Backup/Restore issue - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

When ever I backup my stock ROM (touchwiz) and I decide to restore it at a later point, I find that my google account has been deleted and sometimes the phone.apk is also missing. There is not even and option to add my google account back. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also I am using TWRP recovery.

I've had this happen before using certain Roms, what ROM are u using? Some Rome don't like to be restored, or I u can try making a separate backup for data, sometimes that helps, there is also a new twrp v2.6.6.0 available, u could try updating to the newest version, sometimes if your recovery is out of date it won't restore correctly, especially with the newer twiz roms

Any stable JB update?

I really want to flash a JB rom but i keep seeing that other software needs to be reinstalled. Just wondering if there was any JB rom that is close to factory as far as installation? EX. AT&T newest ICS OTA update. I used a modified version but installation went very smooth. I see so many roms but some issues with them an other things that need to be reinstalled.

Flashing any firmware on your phone has inherent danger to it. If you feel nervous about, just wait until att pushes the official JB update. If you don't want to wait, just do a lot of research first.
Screen flicker?

I was scared to flash a rom on my phone so i decided to flash my kindle with a JB rom. It worked great minus that i had to reinstall all my apps and my data got erased. So my question is, now that i know how to install a rom and Gapps... is there anyway to flash a rom without loosing all my data? What do i use to update this info?

Purchase Titanium Backup Pro from the play store. Great app. You can back up all of your apps and app settings there (dont backup/restore the system settings though) and then when you flash the new rom, install titanium on that, and restore the backup
Is that the only program that does that? How about astro?

Go Backup did for free, but they made some changes and Im not sure how they work now.
You'll have to look around for an app that will backup/restore apps and data.
Titanium backup is the best though.

Titanium is also free the last time I used it before purchasing the free version made you manually restore each app. (not to big of a deal just time consuming) Just remember to only restore apps no system data. As for SMS there are a lot of SMS backup apps. I use my backup pro for SMS

You should try titanium backups sms backup feature, it saves the pictures from sms also. A lot of the other apps I've used don't or corrupt them :highfive:

[Q] A few questions (JB,Modem,Backup)

Hi folks, a few questions if you guys have any thoughts. I'm new to the GS3 (came from the G2X) so bear with me while I try to refigure all this out.
1) I have FrostyJBv4 on my phone now. I want to go to v6, but I hate downloading everything again. I have TiBackup and I used it before, but I felt like there were some random glitches/incompatibilities when I tried to do the restore function and put everything back. Is there a way to just have the appstore just send everything to my phone automatically. I'm hoping there might be an app to download everything from the app store. So basically, I want to just have everything come back fresh onto my phone, without any settings or anything like that. Is that possible, or is TiBackup my only recourse?
2) Regarding the App Store, is there a way to delete apps that I had gotten from there that I would never want to use again. I hate looking at "All Apps" and seeing the more useless stuff still listed there.
3) Modems: referring to this thread. The latest modem is dated 10/17/12 but is listed as ICS 4.0.4. If I had this, would this cause any issues with JB, or should I just have the modem from 9/17/12 that is for JB 4.1.1?
Thanks all

1) Is hit or miss for me, but if I am correct I think it will link to the playstore and download all your previous app's on the new version of FrostyJB_V6.
2) Follow the link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932542 for the new Playstore apk that will allow you to permanently to delete the apps you will never use again.
3) I have tryied all ROM's for the TMO S3 and have played around with all the diffrent modems. They are all compatible as long as they are for TMO S3. you can interchange the ICS and JB modems. I would use the MAP feature in the link to the page you posted (DocHoliday flashable modems).
Damn Android_Monsters your fast, beat me to it....lol
2) I just went to all apps and clicked on a live wallpaper and it asked me if I wanted to uninstall it. So you could do it one at a time.
If you ran across that app while searching the playstore it would say purchased, however, if using the same account

Or just dirty flash and save yourself the trouble of backing up your apps. Not sure why it's such a taboo subject around here. It's like the myth of wiping everything 3 times does any good at all. Anything past wipe number one is wasted time. Defies logic.

If he didn't give a specific reason, dirty flash it anyhow. A lot of devs tell you to do it because someone will try to go from ICS to JB without wiping and wonder why it won't work.

Yeah, I was wondering if there was a way outside of TiBackupPro, which I have. I just don't fully trust it. But that's probably because when I did it before, I probably saved settings and that played a role in mucking it up.

I already have this version apparently, but I hadn't seen that feature. Very cool. It's too bad there aren't checkboxes where you can do a batch removal from the appstore. Glad it's in there regardless.

I've had bad experiences with this, but again, could be and probably is chalked up to user ignorance, but I definitely didn't try going from GB to ICS or anything before. At least I hope I wasn't that much of a noob. But I don't mind being safe, especially flashing BB at the same time.
If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure he recommends it whenever he either changes his base builds (its a mixed base) or makes enough changes to where it could cause issues restoring data. Plus the jb builds are leaked/experimental so you just can't tell what may happen with some random app.
That said, you always can dirty flash, but if you have bugs or run into a problem its better to wipe and reflash before reporting issues.

