My brother has used his phone this month and wracked up 25 gigabytes. Twenty five, you heard me right on his mobile data. Mobile. Not WiFi. We have the plan to where it throttles at 5 gigabytes. He's been streaming HD YouTube videos supposedly every day!
Please tell me this is just them not catching it and my mom won't be charged 250$ in overage fees.
25 gigs. Yes I'm positive it's for this month only, I just got throttled last month for going over 5gb barely so what's the deal? I'm scared.

You don't get charged for going over your limit, just throttled, as far as I know. That being said, after the 5GB cap was hit, he should have been throttled back to 2G/Edge, how he managed to rack up that extra 20GB on 2G speeds is beyond me... unless he's rooted, in which case I think there's a way to bypass the throttling.

If you have the unlimited plan don't worry about it . throttling and going over usage doesn't matter they won't charge you for continuing to go over your 5gbs that's just for full speed. If they don't throttle its on their end they won't charge you.

That's what worries me about the unlimited tmobile plan. People using network data as their main internet connection. Tmobile data will probably slow down quite a bit even though they are saying they have the capacity. I doubt it.
To answer the op's question. I use about 2gb/month.

I do between 3 and 8 per month. Usually just under 5 because I don't want to get throttled.
Hi everyone,
I would like to ask if anyone could tell me how slow will the internet speed become when the data usage limit is over. I have 2gigs on T-Mobile and it is almost up. Is it really really slow? Thanks
Maximum speed is about 56 kilobits per second.

Oh thats sucks. Actually my friend has an iphone running on T-mobile but since iphone doesnt support their bandwitch, the internet is reallyyyyy slow. It's edge from the old ages so I'm just afraid it will become the same on my galaxy s3.
1.97 GB so far - around 22 days to go in the cycle. Yeah, I'm gonna need unlimited.

It'll be about the same, probably a bit slower.
The last 3 months I have hit my 2GB cap with about 2-4 days left in the billing cycle. Luckily someone clued me in on calling customer retention and asking for the 5GB plan for the same price as the 2GB plan, which worked! So starting 3 days ago I have the 5GB plan for $20/month, which is plenty for me.
I use about 5GB or so. I have AT&T and use the medianet plan. $10 for unlimited data love loopholes

Don't bet your pants yet, wait a bill cycle and see what shows up, most likely you got a credit for so many months that brings it down to 20. Not that I don't believe you, but I don't believe you it was that simple , post proof!

Use about 2gigs out of my 5 gigs
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I use about 2GB - 3GB out of 5GB plan. I actually went over 5GB last month and throttling is unbearable. all I could so is send tiny emails, no app would work and I had to call them to disable throttling after my cycle ended. In fact when I called I was told they no longer throttle which was not true. in about 2 days they restored the speed.
So about mud day yesterday, I was watching YouTube, all of a sudden everything started buffering no matter what video I watched. Downloaded a couple files and speeds were only 30kB/s. Didn't think anything of it. Thought it was the host. Didn't do much else but use tapatalk and noticed things were a but slow. Did a speed test and it shot up to like 300kB/s then hovered around 30-50kB/s felt that awfully strange.. as that's what would happen on my old throttle plan.
So I went to bed not thinking of it.
Got up this morning and speeds were the same. Stayed the same for the entire day til I got fed up and called T-Mobile. They "said" I wasn't being throttled. And after I *****ed they "reset" my phone on their network and things were back to normal.
Has anyone else experienced like symptoms? I'd hate to think they went this low to throttle us..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Are you sure you have the truly unlimited 4G plan... Or the unlimited data with let's say 2gb, 5gb or 10gb of 4G data.
If you have the truly unlimited data then you shouldn't be throttled. But if you have one of the other three plans where they cap the 4G data then they throttle you after that certain point.
Or maybe t mobile was having issues with your tower and had to reset the connection?

17 gigs? I really don't see how most people can go over 5 without tethering. I use my phone constantly and I've never gone over 2. Even with what I use on wifi, which might be another 2gb, is still not even 5gb's. So, I can only ASSUME you have been tethering, and they figured it out. That would explain the throttle.

You get 100 uses of tethering anyhow. Then they block you. But as psykhotic said get Netflix and watch HD movies and then tell me how much data you use. Not to mention you can download torrents via your phone. And I never use WiFi except for when transferring files to my phone.
But irregardless, it's unlimited, there shouldn't be a throttle period.

No not 100 uses of tethering.
You can use 100 MB before the block you if you already used the work around on the software they have on the phone.
The program by default on the phone though will actually block you right away.
Unless you use a custom APN then you get blocked after 100 MB.
If you change your User Agent on your browser the the User agent of the phone and you won't get blocked.

Soooo.... why not factory reset while on wifi? I don't understand why people treat the network as a substitute for a home network?
And streaming music doesn't use that much data, you'd have to watch 8 or 10 movies on Netflix to hit a gig. Don't tell me you watch 10 movies a week on your phone. I feel sorry for your eyes.
It is the abuse of the system that will do nothing but raise data rates for all of us. Thanks alot people, enjoy your rerun's of Charles in Charge.
Netflix even on the phone does use more then that. A 2 hour movie would be about 600 mb for that one move.

Even on LTE I can't get thru half of a youtube video without buffering for a half hour. It takes 24 hrs to download a 870mb Rom. Ive ran speed tests and they show 20-25mbps speeds but im definitely not getting that. Am I being throttled?
Do you have a high speed limit? If so, that may be the case.
