MoDaCo Switch - One (M7) Themes and Apps

Hi all,
Forgive me if this has been posted here already - couldn't find it anywhere.
MoDaCo Switch is now a public beta:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/363797-modacoswitch-beta-8-support-topic/
It installs both Sense and Google Play Edition Roms. Then, from within each, you can flick a switch to change to the other. It is pretty damn neat. It shares one data source, so all apps installed on one rom are available on the other and all changes made in one app are also present when you open the app in the other rom. Furthermore, you can exclude apps that you do not want to share data (for example a launcher - where you way want to have different set ups on the different roms). It is a really clever solution if you can't decide which rom flavour to stick with!
Check it out!
Please Note - I had absolutely nothing to do with the development of MoDaCo Switch. I just wanted to share it in case people hadn't seen it.

I'll try this when you can use your own ROMs because I certainly don't want 2 stock ROMs on my phone with all the bloatware and not customised to my taste. I've just spent a month modding my favourite ROM to have it set up just how I want it so until then, I'll pass.

not yet, the roms have to be made ready for switch first, this will most likely happen over the coming few months,.

Then you get no custom lock screen.
I'm in the same boat you are. I rooted my phone, but at least for the time being, I don't want to use a custom ROM. With that choice comes sacrifices. I'll likely never get a % battery mod or a custom lock screen. Life is full of choices.

then you give up the custom lockscreen without using a third party app.
im trying to root my optimus v but i just made an account and can't post in the thread i want because i need 10 posts.
for me stability of my phone is very important and custom rom doesn't really give me that feeling just yet, there is always something issues going on...
back in the days the reason why i went w/ cm7 vs stock rom is because it was cleaner, now that I have ICS its pretty clean as it comes, developer puts in his own tweaks what he feels is important (may not be important to me) and with that comes some unstable/untested code which i'm not ready to do beta testing
so i'm fine w/ stock rom and i'm loving it, of course someone may not think this way and want to go w/ cm9 nightly or some other custom rom its up to this person (who am I to tell otherwise)
i just wanted to know if maybe i missed something and it can be done with stock rom, but apparently thats not the case (or at least doesn't seems so)
I think you might want to try out one of the custom roms first. I thought that too. But these roms seem to be a whole different level of professionally coded compared to the cm7 days. Aokp to start with, then expand if necessary to paradigm etc. I think you'll be surprised, you're getting stock stability with extras.

What is the need for a custom ROM for this device?

I always run a custom ROM on my phones because of all the bloatware n such. But what is the need really to do it on this device? Stock android is smooth and does everything I need. Battery life is great too. So am I missing out on something by having a custom rom on this device? Convince me!
Well there are simple things that I like about custom ROMs.
I like trying new things. I also enjoy tweaking the various features that are available with most custom ROMs. There is expanded desktop and PIE controls which makes gaming full screen which is really nice. I don't know if you've ever been bothered by this but games always have the bar at the bottom of the screen which is annoying and gets in the way sometimes. Sometimes it is just nice to have a full screen to use even if it means losing some functionality.
To get rid of the google stuff.
Speed, battery life, expanded desktop, theming, tablet mode, etc.
I find it a little annoying that the stock kernel supports NFS, but they've arranged everything to run in a unique namespace so you can't make a NFS mount visible outside the shell where you ran the mount command. I don't really need NFS enough to want to replace the ROM, but I can imagine that being a reason to do so.
Pie
Quiet Hours
Advanced reboot menu
Custom DPI Settings
Making the bars transparent.
And I could just go on and on.
Need? I don't need a custom rom. I want it. Google bare minimum is awesome only to a point.
There isn't so much of a need as a desire. The device stock benches around 5475. With CM and a custom kernal installed I not only have better battery life, and quicker charge - but it benches at 7510.
May I ask what kernel you're using?