1) I haven't tried the first thing you asked but I use go backup pro it's a freeware and the best thing about this app is when you're restoring apps it won't ask for your permission meaning you won't have to hit install on each app I know Titanium does that too but last time I checked that option was only available in paid version
2) If you are root then you can get a lot of apps that will un-install apps even if the apps that you can't uninstall normally but be careful when you uninstall system app
3) No it won't cause any issue, infact I am using that modem right now and I am on 4.1.2 JB ROM

[Q] Phone Storage is near Full, but wait...

Hi, I searched the forum and didn't seem to find much on this, only on "fake notifications" of low space when there is space.
My problem is a little different, my phone reports almost nothing being on it, but my available space is only 1.32 Gb out of 12 available.
When adding up the things stored in it though, it gets only to about 5 Gb (see print screen). Where is the rest of this stuff coming from? How can I clean it safely?
I am running Frosty JB v7 currently, on stock li7 kernel. And i have barely any apps installed.
My guess is the files from apps I installed prior to flashing Frosty JB are still there somewhere, even though i did a factory reset. (i had a few big games like Shadowgun, nova 3, Riptide GP, and a few more, lots of smaller games too. If this is the case, how can I remove them safely? )
Guys, i'm sorry about bumping my own post like this, but please, can anyone help?

First off, do you have any items in your recycle bin from your internal storage? If so, empty your recycle bin and check your storage. Secondly, check inside your internal storage for your CWM or TWRP folder. Check to see how many backups you have located in those folders, because twrp and cwm wipes wont delete nandroid backups. Do a factory wipe from stock and you should be good.
Did you wipe system before installing your current rom?
I think mattedwards2686 has your ansewer, nandroid backups.

[Q] restored stock rom issues

So I kinda messed up, now I have a couple issues I did an app backup but not a full system backup using the S3 toolkit I found on the forums, rooted using clockworkmod, then installed cyanogenmod. Decided I didn't like it as much, partially because I couldn't get my visual voicemail back and also because of the difficulty I was having with a few of the features (too bad, it ran extremely fast). Anyway, I downloaded the correct stock rom for my device and flashed it, then tried to do recovery of the app backup I made earlier (which worked on cyanogen in reinstalling all my apps, btw)
Here is where issue number one is. Whenever I try to run this backup file in the toolkit I get an error when it sends the backup request to the phone:
"adb: unable to connect for backup"
How do I fix this? I don't want to have to manually reinstall everything, I already have to put my contacts back in manually because not everything is on kies or my t-mobile account
EDIT:
Flash 11 in the play store says it's not available for my device, and when I checked for updates in the system settings it said that my device has been modified to updates are not available
So in the meantime I decided to start reinstalling some of my apps. Logged into google play on my phone and my computer. On my PC I went to the "My apps" section to get to the stuff I had installed previously and reinstall it through there since it's faster than on the phone, only to start recieving errors saying that my device wasn't connected to my account (yes, I checked on my phone to make sure the right google account was connected to the play store) so now it looks like I'll have to do everything on my phone in the longest way possible.
Any way to remedy either situation?
On a side note, I found it kinda strange that after installing the stock rom and re-rooting the device in an attempt to fix some of the access errors I was getting elsewhere, it set my wallpaper back to what it was before I even started any of this.

[Q] [Force Close] Parandoid Android

"Process com.android.gallery3d has closed"
I get this error when attempting to edit any photo that I had in my external SD card on latest Paranoid Android.
_Device Information_
Model number : SGH-T999
Android Version : 4.2.2
BaseBand Version : T999UVDLJC
Kernel Version : 3.4.53-cyanogenmod-gf537623
Paranoid Android : 3.69
Build # : pa_d2tmo-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39
I have tried reflashing the rom, factory wiping, system wiping, cache wiping, d.cache wiping, internal storage wiping, etc.
The only thing I have not done is wipe the external SD because I don't actually want to lose any information; I'd be willing to do just that if that were to fix it, but I want to know why.
So, has anyone had any success with figuring this out in the past?
I have google-fu'd my brains out, searched this forum and found a post about the then-experimental 4.2 camera's build.prop causing problems which crashes under different circumstances.

I took your suggestion and did two things:
1. Changed the camera folder to internal storage
2. Removed Sdcard and replaced with formatted one
Attempting to edit the pictures taken on the internal still resiulted in the force close, and attempting to edit the pictures in the external restulted in the force close.

I found a solution, and I came back so I can be "that guy"
Step 1: Download http://cdn.androidcentral.com/sites/...leryGoogle.apk
Step 2: Remove the existing Gallery apk from /system/apps
Step 3: Touch the GalleryGoogle.apk you just downloaded and install it.
Step 4: Enjoy.
