So basically my problem occurs when I have the volume set low at night while I'm listening to music or Youtube. When I do, at certain quiet parts, the volume basically mutes. As someone put it "It's like there is a noise gate blocking every sound below a certain threshold if the phone volume is not almost maxed." (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036229&page=1567). I've seen many people have the same problem, but I've been unable to find a permanent solution to it besides flashing a siyah or dorimanx kernel, but I'm not quite sure how to do that or if it's even possible on the E4GT. I'm running the CM10.1 Wild For The Night ROM. However, apparently, this problem is not exclusive to the E4GT. The thread I linked to was the other GT-I9100 s2, and I've found a different thread, though not on XDA, that has to do with the Galaxy Note. I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me solve this problem because I almost always listen at low volumes, and this muting problem is very annoying. If worst comes to worst and I can't fix it, I might just flash AOKP and hope that fixes it.
Thanks

You might take a look at this thread,as it could be an issue with the dsp manager that I believe comes with cm10.1.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199134 Sorry I can't help more, I'll keep a look out..
Have the exact same problem with my E4GT. I get this issue when I watching videos (through Youtube, stock gallery video player, vlc player, and MX player) and when I listen to music (Apollo and poweramp) so I suppose it doesn't have anything to do with programs. Anyways I'm also running the wild for the night rom, so I suppose it's an issue with the kernel or something. Force stopping/disabling DSP manager does nothing to help. This must not be a very common issue, as I see this issue being mentioned scattered around in other threads but, seeing as there's no apparent solution other than flashing, there's no official thread for this. Good luck to us unfortunate few, eh? and please do post here if you find a solution! Hopefully this issue won't persist in cm10.2

Is there anyone else having issues with the sound of Pandora using new ROMS. I tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it, made sure high quality was set, tried to look for the media setting in the build prop and change it but that setting disappeared a few releases ago, and have searched through everything and still have a hard time listening to Pandora in the car because of the quality. I am not saying it is as poor as it was when 2.2 first came out but it is poor. The voices are tinny and turned way up is piercing to the ears. Base is great! But that is it. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I got rid of XM radio years ago and am strictly using Pandora.
Use the modded transparent unlimited skip version in the transparent market thread in theme section its in the opening post with a link all by its self at the bottom. Make sure you delete all Pandora data and cache as well as removing Pandora. Quality is perfect. I'd link it but I'm on xda app.
Also don't update it.

If your running CM look to see if you have DSP Manager, and make sure it's not compressing the audio, or the equalizer is on. I had compression somehow turned on one time by accident. Turned it off and it was worlds better.
I haven't had an issue with the sound quality...I agree with Mithos, perhaps your DSP settings are off?
I have had an issue with Pandora over Bluetooth dropping out, though. Happens only on first connect, if I turn Bluetooth off and on again it seems to resolve the issue...
Nope did not have compression on and I have DSP. I also download slacker and it does the same thing. I guess since it is just me maybe there is osme other program that is causing the issue. Have no clue which one since it is pretty much stock

Just want to let everyone know, a while back I was complaining about Pandora and Slaker. I decided to try a differnt ROM just to see if it was an issue with 7 and it appears that it is. I loaded Nils' Business Sense and it sounds great. To me there is a big change and I am not sure what it is. I did try multiple kernels. The thing is it sounds OK in a headset or listening it through a speaker on the phone but putting it on the car stereo where you amplify the music you can really hear some sound artifacts.
Hi all.
My GN is going through a rough patch and I can't nail down why.
Basicly, to keep this brief, the rear/media speaker is buzzing, crackling, static(ish) when any sound is played through it. It sounds a little like electrical interference, most of the time a bzz and a crackle.
I also noticed last night whilst watching a youtube video, that video playback freezed during a noticeable buzz from the speaker. Additionally, scrolling through the phone/browser seemed less responsive, slow and pausing for half a second on occasion. I'm unclear as to whether this is me looking for problems or an actual one, but I'm throwing it out there.
I figure the phone is beginning to die on me but I really can't tell if this is a hardware fault or software. I have contacted Samsung and whilst I wait I thought I'd see what you pro's thing.
Running 4.1.1.
I don't mess with kernals.
Installed Volume+ after sound issues to see if I can improve sound thru EQ, but have not increased volume.
I've included a recording of what the speaker sounds like.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks.
Update.
Reply from Samsung.
Regarding your case, kindly note that the issue reported with the phone
indicates that the phone would need a software reset, or re flashing of
the Software, in order to have it operating normally again.
Please note that what has happened is caused by a minor software
confliction.

What is the easiest way of solving this?
I've tried a factory reset before through the phone menu's and also reset through boot.
I've spent time over on the SGS3 international forum and noticed that there were a LOT of comments regarding crackles and pops during audio playback. I purchased my phone the first week of July and from day 1 i've hade the issue. I commute about 15 hrs/week and use my phone to listen to podcasts, audiobooks, and music all the time. The crackle that happens in the background is extremely annoying. I've tried various players, different music formats, downloaded or streaming, and listening via headphones, bluetooth, and the phones internal speaker. The issue is consistant no matter what. Also doesn't matter if the screen is on or off, or the phone is plugged in or not. My phone is stock and unrooted. On the international version there was a firmware update that seemed to have eliminated the issue, but the latest firmware we received in the states did nothing to help the issue. The best advise Samsung customer service could give me was to perform a hard reset of my phone to see if that helped. Didn't seem like that would do anything so I opted not to do the reset.
I'd like to know how many others have experienced this issue and what, if any, fixes exist.
I listen to music a lot on my phone and personally have never had this issue. Before trying anything major, I'd see if it happens with a different pair of headphones/earbuds. If it keeps happening, I'd either get a replacement which might fix the problem or install CM10 which most likely has updated audio drivers thus fixing the issue.