In my case I don't need and/or want a custom ROM. I got a Nexus to run and enjoy Android tablet as Google intend to. For custom ROMs I use my SPH-L710 (SGS3)
And even there never keep one more than 10 days, don't like to be troubleshooting every day and a half.
Well that's just me.
Most of the time I keep stock rooted just to use Freedom app.

Yes, your data will be wiped, but not the stock ROM (/system). fastboot oem unlock will basically do a factory reset for security purposes.

Waiting for the roms to reach a certain point in stability and for some step by step guides to go up also on getting from stock to CM or somethin. Also, enjoying some google stock for the first time to..always had samsung so this is new to me(and will be getting my first nexus on next release to)
As someone who has only been on stock or mostly stock phones, I'm not in awe by what stock Android brings to the table. CM is what stock should be while other ROMs go above and beyond in what they offer.

ROM Request: GPE 4.4

Anyone currently working on this rom? FOr some reason AOSP roms run poorly on my phone, but GPE and Sense work great. Is anyone working on porting the new 4.4 GPE Rom?

Its going to take A LOT OF WORK to get it properly built and running smoothly on our device. Im pretty sure he has it running already but doesnt want to put out something with a million bugs everyone is going to complain about. If anyone can do it, its Santod 1000000%...And if his other work on this phone is any indication....it'll be immaculate as usual.

Its not that it doesn't work, it has some very strange lag on my device for some reason. Any AOSP roms do, and Sense or GPE don't.

Any clue as to why 4.2.2 was relatively easy to get running on our device (even without kernel source) while 4.4 requires a lot of work?

1. Our device shipped with Android 4.2.2 already, no kernel work was needed.
2. 4.2.2 Google Edition was mostly stripped down Sense, which is no longer the case.
There are other reasons as well, but I won't go into them, as they are all but behind me now anyhow...I'm almost satisfied with the port. (and no, NO ETA's, lol)

Is the framework for 4.4 still pretty much sense? I feel like if it is too much AOSP it might have that glitch on my device... TikTak had it too.

Can the Sense camera still be installed on the GPE 4.4 like it could on 4.2/4.3? That's the only reason I would switch to it - I hate AOSP camera.

HTC one AOSP roms

So im on an unlocked verizon htc one m8 and want to install an aosp rom. On the verizon forums for this phone, there are not many roms available but here in what i assume is general forums for the phone, there are many. Can i install any rom or does it have to be from the verizon forums specifically for verizon? Also does the same thing apply to kernels?
Check with the individual ROM. For cm it is a universal zip for all carriers. Dunno what the other large devs will be doing when it comes to Verizon. However even if it flashes there isn't one that is daily driver stable in my books (the darn camera bugs). Kernels, no. Those won't be universal Verizon uses different partitions and it will end bad. There's talk of an aosp kernel in one of the threads, Andy's I think, on Verizon. Dunno what will come of it but keep your eyes peeled.

Ok thanks for your help. I see some like liquid I think that's doing a universal build. I was wondering about aospa. And I heard it very blotchy right now with all aosp toms but the awesome devs here at xda will get it done right in no time. Thanks again for your help. Just one more question. If I were to flash a Rom can I just change the kernel to work with Verizon or will it not work at all after flashing a Rom?

I believe they all have the weak wifi and some other issues, The rom's run but you should wait if you're looking for a daily driver. The stock roms run smooth with great battery life.

Umm, this is the kind of threads that you should never think of posting on XDA.. Why the hell did I get a Nexus phone if I'm not gonna flash a new ROM every 2 days? It's fun!
Exodus has built in updater it will notify you of update, download and install. It comes with rom
As well as many others read some threads dude, its all here!
Try Omni rom. It comes with delta updater which allows you to download only the updated part of the rom. Generally size of 10-20mb and is updated on nightly basis. And next time before posting research more and double check on the thread you are posting

Why not just stick with stock? Its stable has monthly OTA updates and can still be rooted if you need to (ive seen no need personally).
Either that or just dont keep updating weekly, find a stable version and stick with it until a feature release comes along.
