MIUI Install problems - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello everyone - hope you're all well. So, I took the plunge and rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 - and thankfully succeed. I've also managed to install Lite'ning 6.1 via Odin. I did encounter a boot loop (definitely a squeaky bum moment) but with the help of this site, I managed to sort it out.
I'm now trying to install MIUI - but I'm encountering problems. I follow the instructions to the letter, but when in recovery, the MIUI zip doesn't appear in the list after choosing the option to install from zip on SD card. It's definitely there - it shows in the option to from install ROM from SD card when in ROM manager.
It's not just the MIUI zip it happens to, it happened when attempting to install VilliainROM as well. Can anyone kindly tell me why this is happening? And how I can get round this problem; I'm really eager to try MIUI - as good as the Lite'ning ROM is...

Cyanogenmod and other Rom Issues

I have a Cellular South CDMA HTC Desire. I have had problems flashing roms to the device. The only rom that I have successfully flashed is Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 CR. The first time I installed it, it went into a boot loop at the Cyanogenmod boot screen. I fixed itself after a force reboot.
Now, I can not install any rom without the device getting stuck at the HTC boot screen. The only exception is Cyanogen but it does get stuck in a boot loop at the Cyanogen boot screen.
Each time I try to install a zip from SD, I do a factory reset and wipe the cache. The last time I tried to install a rom from flash, I wiped the dalvik in addition to the others.
If anyone have any ideas as to what I am doing wrong, I would appreciate your input. I am a newbie at this.
Thanks!
Hi,
Something similar happened to me recently. Fortunately, before flashing I made complete backup of my Desire. Nothing helped me but restoring from backup.
If you do not have a backup (it's always a good idea to make backup before playing with your phone), you can try the following:
- boot your device without SD card
- flash any ROM and boot wihout SD card
- try to flash with stock ROM
If nothing helps, i'm out of idea...
One thing I know is GSM ROMs will not work on CDMA Desire. Make sure its a CDMA ROM when you dowload, the cyanogen rom you linked is, there is a MIUI ROM that is CDMA also, very few out right now. If anyone knows of others it would be awesome to know of them.

[Q] Tried to install lightOrange ROM and gio gets stuck at loading screen.

Hey guys!
Sorry if this matter has already been approaced, but... i wouldn't know what keywords to search for.
I have a Gio, that came with gingerbread 2.3.4 and was updated to 2.3.6 via samsung update app.
Due to veeeery low internal storage i need a lighter rom so i thought of LightOrange v7. Wasn't keen on it but something had to be changed.
My device wasn't rooted, so i made no backups of any apps or the rom that was already on it, nor did i have any rom managers installed.
I went into cfw (i understand it's called - power button + home key) and from there i selected update from sd card. The new rom installed with the pretty interface, and when it was done it told me to reboot.
At startup, the first startup screen appeeared (the one where "samsung" is the only word) and then went to the second screen (where it says ~samsung galaxy gio S5660) and it got stuck there.
I entered the cfw again, and did a factory reset, clear cache, reinstall and so on, but all i get is the phone getting stuck at that second startup screen.
So... what is there to do?
Will another rom placed on the sd card -> installing from cfw do the trick? or is my path to repairing the device longer?
Hey
I'm not sure if installing a new rom over the old one will help, you can always try I guess
But you can also just start for scratch and just get your phone back to stock rom using this guide: THIS
And if I'm understanding you correctly you didnt install any recovery to backup and install the custom rom? Because I think you're going to need CWM as recovery.
Hope it helped
Solved.
Installed clockworkmod from sd card, using the default "update from sd card'".
And from there installing a rom was as simple as it should be
It would have been usefull if someone had given me this solution as a reply to my thread...

[Q] Need help with my phone

Hello everyone!
Today I had the weirdest issues that ever happened to me. I updated a cm theme I have through the play store. My phone started acting weird so I decided to reboot it. Right after the reboot it got stucked in the boot logo, then I decided to recover with TWRP to the last backup I have to fix my issue. I tried three different backups and they failed to install. That's when I decided to start from zero and flash a clean carbon rom copy/gapps, etc (BTW I wiped the memory). Now when I start my phone I get a play store error and it seems that from the file manager my phone is not recognizing the internal memory and the SD card, but from TWRP Recovery (the one from UP+HOME+POWER) it does. I already tried flashing CM11 and Carbon with no luck. Also, when I flashed the clean copy I had the boot logo from the previous Rom. So to my understanding it flashed the clean rom but some elements from the "old" one I had still running.
If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advanced!
UPDATE:
So I did a complete wipe of the internal memory and it worked perfectly.
What I think is that updating a theme while is active can mess up somehow your phone. Next time I will change my theme to the default one, update, then apply the updated one.

