I love my nexus 5x, love the community, but would like to select a rom and would like to stay on that, so far i love Cynogen and love it, but i dont like this weekly updating, is there any way we can get a ROM wjhich is stable and can send up OTA. what are your thoughts!!

Ya, stock

/thread

Umm, this is the kind of threads that you should never think of posting on XDA.. Why the hell did I get a Nexus phone if I'm not gonna flash a new ROM every 2 days? It's fun!

Exodus has built in updater it will notify you of update, download and install. It comes with rom
As well as many others read some threads dude, its all here!

Try Omni rom. It comes with delta updater which allows you to download only the updated part of the rom. Generally size of 10-20mb and is updated on nightly basis. And next time before posting research more and double check on the thread you are posting

Why not just stick with stock? Its stable has monthly OTA updates and can still be rooted if you need to (ive seen no need personally).
Either that or just dont keep updating weekly, find a stable version and stick with it until a feature release comes along.

It is.. But why stick with stock when you can try different things and features? It's the main reason I sold my Galaxy S6 edge and went for a 5x, because I got bored.

I do try different things and features. Different Kernel, recoveries, root tweaks, Xposed, mods... all on stock.
And when I get bored, I MultiRom some other rom and then delete it. But Stock remains.

Just flashed resurrection remix. What a nice ROM. Just found my best ROM

I'm coming from an N5, are there any roms at the moment that are similar to Cataclysm ROM from the N5? it's basically stock as far as I can understand, just a lot better performance / battery, and it has an options menu that lets you adjust extra various things.

Nexus is boring...

Hi there
I got a Docomo Nexus. I have a galaxy s2 also. I thought I would had the same challenges here...
Guess what... i installed Cwm. The only challenge for me. Installed latest Akop and for the first time I am not changing a rom from 3 days. Everything works here.
I am getting bored. please give dome directions to have fun and play with my phone.
For example. Is there a kernel that gives somehow better battery life? Any other rom better than Akop? Any substitute for macro feature missing in the camera app?
I used to search for perfection in galaxy S2 and I was switching between cm9, custom roms to find a perfection...please understand me, hope so...

First of all, AOKP is not the best ROM. CM9 is faster and Slim ICS is the fastest ROM with the same features as AOKP.
Secondly, I'd recommend finding something else to do with your time than worry about how your phone is "boring".

Play Frisbee golf with your nexus?
zippity doo da.
Finding the answers to the questions that you asked is half the fun, for me at least. If there was a definitive "best" ROM or kernel there would be very little need for such a development based community. If you are looking for fun I would suggest looking at the market for one of the many games available.

What is true differs for every person. For example, you couldn't pay me to use AOKP (do not ask why, I won't tell you).
Do I believe that any rom is faster than any other? No I do not. Do I believe kernels can change that? Yes I do.

So what do you use? I see you're a developer: do you have your own rom? Pardon my ignorance I'm still new here. Have yet to remember a username and connect that with the work they've done.
If I guess right will you tell me? Do they work for the government and have installed keyloggers so when we say anti obama things to our friends in texts the black choppers will show up at your house, and if you tell anyone they will kill you? If so I wouldn't use it either... Or tell me why
I have gone AWOL as of last release (too much personal business to handle) but I work with a team. We put out BAMF Paradigm. I am but one member, and certainly not the main one.
My reasonings for not using AOKP are not because of that, however
I use Paradigm 1.2 with my own modifications.

i started with AOKP and never regret it, i also tested SlimICS which for sure has not same features as aokp, i also tested liquid which is nice but only english, i also tried cm9, also nice but i miss the aokp stuff in it.
For me AOKP is the best, i always come back to it and now i will stay with it, it has everything i want and just works.
For kernel i use Imoseyons Leankernel which worked for me always the best, i get around 3h also sometimes 3 1/2h screen ontime with it, and over night it loose almost nothing.
I tried also francos kernel, which is also nice, but with it i had sod issues and other stuff, but it is still a good kernel many people love it, i will stay with Leankernel.

Asop/Aokp vs Miui

I have used almost every single AOKP/asop ROM for this phone and have seen the good, bad and ugly. I prefer Xylon and XenonHD more that the rest. I have never used a Miui rom, not sure why.

Wait.. if u have an lte gnex, this could be your issue since the sprint and verison versions get 3rd party ports of the i9250 version.
Anyways, I use miui and, while there is some interface lag compared with aosp, its still a great ROM. Aosp is hideous IMHO, especially since 4.2 came out.

Noup. Im using the OFFICIAL for Gnex MAGURO, build by Xiaomi (The one found HERE). Im flashing 3.1.11, which is the latest according to that site. Using TWRP to flash. Might been a bad download, if you insist that its working fine for you, but i did a little research, and some people were complaining about the same bug, so i thought that it was the rom, not me.
EDIT: Just checked, and i highly doubt its a bad download because MD5 matchs with the one posted on the site.

Ok, got MIUI to work. Seems like its not a good idea to flash the ROM and GAPPs on the same go. I had to flash rom, boot the phone, set it up, go to recovery again, and flash gapps, after that, everything seems to be working fine. Even the browser. Seems like that was the key.

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm definitely checking this out when I wake up, downloaded and ready to go! But just curious, also yes that is toro ported and works just fine.
Edit: Fantastic ROM, has done stuff I've wanted for months.. and that's where it ends. I honestly will not use this ROM until it changes base. AOKP is the worst, that's my opinion but you got yourself a fantastic ROM here. If these apps and various other apks aren't framework dependent then I'll use some in a different ROM.
Again amazing ROM, you have done what I've been trying to do for months and namely the walkman widget is one. I hope you change the base.

