[Q] Original Audio Effects files - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

After following the instructions on this thread to flash DSP Manager onto my phone, it didn't work so I uninstalled it. However, I realized that the update.zip overwrote some system files required for the stock MusicFX equalizer in Google Play Music to work.
Can someone with a Samsung Galaxy S3, model SGH-T999, running stock Android 4.1.2 and baseband UVDMD5 send me the following files from their phone:
/system/etc/audio_effects.conf
all the files in /system/lib/soundfx/
Please note that root access is NOT required to read and copy the files listed above, and I would prefer if someone with an unrooted phone could send them. Otherwise, just make sure you haven't modified those files from the original stock versions.

Perfect! Thanks a lot!

"Unfortunately MusicFX has stopped"
I'm having a similar problem with my phone. I recently installed Beats Audio but was having problems with it so tried getting rid of it using it's in-app uninstaller and then by deleting it's system files (various /system/bin, /system/etc & /system/lib files) from a list i got from another online source. Now when i try to use certain apps like Music Volume EQ or i try accessing the Equalizer in Play Music settings, i get a black pop-up box saying "Unfortunately MusicFX has stopped". I need step-by-step help solving this problem as I am fairly inexperienced.
Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999V Eastlink Kitkat 4.4.2
Rooted with Towel Root v1.0 and using SuperSU v2.01
Everything else is stock, I'm just beginning to experiment with my phone!
Thanks in advance.

You could just reflash your stock firmware in Odin and reroot with towelroot

Some of those files probably needed to be replaced with stock versions. Easiest way to fix is the reflash like serio22 said.

Thank you both for the quick reply. I'm having a problem finding stock firmware for my device, checked sticky thread on ota firmware but doesn't list 4.4.2 KK for Eastlink, only 4.3 JB. Any ideas?

Try sammobile.com

Sorry bout that. I didn't bother with the eastlink firmware because in the past hardly anyone ever used it. Just didn't seem worthwhile to take over a gig of space for it.
But he is right. You can get it at sammobile.com/firmwares.
You'll have to register, but it's free and from what I can tell they don't sell or spam your email.

If you still want root this is the thread with the root66 fw.

Where did you get this beats installer?
Its fine to root and all but just use what you find here for mods and such. Or ask if you're not certain about something else.

I think the beats audio installer only works on non-stock roms, it wouldn't ever work for me with stock, but it always works with cm aokp etc..
The beats audio installer just makes you able to turn it up louder, it does slightly improve sound quality and give you that nifty notification up top when you plug in head phones. I still use it though.

[MOD] Native WIFI-BT-USB Tether JB 4.1.1 Flashable Zip

I had just installed jelly bean today and missed the native Wifi mod that I had installed, so I built a new one based off of the script found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801923
This is only for ATT Jellybean 4.1.1 UCDLK3 since I decompiled and compiled from that framework.

Great work! Was the only thing missing for me :fingers-crossed:
Donloaded the .zip to the phone. Used Rom Manager to reboot into ClockWorkMod recovery. Selected " apply update from external card", then selected the zip file.
I get "E:System verification failed", then "Installation aborted"
Any help would be appreciated guys.

Don't know why CWM didn't work, but tried Team Win Recovery, and it worked! Thanks again Allen!

No problem, god knows that I downloaded my share of things from here so I'm happy to contribute back.
I had to pull the three tools from different locations.
APKtool.jar was from apktool1.5.0
aapt was from here on the forums, it's an older one.
java.exe was from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805408
I'll share them from my dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kpu00b7k4ol5rlw/Compiling Tools.rar
It may have worked for me due to the method I used. After recompiling the modified framework-res.apk. I pulled resources.arsc from it using 7-zip and then added that to the original framework-res.apk using "store" method so no compression would be used.
Thanks !
I can't wait to try this tonight on my wife's brand new AT&T Galaxy S3. I bought her this phone as an early Christmas present when Sam's had them for $0.96 on Black Friday. I also bought her a Nexus 7 tablet. My plan was that she'd be able to Bluetooth tether off of her phone and finally be able to unrestricted (albeit, Flash-free) access to the web when she's at work (where employee internet access is severely restricted and 100% monitored).

