I just recently purchased a contour roam POV camera. It has no screen to view videos or anything so basically u shoot vids and wait till u get home to see what u got. I want to plug the camera directly into my lgog and have it recognize it as a drive just as my laptop does when I plug it into it. I can then go to dcim/100media and see the videos. Is it even possible to do this? Or is there an app that would make the phone a USB host, so I can see the videos without a PC? Thanks for ideas or help.

You can't mount any external devices to this phone. I can mount flash drives and usb hard drives to my N7, but when LG was designing this phone, they left out the ability for the phone to power the mountable devices.

So is that a hardware issue then?

im currently a gs2 user, very happy with it, but my father wants to grab it from me, plus i can buy a gnex from a frd of mine bnib for a very good price, so i think im gonna switch, a few questions:
1. since the gnex doesnt support external sd card, and i read forums here it wont support usb drive with otg cable, but if rooted, is it possible? what app should i use?
2. i dunno y only gnex doesnt have hardware home (and back and menu) keys, is it annoying that first, the on screen keys consumes some screen real estate (say more dev are writing apps for 1280x720 screen, but software keys consume 64x720 pixels?), and second, would it cause some problems using some full screen apps?
3. tried playing my frds gnex, compared side by side with my gs2, even with different screen resolution, gnex hd screen doesnt show more stuff than my gs2 screen except maybe browser, would dpi mod fix that?
4. is there such a folder called "sd_card" like in my gs2? if not then i lose everything everytime i flash new rom?
thanks in advance

1. its very much supports usb otg, with the cable and root. i got my cable from amazon for about $4. the app i use is stick mount. ive sucessfully connected a 32gb sd card, my kindle fire, and my professional digital camera, as well as a usb mouse and keyboard.
2. with the soft keys being on the actually screen, the usable screen size comes out to about 4.3 inches. the reason the sg2 looks like it can fit more is the width of the screen is slightly more than the gnex. apps do not hide the soft keys and i find that i personally have never hit them, however, videos such as netflix and youtube WILL go to full screen and hide the buttons. a simple tap of the screen will bring them back into view.
3. read number 2 and sorry but i dont know much about dpi resolution. i just know its brillantly beautiful either way.
4. there is a seperate partition on teh internal memory labeled as such when it is plugged into a computer as a media drive. as far as i know now method of flashing will wipe this partition clean minus one of the tools required to flash the android revolution hd rom. this is the only problem i have with this phone. it takes FOREVER to transfer anything to or from a computer.
i hope this helpshttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
You can attach any hard drive via USB as long as it has an external power source, like Mwinggg said you need an OTG cable and Chainfire's Stick Mount. Again, like Mwinggg said, you can also attach a mouse and keyboard.
I've not tried changing the DPI using something like LCD Density changer since I've had the Nexus, you really don't need to. But if you want to of course it will work.
The internal SD card, or 'virtual SD Card' won't be wiped when you flash a new ROM or hard reset the phone. It works exactly the same as the internal SD card does on the SGS II.
thank you both of you, that clears up all my questions
yea i have the otg cable, i love how i can plug in the usb drive from attached to my key chain when needed, i will need it more if i go for the nexus since i have a 32gb msd card in my gs2 which nexus doesnt support
I'm having problems getting my terabyte hard drive connected to my phone with my home made otg cable.
It works just fine with my 2 gig sandisk flash drive, and my USB mouse. So I know it's not the cable.
I'm on Ravers blackedition Rc6 ICS. Just wondering if there's a workaround.
Oh, and I can't get my x-box controller to regester with my emulators, is there an app for that.
Sent from my very own Galaxy.
You need more power to power that external drive. Flash drives do not require that much juice.
Sorry I had to retype the post a few times due to my connection timing out and left some key stuff out.
The terabyte drive is self powered with an AC plug.
When I plug it in it gets as far as telling me that its connected, then reboots my home screen. I go to access the drive and it says its empty.
I can hear the drive working so I guess its scanning media.
If I leave it plugged in it will freeze the phone. And I have to pull the battery or hold the power button. Then I can't access cell or SD card functions. But a few reboots brings it back.

Probably formatted ntfs and the kernel is lacking proper support.
i have the same issue with my 1TB external harddrive. it also has the ac plugged into the wall then i hooked it up to my phone and it showed this...
also mine is formatted to NTFS.
it is probably only reading a fat partition on the external, as mentioned above if the drive is NTFS formatted, your phone probably wont read it.
This is irrelevant but I really don't see the need or the practicality of plugging in a massive (both storage and physical size) hard drive to a handheld device.

All of my music and movies are on the hard drive. its easier to copy the files from drive to the phone, instead of mounting both to the computer and copying that way.

Ok I see, why not get a 64GB SD instead then? Save the trouble of having to plug in your phone to the hard drive all the time.
i broke the screen of my galaxy s3, i reported lost since warranty didn't cover broken screen. im trying to get my picture and if possible my contacts.
phone is not rooted. and usb debugging is off. i tried using Samsung galaxy s3 toolkit v 7.0.0.0 and going to the option back up and restore your device.but usb debugging is off. any help will be appreciated.
Just throwing the idea out here for anyone who has used it before or knows anything about it... HDMI-out?
I've personally never used it, but if it were possible to somehow HDMI-out and view the screen externally; say you were to display your screen onto your TV or PC monitor, while navigating on the touchscreen [assuming it isnt completely busted] you could enable settings to debug/adb and such...
I could be completely off-base with this one though.

