[Q] [Force Close] Parandoid Android - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

"Process com.android.gallery3d has closed"
I get this error when attempting to edit any photo that I had in my external SD card on latest Paranoid Android.
_Device Information_
Model number : SGH-T999
Android Version : 4.2.2
BaseBand Version : T999UVDLJC
Kernel Version : 3.4.53-cyanogenmod-gf537623
Paranoid Android : 3.69
Build # : pa_d2tmo-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39
I have tried reflashing the rom, factory wiping, system wiping, cache wiping, d.cache wiping, internal storage wiping, etc.
The only thing I have not done is wipe the external SD because I don't actually want to lose any information; I'd be willing to do just that if that were to fix it, but I want to know why.
So, has anyone had any success with figuring this out in the past?
I have google-fu'd my brains out, searched this forum and found a post about the then-experimental 4.2 camera's build.prop causing problems which crashes under different circumstances.
Respect

I'm assuming that you mean it works fine on internal storage? If so then it is your sdcard most likely.

I took your suggestion and did two things:
1. Changed the camera folder to internal storage
2. Removed Sdcard and replaced with formatted one
Attempting to edit the pictures taken on the internal still resiulted in the force close, and attempting to edit the pictures in the external restulted in the force close.

Have you checked the rom thread? Sounds like it may be a rom issue? Try a different rom?

I looked, but when I tried to post, I was told I did not have the requisite posts to contribute...
I could try another rom, but that would probably mean that the class is respected in the new ROM and not in PA...

I found a solution, and I came back so I can be "that guy"
Step 1: Download http://cdn.androidcentral.com/sites/...leryGoogle.apk
Step 2: Remove the existing Gallery apk from /system/apps
Step 3: Touch the GalleryGoogle.apk you just downloaded and install it.
Step 4: Enjoy.

Insufficient storage?

Every time I try to download titanium backup from the market I get an insufficient storage message, even though I have plenty of space on my sdcard AND internal storage. I'm running cm9 with ns4g modem and nyan kernel. Anyone else having this issue, or know a way to fix it? I reallyyyy need to back up some of my app settings.
If you searched u would have found my thread from a few weeks ago with the same problem lol.
Use root explorer (or any file manager that can go to the root of ur phone)
Go to data/apps and look for com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-1.odex and delete it. Then instal it.

It finds orphaned files and allows you to delete them.

I'm having the same issue with some other apps but I'm not getting the storage error.
Just can't install to USB or sdcard.
I even use sdmaid.

Not all apps can be moved to Sd card. They need to be written correctly for that.

lol yeah and sd maid will only delete the odex file if it is not linked to the app, ie:uninstall the app, reboot then run sd maid. that should delete the unused odex file
Or you could buy the app and stop using that other app to pirate it.....

you dont have to [ass][me] but this DOES happen on legit versions as well. TB hanging and a battery pull could cause this as well, odex files are easily corrupted through normal legit ways too.

Need help reversing apps2extsd!

This mod really messed up some how.... i cant figure out how to reverse it. I cant delete the file it says to delete as it said deleting file failed. I removed the SD card and it shows my device which is now stuck on sdcard0 and no longer device. When i try to put the card back in my phone i blocks the sdcard0 out and shows i have 2 directories for extsdcard.
these were in the mod post.
""""
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).

Install a new ROM. It will overwrite your old one and the internal memory and SD card will be corrected.
Did that. Now it says sdcard0 sdcard1 extsdcard

I deleted it from my phone after I installed and decided that I didn't like it.
You'll need a file exploring app. I used Root Explorer. I think Astro File Explorer might do the same thing?
With your file exploring app, navigate to the following file:
/system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd
Delete the file. (11extsd2internalsd)
Once deleted, reboot.

Actually, just saw that you had already tried deleting that file. Make sue you have enabled your file exploring app to be able to read and write, rather than being read only.
If all else fails, I'd PM the member that wrote this mod.
His user name is Zedomax.
Or you can send him a Tweet via Twitter @zedomax

[Q] Phone Storage is near Full, but wait...

Hi, I searched the forum and didn't seem to find much on this, only on "fake notifications" of low space when there is space.
My problem is a little different, my phone reports almost nothing being on it, but my available space is only 1.32 Gb out of 12 available.
When adding up the things stored in it though, it gets only to about 5 Gb (see print screen). Where is the rest of this stuff coming from? How can I clean it safely?
I am running Frosty JB v7 currently, on stock li7 kernel. And i have barely any apps installed.
My guess is the files from apps I installed prior to flashing Frosty JB are still there somewhere, even though i did a factory reset. (i had a few big games like Shadowgun, nova 3, Riptide GP, and a few more, lots of smaller games too. If this is the case, how can I remove them safely? )
Guys, i'm sorry about bumping my own post like this, but please, can anyone help?