I was going to NOT install a non-stock recovery in order to avoid tripping the counter (even thought I understand we can still get it back to 0), but now you are forcing me to rethink that idea. Already!
I'm still on 4.0.4 ICS. I can't find a tether script. Any ideas where I can find one if there is one.

Shucks!
Her phone says Baseband = i747UCLI5. I assume that it should say something like i747UCDLK3. I tried to install directly from framework-res.APK, but it gave me this error:
Parse Error
There is a problem parsing the package.
FWIW... I had "unknown sources" checked in the Security section of the Settings. Her phone is also rooted (running stock 4.0.4.).
...hmm... I checked for a "software update" (thinking that it would update her phone to 4.1.x, but when I checked (while phone was rooted), it said that no update was available. Then I used Voodoo OTA Root Protector and temp-un-rooted, then tried again, but it said that I have to wait 24 hours to check again.
Ughh.
LK3 isn't available for OTA update yet.
Works great! You da man!

I didnt think the issue was flashing recovery, it was once you boot to recovery, the counter switches to 1. it doesnt increment every boot to recover.

Yes, actually. Just open up Tether_WIFI_BT_UCDLK3.zip with 7zip and pull out framework-res.apk on your PC.
Next, framework-res.apk to your phone, anywhere.
Last, use root explorer to copy framework-res.apk into /system/framework and overwrite the one that's there.
Your phone will restart as soon as it's done copying. It's a dirty way to do it, but it works.

HFA & Chameleon Errors Fix - Or revert to older firmware from LK8

As some have noticed once you move onto the LK8 firmware and try to revert back to previous firmware versions you get Hands Free Activation or Chameleon Force Close errors upon every reboot.
This is what I have done to fix these errors and be able to go back to older firmware (pre LK8) if needed.
Not sure if this "fix" works beyond LK8 firmware as i'm not playing the flashing game any longer...The Note 2 works fine as is (MA7).
(Standard YMMV and i'm not responsible for trashing your phone)
No root or custom recovery needed.
1.) Install older firmware, in my case, I used the original LJ1 firmware provided by Viperboy found here.
2.) Once the firmware is installed on first boot it will give you the HFA & Chameleon errors, and that's fine and its where we will put the stop to it.
3.) Transfer the Chameleon.apk file below to your phone (Extracted out of the LK8 update) and install (overwrite) the existing one on your phone.
4.) You'll have to dial ##72786# to activate your phone, let it go through the motions (you may need your MSL, although I didn't need to enter it).
5.) Once the phone reboots it goes though HFA, PRL & Profile update, it will reboot and then no more issues (hopefully).
I have rebooted the phone over a dozen times with no issues, and the phone updated itself from LJ1 to LJC and again to MA7, no problem.
Please let us know if this works for you, or any suggestions to add to this..... Merry Christmas.
** As an update this issue is being investigated further on in this thread with the hopes it will be fixed in future firmwares.
You sir, are awesome. 'Nuff said.

Actually last night I went to a restaurant that we go to all the time that has free WiFi and with the LK8 firmware I wasn't able to connect (completely open, no passwords) which made me try to figure out how to fix this... I'm sticking to LJC until the next confirmed to completely work update arrives. And I get so much from this site i'm happy that I can contribute something no matter how small. I hope it works for others as well. Thank you and happy holidays.

Hey all, I hate to hijack the thread, but I found the actual fix for this.
flash the stock recovery, or stock rooted rom .....YOU HAVE TO BE ROOTED AND ON STOCK RECOVERY
use root explorer
mount r/w
when you open root explorer, scroll up to carrier
open /carrier
delete .chameleon.hash
delete chameleon.xml
back out of root explorer
go to dialer and ##72786#
the phone will reboot, do hands free, and should work....it will reboot again and check for firmware update, etc.....all updates worked for me.
Hit the freaking thanks button
once i follow your procedure can i go back to LK8 and LK8 won't give anymore errors? I am on LK8 now but my activation not working and i think that causes my inet not to work

Doesn't fully work. I went back to unrooted LJC and rerooted(without adding the custom recovery) and deleted the 2 files. It DOES stop the Chameleon FC but it still wants to do the hands free activation every reboot. I can't stop that from occuring with the above method.
**EDIT**
The method in the original post does work but every time you wanna load a new ROM, you gotta do this all over again.
Someone needs to find a way to fix this right.

