HTC DESIRE HD RUU update result bricked phone logo screen HELP - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!!
I really need your help. after unsuccessful attempt to update my HDT with ruu file (dont know which one) it ended up with white screen. i thought no big deal. i ll fix that but after numerous attempts to return stock i realize that something that i do is not right so help me please.
my HD is locked and first i tried to unlock bootloader on htcdev but my hboot 2.00.027 is no longer support as htcdev claims. it needs to be updated.
This is the RUU file that according to my knowledge matches the requirements of my phone but oviously not.
RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed
i tried with it flash from sd card - it comes to do you want to update? pressed vol.buton +. update in progress and that stuck for over a hour.
tried via computer and usb cabel. after running exe file it stuck on rebooting in bootloader.
tried flash over adb and fastboot command via cmd. fastboot devices shows that phone is connected but it stuck on next command fastboot erase cache.
here are the characteristic of the phone.

PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND THE RIGHT RUU or any other method that would work.
bear in mind iam unrooted.
What am i supposed to do to fix my phone? any clue?
via RUU or .... ............

If your aiming for a stock rom, Just create a goldcard and try flashing your stock rom.
You can extract the rom.zip file in ruu by
The process:
- Download a RUU from anywhere (you already have one)
- Open/Run the .exe You'll get something like this
- Click the Start button
- Select the Run command and type in: %temp%
- Search for a folder that has a bunch of characters and looks somewhat like this: {XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX} just keep on searching in each folder, if you have patience you'll find it.
- And inside that folder should be another folder that looks the same, and has the format above.
- Find a zip file called rom.zip -
-Rename the rom.zip to PD98IMG.zip
If you already created a goldcard. put the PD98IMG.zip in the root of your sd card
Go to bootloader and pressing -volume and power button.
Rom zip will automatically detected and you will be ask to update.
Hope it helps "newbie here" :fingers-crossed:

Iam not aiming on stock. actually i dont care. i just want my phone back working.
i dont have a goldcard. can i make one with unrooted and locked phone?
i tried with flash from sd card extracted rom and renamed as PD98IMG - it comes to do you want to update? pressed vol.buton up than shows update in progress and stuck for over a hour.
doesent work
thanks for effort

Its easy to create a goldcard, any sd card will do.
Links is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970157
if you cannot get your cid just use the attach file goldcard.img below
i dont know if it would work, but since you haven't find any solution yet, you could at least try.
Hope it helps your phone...:fingers-crossed:

Have you tried with a different sdcard? have you also checked the md5sum or the RUU? maybe you can flash it in fastboot (read the guide in my signature to find out how)

Hi, need some help

Ive been reading this section of the forum for 2 nights now. read various threads and none the wiser.
Ive unlocked my htc one x using the windroid htc one app which worked fine, but installing a rom was not as easy. now < i admit, i dived in and installed a ROM without seeing what else it needs to work ( am used to flashing nexus roms) and now its stuck at the HTC screen. Now i've tried various ways to rectify the proplem. uisng various roms, flashing boot.img before flashing the rom, no go. tried older roms, no go.
I know the hboot needs updating, but without a cid id then i cant find a matching firmware.zip.
Ive tried to do a RUU boot by locking the bootloader but get this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash zip rom.zip

thanks for your help that got the phone back to booting properly
I flashed it and it worked. I got myself back to the latest update. Now i tried various roms again as i'm one for experimenting but some of the newest ones dont seem to want to work.
ones i've tried>
Android_Revolution_HD-One_X_33.1
HTC_One_X_-_MaximusHD_21.0.0
OneX The Next Chapter! v1.2
but none of them worked for me.
So i went lower with
cm-10.1.3-endeavoru which worked
then updated to
cm-10.2.0-endeavoru and flashed the boot.img for it to work.
Now for the other roms, what am i missing? is it the firmware.zip? hboot level?
Am bowing down to Thant, and hoping he can tell a mere minion what he's doing wrong