First off, do you have any items in your recycle bin from your internal storage? If so, empty your recycle bin and check your storage. Secondly, check inside your internal storage for your CWM or TWRP folder. Check to see how many backups you have located in those folders, because twrp and cwm wipes wont delete nandroid backups. Do a factory wipe from stock and you should be good.
Did you wipe system before installing your current rom?
I think mattedwards2686 has your ansewer, nandroid backups.

I had the exact same issue on my G2X. Wiping everything including system fixed it. Make a backup of your apps and stick them on your pc for safe keeping. Wipe/format everything. Install your favorite rom and reinstall your apps with titanium backup.

Format sdcard0?

Hey guys.
I am curious if it is possible to delete the data on sdcard0. I notice the more I flash the less my free space gets. Im down to 7gb free. Is this normal? Am I just being anal about my free space?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
yes, you are being anal about your free space; I have 5 gigs left, which is more than enough
depending which rom you are on/plan on moving to, you may be able to delete the files on "0", but I don't think I would delete the files on "sdcard0"
You might have both a "sdcard0" directory, and a "0" directory; I have deleted the files in "0", but NOT on "sdcard0"
I do have a "0" folder located at data/user/0 is that the one youre reffering to? Just delete the folder or its contents? I notice everything in 0 is a copy of my whole system.

no; only delete the "0" directory that you might find inside of sdcard0; data/user/0 probably is holding all of YOUR data files now(hence the location being "user"(you)
delete things one at a time, then reboot, and see if everything still works as expected..easy peasy, not a mass delete that you might regret..
Although if you do a backup first of your rom, you can always get it back to where it is now..
Will do. Thank you
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
no probs...take your time, and post when you can about what you did and if it worked, as a lot of people are puzzled about these new directory structures that show up on our phones now, when you load/unload 4.2.2 AOSP roms..
Well I know for sure when I came back from asylum I had to copy the 0 contents manually to system after flashing from asylum to jedi.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Ok. In data/user/0 I deleted com.pandora.android and pandora FCd then I rebooted and the file was recreated in data/user/0/com.pandora.android
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
there is a file you flash when going from 4.2 AOSP roms back to 4.1 stuff that is supposed to restore your directory structures, but, if you forget to do it one time, and then try to use it later, it doesn't seem to do anything..
no biggie, as you see, as long as you keep track of where your stuff might go, and, as before you can try to delete duplicates and see if your current rom is working properly.
here is that file for anyone who wants to try it
So in theory I could flash an aosp rom and then flash another rom then flash this zip with the fix?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Hey I was running through this forum cleaning up some posts and came across your thread. Thought I would drop this here for you to check more about the new file structure. Granted it is in the SGS3 section, but principles are the same.

Wase ~ I might check out that zip that you posted above. Care to point me to where you found it? Seems very, very handy thing to have, but I would want to look into it more as I have an SGS3 and not a NoteII.
I'm a Mod, so people generally don't like me but for anyone who still might, this'll surely push you over the edge. Go Yanks!!!

I found it a while ago in one of the CM10.1 threads..probably Madmacks..
the problem with it is that if you don't do it EVERY time you go back to 4.1 stuff, it doesn't do anything the next time you try it..
Might just be my phone, but that's how it went for me..

yeah wase4711 is correct. Thats where I saw it originally in the 10.1CM Nightly thread in this ATT Note II forum.
I did it the correct way that wase and Madmack posted but never checked to see if it did anything. Never really paid attention. Went from CR to CM10.1 to Rootbox then back to CR then flashed that. Nothing bad happened but I dont really trip off gigs since I have 64 in my external.
It seems to work like it is supposed to. It puts my main storage back in storage/sdcard0 after returning to a TW rom.

Backup/Restore issue

When ever I backup my stock ROM (touchwiz) and I decide to restore it at a later point, I find that my google account has been deleted and sometimes the phone.apk is also missing. There is not even and option to add my google account back. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also I am using TWRP recovery.

I've had this happen before using certain Roms, what ROM are u using? Some Rome don't like to be restored, or I u can try making a separate backup for data, sometimes that helps, there is also a new twrp v2.6.6.0 available, u could try updating to the newest version, sometimes if your recovery is out of date it won't restore correctly, especially with the newer twiz roms
