Hi all,
I rooted my mini as described in the developer forum. Everything seems to work. However I wanted to use the ROM Manager to make a backup of my ROM.
I am pretty new to Android, but I figured that the ROM Manager does not know how to install the Clockworkmod Recovery on the mini. However - as I understood the rooting - it is done during that process.
So I wanted to do the manual setup within the ROM Manager. I get to the point where it asks me about the version of the CMR (2.x or 3.x). The files of arco68 do look more like a 6.x?
What to put here? Any Idea?
Thanks
Christian

Hello everyone - hope you're all well. So, I took the plunge and rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 - and thankfully succeed. I've also managed to install Lite'ning 6.1 via Odin. I did encounter a boot loop (definitely a squeaky bum moment) but with the help of this site, I managed to sort it out.
I'm now trying to install MIUI - but I'm encountering problems. I follow the instructions to the letter, but when in recovery, the MIUI zip doesn't appear in the list after choosing the option to install from zip on SD card. It's definitely there - it shows in the option to from install ROM from SD card when in ROM manager.
It's not just the MIUI zip it happens to, it happened when attempting to install VilliainROM as well. Can anyone kindly tell me why this is happening? And how I can get round this problem; I'm really eager to try MIUI - as good as the Lite'ning ROM is...
Hi am new to this Customization of Android (Gnex is my first android phone)
I know how to root and and install rom, kernels and etc
What i need to know is the following questions:
- What does it mean someone says you need a rooted phone? (is it something that just enables you to Customize your phone, hence installing custom rom and kernels)
- What does rom means? (is it like a OS on computers)
- What does kernels means? (is it like a software that changes the layout of OS to look like Mac OS)
- What does recovery mode do? (does it help to unbrick the bricked phone)
I may have answered my question but i just want to make sure if i am right
can someone confirm this please?
1) Rooted means having root access on the phone. Root is the equivalent of administrator on Windows. It allows access to the restricted areas of the phone. Basically like jailbreaking on ios.
2) A rom is an OS package. They are essentially variations on the same base code but add features, optimizations or other goodies.
3) A kernel is the software that interface between the OS and the hardware. It controls the cpu, ram, wifi, etc.
4) Recovery mode allows you to install zip files (roms, kernels, etc), backup/restore the phone, and other features. It's used to change roms and kernels normally, but also can be used to reinstall a rom if the phone won't boot.
thanks a lot John
this clears a lot of things
One more question
in order to install custom ROM or KERNEL
Rooted > Recovery > ROM/KERNEL ?
Technically rooting and recovery are independent. Rooting makes flashing the recovery easier, but isn't required - It is possible to flash recovery via fastboot. Any ROM you'll flash should have root built in.
thanks
1 more question
How can i go back to stock rom (one that was right out the box "yakjuux")
let say if i dont like the custom rom's (I couldn't find a factory rom for yakjuux)
Hello,
So I recently bought a new GS3, and rooted it, when I went into Rom manager, and try to use it, it tells me I have to install Clockworkmod, and gives me a list of devices, but the GS3 is not on there, what should I do? I can still reboot into recovery, but anything else it tells me to install cwm, and gives me a list of devices, which doesn't have the Galaxy S3 in it. What can I do to get this working? Thanks.
I had the same issue for over a week. And off course I had CWM (Touch) installed. For me I didnt do anything special to ROM Manager. Just after few Cyanogen flashes my ROM Manager started showing all the options without the previous message.

Yeah I don't know what the deal is, I guess it's not really important because I can still go into recovery, and flash roms with no issue. But I'll see if it just fixes itself out. If anyone has another solution please do share. :fingers-crossed:
hi all,
I am about to flash a custom ROM on Koodo S2X for my in-laws, and since this is not my personal phone, it has to be done right at the very first try (I won't have access to the phone as they are leaving the country with it). I am hoping to get some questions answered first. I am newbie with regard to Samsung S2X, but I have flashed other android phones before (LG P500, 930, etc).
The ONLY reason I am flashing a custom ROM is for the Chinese UI. The stock Koodo ROM only has 3 language UI options (French, English, and Korean). Other minor bugs I would like to address are things like GPS fix, but it isn't that important.
I have used "Any Locale" app available in the Play Store, while it may suffice, it doesn't make the entire UI Chinese.
Also, the custom ROM needs to be stable, as this will be used daily.
I thought the following ROM would be suitable:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849748
This is based on the Koodo ROM. My questions are related to the flashing procedures:
0) I have already rooted the phone,
1) Can someone please confirm that this custom ROM has Chinese locale/UI? If not, can someone please recommend an alternative?
2) What does "fix permission" mean, and how does one perform that? With my own LG P500, it was as simple as wiping and flashing the ROM. Is this the same as under Advanced->Fix Permissions? I am using ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.7.
also,
3) I have downloaded S2 toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26112856#post26112856, installed the .msi, but the program does NOT even lunch (Windows 7, 64bits). any suggestions?
Any help is very much appreciated,
Since that ROM is based on koodo original, I think it has the same languages as the original, so no chinese. I'm using Darthstalker V3 ROM and IMO it's the best daily driver rom. I've attached a screen shot of the languages in it below so you can see if it has chinese support. If you are going to flash a new rom, I would highly recommend switching to TWRP recovery as CWM is known to cause serious issues on our phones. Also, you can try the app called MoreLocale 2 and see if it works for you.
hope that helped

I-f you`re using CWM Recovery other than 6.xx, you must also use Darkside Cache Script. I recommend using TWRP recovery instead of CWM.
-As for S2 ToolKit, it doesn`t launch because you must run it as an administrator -- this usually fixes the problem.
-Fixing permissions can be done in the recovery.
Thank you both for the quick reply. I have flashed the ROM using CWM Recovery. The only problem is that it doesn't reboot/shutdown properly, i.e. the screen is off but the buttons stay lit.
I than switched TWRP using the dd command, re-flashed it and the problem was resolved.

I have installed TWRP recovery but in the process I killed the standard OS. I was intending to put Cyanogenmod 12 on the machine after getting things backed up. Now I can't find the file.
My current build is P5210UEU0CNK1, which is a wifi-only US version.
If that is lacking, are there any recommendations for an alternate? I looked into reinstalling the original file but all the websites require membership.

Officially confused
I know. I'm talking to myself again but I had to say that I am truly confused. I found Cyanogenmod 12.1 for my P5210 tablet. Installation went well. When they say the first boot takes quite a while, believe it. It took two hours to finish updating all the apps. But here's the puzzle:
This thing isn't rooted! It was before I started, or at least I thought it was. I putTWRP on it, and as suggested I installed Houdini and GApp on as well. But Titanium refused to run. Running a root check confirmed it.
I guess I have two questions in my mind. How did I install TWRP and a new OS on a tablet that wasn't rooted. Or, if it was, why isn't it now?
flashing new roms removes roots on most devices unless said rom is pre-rooted. To my knowledge rooting is only initialy needed to install TWRP or CWM. After i think you can flash new roms and such without root and so root is only needed if you want to run apps with root like es file explorer or titanium backup and such.
If you want your tablet to be rooted again download this supersu file from chainfire
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU
And flash it in TWRP, after that you should be rooted again, it works for me on my galaxy tab 3 and kindle fire hd 7 whenever i flash a new rom and lose root