cyanogenmod stable rom not recognising sim, and not being recognised by htc sync
Hi i just unlocked and rooted my phone. one of the first things i did after having rooted it was go into rom-manager and download the highest rated cyanogen mod stable rom...expecting it to reboot itself and do the update automatically once id downloaded the file i was suprised when nothing happened...so i put it into recovery mode myself and searched the phone's storage for the rom file...it was infact two files, one the rom, the other gapps...i installed both of them and rebooted the phone...at first i was left on cyanogenmod bootloop...after a few restarts, and factory resets, i eventually got past the cyanogen mod intro wheel, to its actual introduction *asking me to choose a language*, as soon i choose my language i get notification asking me to insert my simcard (it already is, OF COURSE...), as i go through the rest of the setup there is no network coverage or internet..so i cant simply download rom-manager and try another flash..it also wont come up as a recognised device on my macbook...ive downloaded another flash of cyanogenmod on my laptop along with a new gapps, but im utterly lost about what to do now...i cant even put them on the phone....
wud love any help
The recovery version I'm using is clockworkMod Recovery v5.8.2.7

the reason i'm so frustrated is aside from the supposedly stable build of cyanogen mod i downloaded in rommanager not working, the rom doesnt recognise my sim, i dont have access to the internet, so i cant simply download a new rom to flash straight from rom manager...as well as this the wifi doesn't seem to work on this flash...and to make matters worse it's not being recognised by the drivers...i'm using htc sync manager..when i plug in the phone it will open htc sync manager but wont show that a phone is paired to my macbook
...when u say manually can i do this directly from my phone or do i need to connect it to a computer?
You must connect it to PC..And then go to fastboot and flash boot.img file..Then you will have signal, wifi etc..

its not being recognised as a device since i flashed the *cyanogen mod stable rom*...i plugged it to my computer though, and put it into fastboot and it says FASTBOOT USB...the options it gives me from here are
HBOOT
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
Here is guide how to use ADB on macbook:

And then you can use fastboot commands..

yep fastboot oem lock
Then it might be easier to flash the 3.14.401 firmware to upgrade the hboot to 1.39. Then you can flash any rom you want, and there is also a ruu for that. Sorry i have no time to explain now (heading home from work)
Look for the firmware placeholder thread, read the instructions and download the 3.14.401 firmware.zip from there.

i already had the ota 3.14.401 and got the firmware.zip from there.
its installed fine and i now can put most roms onto it.
:victory: thank you Mr Hofs
So i get this right in my head. The phones firmware.zip needed updated so it would update hboot and other things.
Now to flash roms is the procedure to flash the boot.img contained inside first then install the rom <----which is they way ive being doing it

help: bricked htc one m7 ?

Hi All,
I attempted to restore to the stock rom when I ran into this problem where my phone would only boot into recovery mode.
Currently I have S-on and the OS wiped out after a fail attempt at installing the zip file One_5.11.401.10_deodexed.zip
I thought that I might be able to recover it by running one of the RUU exe files but so far I have not been successful. I always got the error 155 returned. Also I am really unsure if this method would work and what RUU file is right for my device? Here is the information I got on my device, may be someone can point out what RUU I might need:

I know that my phone is GSM, unlocked, and work with tmobile. However I am uncertain as to weather it was originally a tmobile phone or an ATT phone, or else.
Thank you for your help.