[Q] Help with installing a ROM.

Hi all
Hopefully someone will be able to help me here as have spent all day going round in circles and finally decided I need to stop stabbing in the dark and ask for help from people who know what there doing.
My son has a Sony Xperia M (C1905). He's always running out of space with all the games he likes to play on it so I thought I would move them to a removable 8GB SD card for him. After downloading and installing a app that should have allowed me to move them I was still unable to so I did a Google and found out that its not possible with this phone with out rooting it.
At this point I started looking into how to do it and found out I needed to unlock my boot loader. I used this site (developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader) to get the code required and used the code in "Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde V0.9.18.1" to unlock it with out any problems. When I restarted the phone it would get stuck on the operator logo (Three UK) no matter how many times i restarted it or pulled the battery out.
Since then I have tried various different ROMS for the Xperia M, both installed via the CWM (zip file) and via the flash program (ftf file), also I have tried a few different versions of the CWM. All of this has got me no closer to getting the phone working again. I either get errors while trying to install the ROM or it installed fine and just goes into a boot loop.
I don't believe I have bricked the phone as I can still do everything on it (flash more, fastboot mode, format etc in CWM) i just cant get the phone to boot up correctly. Also drivers are installed on my pc fine so dont think its a problem with that either. I do think it cold just be not using the correct ROM, CWM, KERNEL?
Would someone please be able to help me out here and give me a step by step guide of what I need to do (in simple terms) along with what files to use. I'm not after the latest Android version as long as its a recent version, the only thing it has to be able to do is move apps to the SD card.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi,
You will need to flash the phone with the stock firmware.
Here is the topic that explains how to do it using Flashtool and also contains links to the firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
Once your phone is unlocked, you can follow this topic to install CM11 on your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584956
and lastly, this tutorial will help you use your SD card as an internal storage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711280&page=2
Thank you so much for your reply.
I was just coming to say that I had somehow managed to get CyanogenMod 11 rom installed and working fine (all be it with a lot of apps like play store etc missing. Do i have to install them after?)
ill have a look at the links you provided as well. thanks

If everything is working properly then you just apply the topic on the swap (last point of my first post), there are several method for each variant (which is on stock rom or CM11)

Unable to Install ANY custom roms onto my m919

I am a frequent experience Android user and have been flashing Roms since like forever.
Owning gs4 been nice installing Roms all the time however recently when I went to install new gpe ROM (new kernel seemed prime to have) coming from HDrom rls20 I downloaded currupt zip. When I tried installing currupt zip (not knowing yet it was currupt) it gave me red errors not allowing me to proceed.. Then, I turned off device got fresh dload and made sure md5 sum was legit and it was tried again of course first factory data reset with advanced system wipe the ROM proceeded to aroma installer this time.. Attempting to install I chose all my settings and it went to progress bar to install and skipped any system extraction and went straight to Apks.. Batch completed and I hadn't a ROM installed for it took it 5seconds.. I have had this problem in the past before and I sold it they returned it (didn't like condition) and bingo I was able to install Roms again (this was way back in the day with this same gs4) I'm assuming system partition not mounting because also when I tried installing that currupt file it was saying in red unable to mount system and stuff. Luckily I downloaded NK2 firmware (took 8hs) and am fine on stock but I'm hoping someone has a clue to point me in right direction.. I saw forum of somebody with similar issue their fix was pushing zip via computer adb commands then installing. I'll have to give it a try but sticking to stock for a bit. BTW this happens with every ROM just skips system files in fact cyanogenmod just hhung at installation wouldn't fail or complete. I used TWRP LATEST. Please help developers I'm sure this ones a no brainer for y'all. Except seems like issue only I've encountered for this isn't a popular thing at all on google.
SOLVED

What does it mean to "push adb" a phone's rom? Doesn't Odin automatically flash the selected rom?