Thanks for the reply. It's for certain not the headphones. I considered it being a faulty headphone jack, but the fact I get the same feedback chatter when on bluetooth and the internal speaker, I figure it must be hardware or software related. I've used 4 different audio players, Netflix, and YouTube and the crackling is consistant. I also a technical idiot so don't know what CM10 is.
I had this issue and it's hardware related. Had it exchanged and problem solved. Other members here who had this issue had to exchange their phones as well.

OK. I contacted Samsung customer service again and they advised I ship it in. Sucks that I'll have to be without my phone for 2 weeks though.
I've searched the forums and found quite a bit of people saying they have experienced this, but I'm not sure if they were using notes or not.
For some reason, it doesnt matter what app I'm using, pandora, xm, or the stock players. They all studder just slightly, sometimes more so when the screen is off.
It's not a bluetooth specific thing, it happens over bluetooth as well as the speaker of the note3.
Is there a solution for this? It really drives me crazy and how can I host a party next weekend with this doing that
My girlfriend does not experience this on her nexus 5, is my problem specific to jellybean?
Thanks for your advice!

yep same problem.
i had it on nexus 4 - 4.3. but um, didn't start on my note 3 until after a few days of use. I'm not sure rebooting helps for long. i tried poweramp and jetaudio and stock player. Skips everywhere.
I tried setting decoder priority and buffer size to higher on Poweramp. Not sure if it'll help but we'll see.
I'm on N2 right now that has exact same problem, but BT only related. The micro pauses also differ between the receivers Sony Ericsson MW600 is so far the worst offender, the pauses last 1/2 second, on other receivers it's barely noticeable.
At least on N2 it's not related to the JB version, it was happening on 4.1.2 and 4.3. Changing kernel also doesn't affect the issue.
I suspect the cause is BT doesn't get enough priority and if lot's of apps running on the background it starts skipping. Usually I just reboot the phone then it works fine for a few hours, sometimes I use fast reboot app, that kills background processes it helps somewhat too.

Using PowerAmp I went to Huge buffer and Highest priority and it seems to have fixed the stuttering for me. I'm on rooted stock.

yup. same. now wish they'd add the same features to jetaudio+ and other players D:
I get this problem often. Odd.
I'm not sure if this is a solution but I noticed the problem went away when I was using different roms/kernel combinations.
Currently I've been using the compulsion kernel with some international roms and the problem hasn't come back!
Is it the kernel or rom I can't be sure. But either way it's fixed.
If someone experiencing problems with their rom wants to try the compulsion kernel and see if the problem still exists maybe it can help a lot of people.

POWERAMP MUSIC PLAYER
Please forgive me for starting a completely new thread on an issue (Bug) that may or may have not already been fixed. I've searched all of XDA and Poweramp forums for solutions but have not found any. Hopefully this is not just my phone suffering from hardware failure and simply just a Poweramp glitch or bug that seems to effect the galaxy nexus. If it is just my phone, well I will ask the moderators to just delete this thread and my apologies. I will just throw my Gnex in the garbage and use my old Samsung Vibrant.
Now with that being said, is there anyone who is currently using Poweramp as their primary music player on their GNEX running 4.4 or any version of android for that matter? If so would you mind sharing what your Poweramp experience is like. In other words is their any BUZZING or SKIPPING that occurs when you are performing common tasks such as browsing the web or checking email or whatever the case may be. When I say BUZZING I really mean BUZZING, like someone being buzzed in to enter a door or like a buzzing bee except much louder to the point where it may cause some serious hearing problems. I don't mind the audio skipping or popping it is just that damn buzzing that is literally giving me a headache. Now you may say...well why don't you just try another music player? Well I have tried just about every single music player available on google play and none of them, I repeat NONE OF THEM come close to the audio quality of Poweramp (take it from me I am an audiophile). I have contacted the poweramp support team and they told me basically to F-OFF because they don't support custom roms other than Cyanogenmod. Well I tried CM11 with stock kernel and the problem still persist so no luck there.
Device Info:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250 GSM
Currently running the latest build of Vanir with latest SmittyV kernel (Stock or custom kernel doesn't seem to make a difference)
Default kernel settings
Default Poweramp settings not using Direct Volume Control or an external DSP (Audio Buffer Size or Audio Thread Priority settings don't seem to help either)
Buzzing only seems to occur when using headphones, it doesn't buzz when connected via bluetooth speakers but skips (really don't mind).
Again this buzzing ONLY happens when "Multitasking". Listening to music and browsing the web seems to happen almost instantly. When the phone is in standby with music playing...no problems at all. No buzzing, skipping or popping noises.
I've tried just about every rom and kernel combination that is currently in development to try and solve this issue but have had no luck whatsoever. Other music players mainly Player Pro with the dsp pack seem to have this exact same issue. Player Pro without the DSP pack works perfectly fine but there is no gapless playback support so that's not an option. I am on the verge of just giving up all together and using my Vibrant as my "daily driver" while I save to buy a N5 someday. But I am not quite ready to call it quits that's why I ask my fellow XDA users who are currently using Poweramp Music Player for their help.
What ROM and KERNEL are you using?
Kernel settings? Default or custom Settings?
Poweramp settings?
Please help.