Update: I had an all nighter hellish time trying to recover the seeming bricked phone. At last the following procedure worked for me. I like to post it here just in case someone else got into the same problem. Note that I was using TWPR recovery.
1. I sideloaded superuser.zip
2. I side loaded revone to /sdcard/ directory
3. from the pc:
adb shell
cd /sdcard/
chmod 755 revone
./revone -s 0 -u
exit
4. reboot into fastboot and I got S-OFF
Next I was still having problem installing RUU zip file. The only thing that worked for me was this:
1. I changed the CID to 11111111, (not sure if this is necessary)
2. download Guru Reset M7 3.62.401.1.zip file from htc1guru.com
3. adb sideloaded Guru Reset M7 3.62.401.1.zip to /sdcard/ directory
4. using TWPR install zip to install Guru Reset M7 3.62.401.1.zip
5. the phone reboot and came back working.
At this point I still have S-OFF. The new ROM is of an older version so software update tried to download and install a newer version. However it wasn't able to install. There was a message telling me that it has detected an "variant version of the firmware was installed so update cannot continue". So I still have the following tasks to do before the phone is truly unrooted:
1. change CID from 11111111 back to what it was before
2. update to the latest stock firmware
3. change S-OFF to S-ON
the HTC boot is already in "locked" state so I don't need to lock it again. Still not sure how I can update to the latest stock firmware though. I would appreciate any information in this regard. Thanks.
Update: ok, I finally able to get the software update working without getting the ‘Variant System Version’ message. It worked after I change the CID back to Googl001 from 11111111. I did it with the fastboot command "fastboot oem writecid googl001" .
It seems that the only thing that I need to do now to return it to the original stock product is to change S-OFF to S-ON. Or may be not.
I am still not sure if I got the stock firmware or not though. This is because I saw that the phone has a "SuperSU Installer" app running. This app allow me to root the device. It would be odd if HTC would ship the phone with this app included.
So if you know for sure how I could return this phone to completely stock image, please let me know.
Thank you.

Update: all problems are fixed, the phone is returned to its stock state completely. Here is what I did.
1. Change the CID to T-MOB010 by using "fastboot oem writecid T-MOB010
2. with CID=T-MOB010 and model number MID=PN0713000 I look up the RUU exe that support those two parameters and download it from htc1guru.com
3. down grade my hboot from 1.54 to 1.44 by flashing a hboot.zip file
4. put the phone in fastboot mode and run the RUU exe . After it is done the phone is back to stock rom.
That's it. Hope these steps could help some sorry soul out there. This HTC root/unroot is NOT FUN at all! If you happen to read this HTC, please make your bootloader idiot proof. Otherwise we will just go with your competitor whoever has a better bootloader.

Thank you.

My phone boots only into bootloader

Hi guys, I'm having a really big problem because I need to use my phone today but i messed up something.
First i have s-on, installed twrp 2.8, and flashed arhd 34.0 everything worked fine but i had problems with my wifi because of the 4.4.4 firmware on my phone. So i wanted to flash the new firmware but because i was s-on i couldnt do it, so i locked my bootloader and tried again. Now my phone boots only in bootloader and i don't know what to do. Someone please help! :crying:
Before you do anything else, post the result of fastboot getvar all (delete serial no and IMEI no.)

Your first problem here is relocked bootloader. Do you still have custom recovery installed ? Have you try to restore your stock ROM ?
When you mentioned you tried to flash firmware, which firmware version no. ? You fastboot getvar all show you have firmware 3.28.401.9 installed.

Try to unlock your bootloader with your previous unlock_code.bin
Someone here more or less same problem like yours manage to unlock the bootloader :http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/update-bootloader-page-t3015542

There is a problem. I don't have the previous bin file because I bought it second hand. I tried although to unlock it in the htcdev site but it fails.
When on bootloader then press power once to hboot then select recovery, it goes back to bootloader ?
I don't have further idea as the bootloader is locked, except if you don't mind losing everything on your internal storage as this will make your device like a new device out from the box is to use the RUU zip. You need an external sdcard.
Download the RUU zip from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563
Or the lollipop one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58457494&postcount=375
rename the zip to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on external sdcard
boot to bootloader, press power once to hboot, it will ask you to install or not.

Yes, i get back to bootloader when i select recovery.
I don't mind to lose my data, just get my phone back working
So I'm gonna try this out. It should by itself popup to ask me to install? By external sd card i guess you mean a microsd which i have. Should that zip file be the only file there or can I put it in with other files?
Yes... it will pop-up when you select hboot then press power up to install.
external_sdcard is the microsd. No problem to put it with other files, correct naming is important and put in root of microsd not in folder