I posted what worked for me. I had chameleon has stopped, and hands free activation on every boot. My phone wouldnt update profile, and would never activate. I got creative, and noticed that those two files hadnt changed since the day I got my phone activated, so I decided to delete them and see if that changed anything. My phone went hands free and actually worked, rebooted and checked for firmware, then updated the profile. I can update the profile once again, and no hands free, or chameleon errors anymore. Feel free to try finding your own solution.

[Q] Broke my SuperSU app by installing busybox?

(My first post on the forums! You guys have helped me out so much in the past, and I'm excited to finally communicate with you. Wish me luck!)
I recently installed the 4.3 OTA update on my Samsung Galaxy S3, using the zips and instructions from these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991
It went perfectly, without a hitch. Everything was running great, and I was loving everything about stock, de-samsungized 4.3, root and custom bootloader.
I was very interested in the dSploit app, and installed it, found out I needed Busybox. I installed it using the busybox installer. This is where the trouble begins. SuperSU needed a binary update after I installed busybox for some reason, even though I was fairly certain I already had the latest binaries. I tried running it through the automatic update with my teamwin bootloader, but it only booted into recovery and nothing installed. After googling it for a bit, decided to re-flash SuperSU. Suddenly, I began recieving the message "Unfortunately, SuperSU has stopped working" every time I tried to access anything requiring root priviledges. Anything that had already been granted root access (including Titanium Backup, thank goodness) seemed to work fine as long as it didn't need to request additional privileges. Unfortunately, I'm now locked out of ES File Explorer and the xposed framework (all prior installed modules continue to function though)
My initial thought was to wipe and reload using the process I used to get here in the first place, but I'm running 4.3 now, and I understand that downgrading is impossible now, and no flashable 4.3 stock roms seem to exist.
So I'm lost, guys. I need my root back somehow... If I forgot any information you think would be relevant and/or helpful, let me know and I'll provide anything you need. I've been googling and searching the forums for days, but I haven't found anyone with this exact problem.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling SuperSu?
Since SuperSU was flashed to the device via Odin, it is registered as a system app. The app store only has the open option, and I can't access the app in the system folder without root privileges, which it won't give me, so...
Yeah. Unless there's a script I can run through recovery, that's a dead end.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

I've tried this. In fact, that was when SuperSU began force-closing. I just need to completely uninstall it and start fresh, I think.

Have you tried the cleanup/unroot options inside supersu settings? Then starting over?
I might not have stated this directly before, but the SuperSU app won't launch. I tap on it and immediately get the "Unfortunately" error. I have no way of accessing anything within the app.

Ok well then find one of the 4.3 roms in development that you can use. I'm on s3rx 3.0 and other than some hiccups (still a wip atm) that are liveable, its pretty stable. You can flash this safely in recovery without the bootloader/modem package since you already took the OTA without risk of bricking. Its prerooted so no worries there. Good luck

Thank you for that. It's always good to have a fallback option.
I'm still wondering though, is there a script I could flash that would completely remove SuperSU / BusyBox / superUSER (CWM) to scratch and allow me to re-flash CF-Autoroot? Barring that, how difficult would it be to code one myself?
FIXED IT.
Apparently, flashing the latest version of SuperSU from the developer's website (1.86) will not work on Android 4.3. I flashed version 1.65 as provided in the original 4.3 Rooting Guide, then updated it in the Play Store followed by a binary update and re-installed BusyBox, and everything is back to running order. Thank you all for your help and advice!

[Q] Need help upgrading Android if possible?

