I had just installed jelly bean today and missed the native Wifi mod that I had installed, so I built a new one based off of the script found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801923
This is only for ATT Jellybean 4.1.1 UCDLK3 since I decompiled and compiled from that framework.

Can you tell me what tools you used? I tried modding this file twice today with APK Multi Tool (latest one from his website), aapt from the newest Google SDK, and the framework files from my phone. Both times my phone refused to boot, but yours was no problem.
Thanks for the release!
^^^ this!
I tried as well since I had it working on LI5, updated everything and tried a couple times... would not boot. what did you do to get it working?
Just made my nandroid backup to try this out.

Great work! Was the only thing missing for me :fingers-crossed:
Donloaded the .zip to the phone. Used Rom Manager to reboot into ClockWorkMod recovery. Selected " apply update from external card", then selected the zip file.
I get "E:System verification failed", then "Installation aborted"
Any help would be appreciated guys.
SOLVED:
Don't know why CWM didn't work, but tried Team Win Recovery, and it worked! Thanks again Allen!

No problem, god knows that I downloaded my share of things from here so I'm happy to contribute back.
I had to pull the three tools from different locations.
APKtool.jar was from apktool1.5.0
aapt was from here on the forums, it's an older one.
java.exe was from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805408
I'll share them from my dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kpu00b7k4ol5rlw/Compiling Tools.rar
It may have worked for me due to the method I used. After recompiling the modified framework-res.apk. I pulled resources.arsc from it using 7-zip and then added that to the original framework-res.apk using "store" method so no compression would be used.
Thanks !
I can't wait to try this tonight on my wife's brand new AT&T Galaxy S3. I bought her this phone as an early Christmas present when Sam's had them for $0.96 on Black Friday. I also bought her a Nexus 7 tablet. My plan was that she'd be able to Bluetooth tether off of her phone and finally be able to unrestricted (albeit, Flash-free) access to the web when she's at work (where employee internet access is severely restricted and 100% monitored).

I was going to NOT install a non-stock recovery in order to avoid tripping the counter (even thought I understand we can still get it back to 0), but now you are forcing me to rethink that idea. Already!
I'm still on 4.0.4 ICS. I can't find a tether script. Any ideas where I can find one if there is one.
Which build number do you have? Go into settings > about phone, and its all the way at the bottom.

Shucks!
Her phone says Baseband = i747UCLI5. I assume that it should say something like i747UCDLK3. I tried to install directly from framework-res.APK, but it gave me this error:
Parse Error
There is a problem parsing the package.
FWIW... I had "unknown sources" checked in the Security section of the Settings. Her phone is also rooted (running stock 4.0.4.).
...hmm... I checked for a "software update" (thinking that it would update her phone to 4.1.x, but when I checked (while phone was rooted), it said that no update was available. Then I used Voodoo OTA Root Protector and temp-un-rooted, then tried again, but it said that I have to wait 24 hours to check again.
Ughh.
LK3 isn't available for OTA update yet.
Works great! You da man!

I didnt think the issue was flashing recovery, it was once you boot to recovery, the counter switches to 1. it doesnt increment every boot to recover.
I'm on JB 4.1.1 upgraded through Kies and rooted using Robinson's update via Odin.
Can I install this WiFi BT Tether ZIP without installing CWM or other recovery?
It seems I have the default Android recovery on my phone and there's a menu item to install ZIP file from an external card.

Yes, actually. Just open up Tether_WIFI_BT_UCDLK3.zip with 7zip and pull out framework-res.apk on your PC.
Next, framework-res.apk to your phone, anywhere.
Last, use root explorer to copy framework-res.apk into /system/framework and overwrite the one that's there.
Your phone will restart as soon as it's done copying. It's a dirty way to do it, but it works.

Did you uninstall any bloat apps? If so, did you restore a backup or is everything just working for you? I am rooted on JB leak and uninstalled many bloat apps and just trying to figure out what my next step is here. And what does SBF stand for? Sorry for the ignorance, never owned a locked bootloader phone before so this is all new lol.

