Hi !
Just bought an online unlock code and when I enter it when prompted on my S3 it says network unlock unsuccessful, the guy on the website says I ruined my phone by rooting it and I was a smart kid thinking rooting my phone was cool..(Just told him the phone was rooted...)
Could the root really be the problem ? If yes, reverting to stock ROM and unrooting with a stock firmware would would work ? Is there any chances that I can't unlock the phone because of this ? Thanks guys !

I highly doubt it's because you're rooted. I've never heard of that one before. Seems like he's a scam.
Try this though...should work on any TWiz rom.

that customer service dude is worthless.
i believe you have to be on stock (touchwiz firmware) to unlock. i may be wrong
Not really!! Root hardly matters. And it doesn't need for you to be on stock to unlock. I unlocked mine on custom ROM, and my other S3 that's on rooted stock.

Good Day
Sorry if this question was asked before, I am not clear about flashing new ROM.
I have a locked GN3 from tmobile, I bought unlocked code from eBay and my phone now working perfect with international career.
If I flash new ROM 4.3 or 4.4, will it be locked again? if tmobile release new update KitKat 4.4, should I update? re locked?
Thanks
Flashing any rom will not lock ur bootloader. Once u unlocked ur boot loader, unless u lock it back. It will not be locked by flashing roms etc

OP...I used Chainfire's RegionLock Away App on my rooted T-Mobile Note 3 and had to Odin back to stock for some troubleshooting and it was still sim unlocked. Once you sim unlock it once you should be good to go from there on out.

He's not talking about his bootloader, he's talking about the phone being sim locked to T-Mobile's network.

Hey guys,
I bought a G925T and gonna have to use it in Brazil (with a brazilian sim card carrier).
Do you know how can I unlock the phone?
I'm reading here in XDA that is not possible to unlock the T-Mobile S6 Edge.
Anybody knows somenthing about that?
thank you!
To unlock the t-mobile phone you have to call the t-mobile costumer service and request them to add your imei to their white list. Then you have to go to the unlock app and push permanent unlock. You have to be connected to internet using the t-mobile network to make the unlock work.
Can be unlocked by usb cable now also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxOuHIUWAFk
yeah u can do it different ways. I can do it . 5.1.1 supported.

Can you provide instructions or link?
yes can be done for 5.1.1 ,by imei only ,basically the method is and unlock on tmobile server,so it will work to unlock using the tmobile unlock app. This service can be considered maybe a bit more official as that presented in the video above, even if the results are the same, only problem is a bit more expensive
What time can you meet me? for remote unlock

Hey bro just wanted to say that please be careful. If the customer updates to version 5.1.1, the phone will not boot beyond the Samsung Logo, this happens only IF you're still tampering with the EFS. There are a few methods on how to unlock them now without affecting the phone....just wanted to inform you if you were still doing it via efs...

Hmm, I think I know who unlocked your phone in that case. Well the only way will be to update OTA, to do that your phone must be on STOCK firmware, no root. To do that flash over the firmware (system partition), when you do you can update OTA. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. You need to ask the person who unlocked your phone for your EFS Backup, this is important in case things go wrong.

Oh ok, if it's through z3x then you're fine. They don't tamper with EFS. Though I would still HIGHLY RECOMMEND to ask for your efs backup, trust me on this. I'm new to this forum, but I am a little familiarized with phones

Hey I didn't know you had an account here too! Like I said brother, it has to do with efs and security partitions. ONLY IMEI repair at the moment, I do know someone who can root it...but solution is exclusive, won't share with anyone including myself....I'm sure you know who it was on the other side

I have a question and could find an answer, well maybe a few... First if you have an unlocked version of the m9 directly brought from HTC all updates come from them not any carriers? With that being said if you by a T-Mobile version and get an unlock code from them will updates still come from them or HTC?

HTC updates the phones sold through HTC. Any phone with carrier branding has HTC submitting their software to the carrier, and then it's released after carrier approval. It makes no difference if the phone is locked, unlocked, used on a different network, etc.
The only way you can go about getting updates directly from HTC in the past is through S-Off and a CID change, effectively changing your device ID, but A: I'm not sure if this is still the case and B: If you're asking the question that you asked, this is going to be a bit too complicated for me to explain at the moment. So the simple answer is No.

If you unlock the phone you will have to manually update the phone. If you stay stock you will get updates from T-Mobile, although they will lag the official (and XDA unofficial) releases by a substantial time.
Most folks unlock because they want to flash a custom ROM anyway, and will get updates on that ROM, rather than HTC or T-Mobile.

hmmmmm actually depends on which UNLOCK. If he meant unlocking it to make it carrier free but leaving everything stock then it'll update automatically. If he unlocks the bootloader but still remains stock without changing anything then it'll be auto still. I believe the only time you need to manually update is when you alter the recovery partition of the phone (installing custom recovery CWM/TWRP/etc) which means you'll probably run a custom rom, which also prevents automatic updates.

I'm assuming he meant unlock the bootloader, not the carrier. But I personally would not go to the trouble of unlocking the bootloader unless I was going to go custom ROM.

yeah I got that, but he said unlock code and from T-mobile so I deduced it to carrier unlocking lol.
Well I actually already unlocked the boot loader and using custom ROMs so not that be of a deal more so for my understanding. So if everything was stock and just got an unlock code from T-Mobile to unlock the device and say used the phone on AT&T or Verizon where would the updates come from ? The carrier you are on at the time or HTC?
By the way that's for the help and responses guys!

You are not going to get updates for a T-Mobile phone while on an AT&T network, even if you stayed stock. I don't think the download would work, and even if it did the ROM would not work with your variant. I think they will detect that your phone is not AT&T and not even offer the update.
It sounds like you have installed a custom ROM. In that case you won't get OTA at all, from anywhere; you simply update the ROM when the developer releases a new version.

Yes did the same and still unlocked after restoring my stock rooted T-Mobile nandroid
Hello. I recently got my hands on a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SIII. The phone is network locked and I need to unlock it. I already rooted the phone.
However I have not been successful in unlocking the SIM. There is a method posted here on XDA which tells you to use the menu by dialing *#197328640#. However it won't work on the versions after Android 4.1
I was wondering if anyone can share with me where I can download the stock or a custom ROM with Android 4.1 so that I can use this method to unlock the SIM.
If you know of any other methods that don't require me to pay third parties please share them with me.
Thank you.
If the phone is running a stock 4.3 or newer bootloader, you cannot use the free method to unlock the phone.

That's right. I was wondering if anyone could share with me a 4.1 bootloader because I wasn't successful in finding one.
You can't flash a 4.1 bootloader over a 4.3 or 4.4.2 bootloader. Trying will probably brick the phone.