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5110 wifi version using CF-Auto-Root. It is running Android 4.1.2 and now that the new tablets have come out ie; 8.4" tab, note 12.1 2014 edition etc., I don't think there's much hope for Samsung to update the OS as the device has been out for approx 14 months.
So anyway I rooted because I was low on memory and wanted to move some apps to ext SD card. However being on Android 4.1.2 I believe is the reason I still cannot do this. Any apps I have downloaded from the Play Store won't let me do this. I have read online that this feature was added in higher version of Android. From what I have read 4.3 is more stable than 4.2.2.
Wondering if there is any way I can get Android 4.3 on my device? I have read a bit about 'cyanogenMod's' and 'clockwork recovery' and don't really understand much about it yet.
Is there any way for me to re-root my device so that I will have Android 4.3? If so, would I have to un-root it first before rooting again?
This Note 8 tablet is the second device I rooted. The first was my S3 phone which was great after rooting as I just wanted to freeze the bloatware using Titanium Backup Pro which I did. Love it. But with the Note 8, rooting it has not achieved what I need so far. Hoping someone can help this almost newbie!!
There is no 4.3 for our device the only thing that is out there right now is the ported version of 4.3 made available to us by @ykkfive found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642647 there are some rumors that we might get Kit-Kat 4.4 so IMHO I think they are going to bypass 4.3 all together for our device, but again those are just rumors.
As far as custom recovery goes I would suggest you look into Philz recovery made available to us by @Phil3759 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
Hoping this help

Unroot and push 4.2.2, all your issues will be solved. I tried custom ROMs and found stock 4.2.2 works just fine, without Google Music Player update or just disable it all together.
PS, use saferoot.zip next time... it does not require flashing, and will not break your device from using OTA or Kies for firmware updates.
Now you need to run triangle away to clear your flash counter before removing root.
Two things:
One: the current version is 4.2.2. If you are running 4.1, there is an update available
Two: Samsung stated that there will be an update to KK for our devices.
There has never been a 4.3 ROM for our device, nor is there a compelling reason to have one. Plenty of KK ROMs in the development section though, although I really didn't care for any of the ones I tried. The only way I know to root this device is with CF Autoroot, and that is also what worked for me. I am not sure why it did not work for you. Once you root, you can do everything you've been able to do with your S3.
Thank you for the helpful replies.
@gooberdude I guess the first thing I need to do from what you're saying is use Triangle Away to reset the counter. Then to unroot. No clue how to do this, but I guess I've got a lot of searching to do to find out. Any help would be appreciated!
You mention to 'push' 4.2.2. It is not available either over the air or through kies. So, how do I do this? Again help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Yes use triangle away to reset counter then if you not already have done so download and install Odin 1.85
Next search the stock firmware for your model here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Get your Note into download mode ( Press and keep holding the Volume Down, Home and Power ) and connect it to your PC, Odin should "see" it the first slot under ID:slot should turn a different color if so you are in good shape, now put the Firmware you download from above mentioned site click PDA*button and select the downloaded .tar.md5 file, Important: In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are enabled. Also, ensure that the Re-partition checkbox is not enabled and hit start and let Odin do the rest and you should be up and running in no time
Hoping this helps

You can also check here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N5110 look for XAR "cellular south" from what i read this is the "US-version" or look for BTU "United Kingdom" both should work as long as it is for GT-N5110 you should be good.
As far as Odin goes I have used 1.85 and that worked for me really well, if 3.07 worked for you then that is great and I would stick with that
Hoping this helps

So I've been doing a lot of searching and reading online before doing more to my Note 8 tablet. Cause if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have rooted it.
Anyway, I have seen a YouTube video of how you can unroot your phone (tablet - any Android) using Super SU. I assume I should use Triange Away first then do that. Then there are 3 files I need to remove: /system/bin/su + /system/xbin/su + /system/app/Superuser.apk.
Then of course remove any apps that I installed that required root access like Greenify, Busybox Free, Multiwindow Manager etc.
So if I do that it sounds like I will be back to a warrantied fully stock Note 8.
SO MY QUESTION THEN: How do I upgrade my firmware to 4.2.2 and if I do will I be voiding the 2 year warranty I have bearing in mind I will have unrooted my device?

