[Problem]Stutter/buzz from rear/media speaker. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all.
My GN is going through a rough patch and I can't nail down why.
Basicly, to keep this brief, the rear/media speaker is buzzing, crackling, static(ish) when any sound is played through it. It sounds a little like electrical interference, most of the time a bzz and a crackle.
I also noticed last night whilst watching a youtube video, that video playback freezed during a noticeable buzz from the speaker. Additionally, scrolling through the phone/browser seemed less responsive, slow and pausing for half a second on occasion. I'm unclear as to whether this is me looking for problems or an actual one, but I'm throwing it out there.
I figure the phone is beginning to die on me but I really can't tell if this is a hardware fault or software. I have contacted Samsung and whilst I wait I thought I'd see what you pro's thing.
Running 4.1.1.
I don't mess with kernals.
Installed Volume+ after sound issues to see if I can improve sound thru EQ, but have not increased volume.
I've included a recording of what the speaker sounds like.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks.

Update.
Reply from Samsung.
Regarding your case, kindly note that the issue reported with the phone
indicates that the phone would need a software reset, or re flashing of
the Software, in order to have it operating normally again.
Please note that what has happened is caused by a minor software
confliction.

What is the easiest way of solving this?
I've tried a factory reset before through the phone menu's and also reset through boot.

Audio "static" problem

I've spent time over on the SGS3 international forum and noticed that there were a LOT of comments regarding crackles and pops during audio playback. I purchased my phone the first week of July and from day 1 i've hade the issue. I commute about 15 hrs/week and use my phone to listen to podcasts, audiobooks, and music all the time. The crackle that happens in the background is extremely annoying. I've tried various players, different music formats, downloaded or streaming, and listening via headphones, bluetooth, and the phones internal speaker. The issue is consistant no matter what. Also doesn't matter if the screen is on or off, or the phone is plugged in or not. My phone is stock and unrooted. On the international version there was a firmware update that seemed to have eliminated the issue, but the latest firmware we received in the states did nothing to help the issue. The best advise Samsung customer service could give me was to perform a hard reset of my phone to see if that helped. Didn't seem like that would do anything so I opted not to do the reset.
I'd like to know how many others have experienced this issue and what, if any, fixes exist.
I listen to music a lot on my phone and personally have never had this issue. Before trying anything major, I'd see if it happens with a different pair of headphones/earbuds. If it keeps happening, I'd either get a replacement which might fix the problem or install CM10 which most likely has updated audio drivers thus fixing the issue.

Thanks for the reply. It's for certain not the headphones. I considered it being a faulty headphone jack, but the fact I get the same feedback chatter when on bluetooth and the internal speaker, I figure it must be hardware or software related. I've used 4 different audio players, Netflix, and YouTube and the crackling is consistant. I also a technical idiot so don't know what CM10 is.
I had this issue and it's hardware related. Had it exchanged and problem solved. Other members here who had this issue had to exchange their phones as well.

OK. I contacted Samsung customer service again and they advised I ship it in. Sucks that I'll have to be without my phone for 2 weeks though.

Clicking sound when start/stopping audio

I've this problem when using headphones, where there is this click when audio is started or stopped on the One X, like when using the music player or watching videos. This problem does not extend to the phone's in-built speaker, so when say, starting and stopping music while on the phone's external speaker, there is no clicking noise.
What I've ascertained at least is that this is not affected by any existing apps which modifies sound (since I did a factory reset and tried the audio again, after reading one of the threads on XDA).
But two new things have occured recently, which are
1) I unlocked (and then re-locked) the bootloader (I actually wanted to install a third-party ROM but I had to put that on hold because I didn't have time).
2) My phone just acquired a OTA update from HTC (software no: 2.17.707.3)
Unfortunately as I got this OTA just about a day before I unlocked the bootloader, I cannot determine whether this problem started after the OTA, or after the bootloader was unlocked (there was a factory reset forced by the phone), or if this clicking sound has even anything to do with it. But it definitely didn't occur either before the OTA or the bootloader unlock.
Does turning off the Beats Audio "enhancement" affect it?

Hi,
Do you mean just turning off or disabling beats? If it's just turning off beats then no, it doesn't resolve the problem.
Oh and one more thing is that if it helps, when stopping audio, there's this very faint static (the white noise sound) which can be heard for approximately 2 seconds before the static terminates with the clicking sound.
Have you used any volume boosting apps?
I used volume+ free and if I boost the bass setting and/or the virtual room it does exactly what you are describing.

I doubt that It's an app because I did a factory reset and then the clicking noise is still there when I start/stop audio (before installing any apps, of course).
Anyway I have a theory that It's caused by beats, because say, when using the phone speaker to play any audio, beats is not activated and there is no clicking noise. I'm not sure how much credence this theory has though.

The clicking sound it normal, you can reduce this effect but not remove it completely, this pop/click sound when starting or stopping music indicates the DAC being muted when not in use and voltage to the DAC gets cut off (no you cannot stop that from happening). That static sound is the voltage going though
try and remove all you equalizers, volume modifications, virtualizers, bass boosters etc to reduce this effect

Thanks for the elucidation, however if I may ask, do you have any idea as to why this wouldn't have happened before? I've owned the HOX for 5 months and it only happened now. Moreover, why does this sound not happen on the phone speaker but only over headphones?