I only disabled bloat apps, didn't uninstall any. It checks to make sure all system apps are present (but not enabled). Your only option if you've uninstalled bloat apps using something like TiBu and if you've installed the JB leak is to revert to ICS factory image. SBF is "system boot file."
You're going to need to grab the ICS fastboot file from the dev forum and install it before either the OTA or this will work.
Root on its own is not a problem but if you have changed system apps (bloat is all "system") you'll need to do that.
If you installed safestrap that's fine, but you have to uninstall the recovery using the app before this will work because it checks the boot sequence.
Is the official update going to be worth it if we already have the leaked jellybean? All the sites I've read provide the same information regarding the new features for the update (all the same as the jellybean leak). If anyone has updated to the official jellybean from the leaked can you provide any information regarding the differences between the two
Confirmed working, and according to the Verizon PDF this official version has improved 4g reception as well as less drops on signal, improved WiFi and Bluetooth its running fine for me, going to try root and safe strap now

Yes, this is Verizon's official OTA. I haven't been running long so I will not comment much on stability. For the first few minutes one system app continuously force closed and restarted and the notification bar / soft keys disappeared. A reboot solved those problems.

Root checker stated I was rooted. May have to check again to make sure the binaries are still there. Will mess w/ her (g/f's) phone when she's done using it.
Just went back to Jellywiz from Paranoid on my S3 w/ some new radios we got leaked, so been busy setting all my crap back up.
Really hoping we can get Pimp My Rom on the M soon.
I also had no issues re-rooting with OTA Rootkeeper after manual update. I think I'm enjoying project butter the most!

Hey guys I was following Mr. Robinson's post from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
I had ICS rooted but had to factory reset to get the stock JB 4.1.1 update. Anyways I followed the post and Odin says passed after it finished.
The phone rebooted fine but I did not have SU installed, I thought hmm thats the first flag but I installed it anyways and then I tried to run titanium+root it of course failed. I ran the SU checker and it says su decline/not found.
On the guide I only went to the end of the first part since I only wanted the stock 4.1.1 rooted for now.
Any suggestions as to why this did not root?
Phone: T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 JB 4.1.1 SGH-T999 Kernel 3.0.31-370274
Just to make it easier here is what I did...
First download the stock odin tar that has a rooted system image injected into it:
Note: Always check the MD5 sums before using any of these! Thanks
MCT: Mobilicity
GLW: Wind
VTR: Videotron
T-Mobile Image
October 2012 - 4.1.1 JellyBean
Note: This is based off of the stock image TMO T999UVDLJA
Perm Mirror: Download - root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.7z
Second
Extract the root66 tar file from the .7z file you downloaded.
Put phone into download mode [ with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the root66 tar you downloaded.
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and
when done let phone reboot.
If you have issues flashing with Odin please ensure you are using the microusb cable that came with the phone, users have had issues using other cables.
If you just want a stock, rooted phone with no custom recovery, no plans to flash custom roms, etc. then you can stop HERE.
:good:
I am at work now so I can not try to root it again until I get home but I can monitor the post so any ideas I can try I will.
I did reboot again and still no root.
I've read most of the 80+ pages in the guide and cannot find any reference of this issue.
Of course you lost root. You flashed a stock image. So just re-root it. No big deal.

First of all a huge thanks to Team Sextape for the MC2 release. Thanks to Calkulin for use of the install script. Thanks to Chainfire for SuperSU.
Flash this to get Deodexed/Odexed stock MC2 with latest root (SuperSU), su binary and Busybox 1.20.2. These Do Not include a kernel or any other firmware.
All of the zips wipe cache and dalvik for you so no need to do that separately.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.
I DON'T HAVE THIS PHONE SO PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID FIRST
This is a Jelly Bean Rom. As I stated earlier it does not include a kernel. So if you are coming from a Rom that isn't Jelly Bean you need to first install a Touchwiz based safe Jelly Bean kernel. So copy the Jelly Bean kernel to your phone. Boot into your recovery. Flash the Jelly Bean kernel and then flash this Rom. Or if you are using Odin just Odin the Jelly Bean kernel and install the Rom.

3. Select install zip from sdcard.
4. Select choose zip from sdcard if your zip file is on the external sdcard or select choose zip from internal sdcard if you downloaded the zip right to your phone.

What your coming from wouldn't matter much. Stock is Odexed and Deodexed is mainly for theming and Mods. You can switch back and forth at any time. Remember that this doesn't include the firmware so you would want to install those separately if you choose to use the Rom. I am uploading new versions to fix the install error so I would wait for that. Also people have said there are some bugs in MC2. So that is up to you on whether you want to give it a try or not.

Is it worth it to do the CWM method that avoids triggering the Flash Counter?
More questions will likely come as I remember.