If you download a stock Rom and flash it with Odin from one of those sites I mentioned before you will be on 4.2.2 it will flash a full stock firmware, and therefore you do not have to "upgrade" your firmware, so in short if you use triangle away and flash a stock Rom your Note will be like the day you first broke the seal and took it out of the box.
Now if you decide to get 4.1.2 then you could "update" to 4.2.2 by going to... settings...about device...software update...update and let the device look for an update and let it install.
Hoping this helps

Wha??? If you have stock ROM and it is rooted... run trianagle away, and have it clear out your counter. Once cleared you can verify then do a factory reset after you boot to home screen. Once reset, you will have a clean like new OS load. then you can push an OTA with settings, about device, check for updates. If you flashed
Of course you have to USE triangle away but isn't that what I already had stated above when I said go the Odin way and flash a stock Rom?
And also generally speaking, a factory reset does not always erase data stored on the internal or external sd card. This data must be manually erased by formatting the sd cards.

I rooted using CF-Auto-Root so that I could use apps like app2sd to free up some space on the internal 16gb (9 or 10 gb available to user) by moving apps to ext sd card. I did not add a mod or recovery or anything else after rooting. I am in Canada and there are no OTA updates available for the Note 8. So I am stuck at Android 4.1.2. After I rooted I realized that what I really need is at least Android 4.2.2 in order to move apps to ext SD card.
So, ideally, what I'd really like to do is unroot my device after using Triange Away, delete the 3 leftover files I mentioned earlier, and then delete any apps that require root. I have a warranty until February 2016 and I'd really like to be able to use it if necessary as I've heard that some have had battery issues after several months use. ANYWAY, is there any way I can stay unrooted, and yet upgrade the OS to 4.2.2 (which does not seem to be available here in Canadan-I guess we're stuck at 4.1.2. Even if 4.4.2 KitKat becomes available it will not help me with my low storage issue as KitKat stops apps from writing to ext SD Card. SO, I really prefer to have 4.2.2.
I am assuming all the instructions everyone has offered me above all have me remain rooted? Would I be able to remain rooted, upgrade to 4.2.2 then use Triangle Away and unroot?
Sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to clarify a few things.
The ONLY way for you to get 4.2.2 if you are not able to get an O.T.A..... is too USE triangle away as @gooberdude has stated AND donwload and Flash a 4.2.2 Stock Rom with Odin from one of the site that I gave you above, you will NOT be rooted after you flash the Stock Rom and you should not have any warranty issues at all.
Hoping this will clear things up

I know a factory reset will not erase SD storage... As for that, really there should not be any thing there the system needs to operate. So what ever is on SD is not important to the OS.
As for getting root without flashing... Saferoot.zip. I have it installed and never had to use Triangle away. the nice thing about it, is that OTA and Kies will allow firmware updates. So, when updates become available, I'll be able to update.
If the OP would backup the important stuff he needs, and just do a factory reset, he should have a near factory untouched OS. This will allow OTA and Kies to function. Then all he needs to do is set USB debug in developer options and run saferoot.zip from a windows pc or laptop. As an option install rootcloak and substrate apps to truly hide root from apps that may detect it. Once done your rooted device will be just as upgradable as a factory device.

So have you tried flashing already? I have the same problem in Brazil, OTA / Kies never detects an update to 4.1.2... And I don't even rooted or anything that could impact the process.
@gooberdude I like your idea of using safe root but I don't understand what 'flashing' means nor what cloakroom is although I am guessing it's an app? Also what are substrate apps? @fmachado2906 as I said I don't know what flashing means.
Why does Samsung send some countries an update but not others? It's frustrating.

@Festivale26 flashing = downloading the firmware, opening Odin, setting up the firmware there and clicking on Start, not necessarily in this same order =)
By the way I'm tired of waiting, just downloading 4.2.2 and will try later.. I'll let you know how it went.