Yeah, that's because of security precautions... You need to unlock the device for the files to show up

Awesome. Glad you got your stuff back
So. My sister recently got a Verizon Galaxy S4 (i have no idea what model # or anything, as she lives on the other side of town) and she recently dropped it down some concrete stairs. She ended up breaking the screen (and possibly the digitizer) but the device still turns on. The blue light in the top left comes on, and the soft keys light up. Shes in desperate need of help because parts of her upcoming wedding plans (stored in pics, docs, and pdfs) are trapped inside this now half broken phone. She is unrooted, did not have USB debug enabled, and had a pin code on her phone. Is there any way i can adb in, or connect it to some program (win7) that would be able to pull all her internal sd card files and dump them on my computer? Any help is much appreciated.
AT&T HTC One | ARHD 12.0
Tbalden Perf Kernel 2.1.4 UV/OC/UC
So far i had 2 thoughts: have you tried plugging the device into Win7 and seeing if the regular mtp storage will work? Also if you had or could acquire an adapter to plug the phone into an hdmi tv, you might be able to send or upload the needed files somewhere, and/or enable usb debugging that way.
The pin lock might be a pain, but you could try guess-pressing the screen to unlock it. Otherwise you might be looking at also somehow using another adapter to plug in a usb keyboard.
I hope this gets the idea ball rolling anyway also you might be able to go into Download mode, even tho you can't see it, then flash a custom recovery where adb does work.
Plug it into a computer and take the files from the phone and add it to the computer.
If that doesn't work.
Buy an MHL HDMI adapter for our S4 from Ebay so you can connect to a television to see the screen there.
Hope it helps.

I was wondering if any of you have the same problem as me.
Just bought the dk20 ion dock and pluged my ion jelly bean to it and:
- first nothing happens wen pluging it in, if mouse and power cord connected it charges and cursor appears.
- doesnt autodetect dock
- hdmi (for me most important) does not work..
- pendrives and/or flashdrives are detected ok
so the dock is as for now a nice charger and that is about it!
let me know if any of you are having the same issues, and lets see if wll together we can do something about it.
I have had zero issues with mine. USB capability seems to be hit and miss. My cheap mouse and old Logitech keyboard work fine. I could not get a Logitech k400 to work though. As for getting hdmi to work make sure the cord is plugged in and tv on. Device screen should be off while plugging it in. Once in turn on, unlock, and it should show up. Then you can pull the notifications down and hit tv launcher. You can also set it with smart connect to auto launch.

Are you using Jelly Bean on your Ion as me?
I have followed your steps and nothing, pluged the HDMI cable into the dock and turned the TV on with the HDMI 1 channel on, with phone screen off connected it (with only the HDMI cable plugged in) and nothing happens. If I use Smart Connect App, when choosing dock it does detect the dock, but the TV mode does absolutely nothing.
Im beggining to think it could be the HDMI port on my Dock that doesn't work properly, I did buy it on ebay.. so you never know!
Let me know what you think, the whole idea was using my Ion as an additional basic PC, but without hdmi it's not going to be to useful..
Yes I am running the Rogers jelly Bean. It is very easy to disturb the hdmi connection when you mess with the dock. I am using a hdmi to micro hdmi adapter. I plug my phone in then hit the power button and unlock it. It then recognizes and shows on the tv. If you pull down the notifications you have options for tv launcher and also hdmi settings.
One thing you can try is connect the hdmi to your device directly and see if it works.

I think it's the HDMI port on my dock then, because it just doesn't even notice the HDMI connection, I'm using the cable that came with the phone, I have a factory unlocked lt28h Ion that came with all the extras, hdmi micro to hdmi cable and smart tags..
I may try doing a downgrade to see if it works ok on the ICS, I have read it had less problems with that version of Android.
Once again thanks ever so much for your help and interested, ill keep the post updated just in case other people are having the same problem as me.
Pd: The HDMI port on my device works fine directly to TV, the only thing is I have to adjust the screen dimensions to 95% now I'm on Jelly Bean so the picture is ok on the TV.
Regards, judgefargo
Finally the new Dock arrived yesterday and guess what.. It works like a charm!!!
So in the end the problem was a faulty HDMI port, the seller was kind enough to send a new one for free.
Thank you all for your help, as compensation ill leave a few discoveries I have made so you can use your ion as a spare PC.
For ROOTED devices i strongly recommend Screen Standby App, that lets you turn the screen of whilst the phone is docket and uses 1/3 of the battery, as well as not bothering you whilst watching a film or other tasks.. it has many other functions to.
Another great app is Paragon, which lets you connect external usb and hard drives in any format, specially NTFS, please note that for usb and hard drives to work the power cord has to be connected, due to the drain of power, as device warns.
That's it for now, hope this info is useful for other Dock owners and users!
Awesome I will try this out. Glad you got a good dock to work with. If you come up with other interesting stuff let us know.

NTFS is standard format for Windows and for it to work in Android it needs to be fat32 format. Don't think there is much of a difference other than just the type of format. So you would right click your drive you want to use and format it as fat32. Then put what you want to on it and plug it into the dock. The phone should be able to see it at that point but you will need a file browser to access the drive. I will try it in a bit to confirm it works but from what I have read on the Z forum it should work fine.

Can I change the format without literally format my ext HDD?
XDAプレミアムを使 用して私のSK17iのか ら送られてきた
No. You will have to backup or move what is on the drive and do a format. Formatting wipes the drive and no way around that I know of.
The problem is Android is not programmed to read NTFS format which is a windows format.
But if you install PARAGON app it makes the OS able to read NTFS drives without having to format your hard drive to fat32.
I also have a WD 500GB Hard Drive and faced the same problem, there is other programs but paragon seems to be the one that works best.
Hope that helps, regards and good fortune!
