I do not get this .... are people living for "thanks" nowadays? Will 100 thanks be different than 10 thanks in terms of quality of life?
Anyway, I gave you a thanks ... so you can feel good.
P.S.: You do realize you are not the one opening this thread, right ?

Did I call you out personally? It's called showing appreciation for someone taking time out of their life to help someone like you. Its not going to make life any easier, but the op may decide next time it isn't worth the time to post something out of goodwill if no one appreciates it. Is that hard to understand Sparky?

Did that really upset you Chief? Just because I see someone's effort go unappreciated. You use it then you thank them. Its called manners. We need more of that around here.
I bet if I would have criticized the op in some way I would be getting all kinds of pats on the back. Funny how the world works huh?

I found it actually pretty amusing, actually....hence my note of sarcasm which was pretty darn hard to miss....or so I thought.

To be fair, plenty of people will check this thread, like me, who actually were just curious about the post. I have the Play Store built in and it updates when it needs to so I don't see the need, or situation in which I'd ever need to install this. That's not saying other people won't but I don't need it so why say thanks? I don't thank every post I visit, just the ones I personally find useful or Mods/ROMs I use.
I get that people want some recognition when they've helped somebody, that's just common decency IMO but not everybody is decent. I certainly wouldn't let it bother you as I bet a majority of page views didn't actually result in a download. I agree though that if you answer somebody's question or you post something to aid somebody else, it deserves a thanks but that can't be from everybody who views the topic lol

So you mislead people by trying to take credit for someone else's findings? You should edit your original post seeing as how you have now contradicted yourself. Furthermore, why in the hell do you ask for thanks? What you posted is old news. It's entertaining for an all of 5 seconds. Cool. If people want to thank you then let them but asking for thanks just looks lowly of you.

Biggeron there is no need to be like that, I mean, he asked in the right section and it a legitimate question. I myself have wanted to start developing but I have no programming experience so I didn't even ask. In terms of the ops question, I'd either get on irc and start talking to developers, or use one of the many kitchen tools to start. Also if you don't know java or a similar programming language, I'd start there.
Here is a kitchen that you might want to use.

To be fair there is something up with this OP. He has posted in several places about updating from DK18 to EL30, then asking "what's the best EL30 ROM" You all know I love those, and all of a sudden is in the thick of CM9 running it and commneting on it....now that is some hell of a learning curve for 2 days.

Bahhhh but that sounds like work!
I think the best and most simple way for him to release the fastest, most stable, and most bestest themed ROM is to rip off MarcusantROM and then change the name. You know its true.
Im up for stealing marcusantrom, I think ill calll it irule9000rom and turn it blue.
on another note I didn't realize whats up with the op. I especially like his cm8 thread.

Hey now don't get butt hurt... you should thank the guy for teaching you to search... you have started more pointless threads than I can count since becoming a member... so instead of getting hurt feelings use the search function (google actually works better)... it could save you some time waiting for a response to something that has been answered a million times... and it will save us time because we won't have to read your pointless threads!

That's a bit out of line sir and improper usage of the Google define parameter.
XDA is a great place to ask questions and you should ask as many as you like....after you have made a substantial effort to help yourself first. Forum 101 you might say and something that would have been force fed to you upon account creation here. ESL or not the message would have been undeniably clear. Dishwasher forum, Automobile forum, Mobile Phone forum, Hockey forum or Home Audio forum; you will find this norm at them all.
Welcome to Al Gore's tubes.

True I asked noob questions but I didn't go around posting retarded stuff.... when clearly the answer could have been googled.... and by the way I think my thanks and how many people I've helped overthrow how many people I "might" have offended/bashed according to you I go around raising hell on n00bs because they're a disease....not true I answer most questions that have been multiposted at least 10 times before..
In conclusion, I only said this to him because of the fact that within 5 minutes he posted 3-4 threads on easily googled questions...what do the rules say? Search before posting? Oh what? Weird

Hit the thanks button or don't, it doesn't damage my ego

For some people... like those who have a huge "Don't forget to hit thanks button" sign in your signatures ( you know who you are) , it is all about receving thanks and its some sort of competition. That is just rdiculous.
I don't think that's what the OP is getting at here though ... the point of the Thanks system is to keep.clutter out of a thread. Instead of replying with Thanks just hit the button and keep the clutter out.

Like "like", like...
it's basically like the "like" button on facebook isn't it? I can see how one might enjoy having other people "like" their posts! If anything it's feedback and validation on how useful they're being to the community...
Now riddle me this: how come on some posts there's no "thanks" button, even though other people have thanked the user on that very post?
EDIT: never mind, apparently sometimes the button itself doesn't load up... refreshing the page fixes it...

Yes, this forum is just awesome, and my experiences with moderators is that they are really nice and cooperative. The information here is overwhelming.
I understand the "noob restructions" and that there is no better way to keep this forum clean and manageable.
Just... why do these rules have to be applied to ME? ;-)
For me, it is hard to reach the 10 postings because I am almost exclusively reading in devs forums (I am a dev but not xda). Since I am not able to post there, I have to write dev-related postings elsewhere (where the people who might be interested in the posting usually don't find it). This is not meant as a complaint. Just feedback from a noob.
Anyway, soon I will get there (this is posting number 7)...
One idea for the 10 posting rule: The number could be lower for people after some membership time, for instance, 10 postings for fresh members, 6 postings after 1 month of active membership, 3 postings after 2 months of membership. Just an idea...
A warm welcome to you!
Get the most out of your stay here at XDA.
lol ur getting a good welcome from me cos you switched from i/o'****
Haha thanks for everyone's welcome notes XD.
Yeah, you were right, IT'S A TRAP!!

too much info to be honest. and a lot of it out of date.
i've had to ask numerous times in a 400+ page 2 year old thread if the OP is still the way to do something

Often the best way to find this is to search, but change the sort order to favor newer posts
Though if a device is old enough to have been around over 2 years ago, the manufacturer has probably stopped updating, meaning the method has likely remained relatively still for some time...
Not always, but often must of the big work is done in the early days
I also want to thank XDA to makes my android experience much better with the help from developers! Glad to have joined!
