Using an unlock code is not risky at all. In fact using galaxsim unlock is riskier although I have used it with no issues at all. Galaxsim needs root access and don't forget to back up your EFS folder if you decide to use it.

Roll back to 4.1.1, unlock for free using instructions on here, then flash to 4.1.2.
You will need to carry out full EFS backup, then get Samsung usb drivers, and ODIN, download 4.1.1 stock image, flash, factory reset and clear cache, then carry out the unlock procedure found in these forums, then download and flash your choice of stock 4.1.2 rom, and bingo, unlocked and updated phone.

(Q) Unlock code for ROGERS Galaxy S3

Hi !
Just bought an online unlock code and when I enter it when prompted on my S3 it says network unlock unsuccessful, the guy on the website says I ruined my phone by rooting it and I was a smart kid thinking rooting my phone was cool..(Just told him the phone was rooted...)
Could the root really be the problem ? If yes, reverting to stock ROM and unrooting with a stock firmware would would work ? Is there any chances that I can't unlock the phone because of this ? Thanks guys !

I highly doubt it's because you're rooted. I've never heard of that one before. Seems like he's a scam.
Try this though...should work on any TWiz rom.

that customer service dude is worthless.
i believe you have to be on stock (touchwiz firmware) to unlock. i may be wrong
Not really!! Root hardly matters. And it doesn't need for you to be on stock to unlock. I unlocked mine on custom ROM, and my other S3 that's on rooted stock.

Unfortunately, nobody has yet posted a method to successfully free unlock the S3 running on 4.3. It's possible to downgrade your ROM only to 4.1.1 without downgrading the bootloader and retain full phone functionality. However, you would still not be able to free unlock as you need to be on complete stock 4.1.1, including the bootloader, to be able to free unlock. Until someone comes up with an exploit, your best options now would either be to request the unlock code from your carrier, if eligible, or purchase an unlock code online.

Downgrading 4.1.2 to 4.1.1 and unlocking is a breeze. You will find the Odin flashable file and downgrading instructions via the link below...

It's a zip file. You would need to download it extract all files. The file to flash via Odin is: I747UCDLK3_I747ATTDLK3_I747UCDLK3_HOME.tar.md5. It doesn't matter whether your phone is rooted or not. A successful flash will deliver a complete stock image. When downgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1, you may experience some error messages after reboot due to some remnants of 4.1.2 on the system. This can be resolved by doing a reset to factory settings either via recovery or from the settings menu.

[Q] C6506 Rooting 10.4.1.B.0.101 (completely noob)

Hello, well, I have a very noob question, the thing that I have to root a 10.4.1.B.0.101, from Telcel, and it seems that I can't unlock its bootloader... (Bootloader unlock allowed: No)
I need instructions to root it, I know, I could and I should find those intructions through site but I almost brick it twice tonight, so I prefer to come here to beg for intructions. PLEASE HELP! :crying::crying::crying::crying:
I'm not sure if I can try this without a unlocked bootloader.
Thank you very much!

This works without unlocking bootloader.
The only way is to downgrading to android 4.2 and then updating to .101 by flashing zip files

[Q] GSM Unlocked - Need Help with something silly...?

Hey All!
I finally got T-Mobile to do a full carrier unlock on my device. It is not paid off, it is just 2 days out of the box. There is a long story that goes with it, which I'd be happy to provide. I do want some help though before I go through it, if you would please assist.
Before they unlocked the device; I had installed TWRP, custom kernel, and AllianceROM. Fortunately, I backed up my original stock ROM with Ktoonz kernel before flashing Alliance. The T-Mobile Unlock app does not work on AllianceROM for probably obvious reasons. ANYWHO...I flashed back to my backup, ran the unlock with them over the phone and done.
Am I safe to flash back to AllianceROM backup I made? My understanding is once unlocked, forever unlocked. I would hate to flash into my previous backup to only lose my carrier perma unlock.
Thanks for the help!!!!
Once its unlocked, it's unlocked. It makes no difference what Rom you install afterwards.

Pretty much the exact same thing with me 2 days out of the box and not paid off or even used on the network. I did wait to flash recovery and what not till it was unlocked once it is perm unlocked though you are good to go I have flashed numerous roms and flashed via odin, and even had to use smart switch recovery by serial and still unlocked.

Thanks!
I went ahead and did a full back up of my unlock. Went ahead and flashed the ROM fresh over, not the backup, and reflashed the kernel. Still unlocked and good to go. Did it all through TWRP and no problems. Glad it didn't remove the unlock because I can't imagine continuing the battle! At least it is working perfectly with AT&T and has a full carrier perma unlock, rootable and bootloader unlock

Then you were not fully unlocked. You need to flash back to stock and call T-Mobile. Unlock app does come back after restore but it does not relock the device. It may say failed if you try to use it again as it is no longer in there system but unlock will stay.