From one of your links to install rogers firmware pre rooted, you want this firmware which was the first from Rogers section http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23017610006234402
Here is where you can download the 4.1.2 rogers stock un-rooted firmware. The first one labeled RWC is for Rogers Wireless. http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-I747M
Personally I do not worry about the flash counter because you can install 'Triangle Away' and reset the counter from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

No, that's just for getting back to stock. In your first link S3 root rom.... you have a forum that had. ' no tripping flash counter'. This is stock firmware with root injected already. If you flash that with odin, you will have root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426

Oh, thanks. Should I just use the Samsung link for the stock ROM? In my link it has like 3 different files under the Rogers section. Is that root a good one? I am not sure if there are different roots.
Is flashing a rooted file with oden the best way to root?
The absolutely simplest way for you to get root is to flash this in odin.
http://download.chainfire.eu/269/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-d2can-d2vl-sghi747m.zip
It will give you root access without reinstalling the whole rom. If you want instruction on how to use this file, here is the source link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790.
After installing this you can download Rom Manager from the play store to install CWM
At this stage don't worry about your flash counter. You can reset it to 0 later.
AT&T GS3 memory problem
I hope I'm putting this in the correct forum on this website. If not will someone guide me to the right place?
After rooting my AT&T GS3 and loading lots of apps and doing backups, I noticed it was running out memory. When viewing the Storage and available space on the phone it indicated the bulk of memory was taken up by "Miscellaneous files". I connected the phone to my computer and with Windows Explorer navigated to my phone. Once there I saw, as I suspected, it appeared the problem with my phone's internal memory being almost all used up was because I had done way too many backups, some with the phone's backup and some with other apps with backup capabilities. Figuring I could take care of that easily enough, I used my computer's Eraser program I erased several of the older backups. After disconnecting the phone, rebooting, etc. I went into the phone's Settings & Storage to see how the memory then looked. The phone shows that I now have Available space of 8.43 GB, because the Miscellaneous files space went down from about 11GB to 2.03GB. Here's my problem... even though the phone Storage indicates I have all kinds of available memory, I get errors when existing apps try to download updates to apps and some new apps telling me there is not enough memory available. Short of restoring the phone to pre-rooting and then having to reload all my apps and re-root, is there a way (using CWM or other) to get the phone to re-recognize the available memory? If someone could give me a link to where to answer is I would be very grateful
If you have successfully installed CWM, try wiping cache, and then wipe dalvic cache. Dalvic cache is in the 'advanced' section under wipe menu. This will force android to reload all the app memory and may fix your issue.

If I want to root in order to run custom ROMs such as CM, should not use auto root?
All root is created equal. You can use auto root for any rom. Stock or CM10. If you use the auto roor method that I suggested you will not have issues.

This Gapps package has all the Google apps for Android 4.2.2. You would flash this after installing CM10.1

That package should work fine for the latest stable version of CM 10.1 for my device, correct?

Thanks BCSC for the assistance. I did a wipe on both caches, but after re-boot the phone still gave me memory errors when apps tried to update. But that's OK, because I installed another backup from my external SD card (1 of 4) and it looks like the memory problem went away. I was going to go through a re-install of each of backups to see if I happened to have made a rooted one before the memory filled up. I got lucky because the first backup on the list did the trick. :good:

Oh, my bad, the auto root includes a custom Odin for the auto root.
I am just wondering, what's the difference between using the auto root and using normal odin such as the method in the noobs root guide? More steps?
As for installing CWM through ROM manager: it prompts me to select my device and the only S3 there is MetroPCS.
Press menu button and you will see 'show all devices.' You will find it in there

you'll need to change the 7z to tar gz and use heimdall, Frankly why not just flash existing roms in development sections with the new boot loader and modem if youre just looking to check it out?

If you actually did some reading you would have known that you needed to also flash the new modem for data.

I flashed same rom. you need to also flash modem as well for 4g/mms
My ONLY problem left is no stock MAIL icon. I'm not sure if this was taken out on purpose. I prefer to use the original mail app.
SuperSU was also broken but they have a fix. let me know if you have of those problems too.

It says on page: YOU MUST FLASH THE I747UCUEMJ2 MODEM FOR AT&T GALAXY S III IN ORDER FOR DATA TO WORK; OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT HAVE DATA
I am not allowed to post links yet so here is the text version with some spaces
Link to modem file = androidfilehost.com /?fid= 23196940996968656
They have link on page as well. You flash that file, same way you flash ROM. It will update modem firmware to work with 4.3
Let me know if you have the native MAIL app. I don't see it after I flashed 4.3[/B]

check out galaxy s3 root .com
you would copy a superuser.zip file to your internal phone card
You would use odin to flash a ClockworkMod Recovery file to your phone (if you don't have it)
Next you would use push the correct buttons on phone to enter ClockWork Recovery mode
Once in ClockWork you would select superuser.zip on phone to install it. All instructions are on the website I mentioned earlier
Can you tell me what exact ROM you downloaded and where you got it from / who made it?
