed up your phone one.

I need a stock rom

So I was able to lean how to root my phone. The I decided I would load a custom rom that I got from one of the rom tools that was suggested here. I loaded it, it got stuck on the loading screen. So I tired to use philz to do a recover and it says there is nothing to recover. every stock rom I get on this form will not load. the only option I have is to load the zip file to my sd card and then try to load it from the sd card. so now what? right now im completely out of a phone

i was quite tired last night and wanted to put more info in the post here on what i did. So this custome Rom I cant remeber the name of it but it had to do with the little android dressed up as a viking, i got as a recommentdation from the applicatio cybermoid or something to that nature. So when it attempted to load the rom it when to the boot up screen and just sat there, So i figure I would do one of the clock work mods recoverys that I had on my sd card and it failed to load. So at one point Philz asked me if i wanted to wipe the current rom and replace it with a new one. So i said yes figring that I could load the stock rom and it said that loaded. So last night I stayed up and tried to load 3 different roms and they all failed to load. Im wondering an this point if there is anything that can be loaded. I do remeber at one point it came up with a screen that said oden mode and said voided warrenty. i dont have a warrenty so i disregarded that. I will try the rom that you have suggesst tonight, I really hope that I can get some type of ROM on there. Beacase right now it just goes to the galaxy note 2 screen and sticks there.
Is there a manual key sequence or command line that can be run for my skipsoft tool kit that i used to root it to automatically turn on the us debugging? Also remember seeing a message that states that the root was removed. I think in in a hot pile of dog poop and this point, Any other suggestion if that rom doesnt load???
Thanks

Ok so drop the ROM on the SD card, obviously plug it in go to recovery mode via the volume up/home/power key then selected it SD card and it sould load automatically. This is going to sound stupid but the ROM has to be zipped on the SD and not unzipped correct? If I get a error meaage I will post it here. I will probley be doing this around 5 pm or 6 as I am at work at the moment.
Sorry to be such a newbie..lol rooting it was easy if and when I get back into it I will put the full name of the ROM that blew it up because I dont want to have anyone else to go through this.

Download the rom
Wipe everything but the sd1 and the modem
Flash the rom
And let it boot
And let me know what happens
did all that and it is just sitting on the Samsung galaxy note screen
so for this one http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...6-t0lteatt.zip it loaded it and then got suck on the main galaxy note 2 screen.
For http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...lteatt.zip.md5 it failed. Re Ran ]http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_A...6-t0lteatt.zip and worked but before I rebooted it it states at the top that the root is missing or broke. rebooted and still the same stuck on the samsung screen
Ok im goig to go with im screwed on this one as Ive been all over this form looking looking at how to fix this phone. the only thing I can get into is the philz and do a data reset/ wipe the dalvik cache and load the philz touch recovery then when I try to install any zips beyond that it fails so at this point I have no idea where I am going and if I am doing it properly. when trying to install the ODEN-UCUCNE 5 stock-no recovey zip it finds it, opens it and then fails.
so im pretty lost at this point either im not doing it right or the phone is bricked.. any other suggestion? I looks like im going to be buying a new phone

No do everything on the phone don't use Odin so in the recovery go to mounts and storage and
wipe the system, data, preload, cashe, boot, and sd card but not the sd1 (external sd) and reboot the recovery in power options and hit reboot recovery and hit no when it says something about supersu root process then when it reboots just hit install zip and find the rom you downloaded

ok so
1)factory data reset
2)wipe cache partition
3) go to advanced and wipe the dalvik cache
4) then I went to the sd card and installed the zip you gave me, it says install from the sd completed press any key to continue
5) when to power options and hit reboot to recovery
then it asks me if I want to restore the recovery settings from the card or no - I said yes
then it asks me if I want to apply the root from /system/xbix/su- I said no
it rebooted back to philz touch
now what??? I assume install rom zip..
what is the correct ROM download that I should use... ive downloaded so many if you can point me to the right link that would be steller