EDIT: The lag fixed itself, I dont know what happened. That is fine. Only problem is It wont reboot after first successful boot. It probably is Android Tweaker Pro. It is a great app, but also caused my stock rom to randomly reboot.

To answer a few of your questions. (Im updating thread now to)
1. I do plan on updating to 4.2 just need to update the code a bit and wait for the lockscreen to get ported.
2. Yes its based on AOKP 4.1.2
3. My rom is different because im going to take the time to keep it updated with anything new and im always constantly working on new ports to add to it. Its also more featureful, and its going to support toro and toroplus as soon as i get 4.2 working.
4. WHY YOU HATE AOKP SO MUCH? JK im using any base that i find most stable, im pretty sure im going to switch it for the 4.2 update since AOKP is constantly releasing updates for it and it will be hard to keep up with it.
5. Lag? I really have not noticed any lag besides the Xperia live wallpaper, thats sony's fault for not optimizing the app properly.
This ROM is running great. Loaded lean kernels latest stable 4.8 and all is good. A nice break from AOSP.

Oh, I've never heard of this then lol
The AOKP hate, its opinion but on both devices I've owned they been just so horrible and cheesy.. I don't like that swag button. The features are lacking. Honestly I'm on a stable base of 4.2.2, using Orca. The features are just amazing. I'm guessing because I tried the apks is that a lot of this framework doesn't really work for 4.2.2? I mean this is basically an Xperia ROM. I'm really impressed, I'm really hoping we can eventually get an actual port but I doubt it.
Secretly "I want a W8 port" love the style they use. Call me whacky lol.. But this is awesome you've made a breakthrough, or well your the only person who technically cares to do something like this. So I appreciate it this a lot man.
Edit: 4.1 doesn't bother me, we basically miss out on the status bar features. Just the base.

Just a quick note of congratulations and thanks, +Hyperrunner. I've been with Android since the first G1s were shipped, and this port reminds me of all the really inventive, well-done ports that we saw for the G1 back when other devices and models began to appear. I've been waiting for a really cool port to put on the GNex (which has had excellent but slightly bland firmware as stock from the beginning), and this Xperia port of yours really hits the spot. I think the AOKP base was a great choice. If it plays well with Linux Deploy and continues to be stable, this will become my primary ROM. Thanks a bunch, you deserve donations for your contribution to the Android community!

You say there is Bravia Engine, is it just not a setting and always on? If that is the case, awesome.
Yes, bravia engine is always on its more of a configuration then an app. Its always one and it helps display pictures better.

What is the need for a custom ROM for this device?

I always run a custom ROM on my phones because of all the bloatware n such. But what is the need really to do it on this device? Stock android is smooth and does everything I need. Battery life is great too. So am I missing out on something by having a custom rom on this device? Convince me!
Well there are simple things that I like about custom ROMs.
I like trying new things. I also enjoy tweaking the various features that are available with most custom ROMs. There is expanded desktop and PIE controls which makes gaming full screen which is really nice. I don't know if you've ever been bothered by this but games always have the bar at the bottom of the screen which is annoying and gets in the way sometimes. Sometimes it is just nice to have a full screen to use even if it means losing some functionality.
To get rid of the google stuff.
Speed, battery life, expanded desktop, theming, tablet mode, etc.
I find it a little annoying that the stock kernel supports NFS, but they've arranged everything to run in a unique namespace so you can't make a NFS mount visible outside the shell where you ran the mount command. I don't really need NFS enough to want to replace the ROM, but I can imagine that being a reason to do so.
Pie
Quiet Hours
Advanced reboot menu
Custom DPI Settings
Making the bars transparent.
And I could just go on and on.
Need? I don't need a custom rom. I want it. Google bare minimum is awesome only to a point.
There isn't so much of a need as a desire. The device stock benches around 5475. With CM and a custom kernal installed I not only have better battery life, and quicker charge - but it benches at 7510.

Waiting for the roms to reach a certain point in stability and for some step by step guides to go up also on getting from stock to CM or somethin. Also, enjoying some google stock for the first time to..always had samsung so this is new to me(and will be getting my first nexus on next release to)
As someone who has only been on stock or mostly stock phones, I'm not in awe by what stock Android brings to the table. CM is what stock should be while other ROMs go above and beyond in what they offer.

My Dads nexus 7

First. I hate doing this. I know there is no one best ROM for everyone. But I need a quick answers for tmr morning. But its not a open question. I am looking for a couple things
My 60yo dad wants me to root and put a new ROM on his device
1. Must be stable
2 perform at least as well as stock ROM. No beta or buggy roms
3. Does not need crazy options to customize.
4. Aosp browser, he needs flash for his stoner pot websites.
Have to have all of those
* cm looks like a contender because its over air updatable.
Anyways. You guys are smart and my dad is a bit of a technophobe. So keep that in mind, i have first gen n7 so I know nothing about this device.
Thank you for your charity an opinions!
He won't care about kernels or root apps. We just need to future proof it now and get flash working.
Thank you thank you thank you, please don't flame me. I know that everyone will have a different opinion on best ROM. But this is not a general best ROM question. Need an old man ROM.

try out Minimus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388599
and use the gapps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
with this rom
very stable and no bells and whistles like roms with many addons
I would simply flash a Stock based ROM, custom kernel and remove some Bloatware, install an Adblocker I guess your Dad wouldn´t spend his time with some benchmarks ? I use a customized Stock based ROM myself and don´t miss any features since I use my tablet more productive :cyclops:

Considering his interests, I really recommend keeping him on a stock ROM. Any other ROM will have irritation points I don't think you will want to deal with.