I only have it over the headphones as well, its totally normal, during time it will start to get noticeable, but no need to worry about it, if it annoys you well, there it not much that can be done except turn off beats audio..... I don't mind it since I don't start/stop all the time lol so it's not that bad
I may/may not make a difference but you could switch kernels (if you are rooted) and see if this effect still happens, Since the hissing noise/popping sound is by voltage

My phone isn't rooted.. yet.
Say, could this thing be fixed by an update? Is it a hardware-specific issue (maybe it has something to do with the previous OTA)?

i can assure you that this is not a hardware issue, I know many people have this as well
It can be fixed in the future by htc

Okay, thanks for your help. It's really appreciated.
Oh and sorry guys, one last question, but not really related to the clicking thing.
When I re-locked my bootloader, the command prompt reads:
<bootloader> Lock successfully...
FAILED <status read failed <Too many links>>
finished. total time: 0.121s

But under the bootloader screen on the phone, it reads re-locked (the words in the pink colored highlight).
So, is there something I should be concerned about here?

Xperia ZL sudden loss of audio

Dear all,
I have my brand new Xperia ZL (model C6502) unit for about a week now. The past few days, I noticed that the sound suddenly "disappears" out of the blue. I can't hear any sound (ie ring tones, notifications, music). Adjusting the volume doesn't fix the problem. Restarting the phone does not fix this either. I even did a factory reset on my phone, but still, the problem persisted. Somehow, the phone fixes itself one way or another. The sound comes back after a few seconds to minutes.
The most significant thing I did on my phone was the upgrade. I haven't installed any 3rd party apps or rooted my phone either.
I have contacted the shop where I bought my unit, and they will check on my unit. Did you guys and gals experience this too?
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
I had this issue months ago on my Droid RAZR. Out of the blue the speaker didn't play any sound but fixed itself after a while. What I discovered it was a hardware problem (funny that it also appeared after upgrading from GB to ICS) with the speaker. Each time I put my RAZR into a case the speaker stopped playing, So I removed the case and pressed with my finger around the speaker while I let it play some music. And at some point the sound stopped. Send it for repair and got it changed for free as it was a hardware issue with the speaker.
Maybe you can try it out on your device to see if the speaker responds on presses around it on the devices back.
Thank you for the feedback. I forgot to tell that the problem also happens when the headphones are plugged in. I noticed while playing music with Walkman app. Suddenly, I can't hear any music even though it's playing.
I have a theory that the sudden sound loss is due to overheating. I don't know why, but I feel that the unit is heating quickly. I'm experimenting on it to see if that's a probable cause of my problem.

Heat would not cause that... Mine can get burn to the touch audio still works..

VS985 CM13 Audio Issue and Other General Questions

I have the latest version of CM13 on my Verizon LG G3. I don't remember when exactly this started, but it was recent. Any audio through the headphone jack makes strange noises. It started out at as white noise, very quiet, and as far as I could tell, only around when audio was not playing. Now it has progressed to being quite a bit louder, with the most annoying addition being the crackling/distortion/chirping sound that plays along with any audio, even louder than the audio when above 3 clicks of volume. It sounds very similar to a blown transducer in my earbuds or headphones. That noise switches ears at random, though never during listening. There is also an extremely loud popping noise when I turn the equalizer on or off. I have fresh installed CM13 and that didn't help. I know all of this is an issue with CM13 because I tried two other ROMs today, the latest version of Skydragon and XenonHD, the former lollipop and the latter marshmallow, and neither made those noises. (Neither of which I can use by the way, because I couldn't get either to realize I had a SIM card). I also tried all of the same headphones on other devices, and no noise. I'm open to either a fix for the audio issue, a fix for either of those other two ROMs so that I can just switch to one of those, or even a third ROM you know that actually works, but I'd like best to fix CM13. Aside from all that, Mortal Kombat X runs really laggy on my phone. How could I get it to run better? I score 47,000 on the new Antutu, what is the highest possible with my device? I don't want to get into overclocking, because the game already near melts my phone after a while and eats battery, but I'd be interested in hearing about what's possible with it anyway, along with other methods of speeding up. I've also been interested in dialing screen resolution down to 720p, which would help the problem and save battery, but I haven't been able to find a method that works. Thanks for reading if you got this far!
I'm having the same issue.
Fresh install of cm13. Only when the audio Is playing, and every time I start and stop the audio, it makes a loud pop.
This is a software issue, is there a fix soon?

No idea, that's what I'm asking. I fresh installed too. I have a really loud pop when turning on or off the equalizer, which I forgot to mention.
I've had the headphone issue for at least a few weeks on the CM13 nightlies. Flashing the 777 kernel (R22) fixes it for me, so it must me an issue in the CM13 kernel.

Audio problems when using earbuds with YouTube

A couple of months ago, my wife got a Samsung Galaxy S8 (Verizon variant). Overall, she's been happy with it. Recently, she pointed out that she cannot watch YouTube videos while using earbuds because there's little to no sound.
After checking it out for myself, I've found that videos playback normally without earbuds (internal speaker), but when connecting any set of earbuds, it's as if the primary audio in the video is virtually muted, while sounds like audience applause come through loud and clear.
I'd thought perhaps there was a setting related to audio (equalizer, maybe?) that could be adjusted to correct this, but I've found nothing. All of the volume sliders are turned all the way up. No change.
We just took an update to Oreo this evening, hoping that might correct the issue. It did not.
Has anyone else run into this issue? We're you able to correct it? If so, how? We'd appreciate any help you can offer.

Go to these settings, on the second photo pick preset 1, that should solve the issue
Thank you for replying. I gave it a go and there was no change. I even went so far as to back up the device and do a factory reset on it. Didn't restore the backup because I wanted to test the device "out of the box," so to speak. The problem persists.
Well, we're paying for insurance through Verizon... Guess it's time to pay them a visit tomorrow.
Thanks again!