HTC Desire stuck in fastboot

I searched, I searched, searched some more and tried probably everything there is, but the phone seems really bricked. In the bortak's troubleshooting guide, it falls under advanced boot problems, first with S-OFF, now it's in S-ON state.
I got this phone for free, I don't know what the previous owner did. I got it stuck in fastboot mode with alpharev logo (joker).
1) There is no ADB access, only fastboot is available, no matter what I do, so goldcard cannot be made.
2) When turned on, phone boots into fastboot mode, displaying black screen with HTC logo and four triangles in the corners
3) It used to have alpharev hboot with S-OFF, now it's with stock HBOOT with S-ON
4) Tried various WWE RUU, they all fail at Radio-V2 Fail PU, all other points are a success. Image update returns always error 152. Radio version does change however, when checked in vars
5) The phone does not recognize any zip file I put in root of 1GB FAT SD card, so that option is out as well.
6) "fastboot oem boot" gets stuck in white screen with HTC logo. I remove batt and it boots again into fastboot.
7) I am able to flash boot and recovery with fastboot, but it does not make a difference. It won't boot into recovery or anything other than fastboot..

Do I have a genuine brick?
Unfortunately you have the "Radio-V2 Fail PU". Pretty much a radio brick which is the worst kind.
You can keep trying to run an RUU (try the 2.3.3 GB RUU, use the PB99IMG.zip method), and it may eventually flash. I've seen the 'freezer trick' (genuinely) on these forums where you put the phone in a bag in a freezer for a few minutes, then try the RUU. It may increase the chances of success, but even if it works, it's likely to brick itself because it's a hardware related issue.

Thanks, I know you are not joking about freezer - I had a friend that hacked PICs by freezing them to certain temp and then heating them up. I will certainly give it a try.
PB99IMG.zip method did not work for me, I never get a prompt to install anything from SD card.

I only did the PB99IMG.zip method once, but found it easiest since it avoids USB or driver issues.
-Make sure it's named "PB99IMG.zip" exactly, not "PB99IMG.zip.zip"
-Then put it on the root of the SD card, not in any folder
-Boot into bootloader (volume down + power), not fastboot. Wait a few seconds for it to find the file, then follow instructions to flash.
Hope you can get it back to life somehow though...

I believe I cannot make it boot to bootloader, it's always fastboot. It's either black screen with four triangles, or white screen with several lines of params in the top lef corner and with RUU as the last line, as soon as I pull the USB cable out. Battery out then power and volume down always takes it to black HTC screen.

i need you help guys , i'm just trying to power up my phone normal and never go back to this bootloader screen
You flashed a rom that wouldn't work on Sprint device by default. You need proper kernel to run with this ROM but I will not go further on this.
Your best bet now is install RUU meant for Sprint.
Everything that you need is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173

Thnks for your reply sir , i was trying to do this , but now my phone cannot connect to the RUU installation wizard , How can i do it
I'm not on PC .. unable to write proper guide.
The easier one for you is download 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.14_RUU.zip
then rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on your microSD, not in any folder.
On bootloader, press power once to go to hboot. Once on hboot it will scan the file and ask whether to update. Volume up to update and let it do its stuff. Once completed, reboot.
After setup complete, delete that zip file.
Before that, if you select to go to recovery, do you still have TWRP ?
If yes, boot to recovery and make backup of your internal storage as the above procedure will wipe everything on your device except microSD.
Or you can install any ROM with sprint support (like the one I'm using now) then you don't need RUU.
After completed and ROM is booting, you can install any other ROM with Sprint support.
But it's best for you to update your firmware to Marshmallow first.

thnks a lot , i'm going to do this steps seems easy ,
the last part that i didn't get , how can i update my firmware to marshmallow first ?
ckpv5 , got the ruu file and rename it and copy it to sdcard , but when i go into HBoot it says
Image Update Fail
Parsing ...
Device Halted due to large Image Update Fail
press power to rebbot .
You downloaded the one that I mentioned ? I made a mistake there (wrong file copied).
You need the one that have 4.25.654.14 in it, sorry.
When I said update to Marshmallow first, that's after you fixed current problem.
After you successfully installed 4.25.654.14, then do OTA to 4.25.654.18 then later to 6.20.654.3
(That's why I don't like to help when not on PC.. sometime copy wrong filename)
